In these videos i try to share with you my passion for wood turning
I started wood turning in 2016 when my wife bought me a lathe for my 60th birthday, I call this a hobby but my wife calls this an obsession. Any day I get to spend in my workshop is a great day for me

I try to use this woodturning channel as a platform to share ideas, and to demonstrate to other wood workers the steps needed to achieve this.
I use many different types of wood in varying combinations, as well as combining this with resins, i tend to use glass cast 50 as i can use this without the need of a pressure pot.
For my finishes I use things like Wood dyes spirit based and water based, high gloss wax and Boiled Linseed Oil - Danish oil and hard wax oil. I also like to experiment with differing textures to give my bowls a different feel to them

Iron red wood a one off piece of wood #119

This piece of wood was given to me by a friend who was working on the shore defences on the south coast, i think it is a piece of Iron red wood as this is resistant to damp and is predominantly used in these situations, it is extremely hard and very difficult to turn as one of its properties is that it is an abrasive wood and dulls tools very quickly I try to use this woodturning channel as a p...

Oak Urn with Resin Lid #117
Просмотров 359Год назад
This is an Urn turned from a piece of Oak with a resin and Yew lid, because i was so far out of the chuck i had to use a three wheel steady to support it, even then it was a very laborious task having to be extremally delicate. I pyrographed a wood pecker on the side, but forgot to record myself doing it. Im not sure if i like it, let me know what you think in the comments box I try to use this...

Nice bowl Steve, I have tried one of these before, the cut out is so hard lol 😀
First one was a bit like wearing your best suit ............... but with a pair of trainers on and a bogey on the end of your nose. But you stuck at it and got the result you were looking for. Good on you.
Thank you I think
That's a cool cat. Thanks for the video

Hi Steve! Mike Holton sent me, and I'm so glad he did. What a beautiful piece. I love watching your videos. Hope you get to 2k soon. More people need to know about you and your work.
Hi Kim glad you are enjoying the videos, only 7 subs to go so almost there. Mike has been great in support of my channel, which i really appreciate he really is a very genuine and kind person
Stunning piece!
Thanks Kim i did like the blue in this one and the fact that the grain was still visible through it
Beautiful
Thanks Clyde I'm glad you enjoyed it, i gave this piece to my brother in law today and he was extremely pleased with it
A lovely piece, Steve. I agree to give the gold leaf a miss, the grain and colour is special enough, no embellishment needed. Mike Holton is an inspiration to so many of us!
He certainly is he has so many innovative ideas that you don't see elsewhere
Very good !!! ( Brazil )
Thanks glad you enjoyed it
Hi Steve, thanks for the mention, I really appreciate it! The ebonising fluid worked so well, such an amazing dark colour and the texture around the rim was beautiful, I must get me one of those tools lol. All the best my friend, Mike
Thanks for the tip in the first place Mike
Another great project! Hopefully you will hit 2000 subs soon!
I hope so but it does seem to be taking a long time
Good job Steve!
Thanks Dave glad you enjoyed it
The grain in that piece of wood is fantastic! Your skills made it pop even more …. Wonderful job Steve 🤠🇨🇱
Thanks Randy, as i said in the video i hadn't done anything like this before and was very impressed with the results

Great video. Thanks

I was just thinking about walnut. Remember black walnut is toxic to dogs. Your new addition to the family is a cutie.
Thanks Morgan, I wasnt aware of that, i will be very careful in the future
Nothing wrong with miniatures , Steve. Some of my best work was done on a Proxxon mini-lathe,
Thanks Myk
That, my friend, is an awesome bit of play. Beautiful and functional. Thanks for sharing it with us 👍
You are more than welcome
Please continue to make video's. I appreciate your knowledge and ideas.
Thanks for that Jose, its really nice to have feedback like this
Cute Project
Thanks i particularly liked this
Thanks for sharing Steve
My pleasure!!
You have a winner here Steve
Thanks Brent glad you enjoyed it
Lovely. And very inspirational for us newbies. Very well done Sir 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Well Done, Steve, I really like that; more ideas to try! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks David
thats nice ,,, how thin can you get the wood ,,, asking for a friend
How thin does your friend want it, and what would the project be
I dont hear anybody else laughing
where did you get the blank from that size?
A neighbour of mine had a big old Ash tree come down in his garden and he let me cut it up and bring it home, i have several pieces this size
A beautiful piece of art indeed.
Thanks
Nicely done. It is indeed a piece of art, but it is also a functional bit of work. Bird seed in a dispenser is a bird feeder. Your object is a "people feeder." Put M &M candy in it. Of course it must be turned over and shaken lightly to dispense any into the hungry person's hand. Yes, a people feeder.
Good use for it im loving the imagination
Great techniques ….. beautiful piece Steve 🤠🇨🇱
glad you enjoyed it Randy
Nice little piece Steve!
Thanks i enjoyed this one
Very nice! Love the blue!
Thanks
Lazor burners have nothing on you Steve. Because I know how you did it. I think this is one of the prettiest pieces I have seen. Thank you so much for sharing. I will look for you on the next one. Be good

A piece of art indeed my friend 😊
Thanks Jojo
Nice to see you back Steve. That was a very enjoyable video. Thank you for sharing. See you on the next one

Lovely job, just makes my brain hurt a bit! Can I ask what pyrography machine you use?
I'm sorry but i don't know there is nothing on the box or the machine, but i will say that the first one i bought only had one pen and i was forever changing the tips this one has two pens and you select them by just pushing a switch, so much easier
