Hi Robert! I too am an aspiring voiceover artist and I have absolutely loved keeping up your journey so far (I know I'm like 5 months behind as I type this out, but I'm catching up I promise haha). Truth be told, I've been holding off on pulling the trigger to make the necessary moves to kickstart things for me for a little over a year and your series has helped me start 2025 out strong. Similar to you, I have also been seeking out a career change. I've been a graphic designer for almost 10 years now and the job market has not been kind to me since Covid hit. Your videos have given me the initial push I need to really get the ball rolling with this voiceover stuff. As for your question regarding dressing up at these expos/cons, I have been attending cons for 9 years now and I can honestly say there's really only 2 rules when it comes to dressing up/cosplaying. 1) Make sure that YOU are comfortable wearing whatever character you want to dress up as. Don't do something that you're gonna feel weird/self-conscious in. 2) Make sure whatever you dress in meets the expo's/con's dress code. It is honestly as simple as that. Keep up the great work man! The progress you've made is impressive and I wish nothing but the best for you and your family!

Usually it's those who act as “gatekeepers” of the VO industry who tend to bad mouth the P2P sites. The reason for many of them is that they want you to pay outrageous fees for their training; I am not referring to Bill DeWees or any of these likable, positive, and encouraging people, I'm talking about the folks who run the few social media VO “hate” groups, where those who clearly have no work, hang out all day bashing others. “Gatekeepers” is not really my description, but I do agree with it.
That’s an interesting perspective. I feel like the ones that are most against it are the old-school ones. Bill DeWees is an old school guy and very likable but MAN he sure does push his coaching pretty hard. Hahaha. Still, I’ve considered taking his courses. I need to find a coach I enjoy.
As far as I can tell, Fiverr is a science unto itself- So tired of "learning curves", as I am VO talent, not anyone interested in "gimmicks"...
@@BannerSound couldn’t agree more. There’s already enough to succeeding in VO to also have to learn how to beat the algorithm. I’ll be doing another Fiverr update video down the road talking about this and some other frustrating factors.

I appreciate you sharing your journey with us. There are so many people out there, like you and me, trying to figure things out on their own. Your videos make me feel less alone. I started with a $25 Vivitar mic, only to realize its quality was about the same as my cell phone mic 😂. While attending a VoiceMaster diplomado, they recommended the Focusrite Scarlett kit for beginners (mic, interface, headphones). It cost me $310, and it’s doing the job well.

Hi Robert, this is the first video of yours I've seen. It's been 6 months since you recorded it, and I really hope things have been going well in your VO career. I can completely relate to your journey. I've been studying Voice Over since 2021 (taking courses, diplomas, etc.) and working with coaches and practicing all these years. I held myself back from starting until I had my home studio for better audio quality. After 11 months of working on that project, I finally completed my home studio 2 days ago! Now, I'm ready to open my Fiverr profile. Wish me good luck!
@@cristinagrandapty-locutora hi Christina! Thank you for commenting. It’s really smart that you got yourself so prepared before starting. Admittedly, you did so much more than I did. My Fiver journey has not been great at all, honestly. That doesn’t mean your experience will be the same and I do wish you a ton of success on Fiverr. I still have my account but barely get any traction at all. I’m auditioning on Voices dot com now. I’ll still take work if it comes through Fiverr but most of what I’m offered is absolutely terrible pay so I’m very selective with it.
