On Halloween the game should have jumpscares in creepy places like Steam Tunnels 👹

🔥 *Hot tip of the day* The Warming Up buff that teas provide significantly slows down the loss of warmth. Hence it is beneficial to get this buff on full warmth bar. For example, you can wait till the warmth bar depletes to 60% then drink hot reishi/rose hip tea, it will replenish the bar to 100% and give the buff. Other hot drinks replenish only 20%, and hot foods even less, but they all give the same one hour duration Warming Up buff.
With ptarmigans, unlike rabbits, you generally only get one chance with a rock -- after which the rest of the birds will scatter and disappear for a while. The exception to this is with a bow. You can kill ptarmigans (in or out of stealth mode) with a bow, and not have the entire nest scatter afterwards. The trick is to shoot from far enough away (if you are standing), or to shoot from stealth (which requires Archery Level 5). Generally, archery is the only way to get an entire nest of 5 birds in one go.
Don't forget that 55% is now your base chance to start fires. But when you open up the firestarting window to attempt to start one, you can see at the top right what your net % chance is, and you can adjust each of the ingredients to see how making a change affects your net chance. The type of firestarter affects your overall chance, and so does the fuel type (sticks, books, reclaimed wood, cedar, and fir have different qualities -- some are better than others). Your chance at 9:50 was up to 75%. But try experimenting with firestarters and fuel **BEFORE** attempting to light the fire -- to see how the net chance is affected. If you have a magnifying glass, this is also important to try on sunny days *before* lighting a torch -- because you may not actually need to use a match at all!
Fly by crows indicate that the weather has changed. Nothing else.
Good to know! I must have just gotten lucky this time 😂
@mayasaurus Funnily enough, community came up with all kinds of assumptions about what flyby crows signify over the years. Flying in a direction of a carcass was one of them. I mean it's logical, because crows circle above carcasses. Another myth was that they predict that the blizzard must come soon. But no, there is a line in old game update notes that I found recently, indicating their connection to the immediate weather change, but not necessarily to a blizzard. 😄
While waiting for the deer carcass to thaw you could have boiled water. That's literally free water. If too heavy, excess water could always be dropped somewhere. Water doesn't spoil and gets consumed constantly, you'll be glad to find free water later on.
I personally don't bother picking up burnt torches to harvest later. - There is plenty enough new sticks lying around - A burnt torch in the inventory is a dead 0.3kg weight until harvested. You can collect two new sticks off the ground in its place for the same weight. - Harvesting torches is a tedious task - Finally, it's immersion breaking: you get a torch for 10mins of campfire time, then you burn the torch (varies from max 45mins to 18mins), then you break up a BURNT torch to get a stick which gives 7.5mins campfire burn time (which is then increased by fire starting skill, on lvl 5 you get 11.25mins of burnt time from a stick). Kind of silly.
I normally only pick them up later in the game. "Who littered there???! Oh... yeah, it was me. Guess i'm cleaning that up now". Not for practical reasons xD
ℹ Crows flying by is a visual indication that the weather has changed. Nothing else. The fact that you stumbled on a carcass roughly in the direction of the fly is just a coincidence.
💬 *Tip of the day:* If you're going to travel don't drink to full during the day - leave enough empty stomach space for the future hot teas you'd need to chug. Teas replenish a good amount of thirst on their own. For this reason my thirst level typically oscilates around midway during the day.
With the new safehouse customization update, you can actually move an existing workbench from one location and build a new one at a new location -- but I think you need unique "woodworking tools" in order to build the new workbench. But this means you could move the outside workbench at the prison, into one of the warm interiors (like where the ammunition bench and milling machine are). Then you wouldn't have to worry about needing a bunch of firewood in order to craft clothing. It's a pretty cool feature .... but I haven't yet tried it myself, as I haven't had enough time to play this past week (and it's been really buggy for those of us on Playstation)!
The best setup is to have both workbenches at a place: one inside, one outside. Helps with Cabin Fever.
Yeah, I remember seeing that in the recent update video! I think you're right that it requires woodworking tools so I don't think I'll be able to take advantage of that any time soon 😞

33:00 acorns maybe small but oak trees aren't :) you'll find them
i'm not 100% sure but it seems that "Lost and found" are items that you left somewhere in the world that were getting in the way of update. So, to not destroy them or make inacessible, they are transported into these boxes near major structures. At least that's my guess because i've found some very specific stuff i left in a fishing hut in one of them.
You got it right
*TIP:* You can drag and drop items on the ground by pressing one of the gamepad's triggers.
