    OK, you missed us as essential essential part of this. What kind of numbing cream?? Being a penis is so sensitive and some areas that are not. • @maletenance
      @maletenance 6 дней назад

      Hi, It is lidocaine and can be used on the penis. How to use it A commercial applicator or a needle-free syringe can be used to apply 5 mL of 2% lidocaine gel into the urethra. When to use it The time between applying the gel and inserting the catheter can vary from 5 to 25 minutes. Safety Lidocaine hydrochloride gel is generally considered safe for use in patients with an intact urethra. However, people with urethral injuries or lesions may experience severe adverse effects. Other considerations Some studies have shown that lidocaine gel can reduce pain during catheterization, but there is mixed evidence on how much pain it reduces. Other factors that may affect pain levels include the size of the catheter, the patient's age, and the skill of the person inserting it. Other lubricants that can be used for catheter insertion include silicone oil and K-Y jelly. Hello mate, I am 44 years female and I had my first surgery of utures removal which caused vaginal fistula or some bladder damage causing frequent urine leaks and when I consulted with urologists , they said I need to have surgery to repair bladder and need to put catheter and urine bag for 4 weeks. When my urologists removed the catheter i didn't have leakage or any other type of urine leaks like utures surgery like while sitting or walking but as you said in video I have experienced the same situation like when I thought of going for pee some urine leaks. So my question is this situation a normal or my surgery for bladder repair didn't work. But if it's normal how many days would it be to gain normal control of my bladder for urination.

      Hi, I started exercises, if memory serves, a coupla of weeks before my prostatectomy. I had my catheter for over three months and would have started sooner had I known. Did you find the link in the description on how to do the Kegels? I had my catheter after my surgery for a few weeks. I actually woke up with more tubes in me than when I went under. I had a regular indwelling catheter, a suprapubic catheter (abdomen), and a blood drain. I did a video about it. Not trying to scare you, as you may be totally fine, but you might want to ask your urologist just to be informed. I did not and woke up post-surgery and looked under sheets and felt like Frankenstein. Knowledge is power. If you have any questions, I'm happy to jump on a call. I've spoken to a ton of guys, and it helps to talk to someone who's been there and done that. Regardless, I wish you a successful surgery, a speedy recovery, and great health moving forward. @maletenance 19 дней назад

      Hi, I'm so glad the video helped you out. It is the simplest thing that can make such a huge difference. They don't tell you anything in the hospital or doctor's office. I had my catheter because I was diagnosed with BPH....basically, my prostate had grown so large it blocked the pee hole. I had symptoms but ignored them like many guys do, and I paid the price. Oh well, it's in the past now. I had it in for a little over three months pre-surgery. I learned a lot because they put it in the ER and sent me home. I had to figure everything out on my own because there was no one talking about how to live with the damn thing. Then, I decided to share my knowledge in the videos to help others. I don't have all the answers, but the channel has helped thousands and thousands for that, I'm proud and humbled. I looked up your diagnosis, and I'm sorry you have to deal with it. How are you doing?

    • @hann4h3
      @hann4h3 19 дней назад

      @@maletenance wow! that is honestly kind of irresponsible of the ER staff to just send you home with no knowledge. i'm really grateful for your videos though!!! so it's nice how something not great can lead to something really amazing. i'm doing alright right now... i recovered faster than a lot of other patients with CES mobility-wise, probably because i'm only 19 and CES is seemingly more common in older individuals. so i'm walking around with basically no pain and only occassionally have to take a bit of tylenol when it annoys me. i still have to deal with dressing on my surgery wound, and i have two mobility restrictions (can't bend over more than 90 degrees and i can't lift more than 10lbs), but it's not a big deal. my biggest hurdle right now is the catheter and my urination retention. i still haven't gotten sensation back down there, despite really trying to stimulate it back via walking everyday, which was recommended by my surgeon and nurses. i have a urology appointment in a week though so hopefully i'll get more insight. thanks again for your videos :)

    • @maletenance
      @maletenance 19 дней назад

      Yes, it is very irresponsible of the ER staff. Unfortunately, it is more common than not, as I've heard so many say the same thing. I'm working to change that. So yes, something really good has come out of something not-so-good. I also recently was awarded a patent for a new and improved catheter that is user-friendly. It was actually quite simple, but only a person who had to deal with a catheter could have figured it out. It will help millions when it comes to market. Regarding your CES, it's good to hear you are doing better with your mobility. Your age as you mention is working in your favor. You also seem to have a very positive approach, and that is a great strength for someone so young. You seem wise beyond your years. I hope you get the insights you're seeking and it's all positive in getting you back to continence. Keep me posted.....I'm rooting for you. Cheers, Tony

