However, I have missed the right moment to open up my bags and talk about my gear list. Typically a gear list video should be done DURING THE TRIP or immed...

Today is my last stage and the longest of them all: 150 km. I took the decision to end my trip in Eugene a long ago. The first part of the trip is uphill and through a dry pine forest. On the summit area, lava and dead forest. Over the...

BRILLIANT!
Well done my cyclist brother, really enjoyed this film. Thank you for sharing your journey.
That was a beautiful journey giving you the full spectrum of the United States. I assume you'll be back for the GDMBR run from North to South?
Hi there,,i love your narrative and your history knowledge of america, and yes america in general (except those whose lives in big city😊) the suburban folks are more friendly, kind and helpful towards strangers they even give you some cash, offering you place to rest, inviting you to be their guest, etc when ask for help they will absolutely without a doubt would help you(although yes there might be some rude folks too,it depends what races you are,i'm asian so they treat me slightly different than european cyclotourist) i'm too a cyclist myself,i did my solo BAA in 2019 from end of july till mid september,,i bikes from east to west just like you, however the route i'm taking is mostly on Rail Trail, such as;C&O canal-GAP-Three River-Montour-little miami(Ohio)-kathy trail(missouri)-Cowboy trail(Nebraska) in Valentine,NE Cowboy Trail Terminus i following mostly backroads and farmroads all the way up to Teton Pass in Idaho, then head towards Town of Three Sister it was an amazing route scenery and fascinating landscape,an experience once in a lifetime,,i finished my tour in Florence,Oregon in just 52days,,i slept in motel, campground and did many sthealt camp,,thru out my journey i encountered many kind and nice peoples and also many close call esp in Kansas Highway😊,,that's why i choose my route majority on Rail Trails rather than riding on Highway,America is absolutely beautiful not just in pictures but in real life,i urge some of you whose never visit america, you got to go and do it while you're still able,,,and great job Mr.Vlady on your amazing journey hopes to see your next adventure here in Indonesia come visit and ride my home country,,here's another whole new level you will be amazed by our lush green forest and hundreds of active volcanoes and large bodies water too, diversity peoples and languages.😊
I really appreciate your comment - it is totally different to see my video when you have done the trip yourself! I also did C&O, Katy trail etc! And I have been in Florence too, after Eugene! So, you know what it feels like. Only 52 days is great. I wasn’t fast. It must be fantastic also to experience Indonesia ❤️ - yes, some American was rude while gassing me with their pick-up truck. The most of the time, they are nice. They understand you and the situation and they are super helpful. In remote areas they are not even use to see foreigners, so to them my cycling clothes looked weird. But as you said, wasn’t difficult the social part. I’d love to cycle there again, not the same route, but another coast to coast.
@@vladywashere i got beter idea,,why not go around perimeter of US?it will took about 1+year to complete the journey😊,,or you could also try from Alaska dow to Argentina(my dream but i don't think i can do it😢)...apreciated also your response back, happy trails my friend, and goodluck on your new excursion!!
thank you. this was beautiful.
this rack makes the bike 1000€ cheaper and looks like sh*t - how can you put such a rack on a new gravel bike?! It's terrible
😂 you must be an idiot. It is a test. The rack is removable. And that’s the one I have. Plus, you show not to have idea what a cheap rack looks like. Go get lost pal.
@@vladywashere i know it's removable. But why buy this shitty item in the first place was my point. So i guess you are the idiot
Ben fatto
Grazie Mariano
Such a great soundtrack to an excellent Video.
Vlady, Thank you for sharing such a beautiful, difficult and breathtaking adventure with all of us. Such outstanding drone footage that captured the whole of that area you ventured through. The choice of music was at times spellbounding and enchanting along with the video of the wild horses. Such beauty you brought to life for us. Cheers...
80km a day gtfo youre crippled
Next time start from opposite direction and you have tailwind :)
Hello. How do you feel 1by is on normal road (tarmac) when you reach 40ish km/t. Do you feel that you then are ``missing`` som gear with 1 By?
Yes I did. I went for some distance road training. A road bike would have at least a stronger gear more toward the end of the cassette.
Thank you for your response. Maybe i should consider 2by then.@@vladywashere
@@eirikhalvorsen6972 2by is - if I am not wrong - 20 speed, so I guess yes, does a better job on covering the extremes. Mine is 12 speeds.
Stunning, just wanted to say thank you for sharing your adventure.
Thank you very much Tom
Hello Vlady, a wonderful trip / wonderful pictures 👍👍👍! I will retire in 2025 and will start with bike packing too. Again an inspiration. Many thanks. Gerd (... from South Germany, very close to the mountains)
That’s all about 👍

