I never saw celebrities as gods. I used to think neil peart of rush as a master of his craft. Almost like a martial arts practicioner. Same goes with anybody who is world class. I don't see them as superhuman, but as highly skilled and can entertain people. The ability to entertain is what its all about. Luck is also a huge part. Some people had a good chance at being supported by major companies. But, jusr because you made it there doesn't mean you have mastered yourself. Self mastery is the ultimate form of enlightenment. We dont need too much money. Just enough financial control to not suffer. Most true musicians could care less about the recognition. They just wanted to create something they loved and connect with people and have a great time. They chose an identity and kept at it until they became that idenity completely.
It's just the poor or the middle class people that worship celebrities you rarely see billionaires or other millionaires Whorsipping a celebrity , Because they simply have what that celebrity has " money " With money comes power, you become more notorious And you really start thinking that no one's better than you Because you have the most important thing in the world And you have it a loooooooot Whenever I meet people that are not into this celebrity Whorsipping shit I get happy, Because the truth is These celebrities benefit a lot from us without giving us nothing Most of these celebrities are egocentric, narssistic people They don't care about you, they don't know you, they don't want to know who you are, they want to always have that relationship of fans - singer /actor actress, and that's all they really want while sucking all your money directly through tours and concerts or indirectly By maintaining their fame they get a lot of sponsorships, endorsements exct They are the soldiers of capitalism They suck all your intellect And you become a follower If you want to break free from the system Then you should no longer give a shit about those people We complain about capitalism All the time and how it ruined our lives But there's these 1% of people that will absolutely fight for the system that made them who they are Celebrities will do absolutely anything to sell you the best image of themselves but in reality they represent a much darker, painful reality As long as society continues to worship these celebrities they will always be poor intellectually, financially and spiritually Someone like Rihanna or Taylor swift has a net worth of 1,4 billion dollars in a country where millions of people can't afford education, health care, and don't know if they are going to have food on their tables or not I don't like how the world has become They are nothing without us And they make it seem like we are nothing without them Covid really exposed the true heros of this world And they are not your fav celebrities You can always love the art without necessarily obsessing over the artist Cause at the end of the day a celebrity is just a human being just like you but a with a much better bank account That's it

Yes, I do like this video. Thank you! It's like a clear-thinking update of what I learned studying sociology a couple of decades ago, before the internet. Celebrity Culture has been important for quite some time now, the question is how much, and in what way.
I love the thoughts you expressed in this. I also totally agree that it’s not new and it’s something humans want for some reason - to worship or idealize other humans. I grew up in a very intense, cult-like church that consumed my whole life. I couldn’t participate in or even like anything that was “worldly.” I’m sure partly because of that, I really enjoy fandoms now. I think it’s so fun to be able to get really into an artist’s music and dissect their references, or make fan art for a show I loved. I actually find it can be such a fun way to express yourself artistically and also find community. But I’m well aware that making any of those things into some perfect god-like being is dangerous. You’ll inevitably find out something that disappoints you or disagree with other fans in the community. This can cause major feelings of resentment if you aren’t careful. I did the same thing with my church, even though what I thought I was doing was putting “God first,” I wasn’t. I was just worshiping my tiny little worldview of what god was and therefore really just worshipping my church and the things I thought a “godly” person was supposed to do. When that came crashing down, it was devastating and so unsettling. I think we need to be aware enough that we can enjoy fandoms or celebrities without making it our entire life. BUT! Also, like you said, it is actually developmentally appropriate for kids/teens/young adults to do this as they find their place in the world and their own thoughts and opinions. Being aligned with, or even obsessed, with a certain fandom or genre is totally normal for younger people. The best thing they can have is stable loving parents or parental figures who model that they can love these things without it being all-consuming. ❤
i feel like they were even more of a modern god in like the 80s or something, you could only see these celebrities on a tv interview or reading about what feats michael jordan did in the newspaper since you couldn’t see highlights and not all games were televised. you’d hope they were in town, they were almost like myths, people were fainting watching michael jacksons shows in person. like seeing god in person or something lol. the internet destroyed celebrity but it’s crazy how it rebuilt itself.
And that’s the problem with modern society. Hi, I used to worship Madonna. And I’m still a fan but not obsessed anymore. When you get so caught up in the lives and goings on of another fallible human person-you may start to find yourself having similar problems as this human you worship. The deeper into this fandom I got, the less I would behave like myself. Changed political opinions, developed body dysmorphia, became narcissistic or completely fake in one-on-one interactions with people. And eventually I realized the effect worshipping this woman had on me and I stepped back and got more in tune with nature. Celebrity worship is not a cute aesthetic, it’s a societal problem.
I remember when I was a middle schooler I recorded on cassette the documentary about MK and Ashley Olsen on E! And I watched it so many times. So little time was airing in Italy and I wanted to be like them so bad lol. Lately it was the turn of Miley/Hannah Montana and I would buy magazines and cut all of her images and outfits. Now its so different with the internet
Totally. I don’t think we can escape the social hierarchy element of the human condition, but I feel like it would be so much better if nothing was on a big/global scale. We’ll all just be in our little communities and stay there and we’d have the artists of our community, the musicians, the leaders, etc. Having things/figures exist on a global scale is not good for us
Just discovered your channel. Great quality content, huge respect for being one of those creatives adding value to this platform. I swear to god this topic is something that has been floating on my mind for some days already and look what you come up with! Sometimes the casualties of life are just mind blowing lol

