Reaction to How Money Works: The American Dream Isn't Dead
Nick ! I have an academic paper due this year for my junior year writing workshop in Economics. Any topic suggestions ? I want to focus on international development or other thought provoking economic topics
I have an idea. Do restrictions on foreign ownership of real estate help or impede the long term development of emerging economies?
I took a major loss I went to a private school I forced into going and I'm taking classes online raking up more debt in a different major probably in my 5th institution. You are right it's worse not finishing. So if I finish with this degree this time then it would have taken me 7-8 years for one degree. People who have gone have said it takes a long time then advertised.
Fourth!
Does “new money” eventually become “old money” once they’ve established themselves with assets and large amounts of wealth to pass on? I wonder if it becomes a natural evolution of people that build wealth and try to maintain it once they’ve plateau in growth.
Yes, if the fortune survives enough generations
Interesting. Thank you. A serious conversation about social class would also benefit from inclusion of a book or two on the British and the French power hierarchies.
Bubble in The Sun is a really good book on Real Estate, it tells you basically everything you need to know about the current California Real Estate market works. Which is why I hold an optimistic view on California Real Estate market, although it doesn’t look so good right now. Thanks Nick!
An interesting topic would be comparing old money families that survived social revolutions/upheaval vs those that didn't.
I agree
brilliant insight
Thanks
So this is just a bunch of speculation instead of hard facts.
Excellent analysis. 👍
Thanks
Watched 50 seconds and realized you are going to make this stupidly complicated when it's simple. Power, Control, Infleunce, Prestige, Security, Bordem & for some such as Sorros, Delusions of Grandeur & Self Deification. I shall return to the video now on 2x
WE ARE THE COUNTER ELITE THAT NEW MONEY BABY
Could you make a video about what a balanced government looks like? for example alternating right and left presidential terms, 8 years on 8 years off, right executive left legislative, etc etc
Short Term Stock purchases excluding ResearchTime, Understand Stock frequency and More - Maybe Long Term Constant Research and Including dividends - Typical Capitalist ideal
If you are a conservative, you probably understand this instinctively. If you are a liberal, it may be an awakening for you to discover most of what you believe isn't true.
This is an interesting video. I haven’t considered this before. I feel into the “moral decline” narrative, but now that you frame it this way, I think this story makes more sense. I think you make a really great point when it comes to gambling. The social cost of these types of behaviors has fallen significantly. Two nitpicks: 1) is it a fact that poor people do drugs at a higher rate than rich people? It might be, but I haven’t seen data either way. 2) when it comes to video games, the monetization strategy has shifted. The purchase price may be less on an inflation adjusted basis, but they make up for it in DLC and micro transactions. I bet all in all playing video games is more expensive now than it was In The past.
Simply explained thank you
You are welcome
I haven't watched this video yet but if he doesn't say 'to control the opposition' he hasn't worked out the game.
Rich people actually hate humanity. Soros is a perfect example
Real Talk... Don't forget about Atlanta.
I think two terms are conflated here. The 'old money' and the 'ruling class/the rich', you are using them as if they meant the same thing but imo they're not. The rich that don't recognize the noblesse oblige are for the most part not generational old money, but acually new money in 1st, 2nd or 3rd generation tops that were let in the ruling elite with the financial capital in the 70s or sillicon valey IT money. Real old money people for the most part don't show off. Of course there are exceptions either way, at least that's my impression.
New money has no regard for the noblesse oblige
Trump 2024! This is why the left supported Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Two incoherent goofballs who shouldn’t be anywhere near that office. They are puppets being played by the elitists and the globalists who do not have the American people’s best interest as their top priority.
by most people you meanat least the other 92% of the rest of us. and it's like 13 people who own 99% of all of the money in America and yes they are all on the left.
Of course it supports the left. These are the old aristocrats and slav e plantation owners.
My city Calgary the south is the richest part north east is the poor part north west is middle class to rich in parts
A lot of new money is Neo-Marxist. While some old money is, too, those who attended college recently and are successful monetarily are hard left on social issues while they live as though they are conservatives on social issues. New money might be more market oriented but corporate capitalism is fully Woke and one big reason is their employees are on the cultural Left as are many of their more affluent customers. Take a look at David Brooks' *Bobos in Paradise* on this odd phenomenon where people are all in for free markets and affluence and are simultaneously Marxist (as in the New Left, not classically Marxist).
This was a fascinating discussion and I learned a lot… thanks!
Give them break and circuses and they shall never revolt.
Los Angeles is like this hence “south central “

8:12 how would a challenger be able to work through the system? Couldn't the system just end him without any explanation?
What about communist regimes where everything is owned by the state?
Picking the right field is way more important than picking a college
SuhMAHmish
Bitcoin is the hidden weapon. Bitcoin is freedom.
This is a similar line of thinking to how some empires worked. Suppress wealth across the board. Keep everyone poor enough to not be a threat to the monarchy. Though I think that when a middle class emerges they seem to just strive to take the place at the top and the working class gets manipulated by both the upper and middle class for their own benefit.
My city probably would not win, but I would like to work with you on developing something like this for Memphis Tn and Birmingham Alabama
Again a very interesting look on things. I appreciate your view and analysis. Keep it up mate.
Your analysis is correct. USA is much more tax friendly for middle class. The top income tax rate map shown at around 1:00 is super misleading. As you point out, Europeans pay large sums in mandatory deductions (social security and health insurance), VAT and consumption taxes (gas, alcohol). In the Czech Rep., the effective tax rate is probably around 60% for the average person.
I like watching old videos to see what people got right.
Question. The right has always pushed for increased immigration. Though they would claim to be opposed, like build a wall, but will not impose sanctions on employers. For the most part tax cuts benefiting only the most wealthy.
The rich can buy a cheap index fund and beat basically all investments and threats of losing their status (at least the one based on wealth).. So my bet will be that they vote left not for all that was said in the video but probably bc they believe in that ideology
1. They didn't earn it. 2. They can afford for the country to fall apart. Simple as
Couldn’t you argue that highly developed countries are in need of a highly educated workforce for A) A stable and long lasting democracy B) The increase in demand of cognitive power I’m not American so we don’t have general ed in college nor do we pay incredibly high fees
Check out Fargo. Weird city and growong fast.
What makes Fargo weird? I know its the biggest city in North Dakota and near the MN border, but not much else about it.
