Thanks for sharing, appreciate the info. One recommendation, the background music is distracting, I recommend dropping it in future videos.
8 minutes in I started to say "nice legs there dude" then realized you had a helper. Lol
No retirees need to have a haircut if they're as short as you--and as obviously balding as you. I retired from the Army with a handsome moptop. I resembled Lennon from the Beatles in '64. I attended transition seminars and briefs and VA disability benefits physicials. No one on post saw me; no one cared. I stopped attending PT formation a few weeks before my terminal leave. Dude, your haircut was for your RUclips channel's content.
My good news: My last day in uniform was Friday, June 23, 2023, at 3:30 p.m. My retirement began on Saturday, July 1,2023, at 12:01 a.m. Bad news: My wife passed on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at 2:33 p.m. I don't shop on post because I don't want to have that How's-retirement-treatin'-ya discussion with anyone who recognizes me.
Im excited to put my 20 years in this is exactly what I needed to see
This video made me super emotional 😢. I just received my retirement orders this week. I’ll have 20yrs and 7 months when it’s all said and done. I joined when I was 18 yrs old and this is all I know…..
I had a tiktok all prepared. and then technical difficulties dumped it. Networks matter, no matter how far away from the service you are.
This would be right now if I had a different outcome in the Army. Enlisted in 2001.
Laugh, cry, stand tall, but we never forget those we left behind still serving. Was great to serve in the U.S. Army from 74/94 and so many memories. Thanks for your service Sir!
Well, I wish I saw this BEFORE it happened to us! Same thing my wife was inside watching waiting, then flood! Ours the toilet flush valve was broken and the water came out if the bowl. Then was draining out of the bottom of the camper for an hour. Today I am going to drop the belly to see if I need to replace the insulation. Great video!
This made me cry.....so many memories! I miss the U.S. Army...😞
I'm interested in finding out if you stayed with your host company and if so, how did you overcome the hurdle.
Hello! Thanks for watching. First, that was filmed in 2021 - so its been a while. I did get an actual role, just keep watching the video series. I was hired on as a contractor. Then late that year, I was hired on as a full-time employee in another office. But then in late 2022, I left the company for another role in another organization. It took several discussions with mentors and also using a great service called American Corporate Partners Mentoring Program. Lots of reflection and just sticking to it.
Great info, thanks for sharing your journey!!!
Thank you for your service 🙏💥
Did you use two brass check valves for the hot and cold outlets? Please let me know when you can. I’m currently dealing with a leak situation rn
I sure did
This video really resonated with me as I’m finishing the second week of my fully-remote fellowship, and experiencing many of the same doubts and frustrations… Thanks for sharing your journey!
Is that fellowship a paid internship? Thank you
My last day in the Navy after 23 yrs and 8 months is today 12/31/23 … feeling the weight of it all and was searching RUclips about “last day in military” Found this video - Thanks for sharing and putting into words how I am feeling right now!
Great video sir. What are you doing now?
What cert did you go for? About to start the program later this month and it's still confusing as to what each do. Would be great if I could connect on LinkedIn for moore info if youre up to it?
first time watch this video. so much agreement with you. I was an enlisted sailor and served to the best of my ability. a job is just a job, but for military life, it is a life-time commitment.
E7 USAF, Retired: 24 years in the USAF 1973~1997. Numerous assignments with USAF and the Army in CONUS and out: Germany, Norway, Korea, Guam, and past Guam to a few others with signed nondisclosures, taught here and taught there and loved every minute. Deployed with the Army and USAF more than desired! And, in the end . . . I’d do it all over again without hesitation! I was designated a Security Police and pulled more TDYs than there letters in the alphabet. Times have changed! Vaya Con Dios!
I envy you. You took the leap of faith and followed your dream, no fear, no regrets unlike so many of us stuck in dead end civilian jobs.
I don't feel anything for you, because you were an LTC and it looks like you worked at a Military School, you didn't exactly suffer, that being said hey, you knew full well that the journey had to end sometime!
Good luck man. 👍all the best from Canada
Yep I remember , 23 years 11 months, I felt good because I already had a job lined up so my pay stayed steady!
I feel your pain brother. Some folks have difficulty letting go of their military identity. Yours truly included. Spent 20 years in the military. Retired as a MSgt/E7 in Sept 2012. Having held a leadership role I find it difficult to say the least to start from scratch as Mr or Ms Smith. Most companies say the support military but can feel intimidated by veterans for one reason or another. You'll get that "thank you for your service" lip service but the behavior is anything but on their end. Maybe I'm just a cynic. But most corporations tend to be more concerned with the bottom line than the welfare/well being of the people that are keeping that corporation/company going. You make one mistake and it could be the last. They can fire you on the spot and not have to give a reason for doing so. Most jobs are at will employment. Yet you are expected to give these people 2 weeks notice. Its a joke in my opinion. As an employee you become just another number rather than a human being. Enough of my rant. I wish you/family luck brother. Take care and God bless.