Really love this video! It’s weird to think about how I’ve created these parasocial relationships with so many musical artists. As a musician, I look up to them for their career success, but as you said in your video, it’s because I want a successful career in music. And I will forever relate musical eras with nostalgia. I can’t listen to Taylor’s folklore and evermore without being taken back to the pandemic.
Since God is represented in all things and people, it is only natural for the small part of the mind to deify those who seem to carry social standing ‘over’ us. I think of celebrities passed as archetypes to represent the divine. I think we in the end, worship the archetype the person plays in their art/music/persona, more than the real person. Why I wouldn’t want to meet some of my heroes in fact 😂
It's not an accident. Plus numbers for declining religious 'Christians' is not a big deal. A lot of them don't even believe in the actual Jesus Christ, they are just religious. The world has always praised worshiped idols. I just can't wait for the real Lord to return because this world has gone too far 😅
I love you and you mentality. I hope one day i can be as smart and wise like you!!!! You got a follower and subscriber from now on. ❤ Yeah I got the point.
About time someone posted this When people talk about decline in religion it's not that people don't have a God in their lives anymore. Celebrities just aren't recognised in religion statistics.
It definitely depends! I always used to loveeee being on Twitter (still do, but it is toxic) and was sucking up any information that was related to my fav celebrities. It started becoming less of an idolisation however and I've moved towards 'what the corporations do and create with these celebrities is actually completely fucked and unhealthy for everyone out there' - I do not like the big gap between us, and the rich and unreachable celebs. It creates a false narrative and contributes towards the society we live in right now, which is both great and totally fucked.
It’s interesting how atheists tease religious people about their devotion to ‘a man in the sky’, while at the same time a lot of them devote themselves to a meaningless life of consumption and end up being less content with life. The idea that they believe in nothing seems wrong to me. Everyone believes in something either consciously or subconsciously-consciously and being aware of what you believe, I think helps you be content with life.
This is a topic I’ve been interested in a long time. In Taylor’s new song Clara bow she sings “Your the new god were worshiping” There’s a cool two part documentary on RUclips by The Anadromist about Taylors fame that made me think called Taylor swift the goddess witch or a Christian and it touches on a lot of these fame topics and how a lot of Christians judge the celebrities but also acknowledge the same stuff in this video.
I mean…. Taylor also has a song called Dear Reader, in which she openly states “never take advice from someone who’s falling apart”, “you should find another guiding light but I shine so bright” and “you wouldn’t take my word for it if you knew who is talking”. Stan culture becomes unhealthy not only for the fans, but for the artists too who basically cease to feel like normal people.
well hearing their voices over and over again, them being gorgeous and very rich (or atleast potrayed like that) will let you believe their "special" almost god-like. But the media mouth was always dirty so people should back down a little from social media.
I don't agree that human beings default to a hierarchy by nature. I'm autistic so I definitely don't, but for a long time there's been what I believe to be a false assumption being made that this is the case, that humans will always default to hierarchies where one person is above another and I don't think that's true. Until we've deconstructed from all the systems that oppress us, it's impossible to know if that really is a key feature of the allistic brain/the majority, or if it's a by product of the allistic brain's indoctrination into the current societal structure, because you can't control out for that factor in a psychological study because the indoctrination is so pervasive. I also wanna remind ppl in the comments that historically this hasn't been the case, but because writing is so new all we have is archaeology and cave painting and most people don't understand those things so it feels like a really reductive way to look at it.... After all, indigenous communities exist today where allistics are the majority, because most people are allistic, yet they don't default to the social hierarchies most allistics in WS society default to. I think the only certainty about the allistic brain we can say is that it is wired to make mental shortcuts and assumptions, since that's what an allistic brain is, a brain that has gone thru synaptic pruning in late adolescence thru to about 25, which is why autistic brains are different: they don't go thru that synaptic pruning. I hope one day there are more autistics in the social psych field because I feel like many concepts in that field make WAY too many assumptions it shouldn't
but what about when you're passionate about the art and not the artist? focusing only in music for exemple, and not caring about stuff like becoming a model for a popular influencer. I mean you do support the artist, but only because of the art, not for his/her entire personal life
A loss of community and purpose is right. People need to look within themselves for true enlightenment, peace and happiness. Any kind of addiction to anything is just a distraction from reality which we should be looking at fixing instead of all the doom and gloom on the bullshit news. Basically go outside and touch some grass once in a while at least 😅
Non of these celebrities died for you on a cross the majority make fun of The Lord Jesus Christ. This is why the Lord says to not have any idols and false gods.
Worshiping Jesus Christ is still worshiping a man (ignoring the Trinity spat) who became super popular and then died at a young age. It's just as much celebrity culture with death romanticism as worshiping Kurt Cobain. Just because the Jesus Christ religion stayed popular through torture and oppression of populations around the world doesn't make it any better than worshiping any celebrity, especially when it leads to disappointment in the end if this parasocial figure doesn't answer your prayers.
The bible is hugely misrepresented and "God" or whatever you call it, is just energy and part of all of us. Our subconscious. The whole thing about not worshipping false idols just means not giving your own power away to others because we are powerful co-creators in this reality. Read some Neville Goddard as he explains it well

