Fixing A Vintage HONDA Generator - Will It Make POWER Again?
What model radio fits?
The way I did it, any double din will fit.
What diameter hose should I use?
If I remember right it was 1/4" fuel line I used.
This is great
I noticed the Iowa plate I’ve got a 81 exspress for sale if your interested
As much as I'd love to start a collection of them, I really shouldn't. Good luck with the sale though.
Thanks ‼️👍👍👍
You're welcome!
How many bulbs did it take go change all of them
I don't remember exactly. I think I bought 20 total, so I had some left over.
He said, "Jump in the truck and do some 2wd driving". lol you mean, be a hooligan like the rest of us?
You get it :)
@EvanWells07 I have a 05 explorer 4.6l 2wd loaded with junk rim and tires from the salvage yard they work fantastic for traction weight
@kotybenedict2640 I had a 2wd explorer once, sold it and got the 4x4. That thing went anywhere, and actually rarely used the 4x4 because it had a posi rear end. Never even put any weight in that one.
@EvanWells07 oh yeah the 3rd gen explorer's will go anywhere without complaints, I have a Yukon locker with 3.23 gear, but I live down in the DFW area in texas so we get several inches of solid ice than anything
@kotybenedict2640 I would have liked to keep mine, but it was starting to rust and needed more work than I felt like putting in it.
That is a true survivor bike back in the day with no by Miranda Street there was no BMXs no mountain bike just straight up cruiser 👍😲 define an air conditioning unbelievable great great condition 1958 1960😮🥹
Thanks! It sure is, which is why I also kept the fenders, so it could be put back to original if need be.
Does it matter what type of LED I replace my bulbs every I my truck start to act up
The cheap Amazon / eBay ones don't seem to last for me. The ones in mine now are from Auxito on eBay, but any of the more expensive ones would probably work just the same.
I have an 84 virago. Hasnt ran in ten years. Got it running. Need to sync the carbs (there is 2). Having issues trying to fix mixture and sync.
I have several videos about tuning these bikes, as well as fighting my own issues with them. Mine would always run rich no matter what I did, finally found some failed o-rings in the carbs.
@EvanWells07 o rings are good and seated well. I love working on my own bike. Maybe i'll drag it to a shop and try to let em let me watch. Thanks for the snappy response and solid content!
@willisboghart1781 thanks! Hope it all works out for you. These are fun bikes, just that the carbs can be tricky to get dialed in.
Did you GM ping upon uphill acceleration giving you the reason to replace the MAF sensor? I have a 98 Crown Vic that’s been pinging its butt off. People say its the MAF, but how can I confirm it? No CEL active.
Typically watching live data is going to be the way to figure that out. You could try cleaning the MAF, that's cheap and easy.
@ did that a few times still happens
@strumminandwrenchin9162 well you could try swapping it out and see if that fixes it. You would need a scan tool capable of reading live data to really pinpoint the issue.
Nice job! greetings from the Netherlands. XXX p.s.11:52 ; what was that car in the background?
Evan, awesome video. I think this is the only 2din head unit panther video that covers that air duct in older models. I only saw this video after I cut that stupid duct out the way haha. I was ready to give up when I just said screw it and cut the thing.
Thanks! That duct isn't ideal, but all these years later it still works fine.
Can i do this to my 2002 grand marquis
I just had to break my radio face place off too lol
My 1996 buick lasabre car power is weak is it my spark plugs?
Is the car misfiring? Setting any codes?
@EvanWells07 yes. I went to auto zone today and for a print out. #6 sparkplug, but its still rumbling at lights and stop signs.
@MarliynHolcomb did you replace just the spark plugs, or plugs and wires? There are a bunch of reasons that an engine could have a cylinder 6 misfire. Could be the coil, a fuel injector, valve issue or compression issue, head gasket... Replacing the plug is a cheap and easy start, but you would need to continue diagnosing the issue.