24:50 Partly eaten cattail stalks prevent proper stacking

Welcome back from your cozy sunny vacation doing Japan-style street renovations to the harsh and desolate wastes of Great Bear! You were missed😁
😂Thank you, glad to be back!
Don't forget that in Episode #11, you surveyed near the Foreman's Clearcut, and located a climbing spot where rosehips were growing, and you even climbed up the climbing spot -- but then turned around and went back down without exploring the upper area. I'm surprised you didn't mention that when you were listing areas to explore for possible ways out of Blackrock.
Oh that's right, I totally forgot about that! Thank you for reminding me!
Jet Lagged!
Get well soon, Maya! Love you! 💓
Ruined sewing kits, whetstones, etc. can be placed into a container, and then they will disappear. So you can get rid of items that way, if you don't want them cluttering up the world.
Congratulation on making rabbit mitts! Just a note about fuel and crafting: You don't necessarily have to have a fire going at all times to make those rabbit mitts. At 21:20 your temperature was only dropping by one down-arrow. You can craft your mitts in segments (as you found out while making water). Do one hour of work on the mitts initially, without a fire, and your temperature might not have dropped too much with only one down-arrow. Re-assess your temperature and the weather every hour. If you're cold, you can run inside to warm up in bed. Then come back and do another hour of crafting. You can conserve your fuel this way for when it is absolutely needed. Just something to consider -- because you do spend a LOT of time gathering sticks and coal.
Sport socks aren't worth wasting cloth for repairing them, especially in regions short on cloth.
Mayasaurus is evolving into a battle hardened survivor, gradually adopting efficient inventory management. That's right, no need to carry most of the crap! Through with the gunpowder! We don't need that! We don't accept guns on Interloper. Make peace, not war! Sticks are a major weight capacity eater, though. I suggest offloading most of them at major stops in the region. Instead, carry a small stock of weight efficient fuel, like coal, cedar, reclaimed wood in case you'd need to make a fire. And always burn away sticks first, as they are weight inefficient. *Tip:* For easier inventory weight management pick sorting by weight in the inventory screen.
My approval of that reddit's suggestion!👌
You should know that the world is getting progressively colder, on Interloper faster that on easier difficulties. Constantly improving your clothes first by looting then by crafting is one of the main priorities.
Oof, yet another thing for me to worry about 😂
@@mayasaurus You'll manage! Start looking for exits from the region (they are tricky to find), while getting and curing enough rabbit and deer materials to craft warmer clothes.
It's so silly that you can go so close to bunnies now. When the game didn't have rocks to throw implemented yet, bunnies detected you much further away.
Deerskin dream is alive, yay! Deerskin stuff always required a Sewing Kit or a Fishing Tackle to craft, from the early alpha builds until now. Probably some mistaken fool edited the wiki. I fixed it now. For a moment I also got confused by the misinformation.😅
My goodness, you are a pack rat! Some stuff can be left behind. Just sayin'. Like, dusting sulfur, stump remover, and gunpowder -- very very heavy items that are almost no use to you on Interloper (as they relate to guns and ammunition).
Hey Mayasaurus, my mistake -- I didn't notice that the deerskin boots and pants only required a sewing kit (and not a knife). I'm not sure if that was always the case or not. Certainly the Long Dark Wiki thinks that the deer clothing still requries a knfe. But in-game, the crafting menu only says sewing kit. (Whereas the wolf, bear, and moose items still appear to need a knife). Anyway, sorry about that. Next time I will double-check my own in-game crafting menu before I talk!
I can never remember which craft requires what tool, so i feel you.
No worries! 😁
Randomly stumbled upon this playthrough of early access TLD ruclips.net/p/PLYqfXQ-ztmZLMe5XYUh5rU--jEqwRT0CY by one of my fav letsplayer from Yogscast back in the day. The one I've mentioned before in my comments. He is pretty humorous. Your style of commentary kind of reminded me of him.
Congratulations on making it 10 days! On a side note: you might want to look more closely at your crafting menu, to see the full requirements to make deer hide clothing, knives, hatchets, etc. There are several workbenches in Blackrock, but some of these clothing items also require tools (such as a knife) along with the workbench. And unfortunately, the only way to make (improvised) knives and hatchets is with a Heavy Hammer and coal (and scrap metal too) at a forge. You're going to need to find a hammer (and ideally a hacksaw too -- to cut saplings for bows and arrows), and make your way to a forge -- if you want to eventually start making your own clothing, making knives and hatchets, and arrowheads, arrows, and bows.
Oh my god, I didn't realize that you needed a knife to make deer clothes - I thought you only needed a sewing kit! 😭I really really need to find that forge!
