Phonola 3359 Record Changer

I picked up this Phonola 3359, made by The Waters Conley Company around 1960. It has 2 6bq5 (EL84) power tubes, 2 12ax7 preamp tubes, and a 5y3 rectifier. I replaced all of the capacitors, as they were all waxy capacitors and electrolytics. I added a fuse since there wasn’t one in the unit as well as a 3 prong power chord for safety. The speaker crossovers were replaced as well as the jacks and...

Nice quality Epiphone Les Paul Standard, a few issues we will fix to get it playing real nicely!
Hey T, I appreciate your videos, do you know a good resource we can find to learn how to properly replace those?
I came here to see your sights. Cause we have the same gun. I'm surprised to see someone with the same holster I use for paw patrol. Love the simple effective retention button.
Most of the failure to feeds I had with my Tisas were not magazine related at all. I spoke with 3 gunsmiths and they said the extractors are from the factory so he relived a little bit of tension on my extractor and fail to feeds never happened again ever after over 600 rounds now with many different magazines. I also used a brass brush and scrubbed the feed ramp clean on finish coating that was on it and that’s it’s. Now I did buy a Wilson Combat magazine catch spring and replaced the one by Tisas because the factory one would break your fingers pushing the button because it was so stiff.
Nice Video
Sand or file a radius on the sharp corners if the grip saftey ,it can remedy the "hammer bite"
I haven't been so lucky i just got mine 2 weeks ago and ran 100 rounds of federal 230GR ball and had 2 jams and one issue where the slide locked prematurely with 3 rounds left in the Mag
Are you using stock mags? The only issue i had was the mecgar- get yourself a nice magazine and I bet that goes away
Horrible sound
Look in the comments there’s a link to a video with better sound. It should be pinned.
No need to take the thumb safety out when field stripping the firearm.
That’s the second part of the video where I start to describe further disassembling
Man I just rebuilt my gi rock island with all Wilson parts she runs really smooth now. May I ask what sights are those ?
Trijicon night sights! They are the narrow tendon stake on sights to fit this pistol
@@tsloth1390 thanks I’ll have to research what requirements mine will need as far as wide or narrow tenon
Thanks for this bro, iv just started to mod mine your info was very helpful...
I have a rock island GI but I’ve probably got about 900 bucks in parts on the gun now and countless hours of hand fitting them. I had to rebuild mine because I put roughly 23 thousand rounds through it over the course of 8 years. I just love mine and didn’t want a new gun.
Where did you get the flat mainspring? Would love to do this to mine for the "pre A1" look.
I don’t remember, sorry. Maybe Brownells or fusion firearms. I know I got it online
@@tsloth1390 Ill start looking there thanks yours looks great!
🎉🎉🎉
How do you know that the slide and frame are forged and not cast?
Tisas doesn’t cast these parts in general. There are no casting marks. In fact recently they’ve stopped using MIM parts like you’ll find on mine (the hammer and the slide catch). They advertise 42CrM04 Forged Carbon Steel or 420A Forged Stainless Steel for all their 1911’s and from filing on their parts this seems to be accurate.
The frame is cast, the slide is forged
Great gun. I never want to be negative, but do yourself a favor. Get rid of that Serpa holster. It is unreliable and the release paddle does not always work. Especially, if debris settles in the crevices around the paddle, over time. This has been well documented. I very recently acquired the USMC version. Only gripe I had, is it came with a thin, type E hammer. I like your A1 wide spur hammer. I ordered one from Tisas USA, and plan to install it myself, when it comes in.
I’ve heard that since posting these videos, along with rust issues with the pin on the release paddle, I just haven’t had any issues with it. This is not my edc so I’ll probably just use it until the day it catches, as my life doesn’t depend on this one. Thanks for your advice!
I enjoyed your video!
How did you change the sights
That shooter there bites you ,just take a little shot of moonshine . It’ll grow some hair on your chest. Solid content
The affordable Tisas is at par with the more famous expensively hyped 1911 brands out there. Bang for bang it’s even eating up all the different ammos I fed. The style ( US Army) is superbly done. Accurate and very reliable. Maybe someday very soon it would create a name for itself in the 1911 field. To those who owns a Tisas 1911, I’d say you knows surely knows that everyone doesn’t know yet, you’ve got a good piece of forged metal.
can you provide a link to where you bought the safety? I looked on their website but didn't see this?
The grip safety or thumb safety? I got the thumb safety from Brownell’s
speak up !
Keep it simple as in factory stock. You not smarter than J.M.B. St.Paul,Minnesota.
I just found one of these in a rage room and, with the owner’s permission, took it home. Not sure what my next step will be. Don’t know if it works but it’s beautiful.
