My Shader: February 2025
Shader is Icarus, early access is for my supporters either through Patreon, or certain tiers of RUclips memberships(through discord link up).
-it's a pretty heavy shader at the moment and very alpha.
There should be playable profiles on most hardware, but don't expect to turn everything on or up to ultra and still get 60fps. That hardware / level of optimization doesn't exist yet, but I'm working on it. High is set to run 60fps on 4090. Low is 4x faster.

    I really appreciate you bringing something visually new to the table. Even though RT brought a new and beautiful perspective to games, I feel that unfortunately all the previous visual dreams have been overshadowed. The only thing we've had in the last 10 years were exactly the same proposals: “Broken / Limited RT” “4K useless details” “Bad optimization = Unplayable experiences” And finally after so many years these old dreams have started to be manufactured by Modders. -Spatial Audio -Unlimited horizons -Voxel destruction -Dynamic shadows (Especially for torches in hands) -The Fucking huge and realistic Clouds 🤍 Among other ideas that the industry left behind for so long but that are now rising from the ashes. Thank you for following this overshadowed path and trying to bring something different. The atmosphere that your shader is bringing is certainly a Dark Fantasy that many dreamed of seeing Minecraft have one day.

    This is THE BEST shader I have ever seen. This is next level heck I can even compare this to the graphical fidelity of big budget AAA games. My pc wouldnt handle this but I wish I had a chance to play Minecraft like this its so beautiful

    I just started watching video, but I get an idea in my head. Is it possible to synchronize fog density with render distance smoothly? I mean, imagine situation when you use 16 render distance, for example, and fog is dense enough to hide blocky shape of unrendered terrain\blocks and you can`t see rendering process? Upd. btw, why do wee see objects\terrain behind the smoke\fog effect? What setting causes that?

      @@apocalypsecat1665 yeah. It's something I just started so there's a lot to do with it still. Right now this immersive Fog option doesn't also do border fog, since I usually play with distant horizons, but I can make that an option. Seeing stuff through it is mostly just where I need to seperate the temporal accumulation. Raytracing is expensive so most things use samples from a few frames and accumulate them over time. The way I do this doesn't account for thick fog yet so it messes up when moving.

    It would be really cool if it were possible to add nice clouds, like the ones from Bliss, to Distant Horizons, along with a good shadow effect like the one there. I have no idea how hard it would be to add this, but I’d also love an option to customize the colors of the sunset, sunrise, night, and day separately. I’ve always wanted those pinkish sunset clouds from real life, but whenever I try to get that effect with shaders, the game always ends up looking way too saturated.

      There are clouds with shadows, even in distant horizons, but yeah that clouds style 5 doesn't have the best shape yet. Cloud style 4 is better shapes but only a cubemap at the current time. I specifically added stuff over the last month to be able to add more shapes easily, both as fast cubemaps and immersive volumes. Sunsets and sky color are configurable already, but the implementation varies per cloud style. Style 4 can have vanilla sunsets and biome fog colors or the same as 5 or hybrid versions. 5 you can change the duration and saturation of sunset, turn it off completely, or change the density of air and it's specular behavior and everything to really change the atmosphere. Some of the clouds styles already get pink/purple in the right situations. I am about to add a lot more options, like I said I started it, I just have been mostly focusing on structures to help the lighting and performance this last month. So I guess stay tuned. I am also going to port over code from another project that does full water cycle simulation, to get stuff like you've never seen before including dynamic cloud formation and evaporation/melting. And stuff like waterfalls will mist and that mist will get things wet.

      Yeah it's absolute trash with the new fog and especially the smoke, and already needed reworking. I've been messing with it and will be until I finish the lighting stuff I'm changing. It's a constant battle to balance ghosting vs noise vs performance.

      If you want to be safe ask on my discord, someone might have similar and be able to recommend settings and tell you fps. I have no idea how other systems perform unless someone tells me. It's generally a really heavy shader but there's a lot of range to adjust it.

    Tbh, while popular shaders have cool lightning, fancy effects, good optimization etc. this one has POTENTIAL I think that at the end of development this will be the BEST SHADER EVER MADE

    It's amazing you can do things like this to minecraft, but don't you think it would be better to optimize the existing features first before adding any new ones? Or do you already have a list of features you plan to add before refactoring and optimizing everything at once? Do you plan this shader to be actually playable in the furute, or is it only for cinematic shots?

      Hey thanks! It is playable for me unless I pump too much up. Default gets 100fps, low gets 240. High gets 60. I optimize in bursts, basically when high gets under 60fps for me, or I'm in the mood for it. I actually about tripled the fps this last month, because I added a lot that bogged it down and then spent a good chunk of time bringing it above what it was before that. Medium was down to 30 with the new lighting stuff and now it's like 100. There will be a big optimization sweep at the end, but that's a ways out. A lot of it actually is optimized really well, there's just a lot going on, like some of my lighting and materials stuff is more advanced than unreal 5. New stuff, clouds style 5, and the 3d grass shader are the least optimized at the moment. There is a roadmap of features, and other stuff gets added as surprise ideas or when it gets easy bc of other things I just did

      There's a built in CRT/vcr shader with a lot of options actually, I'll show it when I do this months main shader video on the next few days. The only thing not working about it is emulating the bulge and I don't have glitch lines.
