Met him here in puerto rico. And jeff watson. And jack blades. They all were incredibly cool and signed all my stuff. I took my yamaha rgx guitar and jeff and him signed it. I still have it.

l can only play his music on my Steinberger. For whatever reason, other than obvious 24 fret short scale. They nail the tone as well.

Brad Gillis plays his ass out on Ozzy’s Speak of the Devil dvd! Precisely these Ozzy songs. The guy is on fire. Is it blasphemous to say he plays them with the same high quality Randy did? Brilliant player!

Good interview which started sounding really silly when it became obvious it's sponsored by Carvin. They sound great, but don't try to hide it in a seemingly neutral interview, that's cringe. Legend of guitar and a lovely person.

RIP to the eternal king of legato. He actually said that he never really liked the guitar and that he wanted to play sax instead as a kid, so he decided to play it like a saxophone in his masterful mature years🎉❤

I only saw Alan performance live at a tiny bar where I was about 6 ft away. His performance was absolutely mind-blowing, as was Chad wackerman and I really do not remember the name of the bassist but he was also great as one would expect. At the break between sets I walked up to Alan at the bar to express my deep gratitude for his world class performance. Alan launched into a tirade about every mistake he ever made. To be perfectly honest I was deeply annoyed genuinely felt sorry for him for not recognizing what he had achieved.

It's the song that does it. Without the great songwriting, all the guitar shenanigans and shredding doesn't matter. Yngwie's very limited as a songwriter, RB not at all, creative genius !

Everyone has their own tastes. He had taken guitar into a mathmatical complexity more than anyone I had heard of. I think to "get" Holdsworth, you need to listen to modern jazz a bit more. John Coltrane was to the saxophone what Holdsworth was to the guitar. Think maybe less about conventional tonality and more into creation, then release of tensions. If you want something harmonically complex yet still beautiful in a profound way, check out his "Distance vrs Desire" off of the Sand album. Or another lovely piece is Tokyo Dream off of the Road Games album.

This guy was an absolute mastermind, prophetic genius guitarist/musician. It's people like this man along with John Scofield, Robben Ford, George Benson, and others who keep the fire burning for me. I can only dream to grow into one tenth of the player this man was. Astonishing as it is, most avid guitarists today have no idea that this man existed. What a shameful shame.