Idolizing is just part of growing up. You look to "insert something you think is great" in order to emulate that via play or similar until you reach adulthood. Cave kids had idols, but they were probably the cool cave teen adult in the tribe etc. You enjoy soccer, you most likely idolize someone that is really skilled at it etc. Capitalism did not invent human behavior. People attribute too much to the economic system, in my view. Capitalism is doing the most with limited resources. Being as effective as possible in order to improve a metric that usually is money in a modern society. Linked with supply and demand, domestic and trade economic aspects.

And you really start thinking that no one's better than you
Because you have the most important thing in the world
And you have it a loooooooot
Whenever I meet people that are not into this celebrity Whorsipping shit I get happy,
Because the truth is
These celebrities benefit a lot from us without giving us nothing
Most of these celebrities are egocentric, narssistic people
They don't care about you, they don't know you, they don't want to know who you are, they want to always have that relationship of fans - singer /actor actress, and that's all they really want while sucking all your money directly through tours and concerts or indirectly
By maintaining their fame they get a lot of sponsorships, endorsements exct
They are the soldiers of capitalism
They suck all your intellect
And you become a follower
If you want to break free from the system
Then you should no longer give a shit about those people
We complain about capitalism
All the time and how it ruined our lives
But there's these 1% of people that will absolutely fight for the system that made them who they are
Celebrities will do absolutely anything to sell you the best image of themselves but in reality they represent a much darker, painful reality
As long as society continues to worship these celebrities they will always be poor intellectually, financially and spiritually
Someone like Rihanna or Taylor swift has a net worth of 1,4 billion dollars in a country where millions of people can't afford education, health care, and don't know if they are going to have food on their tables or not
I don't like how the world has become
They are nothing without us
And they make it seem like we are nothing without them
Covid really exposed the true heros of this world
And they are not your fav celebrities
You can always love the art without necessarily obsessing over the artist
Cause at the end of the day a celebrity is just a human being just like you but a with a much better bank account
That's it
You should read write a book about that
I'll never understand how Trump became an American president. Never. Maybe because I'm not American myself. It's just super weird to us non-Americans. Like the movie "Idiocracy".
@@skye_belle888 The electoral college. He lost the popular vote. But also never underestimate American dumbassery
There is no left and right teams, it’s all a show. Manufactured show of distraction.
I love the art you have in the background of your videos. Great video!
It’s like the show “American Gods.”
Polytheism has generally been popular for most of human history it makes sense that the average individual worships many gods in celebrity, tech, any institution
With Hollywood declining at a staggering rate,I have a feeling that celebs will become obsolete in the next 15 - 30 years.
Love the Brooke Candy reference ✨
Another great vid from you 💗💗💗 one of the most cohesive commentaries I have seen on this topic.
Yes, I do like this video. Thank you! It's like a clear-thinking update of what I learned studying sociology a couple of decades ago, before the internet. Celebrity Culture has been important for quite some time now, the question is how much, and in what way.
your channel is sooo good keep up the good work💜
I love the thoughts you expressed in this.
What a great channel this is!
Keep going ma man!
you ate with this video fr
Very thought provoking. Bro should be teaching college courses 💯
Having things/figures exist on a global scale is not good for us
This
Just discovered your channel. Great quality content, huge respect for being one of those creatives adding value to this platform.
I swear to god this topic is something that has been floating on my mind for some days already and look what you come up with! Sometimes the casualties of life are just mind blowing lol
Literally never comment on videos but your channel is great
have you read the book or seen the tv adaptation American Gods ? ...its exactly what your talking about where concepts like Celebrity, tech , politics etc.. are represented by an actual pantheon of god characters
Really love this video! It’s weird to think about how I’ve created these parasocial relationships with so many musical artists. As a musician, I look up to them for their career success, but as you said in your video, it’s because I want a successful career in music. And I will forever relate musical eras with nostalgia. I can’t listen to Taylor’s folklore and evermore without being taken back to the pandemic.
this really just opened my eyes omg
u smart af bro. I'm now intrigued, why the face tats and what do they mean?
Since God is represented in all things and people, it is only natural for the small part of the mind to deify those who seem to carry social standing ‘over’ us. I think of celebrities passed as archetypes to represent the divine. I think we in the end, worship the archetype the person plays in their art/music/persona, more than the real person. Why I wouldn’t want to meet some of my heroes in fact 😂
Good observation
It's not an accident. Plus numbers for declining religious 'Christians' is not a big deal. A lot of them don't even believe in the actual Jesus Christ, they are just religious. The world has always praised worshiped idols. I just can't wait for the real Lord to return because this world has gone too far 😅
I love you and you mentality. I hope one day i can be as smart and wise like you!!!!
You got a follower and subscriber from now on. ❤
Yeah I got the point.
In my mind the words “celebrity” and “annoying asshole” are interchangeable
whats the song at 14:29 😫

