My FIRST wild camp ABROAD - Norway
Просмотров 3,1 тыс.Месяц назад
My first ever visit to Norway and my first ever wildcamp abroad. I flew out to Stavanger and hopped onto a bus out to the Lysefjord. Attempting to avoid the crowds of Preikestolen and Kjerag, I decided to plot what looked like a path less well trodden. The route was tough with almost every step requiring attention due to the bog and many trip hazards and wet rock but it was so worth it! I event...

A walk up from Honister slate mine to Fleetwith Pike, down to Dubs and Warnscale bothy’s, then back up to Haystacks for a camp. Stunning day, probably last decent one of the summer, bring on Autumn and Winter!
LAKE DISTRICT - Grisedale Pike and Coledale Valley - MLD Duomid, FIRST PITCH

Last minute wild camp to try out my new tent, the Mountain Laurel Designs Duomid. It was forecast to be windy, but to clear up in the evening so had hoped for a camp with some epic Lake District views. How wrong I was! Definitely not that enjoyable, but it's all good experience and it was a new area for me to dip my toe into. 100% I will return ( with two poles !!!)
EASY TO REACH WILD CAMP LOCATION WITH AN EPIC VIEW.

Wild Camping location in the Buttermere area of the Lake District. This small fell gives you amazing views for a very small amount of effort. Unusually I pitched up early and just took it all in, giving myself plenty of time to relax ( though most of it was spent chatting to the locals who dropped by, they might even have got an olive or two off me if they were nice!) Didn’t stick around for lo...

A stunning walk right up the Eskdale valley up to Esk pike. After Tongue Pot and Lingcove Bridge, I trudged my way up through the bog and bracken, with the Scafell range to my left, Crinkle Crags to the right and Bowfell ahead of me. Didn’t see a soul until I got up to Ore Gap. Bagged Esk Pike and then dropped down to one of my favourite places to pitch up for the night. Woke up to another glor...
LAKE DISTRICT Sheffield Pike - plan B WILD CAMP

Hike up to Sticks Pass from Glenridding and onwards to Stybarrow and Watson’s Dodd. Plan was to camp on Watson’s Dodd, but bailed due to wind and dropped back down to Sheffield Pike. The hike and camp was as a group to raise £5k for Duddon and Furness Mountain rescue team. gofund.me/7172e790
SOLO WILD CAMP in the English LAKE DISTRICT

A leisurely stroll up from Grasmere village to be greeted by views of FOUR lakes! This was the day after the summer solstice ( and my birthday) The weather wasn’t much to write home about as I settled in for the evening, but the following morning was glorious which can only mean one thing…get the drone out! A wonderful spot for a short walk or better still, a camp!

A short hike up from Old Dungheon Ghyll through the National Trust Car Park and up to Side Pike for a wild camp. Just 30 minutes to get up there for superb views of the Langdale Pikes, Bowfell, Crinkle Crags and Blea Tarn. I walked up the gorgeous Eskdale Valley in the Lake District from the Woolpack Inn campsite. A so followed the river Esk, I passed numerous waterfalls and plunge pools. Turning right and ascending after Lingcove Bridge, I set up camp in the shadows of Bowfell, Crinkle Crags, Esk Pile and had the Scafell range in sight when the flag intermittently cleared! The following morning, I ascended up to...

I walked from the village of Coniston in the southern Lake District up to the summit of Black Sails via the copper mines valley and Levers water. I walked from the village of Patterdale, skirting below Angle Tarn Pikes towards Hartsop and up towards Haweswater. I set off knowing that the weather conditions were set to be horrendous, but had still hoped I could get hover il to pitch a tent. Unfortunately I had a bit of a drama losing my phone in the Ghyll and lost precious time looking for it! This meant I settled for a spot next the the ...

I hiked up to Catbells in almost Spring like conditions before retracing my steps and bumbling up to Maiden Moor where I pitched up for the night. The following morning I went up to a snowy High Spy before dropping down to Borrowdale via Tongue Gill and the old quarries, ending off with a pint. Bliss!