That is incredibly sad, I’m glad you rescued it, what a wasteful society we live in! I’m sure it needs work that is probably out of the scope of most people’s ability and knowledge. Email slothtronix@gmail.com and we can talk about what is involved if you would like
@@tsloth1390, okay, thanks!
You added sights to it front and rear? Did you do any other mods? Thank you for the guide rod explanation. I just bought one because of your video, took it apart and thought oh crap. Two sides to the spring, oops, but you explained it so thank you!
Yes, check out my other videos for the other mods I did quite a few, glad I could help!
Nice! I have a tisas 1911a1 as well. Don’t wanna shoot any of my originals so this is the next best thing. I’ve been reading from a lot of tisas owners the firing pin stop is kinda cheap and many have had theirs crack and they replaced it with a $19 Wilson bullet proof which I’m def gunna do. Was the firing pin drop in, no fitting? Was planning on doing that at the same time just to add a bit of durability.
Darn reliable pistol. Plus 1 on the sights! Nice.
Can you chew your fingernails any shorter? Gross! You obviously spend lots of time with your fingers in your mouth! Yuck!
I love my tisas 1911! Super underrated gun. I’ve had it for two months , runs flawlessly. 250 rounds and counting not one hick up. Talk about bang for Buck! I love those sights, I can’t find the link?
Glad to hear, I really think they’re a great value for the money in my experience so far! I found my sights locally for like $100 on sale so you may want to hunt around a bit but the same exact sights are here: www.midwayusa.com/product/1005965738
Nice rig:)
Best 1911 MOD i ever seen, you don’t make Starwar laser gun it’s still real 1911 just upgrade it
I really do enjoy it, thanks!
It is irresponsible to dry-fire your weapon without first checking to see if it it loaded. Otherwise, nice pistol.
I’ve addressed this before but of course I checked…in fact I had just disassembled it, I would never dry fire a gun that I wasn’t 100% about and neither should anyone else! I apologize for not showing it on camera.
Did you say “Tee-Zash” 😅
Pretty much! It’s an S not a Z but that is indeed the correct pronunciation or very close to it
ruclips.net/video/PqzdFuraKzA/видео.html
@@tsloth1390 Well cool. I’ve always called it (Tee-Sauce), if that makes since. Either way, they are excellent hand guns.
@@vinson6337 yessir that works. It is a Turkish company and they even includes the accent in their logo sometimes but everyone knows what you mean either way!
@@tsloth1390 thanks for the education.
Mine come with two Check mate mags, one runs fine with fmj and hollow points, the other don't want to feed anything after the first round, the next 3 nose dive and fail to feed every time.
Yeah at least the Mec-Gar mag I havent had any issues since the break in period, I’d send that one in to get checked, have you inspected the spring and follower vs the other magazine?
Yeah, that’s why I don’t use anything but Wilson 47DC or CM mags when it comes to any 1911. Love the Tisas 1911A1 because of the 1940’s design but will not have any 1911 without what I think a 1911 mag should have been in the first place, an anti-tilt follower mag. Like a Wilson.
Can this guy talk any slower ?
People complain when I talk fast, put it on 1.5x speed if you would like!
February 2023. I bought a Tisas U.S. Army (WG) M1911A1 In .45ACP. It's a companion piece to my CMP acquired service grade 1943 M1911A1 Remington Rand. Side by side, they make a good pair. The fit and finish are impressive. A quality product that also shoots very well. The first magazine of 230 grain ball anmo I managed 4 of 7 on target, a standard steel silhouette target at FORTY yards. I ran through 150 rounds without a failure to feed or fire. The Tisas is a very nice piece. I expect to get many years of service out of it.
Head Here: ruclips.net/video/NuXAYme41kg/видео.html For the more recent video… quality is better!
If you wanted an upgraded one then why didn’t you just buy the upgraded one instead of the historical reproduction??
I wanted it for the frame, slide, and grip safety… that’s pretty much it and this configuration was what I was after. I would say this pistol is one of my two favorites to shoot right now. I’ve also answered this question before in the comments before if you’re curious.
I don’t understand buying a GI model and then trying to upgrade it.
To each their own at the end of the day, tastes differ. This 1911 was great in the original configuration for sure but when I bought it I was after the a1 style hammer, grip safety and slide and that’s pretty much it. I do like the color of the parkerized looking finish. It’s comfortable, accurate, reliable and durable. Also I think it’s stylish and a lot of other folks that have shot the pistol like it too, even folks that have sneered a bit at it at first. Also it helps that I’m fairly handy with relatively precise electronic and mechanical devices so nothing I’ve done has been particularly time consuming or difficult. The thumb safety for comfort the sights for a better picture, solid guide rod for weight and to have an extra on hand, recoil spring plug for the same reasons, the trigger, grips and mainspring housing are for comfort, and of course the screws for style and their torx heads. After everything I think it’s just what I was after. So I guess that’s why I like it, hope that helps!