Yes I did replace the 6 plug. I had a tune-up done a few months ago. Yesterday I had the cylinder coil changed. I bought this car from sitting up for a long while after someone's death. So there's a lot need to be done. Thank you so much for responding.
I have an issue where the heat is not turning on at all. I replaced the screen with an aftermarket one and it was working fine until I got it back from the stealership
The core may be severely plugged, or there may be an issue with the blend door. A quick way to tell if the core is flowing is if one hose into it is hot, and the other is cold (or much cooler).
You failed to show me how to disconnect the cable at the back of the cluster.
Thats the only reason I was watching this video lol. Thank you for saving me time
Where are you located? I've got one you can do. Wanna do a road trip to kansas city? 😂
Can you still adjust bass and treble?
Yes the one I put in had a much better EQ than factory.
Not the rooster 🤣
This is identical to a special service tool Honda has for the CRVs to fix heater core blockage. I built something similar using a submersible pond pump. Only addition I'd make is get an inline filter that's cleanable.
The Honda service bulletin to use CLR to flush the core is where I got the idea. I had done a few by the bulletin, then made this. I thought about a filter, but have the pick up hose at the top of the water line, and the return towards the bottom. The debris falls to the bottom pretty well so it doesn't recirculate through the core.
that new head really helps
It's so hard to tell with the little power these make wether something really helps or not, but that is for sure one you can tell just in the way it runs.
i hear those do better with synthetic oil, i imagine it mixes with gas better
I have heard that, but never tried it. I also want to try some of the engineered fuel as well to see if it's any better.
Why does air flow sensor makes humming noise
It shouldn't make any noise.
What brand of plugs do you like on a Buick? I bought NGK Platinum, but wasn't sure, as I was thinking perhaps ACDelco were made for them?
Any more I go for quality over name brand. I put NGK in almost everything I own. Some times I will use AC Delco or Autolite depending on application, but in general I would say 80-90% of the time it's NGK. They make a quality product and I haven't had problems.
And great teachings throughout this video! I've put 150 km, or about 90k miles on a 93 Buick Century I bought cheap almost 5 years ago! always ran great. Just last week it started to miss. I changed the plugs, then found the problem was a wire. Like in this video, about a great time for new wires, 32 years, lol. Now it has 285,000 kms on it, near 180,000 miles. Great car!
I'm typically a Ford guy (probably obvious from my other videos) but am not afraid to admit if another make / model is good as well. The late 90's and early 2000's GMs were decent vehicles, and can be had for pretty cheap these days. The GM 3000 series engines are overall really reliable and will go for a ton of miles if maintained properly. This car is my daughters first vehicle if that says anything.
At 3:35 , the wire holder cover on front of engine, (probably same on back) approximately 3/4" X 10", Im wondering how to remove? It does slide a bit side to side, but..... tried pulling it straight up, no go. Lol Any ideas?
Yeah that should just pop off. Sometimes they can be a little stubborn, but nothing holds them on but a little tension.
@EvanWells07 ok, will try again thanks
What fuse did you go to
In my case I tapped into the sunroof fuse. Anything that is a keyed circuit will work, but preferably one that isn't used a lot as to not overload that particular circuit (unless you use one of the double fuse holders like I did) but I still like to use a circuit that isn't frequently used.
@ so is that a switched fuse?the problem I keep happening is the screen stays on when the car is shut off and I have to remember to shut the screen off manually
@lightsout4331 yes that is a switched (or keyed) circuit. Anything that only turns on when the ignition is turned on will work.
@ appreciate you! 💪
N!CE JoB BruH
😂
New handle: Ebay, amazon or where?
eBay
Thanks for this video. The dang Ford place offered to do it for $300.00. I about passed out at the fact that they thought I would even dare say yes.😂
Hopefully it helps! These really are simple to replace.
Good video
Thanks!
Awesome video the only thing that would be better is if you put up a link of where you bought the parts from it such as the carburetor, intake, and battery. It can be stressful trying to find the correct parts for the Honda Express.
