Everybody Dies 🫶
This short film/edit is intended to express the themes of impermanence, mortality, and love. Using different clips from disaster movies including Knowing, Terminator, 2012, and other geological documentaries, I wanted to to show the futility of the pursuit of immortality and permanence. The second theme is mortality and accepting one's inevitable death. While some of the clips may have been dark, even disturbing, I wanted to show life in a way that appreciates all its aspects, including its cyclical nature. This means not ignoring the aging process or decomposition but appreciating them as simply another unavoidable factor of life. The last theme can be understood through the choice of mu...

Today I wanted to discuss having a "fear of being perceived" or a hyper-awareness of oneself and how hyper-individualism and influencer culture create it. This video will discuss the origins of "the spotlight effect" from evolutionary causes to psychological and social anxiety. Towards the second half of the video, I will talk about cultural factors, like neoliberalism, hyper-individualism, soc...

How Celebrities Became Modern Gods
Просмотров 25 тыс.Месяц назад
How did celebrities become so huge? Why is "stan culture" so dominant today? How did we get here? Today I wanted to attempt to answer these questions and explain how the modern celebrity became God-like with their fan bases. From Taylor Swift and Beyonce to Elvis and The Beatles, celebrity culture has dominated American Society for over half a century, but you may be surprised to learn why that...
The REAL Reason Everyone is So Nostalgic Now

Why are Millenials and Gen Z so nostalgic? One of the biggest Gen Z trends at the moment is early 2000s-Y2K fashion, music, and aesthetics. From Charlie XCX and her new "brat" album to Troy Sivan and Ice Spice, Nostalgia is in and modernity is out. Today I wanted to explain why Gen Z and Millenials are so nostalgic for the chrome, bedazzled, Frutiger Aero, recession pop aesthetic of the past. I...
We Are Living In The Most Creative Time EVER

You are living in the most creative time in human history. Today I wanted to talk about art history, postmodernism, and how we have more creative freedom to express ourselves than ever before. From Lana del Rey and Ethel Cain choosing to "reject" the mainstream with their romanticized aesthetic to Chappell Roan and Lady Gaga using eccentric fashion and makeup. Today celebrities and musicians ha...
The Magic of Romanticizing Life: Lana Del Rey and Ethel Cain

Lana Del Rey and Ethel Cain are probably some of the most popular examples of celebrities that choose a "small-town romanticized aesthetic", but what you may not know is just how beneficial romanticizing your life in general can be. Ever since the meteoric rise of Lana Del Rey, social media, and later artists like Ethel Cain, reclaiming your narrative and appreciating your life has gained mains...
How Lana Del Rey Reinvented The Vintage Aesthetic
Просмотров 13 тыс.3 месяца назад
The rise of Lana Del Rey has been much more influential than I think many people understand. Ever since Lana first rose to prominence in June of 2011, her vintage Americana aesthetic has become a mainstream staple in pop culture. Today I wanted to talk about this and how from Born to Die and Honeymoon, to Blue Banisters and DYKTATUOB, Lana Del Rey has provided us with an immersive vintage exper...

Today I wanted to talk about how Lana Del Rey changed music and the world in general. Lana Del Rey goes by many names, Lizzy Grant, May Jailer, Sparkle Jump rope queen- but one thing is undeniable: her impact on pop culture. Lana helped to pioneer the "sad girl" trend and arguably the first to make the "vintage aesthetic" mainstream. In this Lana documentary/ video essay i will attempt to lay o...

I was at the spot where I was kinda popular. Not on a national or even international level, but a level enough to feel it. Where you get photographed and when people you don’t even know existed think they know more about you than you do and will do inadequate things to be “closer to you”. I never enjoyed that and to me it felt like it was my problem, because I got that not in a way I wished it would happen. So I was always thinking about keeping up and then using that “clout” to make what I truly WANT famous (and that would always vary, a movie, a book, a song etc) for people to see WhO i rEaLlY aM and I thought in that way it would feel rewarding. Until I realized it would never feel different from what it felt like… Because it was just a bunch of people who never cared about me to begin with, more like they were surrounded by people who seemed like they care and by caring more and having some access they one upped others and had something better than personal clout. It’s like “stealing” someone’s crush for them. You know a person likes someone “popular” and YOU had access to that popular person, not them. Eat it. Nothing good came out of it. If you monetize it, money is good. I understand famous people who do it for money only. If you gotta deal with this crap, at least gotta get paid. Probably will delete later.

