Welcome, this is the testimony of Justin Brooks. This is the 41st atheism to Christianity testimony in this series! Approaching 3,000,000+ views.
Original source is medium.com and linked in the description. I don't agree with all of his comparisons of other religions in comparison to the true faith in Christ.
The true difference with Christianity is that we recognize our fallen (sinful nature) , recognize the one true Holy God became flesh, dwelt among us, died on a cross in accordance with scripture, resurrected from the dead, appeared to many.
By his wounds we are healed.
Anyway, I don't have to agree with all of someone's views to rejoice in another soul calling Jesus Lord.

      You're right.
Modern judaism is rabbinic judaism that hails from pharisaism. John 8 conversation of Jesus with them and most impotantly Marc 7 and Matthew 23 tells us explicitely that they teach their traditions (Talmud) and usurp Moses chair (The pristhood was always the Levites)
We were warned against their teaching (leaven). This warning, christianity hasn't pay attention. And today the christian happily lump the people and the faith into names, which if you were to adress Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Samuel and David by them they wouldn't answer. Because they're foreign to them. Jew and judaism are confusing terms.
All Hebrews are not israélites. Abraham and all his sons are Hebrew. That makes Isaac Hebrew as well as his son Jacob.
Then Jacob's name became Israël. That doesn't make Isaac and Abraham israélites.
He got 12 sons who later became the 12 tribes under the name Israël/Jacob. All this time they're not jews.
Because we're made to understand that jew IS short for Judah. If that's the case (hardly, but that's another topic) then jew shoul apply to this tribe exclusively. We've to remember that Judah IS Judah, Siméon and 1/2 Benjamin, and the Levites.
James 1 -1 greets the tribes by their respective parricularity : the Lost tribes of Ephraim (or Israël for the northern kingdom) and the dispersed of Judah (southern kingdom)
He could have said to all the jews, but didn't. And also the translators could'nt mess with this very precise identification of the tribes, like they did elsewhere in the new testament.
Their status hasn't changed since then, they're still to be regathered by Jesus at His second coming, from the corners of the earth. That's scriptures, and no Propaganda can change prophecy, ever.

Christianity is not Gentile at all, you're thinking of Catholicism.
Do you know which portion of the Tanakh is always skipping in Rabbinic synagogues? Isaiah 53.
Rabbinic Jidaism rejects the prophesied and promised Messiah, and denies the Son of God (psalm2) who is the Son of Man (Daniel 7) and so is antichrist, full stop. They would be like the Hebrews who didn't put the blood of the Lamb on their doorways in the Exodus. If you don't follow YHVH, your Judaism is false, and exists genetically only. Like pigs seem kosher on the outside but inwardly do not chew the cud (meditate upon and digest the Word) and so are unclean.

After many years of secular humanism, I went on a similar journey. I simply wanted to be a good person, but I wanted to be certain of what “good” means. My upbringing was strongly anti-Christian, so I started looking into anything else, including Jainism, Mormonism, and Scientology, as well as all the bases covered here. In the end, like you, I was surprised to find that many of my preconceived notions of Christianity had been distorted and that Christianity was indeed the one true religion established by God himself. However, I still needed to reconcile all the denominational divisions that currently exist within it: If Jesus established only one Church, why do different congregations contradict each other? When I finally squared that circle, I was dumbfounded. Out of ignorance, we are all material heretics to some degree, but there is only one true source of light. Keep searching with an open mind, my friend, and perhaps one day you will find it.

@@palyddon I believe the complexity of the different denominations comes down to the fact that Christians can become hung up on certain parts of the Bible- Calvinism, fruits of the spirit, etc. It’s a result of the hardness of our hearts to want to get stuck on these ideologies. When really, He calls us to go and make disciples. There are many things we won’t know for sure, and that’s okay. It doesn’t mean that God isn’t good!!! He definitely is. I do not claim, science has all the answers. It could even be impossible (See Gödel's incompleteness theorem). There are many questions that (currently) cannot be answered scientifically: "What triggered the big bang?", or "Was the universe created deliberately to have humans in it?" or "Are there other universes, possibly with other laws of nature?". Those questions can only be answered by religion or debated philosophically. If you like to answer them with religion and it makes you happy, then choose one that fits your instincts (One that resonates with you). I myself will stick to my favorite moto: "I'd rather have questions that cannot be answered, than answers that cannot be questioned"

