Mathew 18 19 disproves Christianity. Jesus said if 2 Christians ask for something the father WILL do it. That's simply not true. How many times have entire church congregations prayed for God to heal cancer in a loved one and he didn't heal them? I've seen this first hand. So that makes Jesus a liar. Lying is a sin right? So the whole sacrifice of the innocent for the atonement of sin would not work since Jesus was a liar

LOL We can never really be certain if there is a creator or not. We may live inside a computer simulation, we may be the daydream of a fully conscious universe, we may be a "hologram" from images that are formed somewhere else... etc. We just can't know. But... what I know for certain, is that I hope, I absolutely hope that the Christian god, as well as every other god we've managed to dream up throughout history isn't the "real" god. Because if he's real, then he's a monster. The Christian god is not a god of love, or justice, or any of that nonsense. The Christian god is a narcissistic monster, a liar, and outright evil. Imagine creating untold numbers of sentient beings, knowing that over 90% of them are doomed to eternity in Hell, even before you've created them, but you do it anyway, just so the few remaining ones are available to you in "heaven" to spend all of eternity worshiping you, singing your praises, and falling at your feet... forever and ever and ever... It's unconscionable. So again, I can't say he doesn't exist. No one can prove it either way. I just say I hope he doesn't exist. Oblivion would be better than him.

How very strange. I wrote a full and thoughtful reply to Peter Hitchens but the moderator took it down....or perhaps AI has interveined on behalf of religion. My language was not profane. I did not insult anyone. I merely likened all religions to cults and suggested they should be regarded as such. I suggested that nobody, other than a communist, would regard life without communism as a pointless existence. I am not a wishy-washy atheist. I am an antitheist. I was baptised into the Church of England. In my 76 years on the planet the church has not been of any significance to me. I have a perfectly formed moral compass and don't require any cult leader telling me how to behave or what to think. I believe that spirituality is inate in all people. I believe that this spirituality has been hijacked by governments to control the people. Religions are all about power. I believe strongly, that religions are the antithesis of spirituality. I finished by pointing out that every major cult has been responsible for the deaths of millions, all in the name of their cults. Peter never mentions the millions who have died in the name of his beliefs. It's not easy to be witty about such a thing.

If mankind seeks for justice, then there must be some sort of accountability surely? But if, as atheists maintain, there is nothing after death, then to whom are we accountable? And...for what? Thus, Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin, Mengele et al have had their way with people on earth and have got away with their evil...but fear nothing?! Where's justice in all that, I wonder? Seems like being dead comes as a bonus because, well...there's nothing! However, if, as many believe, God exists, then comes a visit to the Judgement Seat of Christ...and , yep...a reckoning! One sure fact abounds and that is: We are all going to die...and then we'll know the truth! Bit late though!

To answer Hitchen's question as an atheist: I do want there to be a God. My earlier life as a christian was a very happy one, and I have no doubt that if I remained a christian I would have been very happy still. A life based on a model that grants you meaning, purpose, values, and mostly, certainty. Unfortunately, truth and intellectual honesty is more important to me, so that model couldn't stay afloat. To ask the question back to Hitchens, but with a twist: Why do you so much want there to not be uncertainty?

Some say the most terrifying verse in the bible is Jesus Christ saying " Depart from me I never knew you " ( When Jesus speaks of the rich man who ended up in hell and wanted someone to go back and warn his 5 brothers so they wouldn't end up in hell also, Abraham said they have Moses and the prophets to listen too, even if someone rises from the dead and goes back they still wouldn't believe. 😮