@@mayasaurus At least you can craft some rabbit stuff
@@mayasaurus Yeah, on Interloper it's hard to do a lot without first getting a hammer and beginning to forge. Especially if you want to start hunting with your bow!
Poor sticks! Left out in the cold, alone, at night!🥲
11:37 Maya the Wolf Whisperer
Really enjoying this series so far! Quite impressive, my first Interloper runs after finishing storymode were nowhere near this good. I've been watching another streamer play Interloper having never tried story mode and you're basically the Gallant to his Goofus.
Maya is an amazingly fast learner😊
Thank you!!! I feel like I've had a lot of help along the way 😁

Nice
23:06 When you're trying to find stuff in your inventory, you can select a category of item to narrow your search (fire-starting materials, first aid, clothing, food, tools, and crafting materials). The default shows you "all items" but it's way easier to find things by picking the category you want first. And even within those sub-categories, you can filter your items to sort by name, condition, or weight. So if you want to see your heaviest items in order to figure out how to lose weight, that's a good quick method. Or if you want to view your food items by lowest condition first -- in order to either consume the bad stuff first (or in order to avoid it, due to food poisoning risks) you can also do that quite easily.
20:17 Yes, you can make a sled to carry all your coal! Check out the travois in your crafting menu.
Oooh, nice - I had no idea that existed! I've been kind of ignoring the crafting menu because I know I can't make much yet, but I should be able to soon! 😁
Epic!
Great episode. Glad to see you are now calculating your calorie needs before bedtime.... that is going to help you keep your condition up from here on. Sounds like you already have some idea of what to expect in the mine, from your Wintermute experience. My only suggestion -- leave all non-essential items at the start of the mine, to get your weight down. Also, if you look at your clothing page, it shows you a Sprint % number (based on any clothing items that reduce your ability to sprint well). Ideally, you want your sprint total to be 100% (maximum) -- at least for this investigation of the mine. The mine should be warm enough inside for you to shed all the clothing items that reduce your sprinting ability. If you dump your excess weight in terms of items, and dump your encumbering clothing items, you will be able to move faster through the poisonous gas area. All you really need down there is your light source, and a bit of food and water, maybe your bedroll and cookpot. Everything else will slow you down, especially if you want to pick up more loot on the other levels. Anyway, good luck. Looking forward to seeing how it all goes in the next episode!
OMG those MLG shots!😮
32:34 A nest, with coal eggs, and Will sitting on them like a bird. Well, thanks for that imagery!😂
Recently I found out that coffee apparently does not reduce fatigue depletion from rope climbs, unfortunately. Not sure whether they changed it recently or it was always like that. But I drank it for rope climbs before. Try to use frying pans and cooking pots instead of cans, they cook/boil stuff faster. You can stop some activities like eating, resting, (meat) harvesting, some others at any point and it will be left done partly. Not sure what button is responsible for that on the controller, but it's ESC on the keyboard. So, for example you can eat a steak partly, just enough calories you needed measured by the progress bar - easier when diving the bar by half, thirds, quarters. It also allows resting for less than an hour to warm up. Knowing the previous tip, prioritize eating cooked meat/fish, as it weights a lot and spoils faster than packaged foods.
I found you few days ago and just noticed how little of a channel you are so far. Your voice and delivery is so entertaining and I hope you never stop uploading because you’re genuinely the first person I enjoy watching this much in years. Love this series ❤❤
Fully agree! Reminds me of one of my favourite let's players from Yogscast way back when. The casual humor, the delivery, the creative editing. Top notch!
That is so sweet, thank you so much!!! 😊
So, not to spoil anything, but i think you'd be happy to know that after devs went a little crazy with suffocation mechanic they did introduce something to make your life easier. *wink wink* (i'm pretty sure the didn't add it to Wintermute but in survival it's there).
They added it a while after the Blackrock release, right?
@alexxx4434 yeah. Couple of years, i think. Spoiler below . . . . . I doubt they would do it just because but with the Zone of contamination having a massive gas-filled mine they pretty much had to (to keep people exploring it and to give casual players a fair chance of survival; lol, still died there on the first try).
Spray paint is not... well, pros rarely rely on it because carrying extra stuff with you is a big NO and if you know maps well enough it provide little benefit (and being fairly recent addition, people just used to play without it). This being said: it's useful when scouting new maps and marking searched buildings or places where you left stuff (esp in regions like Milton, with a lot of similar houses). I find it extremely useful in bigger cave systems and mines, esp. those in the far territory. You can do more with it, i saw people getting creative, but these are the main uses.
Ooh, good to know. Thank you!