Hike up to Glaramara in perfect winter conditions, with the night spent by High House Tarn. First run out for the Terra Nova Pioneer 2 on the fells. Bloody marvellous! One of my best camps yet with fantastic views all around. With Great Gable, Great End, Esk Pike and Bowfell being most prominent.

Brilliant video Dave 👍
Thanks. I’ll be testing you next week to make sure you watched all the way through 🤣
Great video and looks nice having a beer there!!
Yeah it’s a great spot. Thanks for watching!
New sub 😁
Thanks!
Nice video 👍🙂
Thanks for watching mate 👍🏻
I would be too scared of bumping into a Grizzly..
Don’t think there are any mate so no danger!
@@boolay75 A total of 150 brown bears were recorded in Norway in 2020, 65 females and 85 males. The majority were recorded along the border and presumably spend some of their lives in our neighbouring countries. (taken from google)
@@1-0-v6d Those aren't grizzly and are incredible rare.
@@nihlify Grizzly bears and brown bears are the same species
Arrive late, leave early; quite refreshing to see on RUclips. Cheers.
I’m not precious about setting up really late or leaving really early, but setting up 3 tents at 3 in the afternoon somewhere like Fleetwith Pike is ridiculous!
@boolay75 I know mate, it's getting out of hand now. Simple rules to follow, but sadly ignored by many.
love your aproach to Norwegian nature and your genuine interest in experience nature and pure living in its real form. i am a norwegian military veteran, with the same mindset as You. this is fabouless, and just the same as me myselves and I do everyday every summer. nature is king, and living syncted to nature is living life as it should be lived.........
Thank you. I love this comment!
Enjoy, and a Norwegian Viking subscribe today.
That’s great. First Viking!
Looks great! Would you recommend the pioneer? Are there any down sides? I'm after something for cycle camping year round, prob not in Dec or Jan or Feb though
Yeah I would recommend it definitely even though I sold mine on for something else. For the money it’s great, think I said it in a separate video, it’s a bit of a do it all tent and it perfect for one person. Fo bike packing to would be good as it packs down really small. I prefer my fjalraven but that costs nearly £200 more.
Underquilt is a absolute game changer, i honestly couldn't believe how much heat i felt when i started using one, i have the one tigris kompound hammock paired up with the one tigris hideout underblanket, well worth getting
That’s proper camping that Dave mate. Proper fire and a chilli with spuds swilled down with some red. Class video mate.
That hammock was brilliant. Most comfortable night I’ve ever had camping! Thanks for watching Richard.
Cant go wrong with a chile con carne
Indeed lad. Thanks for watching Daniel.