Going to say this, If you understand the Matthew 7:22 passage to not be referring to people who believe in what Jesus did for them rather than what they do. You should also realize after reading that passage that Religion as a secular word in discernment, is essentially a weapon of Satan.
This shouldn't shock or scare you. The Father has but one request from you, and thats simply to believe that because Jesus shed his blood, being god incarnate in the form of man, that God has forgiven you, and by this with his death, burial and resurrection, means that the matter is settled and he will not impute sin to you, because this isn't a temporal phenomena, God's grace extends to eternity. Which is why he says in repetition all throughout the book several times, that no one is going to take you away from him, and that he wont cast you out once you believe.
All simply because you are trusting in what HE did, not what YOU do. This is the passive belief of the Gospel, and in contrasts all religion, because religion by a bare minimum of contrasting difference requires you presuppose that you have to work by a set of laws to get to heaven, (yes, this is where things get weird and believers can actually agree with a skeptical athiest in saying "all religions are the same." because by functionality the Gospel isn't a religion, it implies that the set of perfect laws needed to follow to get into heaven is impossible, and would simply rather you rely on what God himself did for your benefit.
The Gospel is the only written according document of faith, in which it relies on something God has already done, and backs it up with anthropological accounts with nearly 15,000 citations.
You can't love God perfectly and love your neighbor perfectly in this state that you are in. Which is why God came down and gave himself over to religious men so that you'd know the enemy. He also did so, so that he could protect you from yourself. Being the standard of perfection, theres not a single accusation against you that has merit, given you have not only pleaded guilty, but been exonerated by God because you've accepted what would've been required to forgive you permanently.
The Gospel is simple, due to the passage of time men have had to combat and explain that because so much time has passed, the enemy has infiltrated the church, and leaves subtle changes to salvational doctrine that will doom you if you're not careful. Worldly institutions and leaders are not to be trusted. May God give you the spirit of discernment when you believe, so that you may come to understand the snakes method of attack, a repetitious implicative lie. (That simply, what Jesus did alone, was not enough.)
Jesus is the son of God, shed his blood for the remission and forgiveness of sins on the cross, died, was buried and rose again on the third day
"and any who believe in me, even if they die, they shall live" -
"for the righteous shall live by faith." -
"and if it be of grace, it be only grace, lest it not be grace." -
"for it is by grace through faith you are saved, not of works, it is of GOD not of MAN, lest you be able to boast." -
"To he who doesn't work, but merely * BELIEVES * on him who justifies the ungodly, his FAITH is counted for * RIGHTEOUSESS * "
And to any who wish to misquote James 2. James is talking to believers, they are saved by their faith, James is merely talking about making disciples of men by bringing them to the Gospel by showing works. Paul even says that Abraham would have righteousness but not before God. *YOU* (humans) see with your eyes how abrahams faith was made perfect by his works. But in 1 Samuel 16:7 it says that God looks inwardly while man looks outwards.
Begone works salvationists (literally people of religion) . God is not a task master. He literally died to protect you from yourself, the reward and talent he gives you is the gospel. All you had to do was simply believe it.

Really great effort. I'd just like to highlight some points :
    1. Buddhism and Taoism : what you've described is pure or classical beliefs in these 2 religions.
    2. In reality in Asia, Buddhism and Taoism have become syncretistic... Especially in believing in and worshiping deities.
    3. Things get more confused when you throw the Chinese Heavenly King (forgot the term) into the mix. He's a kind of Zeus or Odin for Chinese deities (not in specific powers attributed to him, but just his position in the pantheon). Kuan Yin appeals to both Buddhists and Taoists.
Classical religions of all kinds are great. But to see for real, need to see real worshippers. Also most Islam outside of the Middle East is folk Islam.
Great to hear that God has spoken to you though.

Tao is best pronounced Dow. Taoism correlates well with neuroscience: the verbal brain circuits ( mainly dominant hemisphere) create a narrative about "what really exists" and generates categories in which to hold dissected pieces of reality and then cling to the belief that this system IS reality. But, no! The Greater Realty exists outside whatever the verbal mind thinks it is.
"The way which can be spoken of (put into words) is not the Eternal Way."

This path echoes my own, and with similar conclusions. The one disagreement I have with the statements made here have to do with science. The statements made show a bit of misunderstanding of how science works (while also suffering from lack of clarity: science, scientific theories, and scientists are all conflated, referring to all of these with the word "science"). So let's fix this. Scientists, based on observations, come up with theories to explain the observations. At the moment a theory is conceived, it fits all pertinent observations, past and current (if it didn't, the theory would be rejected immediately) and--this is important--PURPORTS TO EXPLAIN FUTURE OBSERVATIONS. Thus, a theory sticks around, unchanged, until someone makes an observation that the theory can't explain. At that point the theory is either revised in some way or discarded completely. That is the process we call 'science'. Indeed, it is something we each do naturally, every day. I still agree with the conclusion that science is not the answer, but not because of any flaw in science. It just isn't applicable to spiritual questions.