Great video Eric! I am ex-army combat engineer, bout to get into HOH Career forward in Data Analytics! thanks for all the information
Ft Hood was my first duty assignment. I was assigned to Ft Hood Texas from 92 -94 with the 555th Engineer Co. Topographic. III Corps Phantom Command. I worked as a light wheel vehicle mechanic, 63B. Our motorpool was right next to a corrections stockade. We used to see these guys playing basketball in their brown jail jumpsuits. 😮
I recall driving from Ft Riley KS to Tampa Florida. Nice little trip. Made a few detours along the way. Stopped at Ft Campbell KY , Ft Leonard Wood MO. Nostalgia hit me hard. 😢😁
6:58 Nice. Hearing church bells beats hearing gun fire any day. 😉😁
Having been underemployed and working mostly minimum wage part-time job the past six years since graduating with my master's degree, I am now in the Career Forward program focusing on data analytics. I am hoping that this will be the gateway to putting minimum wage work behind me and work a job I can actually find satisfaction in.
Hi! I am also in Data Analytics and start in September. Good luck to us!
My water heater was fine until today. No water hooked up. I didn't drain the tank. I jacked up the front to get onto my gooseneck. Then noticed a drip about two feet down between the frame and the outside wall. Not a drop of water in the basement. Any information would be great!!
Thank you for sharing. I’m retiring after 21 years and a bit nervous of what’s next. Looking forward to applying for Hiring Our Heroes program.
Just found this searching for retiring from the Army. I wish that I had found this earlier. I am retiring in a few years and would love more advice. Great videos and fantastic advice! Thank you for sharing!
I am Protecting South Africa from United States Military like Iraq 2008
Not Active anymore but went National Guard after 5 years Active.....currently in OCS and hoping to stay in as long as possible
I wish him the very best regards and compliments for a whole life of commitment, even though it's been a year ago! lol Indeed, we spend a lifetime in the army thinking of someday getting retired as part of a natural process - but when it really comes true, no one is prepared for it. I'm about to complete 8 years of service and still got 27 more to go! (yeah, in Brazil our military career is max. 35 years long, both NCO's and CO's, with some abbreviations of time if you spend some years serving in the deep Amazon region or frontier locations). I see how empty some guys feel when getting retired. My dad still reunites with his basic training buddies in some annual barbecues. It's a lifestyle, and we were born for this...
HOOAH!!!
I retired after 21 years in the Army, it was bittersweet for me. I had a little difficulty transitioning to the civilian world, but overall, I did alright. Congratulations and thank you so your service, sir!
You’re being so dramatic. I retired and lived life as if I was never in…no veterans hats, no final posts, no farewell videos. Just a new life.
I bet he's digging in his pockets because he's trying to find a fuck to give for your comment.
Right? This dude is acting like a damn drama queen
Hello, I'm doing my pre-screening interview for the spouse fellowship program next week and getting nervous about what questions they are going to ask. I know this is a separate fellowship, but do you remember some of the things they touched in that initial inter? Just trying to ease my nerves. Thank you!
Hi Sommer- the questions were less like a formal interview, and mostly just to make sure you were aware of what this was going to be. It was also more of just getting to know you and what you expected out of the fellowship and what your journey looked like. I remember it was very, very low threat and very easy going.
@@ericharrelson8240 Okay, great! Thank you so much for the response.
How are things going?! It’s been a while.
Yes sir - been a while. I've gotten very busy with normal life, job, living the America dream now. Everyone tells me they'd like to see more vids. Thinking about it.
I have the exact same problem. Great job showing on how to replace the hot water heater and knowing ahead of time that I need to get the material for rebuilding the stand.
Thanks for watching and thanks for your comment!

You all ways made Great videos hope you do more soon. Are you going to do any more videos?
Hi Joey, Great question! It's been quite a while. I've been busy in my new life, but have felt like I needed an update.
Thank you for your service and for sharing your experience with the CFP. I am going through it myself and your video really helps me a lot going forward…so Thank you 😊
And no more babysitting millenials or dealing with the rainbow agenda into the what's supposed to be an apolitical institution.
Wow! What an emotional story. Would love to see if you (Eric) would like to come sit down with me and tell me what your life is like a year later now that you have been able to hopefully get settled into your new life. Feel free to reach out to me here or go to the channel and find the contact info on the website. All the best! Congrats on making it over the finish line!
I was medically retired 6 months ago as an E-5 after almost 6 years of service due to Type 1 diabetes and at first I didn’t mind but a couple of months ago it all started to hit me. Really hate that I was forced to get out and I really miss the people. I make more money now but I’ll never get the opportunity to make SGM, lead more soldiers, influence young soldiers or retire. Being forced to move on vs choosing or it just being time for some people makes a huge difference. Glad you got to serve for so many years though, congratulations on your well earned retirement
Medically retired is not what he was talking about and is not the same thing, are you walking around telling people you're retired army?........stop.