Fair enough. I’d never encourage camping on someone’s property though, just makes life easier 😊
You CAN actually camp on someones property, thats the whole point of the ‘Right to Roam’ act. Just not on cultivated land or closer than 200m to a building.
19:30 kinda looks like a fake movie scene. Nice!
Ha! Yeah I see what you mean!
Such a beautiful area! Last summer I hiked and wild camped on south side of the valley, towards Lysebotn. I also struggled to find a dry, flat spot. Thankfully I managed to find a beautiful area. I woke up to a group of sheep that were really friendly and stayed with me whilst I was drinking my cup of coffee
I didn’t film it but I also camped at Lyseboten at the side of a huge waterfall, stunning place!
Duomid looking canny 👌. If you get flat or inverted sides like that, try extending the pole. Also slacken off the bowed side and tighten the diagonally opposite corner, move the peg further out if needed then retighten the offending corner. It does help with that issue on bumby or sloping ground.
I was thinking maybe the poles aren’t long enough mate. Probably only needs another 10cm.
@@boolay75 I'll normally pitch my duomid at 145cm sometimes 150cm if it's bumby grass tussocks. The trick with slackening and tightening opposing corners does work as well.
Your dinner looked immense... Fair play! 🍜
Yeah, lovely. Be time for another woodland camp and feast soon I reckon 👍🏻
Some scenes in Norway man, like a scene from Star Wars. Great vid Dave mate.
Haha, was ready for them Ewoks pal in that little hut 😂 Thanks for watching, good to see channel going well mate.
The battle on planet Hoth was actually filmed in Norway.
Really nice video. Not walked up via that route, will have to give it a go one day. A friend directed me to this video as I get a mention from Richard. Keep 'em coming. Subscribed
He does mention you yes, and even though I said I didn’t know you, I had actually watched quite a few of your videos without realising! Thanks for the sub mate, will give you one back if I haven’t already. All the best.
Thanks for sharing ,what a beautiful place on earth you are in now ❣️
It’s stunning. I need to go back! Thanks for watching.
Great video mate. When I was watching it I was thinking that you could get some amazing “stills” from your video. Laughed out loud at your water source dilemma for your meal. Nice work pal 👍🤣
Haha, I’d rather have snorted that dehydrated meal than use the water from that!
You kept that one bloody quiet, looked absolutely stunning mate
It was spectacular. I went on a ferry right through the fjord and even that stunning. Wish I could have spent more time there and got a couple more camps in!
Looks like you had a great time. 🙂👍 Dont quite recognize the area from the map. Only been to Preikestolen in Lysefjorden
I tried to avoid Preikestolen as I just thought it would be too busy. I’ll put a link in the description in case you’re interest in the route.
@@boolay75 Yes its normally busy so great choice. Yes thanks 👍
Amazing scenery Dave what a beautiful place
It really is! Happy birthday mate.
Looked awesome that matey. Well done 👍
It was great fun. Will definitely go back again but further north. A freestanding tent would be handy though.
Hello hiking friend! Looks like you had an epic time, with a view to match. Thanks for sharing your adventure! 💕
Thanks, and thanks for watching!
Looked a nice route, took in a couple of Bothies as well. Love it that you scout out the better pitches for us viewer's to consider 👍. The Sainsburys Tent looked solid with your new Leki's. Where are you going next?
Yeah, it’s always fun finding your own, but if it helps people a little bit. I always encourage people to leave no trace as well 😀 Norway next mate, will be like starting all over again, but should be a good adventure!
@boolay75 I was expecting you to say Blencathra or Skiddaw, not Norway🫨. I'll look forward to seeing that video mate 👍
@@GoneWildCamping892 ha, it will either be epic or a disaster, all good fun though 😂
Great video 🙂 Subscribed!

Sainsbury’s bag orange 😂 Nice video mate. Still to camp at Haystacks yet.
It was like a rave by 10pm, could have done with your whistle mate 🤣