Violent J talks about this in his book, whatever music you grew up bumping in your younger years, you will be nostalgic for that music forever. My dad told me the same, his favorites are all the stuff he listened to when he was young.

I remember talking to my friend at the turn of the century. He was going into the video phone business, he told me that one day video phones would dominate, and everybody would be able to make videos to connect, and we would be able to watch videos from whoever we want one day, I remember thinking he was overly enthusiastic, and how technologies rarely work out the way people imagine them in their humble beginnings.

You’re dead wrong about Lady Gaga rejecting the mainstream. She utterly and totally embraced it, save from her red carpet outfits and videoclip esthetic. Her music doesn’t have an ounce of experimental in it and was always aimed to appeal to top 50 radio type of listeners

My mom is somewhat narcissistic, and she educated me to become obsessed with my own success and appeal. All my life I've felt like I'm nothing, and that I need become famous. That's what my mother taught me. She was really ignored by her father as a kid, she faced bullying in school and got obsessed about becoming a ballerina. She is hurt because she never felt appreciated, and she made me feel the same. It's generational. Thanks for this video, is very helpful.

As a Nassim Nicholas Taleb stan, this video explains a whole lot about that beef. And why so many others have taken issue with him. On the face of it, he wants to be immune from any criticism, by placing himself on a pedestal . You can't be in the arena of ideas and on that pedestal at the same time.

Dude, there's always been nostalgia; notice how the first Back to the Future went back to 1955 and Nick at Nite ran 50s/early 60s b/w shows? That's because the now grown up Baby Boomers wanted to relive those childhood kinds of things and of course their kids got to see them as well (I was/am a HUGE fan of the early 60s Dennis the Menace sitcom) That was also the start of the baseball card boom where 50s/60s cards were quite coveted and sometimes valuable. Not only that but the second Back to the Future movie figured by 2015 there'd be the same sort of nostalgia for the 80s. Don't know if we ever got 80s Cafes but other than that they hit the nail right on the head!

I guess fame is like dancing on thin ice. Of course I agree with you on what you are talking about. But I think you can be strong enough to handle fame, even if your desire is from some insecurity or trauma. Like what if when I was a kid I dreamed of being famous and now I'm strong and confident enough to live a normal life but I still want to be famous. But in a good way. Just show what you can do and show your art. I think it is possible. If you understand

I wish there would be a mental health collective out here to help RUclipsrs get the help they need. They may have BPD. Boarderline Personality because you feel empty inside. As far as fame is concerned i tried acting in my childhood . I can sing but not like a rock star. Singing makes me happy. I grew up in a dysfunctional family that was loving but still struggling where i fit. My christian faith helps me and i have been through a lot of therapy but not the right therapy. I was diagnosed late in life of my problem's and i think my parents were more protective with me as much as they understood My story is way too long and healing takes time. Healing from things you realize and you can clearly see before you can help other's Help for those who want it. I like the idea of re-parenting and if people can adopt why not re-parent? I adopted a guy i had a crush on as a friend. I think I understood fairly early that being extremely rich was a good thing because, if nothing else, money does buy a lot of freedom of action, but fame should be avoided at all costs because it reduces that freedom, and the more you experience it, the less free you are. Being rich, anonymous, and, above all, HEALTHY, is the best way to live.

Just wanted to put this out there for those who were also asking: This video was my personal description of love. Still, we are all obviously our own people with our own experiences & I could never tell anyone about their first-hand experience with love. When I say some forms of love are “selfish”, I don’t mean to sound judgmental but just to point out how inherently ego-driven people are, even in their relationships. Life is hard and most of us have a lot of baggage and we subconsciously search for healing in other people, which is fine, but still to me not “true love”. When you are in “true love” you are healthy, healed, and full & this fullness allows you to focus on the other and fill them up, not *only* focus on how they fill you. It’s a selfless appreciation for the other and when both parties feel this way, you get an incredible bond that nourishes each other A lot of these comments are making me realize I may have not done as good of a job with details, but to clarify: true love (& all love) is reciprocal. I was in no way trying to say that love *should* be one-sided, but that when you do find your true love you will love them forever no matter what. It’s not that you’ll *never* have disagreements or “rough patches”, but just that your love for them will be so powerful that you cannot get mad/judgmental, or genuinely resentful. You just know/ appreciate them too well to get upset. To me, true love is unconditional and infinite, but realistic and well-rounded, unlike infatuation which makes it so rare, but again this is all my own beliefs and something as complex as love is def subjective on some level
