Water Reanimator is a weird deck- I do think a major factor why it works is the amount of healing water has access to, which affords you a good amount of time to just expend to draw and pass, without actually trying to take control of the board, so you can draw into all the pieces you need to make use of your ascensions- meanwhile you also have a lot of other amazing tools like eddy, foamee, galaxea and even sluggle can sometimes trade into bodies and prevent your opponent from getting too ahead on board- + the revival runes allow you to make relatively big tempo pushes out of nowhere- lochagon and capregal are basically just finishers that help you close out the game- both synergize very well with the amount of heal in the deck- lochagon with a bit of set up can basically board wipe and capregal basically just loops sluggle and makes you immpossible to kill- because you care little about board control in the early game and you have access to very explosive comeback plays later on, you can also usually manage without needing to rely much on backrow- all of this combined creates a playstyle that a lot players aren't really used to and have a hard time playing in to- which helps a lot with getting into top cut- some of the unique parts of the current format also further benefit the deck- people play rather conservative, vysceris being semi'd meaning there's much less of a punish for not having counters- demeter, chik & zeus limited means far less common ways to get over a 2cost like capregal or loch- very few stadiums overall meaning atlantis can just help you get over a good amount of statlines- all of this said- the deck probably isn't really that good- it's a little bit like owls in that the pay off are explosive combos that you just kinda have to hope to find, the difference is you take a generally much slower and more grindy approach to getting to them, because you have the heal tools necessary to be able to afford it- i mainly played it for the tournament because it was very fun to play in my experience, not because i thought it was good enough to win the thing- it loses harder to variance than most represented decks and has a hard time dealing with galaxea and specteris, which are format staples rn- also you sometimes just don't draw the right combination of cards early enough, so if your is able to pressure you with a very aggressive playstyle you can occasionally just lose before you get going- also the list i played probably wasn't optimal- there's a lot of things you wanna fit into the deck, but it's hard to find the right balance-

Whenever I see a good card or potentially good card/archetype underperform this hard in these streams I can't help but think back to Dark World. That was a Yugioh deck that for years we thought sucked but in retrospect was probably the strongest deck for years because at the time people were building it like doodoo

21:03 ayyy that's my deck Rockless Drakking I lost to normal Drakking twice so failed experiment I guess Dense Fog in main was a mistake, it was mostly to play around the Galaxsea meta but it didn't really work out and I sided it out every time not bad results for a 2nd tournament, but I probably could have at least ended positive with a better list

Drakking players dont know that drakking/kurabyss only hits the board in like one out of ten games, you need good cards to win the other nine out of ten games

The Yu-Gi-Oh players aren't gonna like it but the solution to a lot of the problems you identify in your streams (the good card problem, the redundancy problem, one-ofs being sacky, the general problem with base set cards being too strong) is to wait for a few more sets, do a reprint set, and then introduce Rotation.

I still believe that they need to limit Counters to only 2 copies per rune all around. It does hurt some decks like bears but it provides more room for game plan decks to succeed.

I think we actually need more cards like Pharogeist. From what I'm hearing he is a 3 drop that gives you the value to play it. Where as of now we have 2 and 3 drops that aren't worth it. Which plays into why rn the meta is just play good guyz.

This kind of seems like banlists made from the perspective of more mature games like yugioh. You hit a couple consistency tools and limit some finishers/endboard pieces and call it a day. The problem is that the game is way too young, all the power is centralized so heavily that there isn't something "just below" the power level of the hit decks to take its place. This feels like trying to shake up GOAT format by limiting Sakuretsu Armor. Like yeah, some good decks lose some removal but it's not going to change the tier lists dramatically.

they should design sets to the power level of base set, not compared to FF or DB

I feel like when it comes to Elestrals at a competitive level there are only three Pantheons; Earth, Thunder, and Water. The rest just don't have any space in the high end of competitive play. If that was to changes, they need cards that let them compete. Something worth bringing to worlds.

The "banned card in a precon thing" for magic was 1 specific deck a long time ago and the banned card has been legal for years and is basically unplayable in the format now

It's so funny there's been a lot of comments on youtube from casual players (or to be honest mostly observers who haven't played) about how unfair it is that Elestrals is already hitting cards when the game is so young. But then you get a bunch of yugioh players, and suddenly the complaints are about how they didn't straight up murder these decks. Personally I take the cowardly centrist option and think that these hits, which are hopefully going to succeed in bringing Earth/Thunder at closer in power to other decks even if they'll still be the strongest, seem pretty good to me.

I can agree with Trishula that the testing being a few months makes more sense.

My only issue was being a SS subscriber. Last month was thunder and a few days prior to the drop of the list was Earth. Horrible timing, especially when many of the thunder hits were chase cards people just paid money to go after. Not sure I would have stayed subscribed and struggling to want to keep receiving packs in the future.

13:00 This is exactly why I'm anti limits when it comes to Elestrals, like Magic, you don't have access to your entire deck at all times. If a card is good at 3, it will still, almost invariably, be good and played at nearly the same rate at 1. All it does is make your deck more sacky, which is the opposite of what they should be shooting for, IMO

explanation for the 20th place Volt list: imo you don't even really want to engage in a regular game when running Volt. You only want to play a guy, have it survive and next turn ascend into your win condition- and honestly as long as you get there, you just win the game- Nog helps with getting to enough stuff to set that up- and i play a bunch of useless spirits for the stuff in the side anyways, so they make great fodder for NoG- Speaking of the side deck: the Voltempest strategy obviously has a glaring weakness to gorgon's gaze- so i don't think it's a good choice to run Volt throughout an entire best of 3- so the idea is you side out of all the Volt specific stuff into a regular deck- especially when going second, because getting out Volt is considerably harder when going second- going forward i'd cut the race engine tho, even when disregarding the banlist

I think it really speaks to the design qualtiy of both hurricane specifically and elestrals as a whole that an effect this good within the context of how the game is played is so debatable. The design of an invoke rune costing 3 different spirits, paired with a high-power effect, is so elegant and leads to interesting decision-making both in deckbuilding and during games because of how it interacts with the spirit deck

I think the biggest issue with hurricane is actually the big commitment of spirit it requires- not in deck building, but in actual gameplay and spirit management- 3 spirits is kinda a big deal and sure if you have enough spirits to resolve a game-winning play afterwards it's great, but how long can you really justifiy keeping those spirits around, considering you'll likely have to expend constantly over the course of the game and you either need to assemble a specific combo or get your opponent low enough that something like arc will actually end the game- and the more diluted your spirit deck is the earlier you're encouraged to expend "dead" spirits that don't benefit the cards you have drawn until that point- additionally, i don't think the problem with blazerus was ever really that it couldn't force the game-ending play through- it's usually that it fails to assemble the necessary pieces before running out of spirits- and i don't think hurricane actually changes much about that- but i would probably agree that something like thunder with arcalith is the best home for hurricane- simply because the spirits are very easy to justify, arcalith is a great pay-off & magneros can even grab you hurricane for free if you're lucky- and if they play around hurricane, the in-element thunderstorm becomes better-