THIS IS SO INTRESTINGG
About time someone posted this
When people talk about decline in religion it's not that people don't have a God in their lives anymore. Celebrities just aren't recognised in religion statistics.
BROKE CANDY 😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️
I think that I used to stan so many celebs and singers because of the lack of strong parental figures with good values.
I really enjoyed this video
Appreciate Brooke Candy in the thumbnail

It definitely depends! I always used to loveeee being on Twitter (still do, but it is toxic) and was sucking up any information that was related to my fav celebrities. It started becoming less of an idolisation however and I've moved towards 'what the corporations do and create with these celebrities is actually completely fucked and unhealthy for everyone out there' - I do not like the big gap between us, and the rich and unreachable celebs. It creates a false narrative and contributes towards the society we live in right now, which is both great and totally fucked.
This is so interesting omgg
Imagine having pictures of a famous person in your room
even if it’s already cancelled, the plot of the series American Gods at the end of the day, the gods just changed form in the mind of humans
It’s interesting how atheists tease religious people about their devotion to ‘a man in the sky’, while at the same time a lot of them devote themselves to a meaningless life of consumption and end up being less content with life.
The idea that they believe in nothing seems wrong to me. Everyone believes in something either consciously or subconsciously-consciously and being aware of what you believe, I think helps you be content with life.
i believe in myself
This is a topic I’ve been interested in a long time. In Taylor’s new song Clara bow she sings “Your the new god were worshiping”
There’s a cool two part documentary on RUclips by The Anadromist about Taylors fame that made me think called Taylor swift the goddess witch or a Christian and it touches on a lot of these fame topics and how a lot of Christians judge the celebrities but also acknowledge the same stuff in this video.
@@giuliabonechi1864 she was real for that. I think it takes a lot of courage to admit you aren't a good role model even though millions look up to you
well hearing their voices over and over again, them being gorgeous and very rich (or atleast potrayed like that) will let you believe their "special" almost god-like. But the media mouth was always dirty so people should back down a little from social media.
Damn. The devil smart asf
I hope one day there are more autistics in the social psych field because I feel like many concepts in that field make WAY too many assumptions it shouldn't
does anyone know the song from 14:28? I haven't heard it in forever
but what about when you're passionate about the art and not the artist? focusing only in music for exemple, and not caring about stuff like becoming a model for a popular influencer.

Jesus Christ is the one and only God.
Non of these celebrities died for you on a cross the majority make fun of The Lord Jesus Christ. This is why the Lord says to not have any idols and false gods.
Fiction

@@KrashyKharma I miss 2013-15 when she dominated on RUclips🤌 Opulence was so interesting to me & how she became a physical manifestation of wealth & excess. She honestly reminds me of a continuation of the “Gaga-type” celebrity
@@Sagethis 100% agreed - her later eras are still good, but she'll always be the freaky princess to me. It's funny how she kind of faded out right when the world finally caught up to her.
A god is in charge of something.
I think the western celebrity culture can evolve to what korean idol market is now. The korean idols are very relatable and even kind of accesible, but being gatekeeped from fans by their companies and showing them being extremely hardworking keeps them in the idol pedestal. It keeps on working, human nature is looking for something to worship somehow.
How could you not mention Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jackson, ect…?

It’s like the show “American Gods.”