      @maletenance 21 день назад

      Awwww, man, it makes me so freakin happy to know that the video helped you. It still gets me, and I'll never get over it, that yet again, another person searched for information on how to live with a catheter because the hospital told them NOTHING!!! I just don't understand how everything else has directions, information, and instructions for use, and this does not. Makes no sense. I'm working on it so that more hospitals, and doctors' offices offer the channel as a guide.....not medical information......practical tips from someone who has had to live with a catheter. It's a tough thing since I'm not a medical professional, but the number of people that come here looking for info and say thank you, says things have to change. How long do you have to have a catheter, and what was your diagnosis if you don't mind me asking. Cheers, Tony

    Hi Tony, I only found your videos after I had suffered for many months with a foley catheter, the spasms and discomfort were from hell, my urologist then suggested that a SPC cath would be much more comfortable, my Detrusor muscle in the bladder has hardened and it looks like the SPC will be a permanant one. There are pros & cons with the SPC, for me mostly pros, I must say that 90% of pain & discomfort of the foley cath is not happening any more, BUT you still have to be very careful how you go about daily movements, with me I've found out that wind can cause pressure on the bladder and spasms become painful, I've also found that you MUST drink no less than 2lt of water to keep the cath "floating" & not touching any part of the bladder, I dont wear a bag during the day only doing so at night, daytime I use a valve/tap on end of cath.

      Hi Robert, I'm sorry you found the videos after you'd gone through so much. I wish the videos were offered as practical peer support in the ER and doctor's offices, as it would help so many dealing with an indwelling catheter. I'm working on it. I'm sorry you have been dealing with so much and may have to SPC into the future. I don't know much about SPC.....I only had mine for a short while after surgery.....but I do think it's important to share the details... good and bad...as it will be an option for many. Maybe we can do a video (you don't have to be on camera, just your voice) as you have figured out some ways to manage some of the issues that have arisen....especially the bladder spasms. You know firsthand the pros and cons. If not I completely understand and I wish you all the best and thank you for sharing....people read the comments and will get the information. Tony

    Had one fitted last Friday due to BPH , absolutely hate it, i get around 5 bladder spasms a day ive been told it has to stay till the 12th Sept, the most pain i get is from lack of lubrication, if sitting for a time it seems to get dry around the area it enters the penis, then if you go to stand up it grips the pipe, certainly makes your eyes water, according to the literature UK, i was given you should not use any lubrication due to contamination and risk of infection,

      Hi Nick, Firstly, I'm sorry you have to deal with all of this. I know firsthand all the crap that goes along with a diagnosis of BPH and having to live with the archaic torture device. Here's what I recommend because it's too late to get a lubricated catheter, you can use KY gel. Of course, be hyper-vigilant when applying to not cause an infection. Wash your hands first or use gloves. No vaseline. As for the bladder spasms, there is a prescription you can get to help. I don't remember the name of it but I'm sure your doctor/urologist will know. May I ask what the plan is moving forward and what procedure/option/medication you will take to rectify your BPH?

    OMG so real! I never had an issue with the “crusting”, until the last catheter I had. The nurse clearly was “not a regular” catheter inserter, she even ask another nurse to “standby”. Anyway, I think the reason I had issues this time, was precisely because she put too much of the tube in… so there was that “room” for movement. Anyway, I cleaned and showered daily, so thankfully it wasn’t a major issue , but yeah, watch for the crust people!

      Hi Jacob, from what I understand people can live with a urinary catheter for many years. If you have mobility issues and are sedentary you may not find it painful or cumbersome to deal with. That said immobility has its fair share of cons but that's another thing entirely. Each person's journey and choices will be different depending on various things....lifestyle, age, pre-existing health issues, and diagnosis. etc. I have heard of some people who opt for a suprapubic catheter (through the abdomen) as it cuts down on UTIs. However either way comes with its own pros and cons.

      It's so strange that the urologist just wants to do a procedure without a clue as to what's causing the problem. You're right to be concerned especially for your future. Can you switch urologists? Also, I believe doctors cannot suggest anything homeopathic. It might be a liability. I was on a bunch of prescription medications to shrink my prostate but unfortunately, my prostate was too large and irregular in shape to have any effect. My only option was surgery. Had I tried some of the holistic approaches when I first noticed my urine flow slowing down years ago, it might have worked but I was in denial. My goal now is just to continue my catheter peer support and advocate for men to take a comprehensive approach to their health not a reactive one.