9:20 let me add on with this argument a bit as a physics major myself. Science isn’t all about the truth, but rather it depends on our understanding of the world. Science is all about experimentation and deducing appropriate conclusions based on the conducted experiments. Before the 20th century, physicists believed that everything is deterministic since that was their world view at the time. For example, throwing a ball with a certain force and elevation, with knowing every parameters regarding the ball’s trajectory you can predict how far or how high it will go, simply because that was their world view from the experiments they conducted (I believe Galileo was the leading figure with the experimentation side). But during the 20th century when technology got more advanced, and people starts to observe some other phenomenon they never seen before, that’s where new theories emerges and how science evolves such as quantum mechanics (Max Planck was trying to invent a more energy efficient light bulb, and discovered that light energy comes in discretely which is known as photons, which lead to the beginning of quantum mechanics). What I’m trying to say is that the reason why science can be wrong is due to our limitation of world view but it’s a constantly evolving knowledge, kind of like how we as humans will never know everything yet some of us still are eager to learn and improve ourselves

  • @aerialpunk

That's excellent, welcome to the fold!
Also, I have to say, one reason Christianity stands out to me as being true that wasn't mentioned here is that it gives an extremely realistic view of humanity and the world around us. So many other faiths say that if we live enough lives, do more good than bad, etc that we can eventually earn our way into eternal paradise and perfection - by finally becoming good enough in some manner, on our own steam. But I see no evidence that that's how things should work. In contrast, the Bible is like "all of you have screwed up, no amount of good deeds will cover the justice deserved for the bad ones, you can never work your way out of this mess because you're flawed, and the only way out of punishment is to humble yourself and accept God's grace and forgiveness". It's the only faith that teaches this, and is the only realistic view of humanity imo.

Since everyone largely believes the same thing, but they simply express and verbalize it differently in language the bickering between philosophies is nothing more than negotiation of linguistic practices.

Different schools of Buddhism definitely have beliefs in gods and saints and hell and such. But Buddhism is highly syncretic with Hinduism and other Eastern religions. I don't know if there exists a kind of "pure" Buddhism that boils down just to the common core of Buddhist teaching.
I don't think the Buddhist philosophy is compatible with Christianity. Its emphasis on spiritual liberation by means of renunciation of desire, ultimately in pursuit of "enlightenment" is very reminiscent of Gnosticism. Christianity has a special and unique place among the world's religions - it cherishes both body and spirit as God-given. The resurrection is bodily, not just being a spirit in heaven. And the body is not a bad thing, nor are its desires. Asceticism is optional in most Christian denominations, usually only clergy or monks practice this kind of self-denial. And even the motivation behind Asceticism in Christianity is usually different than simply punishing or neglecting the body for the spirit's sake. Rather, it is a way of practicing worship bodily, it is a way of recruiting one's whole self into worship. Or in the case of celibate priests, it's a kind of mystical marriage, or simply a way to devote oneself entirely to God.

We all are NOT decendants of Abraham. We are ALL DECENDANTS OF NOAH. The table of Nations begins with Noah's three sons, Ham, Shem, and Japhet.
Gentiles (non-Israelite) are ONLY considered children of Abrahan WHEN they accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior by faith. Because of our faith in Christ, we are grafted in as children of Abraham and heirs to the same promises that God made to him. It's a spiritual decent NOT a biological decent.....and it's exclusive to believers in Christ.
With that said, decendants of Jacob (Isreal) and Esau (Edom) and Ishmael (Hagar's son), and Keturah (2nd wife) 8 sons we have MANY biological decendants of Abraham. But NOT HEIRS to the promises that God made to him. To receive the SAME promises as Abraham.... one MUST belive in Jesus Christ, no matter your literal ancestry. This means that literal decendants of Abraham will be treated as if they were never ancestors of Abraham.
This is why BELIEF IN CHRIST is so very essential. Even Isrealites are EXCLUDED UNLESS they believe. But we know they will believe because the Bible prophesies that they will😊. That's why Christians pray for them. Their eyes will be opened one day and the nation will accept Christ as their Messiah. Right now there is a partial hardening on the nation that will one day be removed.

“When Jesus had entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, ‘Who is this?’ The crowds replied, ‘This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.’” Matthew 21:10-11
“They looked for a way to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowd because the people held that he was a prophet.” NIV Matthew 21:46
Jesus said “Truly I tell you,” he continued, “no prophet is accepted in his hometown.” Luke 4:24
The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus. Acts 3:13
“One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.” Luke 6:12
“And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, ‘My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.’” Matthew 26:39
“They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Sit here while I pray.’” Mark 14:32
Jesus was speaking in Aramaic and was a Muslim (a person that totally submitted to Allah) and he prayed to Allah. Go to any Aramaic Online Dictionary and type the word “God”. You will be shocked to see it’s “Allah”. Jesus NEVER said anywhere in the Bible “I am God” or “Worship me.

