We Fight The Dark
США
Добавлен 6 янв 2015
Hey guys, Joe here! Since 2015 my goal has been to share my love of nature and the gear we use to enjoy it. As we near my 10 year anniversary on the platform I have decided to go a different route. There are too many influencers trying to sell you junk you don't need, the "What" of EDC and preparedness. I want to talk more about the "Why" and "How" as well as expand on what preparedness means. It's beyond just stuff, it also requires you to prepare your mind and body.
Our new (temporary?) slogan is "Per Flamma Virtutis" which roughly means "By The Flame Of Virtue/Courage". Every day the world seems to get a little dark with extremism and moral decay at all time highs. We can fight back against it, together, through upholding the values we hold dear.
The perceptions, opinions, beliefs and attitudes expressed here are mine alone and do not represent the policies, standards, opinions or practices of my employer, its staff, clients, affiliated companies, contractors, or vendors.

@TkellKnives Bushman: More Than An Outdoors Knife?
The T. Kell Bushman is a pretty ineresting do-it-all kind of knife coming in at a decent price point. If you're looking for a 100% made in USA knife from a veteran owned company, this may be the one for you.

With the inclusion of 420D Ripstop on the latest bag it really works well especially for those in more urban environments, which is most people. This is my unedited footage from unboxing the Pacaya. I had posted a small snippet a few weeks prior to inform folks of a potential sheath fitment issue which could be dangerous in unknowing hands. It turns out it is likely a batch issue. I waited for a response from ESEE and got none on three different platforms. I love ESEE but they dropped the ball allowing these out in my opinion. The LBT 22L Day Pack (8007a) is a really pleasant upgrade over the 14L variant. You not only get more volume but also more features. I also think the amount of features and weight put it ahead of competing products like the GoRuck GR1 for EDC and One Bag Travel. The only problem I have with these LBT bags is that the 500D they use is a little rough making it a dust and lint magnet. I also wish ...