  • @happycat0411
    @happycat0411 Месяц назад

    Great information! I just removed my catheter myself after wearing a catheter for almost 8 months. I still have a hard time peeing as the urine just dribbles out so no full urine stream yet but it is good to know that to get back the muscles that control urine flow takes time. Problem is I had kidney stones, then that was also followed an enlarged prostate, then that was followed by an urinary tract infection (caused by the catheter) > all within 8 months. As well doctors kept giving me the runaround and just told me to get a TURP operation. Most doctors would tell me the exact same thing or that I would probably have to wear a catheter permanently as well. Aside from that getting a catheter removed at a clinic is pretty much impossible as most doctors are not even willing.... One thing I have learned is to research the health problem yourself. This way, if you are at the doctor's office and your have a disagreement with your doctor, at least you can back up what you tell the doctor. I told the doctor that I was taking 50 mg of zinc, eating raw garlic daily, taking 1000iu of vitamin D daily, 500 mg of Calcium (every second day, 500 mg of vitamin C + 3600 mg of saw palmetto (every second day) . Doctor ended up telling me that all the supplements I have been taking should work. I even had the hospital do an ultrasound to check the status of my kidneys, bladder, and prostate b/c that way it is hard for any doctor to argue with the test results.... Life was truly insane with a catheter!!!! Even worse is having to hold 1.5 litres of urine in one's bladder for three hours in the Emergency Ward was like sheer torture!!! The only reason I did this was a professor who was a good friend of mine died from prostate cancer at 65. Doctors should have put my friend on high zinc supplements, saw palmetto, and raw garlic.... as that is exactly how I managed to control my enlarged prostate problem....

      Hi, I'm pleased that the informational videos helped you out. It's not easy living with a catheter as you know full well, and it's only made worse that no practical information is provided by doctors/nurses/urologists. I'm sure you're thrilled to no longer have to deal with all. You have certainly had to deal with a lot. I missed the whole kidney stones part but the prostate enlargement and UTIs I know all about. I ended up having a prostatectomy. Would I do it again? Had I done what you suggested and educated myself to become more knowledgeable I might have taken a different path. It is what it is. I am curious, and if you wouldn't mind sharing, how much did your prostate shrink whilst doing the zinc, saw palmetto, raw garlic, etc mix? How big was your prostate and what was your PSA? This is great to know as it will help others. I have heard both positive and negative things and I would guess it's based on each individual's diagnosis. I don't know much about this path. I did the other way with prescription meds but unfortunately, it was in vain as my prostate had grown exponentially and irregular in shape. That led me, like you to the ER and my first encounter with a catheter. After six tries by nurses jabbing and poking me, the on-call urologist finally got it in on his first try. Over a liter came out. I never felt such relief but it was short-lived because the pain of the catheter took its place. It's been a journey and I'm peeing like a racehorse. I do hope you too will start to experience again the simple joy of urinating with a strong slow and effortless starting and stopping. Thank you for sharing. Cheers Tony

      @@maletenance Yes, I had a 1.5 litres in me one time and I thought my brain was going to explode! I would say that the saw palmetto, zinc, and raw garlic made things go back pretty much to normal, but I would guess that 60% ~ 70% reduction in prostate size as I have not yet had another problem with regards to my prostate since Dec 2023. I tale 50 mg of zinc daily, 1000iu of vitamin D, 3600 mg of saw palmetto every second day (as it is a single capsule), and about 6 medium to large pieces of raw garlic (in a sandwich or wrap, or salad). I actually feel perfectly normal and my prostate is pretty good as well from my last ultrasound scan, other than the doctors don't really know what is causing the urinary retention problem. Flomax is just a waste of money and one doctor I visited said Flomax / Tamsulosin doesn't really work whatsoever. Raw garlic works better than anything b/c when the bladder starts to get full, the bladder pushes against the bowels which in turn causes one to crap every 30 minutes b/c as the bladder fills it needs to make more room and the only way it can do that is by forcing everything out of the bowels. This is why you feel you want to crap every 30 minutes if you have a urinary retention problem like myself. This in turn presses against the prostate and causes/irritates the prostate to swell or enlarge. As soon as I got home from emergency I just took 5 pieces of raw garlic in a cheese sandwich and what almost completely better by morning. The zinc will help replenish the zinc deficiency in the prostate which is the main reason why the prostate enlarges. Zinc is cheap and I've been taking the 50 mg of zinc daily for about 7 months and everything is back to normal. Zinc also boosts the immune system so that's an extra benefit as well. If you have blood in the rectal area, jst repeat the raw garlic trick 3X or 4X a day everyday for 4 or 5 days and everything will be back to normal. I've had that and the raw garlic did the trick and cured me completely. I'm not too sure about the saw palmetto but I'd rather try saw palmetto than take any doctor's advice. Why? I had to research the zinc supplements myself and found out that a enlarged prostate was due to a diet low in zinc (and I don't eat very much red meat). Raw garlic is good for people anyways as garlic also boosts the immune system and fights off cancers if the cancer is in its infancy to moderate stages. I do know this b/c back in my hometown in Sask. a farmer had prostate cancer and the local doctor also told him to eat as much raw garlic and he could stomach. Then after I moved to Calgary and began teaching the local janitor told me that his niece had breast cancer and the doctor also told her the same thing, eat as much raw garlic as she could stomach and come back for x-rays after three months. Sure enough after three months she came back for x-rays and her cancer was completely gone!