Thanks! I get almost everything from eBay, so links don't last like on Amazon ones. I usually try to show part #'s of stuff I order, so you can search them by that.
Do you have a video on how to modified the rear fender
Unfortunately I don't. I built this before I was doing RUclips, which is why I only have videos on tuning it and stuff like this one.
true a little too much oil never hurt an engine
Yeah, it won't hurt it, but it's also not ideal. On the 2 strokes it will mess with the fuel ratio and can run better / worse depending on how close or far off it is. Since I'm not out here trying to race people, I think it will be ok :)
Can the seat be raised at all?
Not really.
Has that got a open rear differential
Yes. I have debated putting a posi in it, but never got around to it, plus it gets around fine without.
@ ok I have a 2010 ford ranger super cab 2wd I got a 3 inch lift and a set of 31 all terrain s I’m gonna chuck some weight on back how do u think it will handle its automatic with a open rear differential and traction control I’m in Canada
@RandyRoss-b6r should be fine. I have a 96 ranger 2wd also that I used to daily drive and it got around fine. I would put snow tires on the rear back then and about 4 sandbags.
@@EvanWells07 ok thanks I’m on the east coast don’t snow a whole lot but we get some
In itself, does the big 3 of the alternator go to the solenoid and from the solenoid to the battery? Or does it go directly to the alternator battery? I have a doubt, since I want to do the big 3 and I didn't understand very well.
It can go to either the battery or the solenoid. I have done it both ways before. As long as you are upgrading the cable from the battery to the solenoid as well, then it doesn't make much difference.
@ you see that in this type of van it goes through the solenoid and in others it doesn't, what do you recommend best, should it be from the battery to the solenoid and from the solenoid to the alternator? or from the battery directly to the alternator? since I will put 100% copper zero cable for audiocar. another, the ground one goes from the battery to ground on the chassis, and the other where would it be good? and one screw on the alternator that makes a good ground! I would really appreciate the help
@enriquegarfer07 I usually run to where ever the original cable went for power. If it went to the battery or the solenoid. The ground I just add one from the case of the alternator to the frame, and upgrade the stock one from the battery to the frame.
@ My thought is, I already have a new one from the battery to the frame which is ground, I'm missing the one from the ground to the alternator ground or engine screw, and the positive would be from the battery to the solenoid and from the solenoid to the alternator. Do you think it's better this way or should I send it directly from the battery to the alternator?
@enriquegarfer07 I think either way would work fine.
I keep 50 lbs weights in the back of mine 😂😂
All the traction 😂
Man , so glad you made this video ... Your little one rocked it . Just waiting on part to get back up and running the green ,green grass of home .
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching!
Valve guide seals may need replacement
I can happily say that several years later it does not smoke anymore. Only thing I have done it what's in the video.
Welding with no gloves and no eye protection 😂 that’s a true man right there brother! Sick vid 🤟
Lol some times ya gotta do what ya gotta do! Thanks for watching
I’ve had a new car for couple years but my edge has been sitting since then due to transmission problems. When driving it from a stop sometimes it will slip out of one gear and then jerk back in really hard. All the other gears go in fine but if you was to get in the gas while cruising and then let out of it real fast it will do the same jerk also. Any advice will help! Thanks
Is it setting any codes? How does the transmission fluid look?
@ well it will throw a wrench if you take battery cables off and will act worse until you drive it for a while then it will ease up a little bit from the jerk but it will still jerk but the wrench will go off and try to act normal it’s still not normal tho
@KaleeGreen-b7q are you talking about the wrench light? If so that means it's most likely setting a transmission fault code. I would start by reading the code, then go from there.
👍
Thanks for watching!
came here cause my dad has a 04 LeSabre he's letting me borrow (my 96 corolla needs a new starter) cause one day it was running fine then the next day when I went to start it, it didn't sound right & drove kinda odd so I didn't want to risk driving it