Great documentary with stunning footage and mature storytelling. Thank you for sharing and all the effort you put into this masterpiece. I hope, the time will come that I can cross the states by bicycle as well. All the best to you. Regards from Switzerland
Glad you enjoyed it! Many from Switzerland, I am flattered ❤️🌼
I'm in doubt between the XS and S size of the Grizl and looking at the description I was unsure about the size of the wheels. On the XS the wheel is 650b and not 700? Would you know anything about it? Thanks!
Hello Giovanni. Exactly. First of all, the difference between S and XS is the wheel size. This is important to know in order to avoid surprises.
@@vladywashere thanks so much man!
Hello Sir, nice vid. Is the free-running hub noisy? I always liked shimano because you dont hear a thing when you just roll :)
not really! I'd love more noise from the free wheel, but this Canyon is quiet, especially when off road.
Danke!
Much appreciated Matthias 🙏
@@vladywashere You're welcome, Vladi. I really enjoyed your film. This tour is a big dream of mine and my wife's. We've already cycled from Seattle to San Francisco, which was also incredibly beautiful, but not as long as your trip. I could really relate to some of what you said. People also thought that we were cycling because we couldn't afford anything else... Everyone was very helpful and friendly. Take care.
I had nothing this big on my cv either :) The most of the cyclists I have met along the way, neither. It is a mind blowing distance but still on the doable side, just legs pain and patience ❤️
When I was a child, my parents took me on bike tours. We have now also done tours with our daughters. Incidentally, we did the Kattegatleden from Malmö to Gothenburg ☺️
Does the bike really have 12 or 11 gears because it feels heavy going uphill or is that a matter of getting used to?
Are you asking if a 12 speed bike can tackle climbs? The answer is yes; it does a better job than my Tiagra 2x (20 speeds). On the contrary, it won’t get as fast as a road bike because of the gear ratio. For that you would better opt for a 2by.
@@vladywashere yes I have the same bike the 1by 6 with 12 gears I think I need the same MTB cassette I live in a place where I have to do a lot of climbing
@@Freeride____ I see now your point. It is a gravel bike, it won’t get much better than this on climbing. BUT, one could opt for a smaller front crank. I am ok simply because my comparison is with an all-road bike with a Tiagra 2by: faster on road, slower uphill. Talk to a bike mechanic and see the options. May be cheaper than we think to adjust it. I’ll keep it this way. Next bike, maybe a GRX 2by
@@vladywashere okay I will definitely go to a mechanic and see what we can laugh about 2by is just faster on the road doesn't do me much good uphill thanks for your time ride on 👍
Right on, Brother! I'm 72, with a new hip and a new knee. I have been riding more than ever before. I am planning a 250 mile trip this summer, and this video has inspired me to follow my dreams. I have ridden most of my life, but have only started bike touring recently. I'm getting stronger and stronger, and as far as I'm concerned, the sky is the limit. What have I got to lose at my age? I'm freakishly healthy, and I might as well enjoy it. Thank you so much for the inspiration, the good vibes, the beautiful scenery, and the knowledge that we are, indeed, stronger and more resilient than we could ever imagine. Be Well, my friend, and Prosper!
Greeeeat words my friend! Step by step and everything is possible!
@@vladywashere Keep up the good work!
salsa journeyer, Boardman adv, Kona Libre all better bikes and probably cheaper, don't sit and wait this scum company to manufacture 1 bike every 1 week, you end up growing old before you buy anything.
That’s your opinion, but you failed to motivate it. You need to try and experience it, then, specify why they would be better. But really, you are welcome with your comment, just be more constructive next time.
awesome. thanks for taking the time to document your trip and share your thoughts.
Glad you enjoyed it!
i recently got Grizl AL 7 1by, pretty happy with it so far
Hi. Please tell me what is your height, was it comfortable on S size?
Hello hello. According to the CANYON measurement page, I could ride both XS and S, as I’m 172cm tall. The XS has a 27.5 inch tyre. I am fine with the S. I have tried it on gravel, long distance on road, uphills, packing etc.
Good review and to keep in mind for next gravel that I will purchase. In the past, I chose Cube NuRoad and not really happy with it...
That bike was also among those considered by me. Beside the characteristics and the components, the design matters too. I have decided for a canyon grizl for the mounts/eyelets and the tyre clearance.
"Ohio is killing me" being from ohio and the memes we have about it being hell makes this too funny
Please tell anybody that OHIO is not flat 😆😂
This is one of the best youtube videos I've ever seen!
Hi Vlady, I use an app called peak finder that provides altitude and names of the mountains in your sourrandings. It's super easy to use and for free! This is because I'm always wondering about the altitude and names of the peaks when I go hiking and yes, maybe this might help in your vids :) Grazie per i tuoi vids!
Grande Vlady!
I own the 8th version and love it so much! Was on 2 bikepacking tours(United Arab Emirates and Nepal)…this bike is an amazing bike!!!
Wow. Grizl AL 8? Very nice!
@@vladywashere yup! Beautiful machine! Love it so much!
Ordered mine 2 Days ago. I am very stoked
Hey! Thank you for the video, it was really helpful for me. You mention that the bike is priced “around 1600eur”, but right now on Canyon website this model is 1750eur. Did the price change?
Let me check - a few months ago was 19.999 SEK, translated to € was between 1.600/1.700 euro. Yes, the price is now a little up, currently in Sweden is 20,499 SEK. But in Germany is still 1.699 €. You can change the region and see the prices.
@@vladywashere Thank you!
This video was great, i really enjoyed watching. An epic journey and an excellent film.
Thanks a ton Paul
You went to crater lake by car...?
Car rental. Yes. I had a guest, I took a “day off” :)
Thank you! I 'm going to buy a gravel bike with a focus on long distance tours. So this is really helpful information for me.
Glad it was helpful! Saturday I did 100 mile with this bike. I am on Strava if you want to check. I could even roll faster with slimmer tires.
It's life that prevents us from living.
Beautiful
Outstanding video! I am an American cyclist and have done several tours myself, but this one is something else! I would like to do the transamerica ride from west to east, but once I clear Colorado, I would be too bored. Maybe one day, but not at this point in my life.
Thank you for the great and honest review. It is awesome to see a review that does not concentrate in the nonsense unboxing.
Glad it was helpful! Unboxing a Canyon is very easy. Just the front wheel, seat tube and handlebar. I am not into tutorials. Right now I am touring with this bike, so I’ll probably review the bike once again at the end of the season.
This seems like a lot of fun, but I just can't be on roads like that. Especially with 3 inch wide shoulders.
I see your worries. It was very scary, many times. Maximum focus is required. Consider that in Europe, roads are often smaller and shoulders too.
Thank you for this realistic and normal-guy review, exactly what I need.
Glad it was helpful! It’s just my new bike, no sponsor or odd deals. Tomorrow I’lll start my first trip with this Canyon 👍
@@vladywashere would love to see you post about your trip!
@@vladywashere Care to share your height and leg inseam? Debating if I need a Small or XS frame. Im 5’8” and 30” inseam. Thanks 🙏🏻
@@baksi07 a bit tricky here. I am about your size, maybe slightly shorter in cm, but my inseam is longer. Mine is S. Don’t be too afraid, I guess the Canyon would place you between sizes. In that case, it is safe to go for both. I can ride my bike without any issue or pain. My rear rack is Tortec.
@@vladywashere I appreciate the reply and help. Will leaning towards the ‘S’ frame thank you brother 👊🏼

