I liked the movie a lot, especially the atmosphere conveyed through the dark and mystical visuals in combination with the droning score... You did a great job with this videos giving these ideas about the plot and background, well done!
The way you describe Hagazussa gives the impression that religion/religious differences are only incidental in the creation of a witch. It suggests that in some sense it is separation, more than any other particular difference, that is at the heart of the matter. Congrats on 50 videos, that's quite a milestone!!!
I don't mean to suggest that religious difference is not crucial - it is after all the primary basis for their prejudice. Her identity as a heathen also informs her approach in exacting revenge - she wouldn't use witchery against them if she didn't believe in it. My point is more that her persecution is what motivates her descent into becoming what they accuse her of being in the first place. It's almost a matter of saying, "If I'm to be considered a monster, I may as well be one." Moreover, in this film, it seems to suggest she may actually accept their premise that her mother, and by extension she, was evil.
haha. I recall reading once that witches were thought to be made of wood (hence the floating?). There was a famous case of a small bridge that legend has it was built from the body of a slain witch. But on the whole, I'm not well informed on the subject.
Yes, exactly. She becomes an evil witch by the movie's end. The question is whether this was inevitable, The film seems to suggest she was pushed into this and transformed into evil as opposed to revealed as evil by nature. As I mentioned, I see this as a common thread in a lot of modern witch-stories.
@@ShootMeMovieReviews She always had a choice. Everyone does. But once her mother abused her, the stage was set and the doors were open. If the father of her child is not human and she accepted it (when that Swina chick's fat friend r'd her, she reacted as if it had never happened before, contradicting the potential for it to be a human, heathen or otherwise) then she made that choice by act 2.
You shouldn't give away the endings of other Movies (for example The VVitch), without Spoiler-Warning. I have seen it, but other people might have not...

This was so well reviewed. Lyrically articulated.
Great review

Great insight on this film... thank you
Great video!! I love this movie
"Witches don't drown; something to do with being made of wood."
Who are you, who are so wise in the ways of science?

Consider this; She was the monster they feared. She cursed the entire village to death by plague to get revenge for what two of them did.