Thanks for watching!
Nice 👍🙂
Should call yourself the resilient camper. Well done for rescuing the camp. Beer and Vino 🍷 We'll deserved. I've subbed aswell. Looking forward to your future and past adventures, cheers Paul.
It felt like a better option than walking back to Keswick in the dark and paying 100 quid for a hotel to be honest! Thanks for the sub. I’ve subbed you back 👍🏻
You get to the point that shelter and safety are more important than views. Leki poles rarely let you down. I have been using them for 27 years. Parts are available too.
Just used them this weekend with the same tent. Like chalk and cheese, great bit of kit 👍🏻
Great video from the outdoors 🙂👍
Thank you 🙏🏻
@@boolay75 🙂👍
Are you based in Norway? I’m visiting for the first time next week.
@@boolay75 Yes. Where are you going? Subbed to your channel 🙂👍
@stigfloberghagenphotography Lysefjord area mainly.
New subscriber, great video mate.
Didn’t get many views this one but was probably one of my favourites! Thanks for watching and the sub mate 👍🏻
Nice spot. Just sub'd. Look forward to watching more of your videos. Cheers
Thanks for watching and the sub, much appreciated 👍🏻 Will plenty more on the way for sure!
Came here from the FB group this looks beautiful ❤
It’s a rightly popular spot. Gets very busy in the summer though! Thanks for watching ☺️
Now you have the perfect excuse to return to what is an absolutely beautiful area. I carry a dedicated pole and use Hiking poles, So have redundancy. Also think about double poling the shelter in wind, helps massively with the stress on the centre pole. I've had poles bend in the wind before, quite fascinating to watch 😂 I'm off out this weekend, weather looking it's normal daftness, see how I get on. Well done for rescuing a camp ⛰️🏕️👌
I always take two, but only had a single Alpkit one from a previous trip where I’d forgotten to take them. ( My Fizans aren’t long enough either) I didn’t really fancy a second one as seen some poor reviews and didn’t have much confidence in the carbon tarp pole they do either. Fancy something more robust looking ( Leki Sherpas maybe?) I’d also already bought a couple of Voile straps as well to bind two together. I have confidence in the tent, can’t wait to try it again and will definitely be back out that way with the views I’d hoped for ( forecast said 80% chance of cloud free summits for this one) probably go up from one of the other ways though now I’ve done Grisedale Pike. Have a good camp this weekend, think I’m sitting this one out. Thanks for watching and the advice 👍🏻
That was a well deserved beer mate. Bad luck with the pole snapping but at least you managed to get it repaired and still get a camp in. Tent looks mint mate colour proper pops. 🤌🏼🤌🏼 atb mate 👍🏼
Cheers pal. Yeah I love the tent. Like that you only need one pole to pitch it but will always take two in future anyway, that was a daft mistake to make 😂 Thanks for watching 👍🏻
Cracking video mate, even if you didnt get what you wanted you still saved it. Ide be reacting exactly them same if that happened to me, the excitement of getting out in a new tent then bang, ruined, but atleast you still got to haha. Very entertaining mate, keep them coming 👌🏼
Cheers pal. Yeah definitely could have been worse, might need to save the new tent for better weather, but would have been absolutely fine I’m sure with better pole 😩 Thanks for watching.
It’s not a loss mate, it’s just the way it goes sometimes you still hiked and camped. People don’t realise how tuff this is in good weather never mined bad weather. Alpkit poles are crap mate had some years ago only lasted a few months before the clamps broke. That’s not a sewage plant its water treatment for the village below, very strange place force crag mine, haven’t been there for about 2 years. Just got back from Keswick actually went to whinnlatter forest yesterday with my lad the weather in the lakes at the moment is utter crap blowing a gale and pouring down we’ve ended up coming home and we was on a campsite near Keswick. Fix ya pole get back out there. 😎 atb Karl
Thanks for the words of encouragement mate. Could have been a lot worse, but positives are it’s a new area for me and I’ll always go back somewhere if something wasn’t quite right, so it’s just extra motivation. I’ve got fizan compacts but had issues with them sticking in the past as they’re twist lock. Gonna invest in some Sherpa Leki’s or similar I think 👍🏻
Tent looks ace man. Love a good MLD. To fix your lanshan inner if your pole isn't at a height of 125 then it will be saggy so I before you hang it off the roof I tie a knot in it and that will pull it taught. Hope that helps 👍
Yeah I can’t wait to get out and try it properly. Was looking forward to sitting out in the vestibule space and chilling out with hopefully some epic views. Not this time unfortunately!
Pleased you managed to salvage a camp!
Hate bailing though it will happen eventually I’m sure!
We almost bump on each other second time that day🤭
I know, what a coincidence!
Rannerdale Knotts looks amazing. Top tent too. Subscribed, as a fellow Fjällräven user!
It’s a really cracking spot. Love my Abisko, of all the tents I’ve had and have, it’s ticking the most boxes for me 👌🏻
@boolay75 yes, I have the Abisko Lite 1- maybe a touch too small but superb construction
Excellent vlog, New subscriber
Nice one cheers mate! And thanks for watching.
A platter? That’s a bit posh for camping mate.. haha. Camped there myself last year but was on t’other side. Cracking video Dave. 👍🏼
Haha, I’ll take a platter every camp from now on! Thanks Rich, been thinking about jacking the RUclips in, but we’ll see. Maybe I’ll just keep them shorter, think that’s the way to go. All the best mate.
@@boolay75 Ya joking, how come man? I enjoy watching your vids you’re putting out some really good stuff. Hope you decide to keep it up mate. 👍🏼
@@Northern_Rockhopper just wonder if it’s worth the effort sometimes mate, though every now and then I’ll watch some of the old ones so they’re still a nice way to document memories for me. I might not film my next trip and see if it makes much difference.
Amazing views dave !
Indeed. Thanks for watching young Gog.
