Watched Persona for the first time today and of course I've now had to watch multiple analysis/review videos, and in my opinion yours is by far the best!

I thought the movie ended 3x. I enjoyed the ending.

I thought chalmers went out of his way to make Frank welcome at the beginning, until Ross /Renick got shot

Steve & Bill didn't need special effects, not like the far less charismatic one dimensional actors of later generations who have to show of to make themselves look hard, Steve Lee, & Charlie had that mean look & didn't need to show of or special effects

I've seen this movie, in cinema when i was 4. Can you immagine the effect of this film, in the eyes of a child, very suggestionable, like me. The gratest movie of all time. I've seen it when I was 4 years old, in the cinema, with my parents. I'm so goddam lucky, you bet it😂

This has been the closest review of any I’ve read or seen to something that truly touches each piece of this film. All the other reviews seem to make sense, until you watch the film again and realize their analysis only fits half the film - like assembling a puzzle and fitting together a cohesive picture, but ignoring you left out 50% of the pieces. Where as you rather use all the pieces and realize there are still holes, as in that must be part of the original design. Good work, A+. Such a good movie, too.

It was a weird movie but very interesting

Maybe the audition dance scene in Flashdance? Nervously putting the needle onto the vinyl? And the camera work in the dance? Also I remember the camera work and editing of the ice skating scene gave me goosebumps at the time. I don't know, maybe I'm out of my league suggesting these things, just my input.

That's a bit biased it seems ur in favor on the AMERICAN version merely cuz it is the American version! Argento didn't fail to incorporate the political issues of the time; it wasn't about that. The story was clear cut and simple exploring witchcraft in an institution that was modern and reputed, one would not think nor expect it from such a place and situation. That being said after various attempts, finally got around to watching the 2018 version and it was good!

Granger plays the role as confused, just as he did in Rope, and is excellent at being the second fiddle, dragged along and unable to know nor assert his true self. Although I enjoyed his performance, I think Hitch left the door open for the definitive version of this movie to be made. We may yet have a pending classic on our hands, if it can fall into deft hands that go back to Highsmith's source material, and draws out the deeper moral ambiguity in a new adaptation.

This could have been on of Hitchcock's greats, a very strong first half. Everything languishes hard though w/ the dry tennis match and into the finale. I also thought there was a lost opportunity to make Granger's character even more ambiguous, such as the possibility of a wry smile at the end. As in fact, he is the beneficiary of Walker's warped sensibilities, in that he took care of his ex- for him. Similar to Bates in Psycho, Bruno is an immature villain and feels victimized by family dysfunction.

I do wish they gave a bit more detail on Chalmers. He's never called a senator, nor given a title. It would explain more why he bosses so many people around. Just because your rich you can't walk into a hospital, and see medical charts, or get the police to do what you want. The cryptic "He's grooming himself for public office" doesn't help much either. Is he a D.A.? If they gave him a title it would make more sense.

Baader-Meinhof weren't all that radical if you know what they came from and fought against; ther followers were like a lot of Western Marxists, overwhelmingly clueless about Marxism. All resistance to capitalism appears fanatical the moment it appears to have any ability to change the status quo of genocide & slavery. The bourgeoisie get you to virtue signal wanting change for the better while keeping you terrified of an upset to this status quo. Those with little enough more to lose than their chains to overthrowing the bourgeoisie are presented to you as something you must be protected from and fear becoming should you stop running the hamster wheel that feeds our lives to the rich.

You pointed-out some very disturbing characteristics of George E. Most people aren't going to see them because Clift's performance is so sympathetic. Yeah ... when he took her out onto the lake, it was part of his plan to kill her. He changed his mind because he wasn't a cold-blooded killer. It was too late, Winters had to stand in the boat to teach us all a lesson. The director is playing with our emotions and morals. Clift is so easy-going and lyrical we want to see him found not guilty so he can be free to be w/Angela. To hell with what's-her-name. George would have been miserable for the rest of his life if he had been stuck with Alice Tripp. Clift was magnificently humanized ... but after the romantic Hollywood blah, blah, blah ... he took her out on that boat with the purpose of killing her ... he changed his mind and realized he was too decent to murder ... Life didn't let him off the hook because he changed his mind. That is more cruel than planning the murder ... taking her out on the boat. Clift's statement about not being sure if he is guilty of "any of it" ... His confusion is his last grain of self-respect. His last self-delusion. His mother is there. He has to give her something of her "little georgie". She is far-too religious to be fooled. He is too intelligent not to know he is responsible :: "Man! !" "If I hadn't taken her out on the boat". "She would be alive". "I wouldn't be going to the gas chamber". The stoicism of Clift's last walk of shame ... he knew he fucked up ! _( Alice was having his baby ! )_

Who played Bruno? The actors name. Wasn't he the guy George C Scott hit in Patton?

You shouldn't give away the endings of other Movies (for example The VVitch), without Spoiler-Warning. I have seen it, but other people might have not...

Consider this; She was the monster they feared. She cursed the entire village to death by plague to get revenge for what two of them did.

I loved this movie. It felt like the only "realistic" revenge flick id ever seen. Like, if one of us decided to do something similar, it would (at best) end up like this.

This is in my 10 most favourite movies of all time. (I would also put Fargo into that top 10 list).

The response about God creating man was not about abandonment but about humans not loving God back. In the same way, Hobby is saying that why can’t they create AI and humans will have the free will to love them or not.

I believe he never would have killer Shelly Winters- and he loved Elizabeth beyond belief. My husband said you can’t arrest someone for wanting someone dead- he’d have to have thrown her off the boat and drowned her - he was sad lonely confused and I don’t believe he should have been arrested- everything legally was circumsntial evidence- in court Raymond Burr loses it screaming- not allowed and says he broke an oar on her head- this is not how the legal system works-the judge would have reprimanded his outburst- it’s a movie NOT real life- I’ve watched it three times and my heart went out to all the victims -

I really like this. Violence very often seems like a complementary thing where both genders initiate violence within their own possible capabilities. Especially in close relationships there seems to be some underlying partly sexual primitive instinct of control

As a native German speaker the film is almost unwatchable. The bad German of most of the cast breaks any immersion. Especially Tilda Swinton as Klemperer is just laughable. Of course that isn't a problem for most viewers since they are likely to not speak German. For me it turned this into a pretty looking student movie.
