I wouldn’t use acetone until you’re more experienced, but Denatured alcohol and 0000 (pronounced “four aught”)steel wool will clean up residue before you move on. You could also try oxalic acid for wood bleach. Look up transcend furniture gallery or flipping drawers, they do great work, but very different. Transcend is probably more your style based on this table.

protip: after you use the stripper, use liberal amounts of acetone to remove any residual finish.. then bleach.. but as you said, you are never doing this again

Girl yes! Citristrip is a weird product! I use it twice on surfaces, THICK coats and I cover with plastic. Leave it for at least an hour under the plastic, and then have a bucket of clean water to dip your scraper into between scrapes. The residue can come completely off if you scrape and immediately wipe well with a wet paper towel. Hope this helps!