      Sounds like you have a recipe that works for you. From what I've learned from speaking to many people over the years, is that it's not a one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to incontinence whether you go a traditional way or a more holistic way, or a combination. Diagnosis, pre-existing health issues, weight, lifestyle, stress, access, resources, age and so on all play a role and have to be taken into consideration. Biology is so diverse and what works for one person may not work for another. What we do have in common, is that it's all very trying and we just want to be healthy again.

      I don't know much about Rezum, Turp, Urolift, etc. Rezum is less invasive but all procedures have side effects and risks. The one that is right for you will depend on many variables including but not limited to your diagnosis. Do your research, speak with your physician, and take your time to choose what's best for you. Hi, glad the video/s are helping. It's a real #$%@ having a catheter. As for bladder spasms, I didn't get any of those which I heard are terribly painful. I know there's a medication you can ask for but I don't remember the name. Ask your urologist. What I can recommend is that you slow everything down. I took my time with everything.....walking, sitting, going to the bathroom, getting in bed.....everything. It sucks because doing anything takes so much longer but if it helps to avoid bladder spasms then it's worth it. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask or email me at Tony.Alcindor@Maletenance.com. Cheers, Tony

I did get an rx for dealing with the bladder spasms but it didn’t work much (causes constipation as well) - still have them so it must be the catheter that is probably causing them Best of luck!

      Uff I’ve lived through bladder spasms, not fun. At first I thought that the catheter was coming out! I told the nurse and they explains the spams. And that it was “normal”. Then on, I just “rode the wave”, they didn’t usually last long. Curiously, I’ve had more than my fair share of catheters, and only in one occasion did I have repeated spasms. I might have to ask about catheter sizes.

    Yep, sounds pretty accurate. I'm 2 weeks post-op from bladder surgery and have to keep this thing in for another week. It has been hell. I can feel it 24/7 and it hurts, my bladder goes into spasms if the catheter is moved around too much. Bladder spasms are the most painful thing I've ever felt, and for some people they happen a ton while youve got a catheter in because your bladder is trying to push it out. Taking medicine that relaxes the bladder muscle has helped in addition to all of these tips. In the hospital I was exhausted trying to explain to them that I could NOT sit upright with it in. The neck pillow also works wonders. You also dont want to be constipated or have too much gas since the straining could also hurt and irritate the catheter.

    • @maletenance
      @maletenance Месяц назад

      Hey, I'm glad the videos and tips have helped. Sorry, you have to deal with all of this. Yeah, having a catheter is not fun. I don't know how some people do it. Like having a giant straw in your privates is a walk in the park. God bless them but it was awful. Something as basic as sitting now has to be thought about constantly. Know what I did also, I slowed everything down to a snail's pace....it helped so much to do everything in slow motion. Anyhow, I hope your recovery is going well and wishing you a speedy recovery. Cheers, Tony ps. Thanks for the tip about not straining. I might have to do a video about it.

    UK here - prostate cancer T3a six years back. Went onto the stampede trial - 6 X chemo. HDR Brachytherapy, 28 X RT. Became doubly incontinent for a while then catheter 18 months. Cancer PSA negligible and just came off a catheter for a second time after having bladder stones removed. Your advice re coming padded up to the TWOC (trial without catheter) is really spot on. Failed to bring gear the first time and what a mess, second with pads a breeze. Used an intermittent catheter for the first time this morning - brilliant freedom. Great advice - appreciate the honesty that can only come from first hand experience.

    Could u still go a little or nothing at all, because I’m in the middle, I think it’s from a medication called Pristiq tho, I’ve had all the test nothing shows as infection, so my doctor thinks it will get better but I’m doubtful at the moment.Its been 2 weeks of barely able to go.

      Hi, I could not go at all. During the days leading up to the stopping, there was starting and stopping of the flow, and the sensation to go but only a few dribbles, eventually nothing. Mind you, I knew something was going on for a few years in terms of my flow and always having to go and waking up multiple times a night but I ignored it. Something might be going on if you can barely go in 2 weeks..... that's kinda not normal. Is your doctor a urologist?

    My dad has had catheter for three months plus...though we have changed it like 4 or 5 times within the period because urine stopped flowing...his urine just flows into the bag and he has no feeling...expect when he checks the bag and sees urine....but presently, the catheter is in place and the urine is entering the bag but he has started complaining of feeling an intense pain when he wants to urinate. What could be the issue?

      It sounds like it could be bladder spasms, which can be very painful. These can come on at any time and without explanation. He should probably call his doctor who can prescribe a medication. The name escapes me but there is a particular medication for this issue. As for everything else....the bag filling without him realizing it is completely normal.