Amen brother, us budget folk feel better buying a 400 1911 then upgrading as we see fit
@@squidboi8674 I agree! And also I always had big plans for this little gun! The machining of the forged frame and slide is really good for the price point so I feel like I got an excellent pistol for not too much money!
Any firearms video that does not start with a check showing the weapon is not loaded is totally irresponsible and should be ignored.
Fair enough, it was an oversight for sure. I did of course check before I pressed record.
Simmer down, Outlaw.
How did you install the front sight? There is no screw underneath.
It’s a stake on sight! You have to break off the old one, clear out the hole it mounts in and then you have to peen the new one in place and file smooth. I held the sight in a padded vice, held the slide in place while I peened the sight on with a hammer and punch. They sell an expensive tool for this but I was able to do it with the corner of a good 1/8” steel punch and then I used a needle file to smooth it out. Hope this helps.
@@tsloth1390 Nice job! I'd probably have someone do that on my gun. I ended up painting the front sight.
Speak up please
There was an issue with my old phone, check out the newer video if you would like!
Very interested in learning how to do a full disassembly of one for proper care and parts replacement.
Usually MecGars are fantastic magazines. Contact them and they will replace it.
I love mine. Put Colt grips on it to finish up the cloning. One thing that bugged me about your video, I never saw you clear that chamber. When you dry fired it I figured it was 50 50 on the one in the tube.
I cleared it before pressing record but noted.
You have slim line grip panels and standard grip screw bushings.Order a set of slimline grip screw bushings and they will fit flush on the grips, they come with new screws.Brownells sells them
They’re slim challis bushings i promise, they are very thin grips. I don’t mind them the way they are at all in fact, I go over this in the video.
I own a Tisas 45ACP and I loved it. few problems I’m having is.. as a lefty? Four things I had to modify but didn’t expect to spend $300 just to fit and snuggle my left hand. Do they have 1911 frame made for left hand only??
Not that I’m aware of, I think you need ambidextrous controls. So new slide catch, mag release, and thumb safety
Yes I heard ambidextrous will work. Thanks for replying back brother👍🏻 stay safe and stay shooting, Happy New Year🍻
If you like it I love it brother. It’s supposed to be fit for you. As long as it goes bang and hits its target, it’s good.
What mainspring housing did you use? I want to swap mine to flat and the fit and color match look good on yours. Thanks
Fusion firearms, it was inexpensive and gets the job done as well as the oem part and it’s more comfortable to me but there are a lot nicer options out there too.
Get rid of the Serpa holster. Many of us who are several years experienced in the firearms community do not condone the use of the Serpa. I had one, got rid of it as soon as I discovered the issue with the Serpa. It is a decent concept however executed poorly. The pin and spring for the push button retention lock are made from terribly cheap carbon steel. The pin and spring rust and the next thing you know your pistol is on the ground.
I just oil them so not a hint of rust but I’ll keep that in mind. The climate where I am is extremely dry so it’s not likely to be an issue for me. I’ve had it for a bit now and it seems to be holding up quite well but of course it’s good to hear others’ experiences. I think if the issue arises I’d probably look to repair it with better spring steel and hardened pin Thanks for your thoughts.
Question. I was considering the Serpa holster, so I'm glad I saw your comment. Got the A1. My first 1911, wanted for a long time. Can you give me some holster makes and models you might prefer? I'm definitely keeping mine old school. Would help me greatly. Thanks.
It’s your pistol but as fa as I’m concerned you have messed it up. 🇺🇸
Of course you're entitled to your opinion but i find its super comfortable to shoot, has some good sights and is as reliable as it gets so I'm quite fond of it at this point. Thanks for your input
What? Yes it is his pistol… How did he mess it up?
@RS I understand what Robert Lipsey is getting at, he took a GI 1911 replica and put upgrades on it that take away it’s original form. But it’s not his gun. The owner of the gun can do whatever he pleases and can enjoy it more for those upgrades. One would then say it’s not messed up or ruined, his gun his opinion. Everyone has different opinions and preferences 👍🏻
@@christophermead9800 yeah I thought that might have been what he was getting at but I wanted the frame, grip safety and hammer really, everything else I’d rather have the way I have it currently set up.
@@tsloth1390 For the price, Tisas makes an excellent project gun. You’re getting a forged frame and slide and a working sample 1911. I have the same pistol, the 1911 A1 US Army. I like the classics personally and left mine the way it is, but if I wanted to do a custom build, that would be the gun I would start with 👍🏻
