    Honestly. I’d say infuser for the win at the end of the day. You can get a used infuser for like 100 bucks on offer up. I really want a dual boiler but I just don’t see the value of you already have an infuser. It’s just too expensive and you have to wait longer for it to heat up when you turn it on

    Nice review / comparison :) Pyxis is just so cute and tiny, I think that's the main thing it's got going for it! I can't believe it's even more expensive than already expensive LUNAR, but does offer 0.01g accuracy, which the Lunar SHOULD for its price point as well, The Lunar kinda does have the option to display in 0.01g but probably not so accurately (I don't think they claim it's only accurate to 0.1g in the specs). You could probably change the Pyxis to display 0.1g and it will jump around less if you prefer! You definitely don't want to put a big Latte mug on the little baby Pyxis. Espresso shot glass should work better, still could see some obscuring the display, even a cortado cup on my Lunar sometimes obscures the display a little, if not positioned well. Using an app to mirror the display would help, but it's often annoying to use an app I have 2 smart scales and 99.9% of the time I don't bother with apps. The pad is nice because it insulates against shock and heat, apparently heat isn't good for the scale, but I just don't like the feel of putting down a hard cup down on an aluminum scale! It should cover more of the scale and/or have an adhesive option, on my Hiroia Jimmy the whole weighing pad has a nice silicon adhesive pad on it (I think it was an extra part my friend bought and installed, it doesn't come with it I believe) but it makes using the scale a lot nicer with the pad I find! LOL "your an coffee scale, that's your job!" I did find even with the Lunar it seems more unsure / sensitive, there's settings to change that, but I tried messing around with them and no matter what it seems to jump around a bit more than the Hiroia Jimmy which doesn't seem as affected by slight vibrations or a breeze. If you haven't played with the Pyxis settings, try tweaking that and see if it works better for you (assuming you haven't returned or re-sold it yet!). You might want to check out the Jimmy scale, it has a detachable, magnetic display which I thought was gimmicky at first, but for a large cup or for weighing out a bowl of coffee beans or something else it comes in very handy so the display portion is out of the way not obscured. It is a larger scale though so doesn't sit as nicely on some small espresso machines drip tray, but as a pro, it can also be used more comfortably for pour overs!

    Hello Sir. I am debating on that "BDB".. I was just wondering if you have made back to back drinks for friends/family. I entertain family quite alot. How do you feel this machine would keep up based on your experience? I know the brew boiler is only 300ml but I hear the temp recovery is good. Thanks. Enjoy your review of the BDB...

    • @CoffeewithKartikay
      @CoffeewithKartikay Год назад

      Great question. I've had a good experience running back to back for 6-7 drinks, but haven't tested beyond that. What really surprised me was the thermal stability of the saturated group head. No flushing necessary! About the 300ml brew boiler - I do hear water refilling the boiler, but it seems to take in small amounts every time and doesn't pause / standby in between. Honestly - some other RUclipsrs did a great job of validating this claim (Lance Hendrick) - do check out their videos!

    sounds like you said the portafilter isn't easy to switch around? i just bought a OEM bottomless portafilter in 58mm and will try out some after market baskets. i hear the stock baskets are good but if I can eliminate as many variables for making bad coffee im all for it. will you tinker with other portafilters/baskets? wondering also, if you have any tools you recommend for leveling the coffee once its distributed. i've seen some distrubutors that have different shapes on the bottom end (a separate tool than WDT) but not sure which would be best

    • @CoffeewithKartikay
      @CoffeewithKartikay Год назад

      Yup, as long as you're buying a portafilter that specifically mentions support for the BDB, you're in good hands. About baskets: I've been thinking of getting an IMS basket but I hear I need even better / more accurate pick prep. Haha! Holding off on that experimentation for a bit - but definitely plan to get to it later this year! Do tell me how your basket experiments come along!

    Yeah it takes 7 minutes for the steam and boiler but your group head may not be up to temp in 7 minutes if you've got the portafilter locked in. That's a lot of thermal mass to heat up.