Jesus never said anywhere that He wasn’t God. Did he?
I know this rhetoric game. Because Jesus never used the exact phrase “I am God” , but rather … told someone their sins were forgiven(which only God can do), stated “Before Abraham was, I am” which led to the Jewish scholars picking up stones to stone him ( because it was obvious he was claiming divinity in that statement)
But alas, I know this is a semantic game. Only the exact phrase will do. Where is the exact quote where Jesus says “I am not God”

@@herneyse11 First, don't be convinced that something which Moses did not mention is not worth mentioning at a moment in the future.
Second, let me answer your question.
Moses did mention the Christ. You can see in Deuteronomy 18 the description of Him. You can read in chapter one of the good news according to John that the apostle Philip explicitly mentions Moses describing Him as well as Him being mentioned in the writings of the prophets. The apostle Peter also makes this claim in chapter three of the book of the acts of the apostles, and one of the first appointees of the apostles, Stephen, also made that claim in chapter seven of the same book.

    I have a question.
If you came to the conclusion that "Hinduism" was the same thing as Christianity expressed in a different way, how did you come to the conclusion that Christianity is "the one true religion". Considering the necessity of believing fantastic miracles in Christianity vs. something that's, as you say, expressing the same thing without such exclusive doctrine. It seems logical that it would be the contrary, or at least a perennialism.

@@AspiringChristian I hadn't, but it doesn't entirely answer my question.
Let me ask this way: what necessitates Jesus if another religion expresses the same thing?
I ask because I'm exploring the same things, however, I've come to the opposite conclusion. Coming to the views of Advaita Vedanta. Disagreements about historical evidence aside, I can't reconcile the bodily resurrection or substitutionary atonement with my understanding of God. They're seemingly incoherent unless taken entirely symbolically.
      Theism: God as transcendent
Panentheism: God as both transcendent and immanent
      Pantheism: God as immanent
Theism and Pantheism in my view are incoherent because they bind God to time. Theism creates a dualism between material reality and God, putting God in relation to something else. Pantheism similarly puts God inside time as the physical universe (and I would argue that none of the supposed pantheistic systems are actually pantheistic, but panentheistic).
That leaves Panentheism, where God is both outside experience as beyond time, and within experience. I think this is Biblical. Now, if what's experience of God is the Word (Logos) as part of the natural order, what exactly does Jesus death accomplish? If there was no access to the Word prior, then I think that contradicts the function of reality.
This Logos is clearly expressed in Doaism as the Dao, and Hinduism as Vishnu, so it seems clear to me that it's experienced without Jesus.

@@Jeff_To If Hinduism and Christianity express the same thing, one could argue that the primary difference would be the efficacy of one over the other. (I don't particularly hold this, but I think I may be able to argue it.) The instructions given by Hinduism and the instructions given by Christianity to repair the brokenness of humanity that both express, which set of instructions functions in the intended way, meaning the way that restores the fullness of humanity?

@461weavile I can't confindemtly say I think one is more effective than the other. I would (and do) read and take practices from both.
Hypothetically, if I thought Christianity was more effective, I still wouldn't be a Christian, though, because I don't believe in a bodily resurrection or substitutionary atonement.
I'd like to stay away from using the term "Hinduism". It's more of a broad philosophy, not unlike perennialism. My specific understanding is non-dualism, which happens to align with Advaita Vedanta. Though I think the same conclusion can be made from Chrsitian theology.

In 1910 Ivan Panin, a Russian/ American Harvard math genius and linguistic expert, proved the Bible mathematically. Watch - Math proves the Bible. Most recently a 30 year veteran cold case criminologist J. Warner Wallace proved the Bible forensically in his book, Person of Interest. His testimony would convince any jury of the veracity of the Bible. Some of the amazing things in the Bible include the prophecy of the fall of Tyre and the prophecy of Alexander the great. Bible firsts include knowing life being in the blood long before modern science, or the Bible knowing about mountains and currents in the oceans or how the earth hangs on nothing. You should know about the prophecies fulfilled by Jesus and the impossible odds of that happening. The Bible is a reliable collection of historical documents written down by eye witnesses during the lifetime of other eye witnesses. They report to us supernatural events that took place in fulfillment of specific prophecies and claim that the writings are divine rather than human in origin. The Bible has also been proven archaeologically, historically and linguistically.
2 Peter 1:16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

If we define God as a necessary being, and all humans are contingent in that they depend upon the existence of something else in order to exist (humans must eat, for example), then it logically follows that God can not be man. And therefore Christianity must be false as it proclaims the false doctrine that a contingent being is the same as a necessary being. That is a contradiction.