It’s a classic
I thought it was ridiculous someone posted a 2 hour RUclips video. Then I ridiculously watched the whole thing. 🙃
1h & 20min. It is not thaaaaat unusual for bike trips 👍
Very well done for 80 days sir! Excellent footage! Sometimes the hard part of these trips is to capture the scenery and the day to day ups and downs. The 1 or 2 people I met day to day on my trip were definitely the best part.
Many thanks! It is a challenge to film and document both highlights and lows. Sometime one can’t focus. I am currently traveling and I face again that challenge. It is a side activity, it is already a success to collect a good five quality minutes of film a day.
The rear rack is gorgeus, may i know where you bought it?
I am not sure if the silver colour is still available, but it is a Tortec Epic www.amazon.se/Tortec-Alloy-bakre-svart-26-700C/dp/B00DQSE6EE/ref=asc_df_B00DQSE6EE/?tag=shpngadsglesm-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=483353033272&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=16115819789447569837&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1012234&hvtargid=pla-698180068251&psc=1&mcid=ae58352421003b8294b811a5d39d10f6

Thanks to both of you! :) exactly, I personally thought it wasn't doable or I wasn't sure I could do it within the 90 days of my visa.
You've been riding Apex 1x12 for some time now. and now would you buy an apex or grx 1x12? in the case of grizl, of course
I haven’t tried myself the GRX, that is the problem: I can’t compare the two. Shimano GRX is more expensive and probably is better, but it’s personal. I know it has two levers, while SRAM uses only one. It is better to have two separate levers in my opinion.
Is it enough 1x- 11 speed cassete? E.g riding on road
Mine is 1x12. 40 in front and 11-44 on the back. It is sufficient, what you will miss with a similar drivetrain are the very strong speeds for pedaling over 50 km/h. Dedicated road bikes in fact should not have 1BY system.
Even the color is gorgeous
The 6 comes in only two colors, this one and a light green called “Sencha”.
@@vladywashere is it Darjeeling or Earl Gray?
Hello Alexey Darjeeling
@@vladywashere Thank you! Also ordered in this color. Love it so much on the video! Can't wait for delivery.