The Mk. VII Gas Mask Bag: Indiana Jones' EDC Essential
Glad I found this channel. Awesome. What is the blue kershaw knife lol. I want one lol.
That is the USA Made Blade sprint run of the Kershaw Knockout in M390 from about six years ago. Sadly near impossible to find, especially now that Kershaw discontinued the Knockout entirely this October apparently 🥲. Prices even on base models are nuts so one of these would probably be quite spendy. Mines mint since Assisted has been banned here since 2018 but if you keep tabs on my Instagram I may eventually be able to figure out a fair price for selling mine.
What kind of watch is that?!
That is the Citizen Eco-Drive Garrison with a cheap custom band 😁 It's no Omega or Ares but gets the job done and runs via solar.
Nice. Looks good!
can someone tell me if they have an Armitus sheath for the Esee 4hm and if so, how is it?
Waited to see if anyone replied since I haven't used the one for the 4HM but the one for my Izula II was great. Absolutely loved it.
I love my Bushman. The quality is next level and their customer service can't be beat. Currently, I have a Piranha and Nightstalker on order. Between those 3 knives that would cover all my needs but I know I'll be ordering more than what I need!
@@jelig72 I've got a Nightstalker hopefully coming in the next 2 weeks 🤌🏻 with the agent 003 in for a comparison. I have to keep my knives locked up with a little one running around so space is tight but I'm for sure keeping my Bushman and the Nightstalker hopefully 😁
lmao violent riots, such a clown
3v is an odd choice for this size of a knife. Sounds like they got some discounted stock now that Magnacut has been driving 3v prices down. Esee should stick to what they do best, make good entry level 1095 blades.
It's very weird because I love 3V but on a blade this small you're basically paying extra for nothing 🤣. I know Toors mainstay is 3V so I wonder what came first, choosing 3V or choosing Toor? I wish they had either done something more unique or stuck with Rowen and their 1095 and kept it around Izula II pricing. One of these and an Armatus sheath bump it up to like $250ish which is very spicy for what it is when I can get small batch or customs this size for that.
Great video!
Thank ya. I don't normally record myself when I'm testing gear but I may try to this go around if my little guy can hang with his mama for a bit soon. We're attached at the hip currently 😂
I just subscribed
Thank ya kindly good sir :)
How do you like the svm? I have thought about grabbing one, But so many other T kells I want.. Yours looks like the old school Svm
Mine is the new bigger SVM (first batch actually) I just have big hands and an old clip on it 😂. It's very sleek and I dig it a lot but with my bear paws the curved handle is a little cramped. The MagnaCut from him is treated great too which helps a lot. I think only 10-20 of my colorway exist right now and it ran me $340 but the uncoated are around $320. Which is still spicy but around the range of the #003.
@WeFightTheDark I have small paws, I was hoping He was going to bring back the original Svm, One thing that turned me off was the Svm-R Way too much like the night stalker🤷♂️ I watched your video, thanks for the input 🇺🇸
@@ryanhendley4050 It's definitely a nifty return, I think it's been gone since 2018? Yoni mentioned bringing back a couple models so it'll be interesting to see what makes the cut. The SVM-R and DCK-R also overlap a lot so I wonder if he's going to discontinue the DCK-R for a while.
The Kell family has been great to us Tkellians, If you have not seen Tim's old school videos please go back and watch very helpful and humble. Absolutely amazing human🇺🇸
The old ones are super duper great, hopefully they get more time in 2025 to go back to that style 💚
Thank you brother, I’m honored to have your support.
@@TkellKnives 🙏🏻 Keep doing what you're doing folks! 💚
What you said in the beginning about them Tkell was a breath of fresh air couldn't agree more man. Theres so much drama in the knife community right now. Tim and CW are awesome people and the folks that work there are awesome as well. Just subbed awesome channel🤙🏽
@@brandonmaples It's becoming a rarity and something I greatly appreciate. And thank you good sir :)!
I have both and I carry the orange bailout 3v more than the Malibu I like the slimmer carry my daughter always jacks my Malibu lol.
Thankfully our little ones are too small xD. I also really dig how think it is. Pocket clip is a smidge tight for some of my pant hems but I can always bend it to fix that if I am ever not lazy.
Pro-Tech is a good company that likes you, Benchmade is a horrible company that hates you. Easy choice.
Truer words have not been spoken! I don't know who manages the pricing at Benchmade but they have to be a coke fiend. If their QC was better I'd be less salty.
I like the fox color
It provides some really nice contrast :)
Get a Kershaw Iridium for $70 and you won't cry if it disappears or Bubba borrows it and breaks the tip off using it as a chisel.
It really is good too, smooth action.
It's not in the same class, especially with D2 steel, but a great budget alternative. The Kershaw Bel-Air is more in line and IMHO better value than either, though I've heard some complaints about the bearings on that model. If I had neither and the Bel-Air came in a better color, I'd save the money and go with that for sure.
I filmed this while battling a fever so I apologize for being a little fumbly. Obviously the Bailout clip is the shorter one 😅.
Was rocking a 5.11 Rapid origin 25l pack for 3yrs and this lbt pack blows it out the water.
I basically look at LBTs civilian side as Jansport x 5.11 done the 'Murican way 😂❤️🤍💙. Love their stuff and actually have a 30L on the way.
I have their 14L in wolf grey, which IMO, is their best grey and non-patterned color. Unfortunately I had to get my 22L in MAS. Not bad but not nearly as nice as the Wolf. Again IMO.
Their wolf gray also matches up with other companies kit better since it's similar/identical to the other urban grays out there. MAS really requires ya to be ok to mix and match or stick to LBT.
This or LBT?
Ok that's a toughy. I always prefer to support domestic and the LBT 22L has more space and more/better organization on the front plus water bottle pockets on the outside. The CT comes with more polish though, better EDC centric materials and they're lined which LBTs aren't. LBT also lacks a laptop space which is critical for some folks, while CT has a fair one. For me I'd go LBT but most will like the CT more I think.
Blows my mind how his stuff isn’t even more popular than it is. I’ve got both sizes of the Flippin’, and they’re both in regular rotation with my EDC. Top quality stuff.
He's awesome and I'm hoping as word of mouth continues he'll get the clout he deserves!
ESEE Izula sheath was the same, and it was an injection molded plastic sheath vs kydex. I had to break through a little mound of plastic (like a retaining nub) just to get it out. Ridiculous
The injection sheaths are dog water in my experience 😬 Not sure why they're still doing them in 2024. I had to take sand paper to mine. They're driving a ton of business to Armatus though because he actually knows how to make a sheath 🤣
When I was about 9, I brought an empty disposable lighter to school, and adults freaked out for nothing. It was fun to play with making sparks against a handrail on stairs. A butane lighter with complete combustion is better than the rest. It can shoot the jets horizontally. But you cannot use it as a flashlight or burn armpit hair. There are dozens of brands. I rarely see Bic, just like with pens. It's an evil corporation, making the plastic opaque and filling only halfway with gas. The transparent, rectangular ones are most common, and more recently Form with a piezo crystal, which can be reused in a spark pistol for a gas stove. It doesn't seem to come out of my Honest lighter, so that will be done for eventually. They break eventually being made of plastic. The gas is advertised as a propane-butane mix. Some gas comes out in freezing conditions. I wonder how does the pressure work for a mix. My physics is a bit rusty. Maybe liquid hydrocarbons can be poured onto kindling or used to wash off glue, but I don't see any benefits if they are allowed to evaporate.
Looks like the rip stop is out right nwo
They JUST (like within the hour) restocked them :)
What is the real weight of CT21 in 420D Ripstop?
By my scale, with the included rain cover, it's just under 3lbs. Id say like 2lbs 14. oz or there abouts.
They discontinued the rapid quad zip.. this looks like a good replacement 👍🏻
I haven't seen them restock the black yet so I'm really hoping they didn't discontinue this as well. They have a weird habit of coming out with cool designs then nuking them within 1-2 years 😬 RIP AMP series.
@@WeFightTheDark Theyre in stock where i am, so ill have to buy one quick. What is up with them doing that!
I wish I knew 😭
really sad.
It seems quality control is all over with these. Some are fine, some are even worse than mine was.
Why didn’t they just make the Izula 2 in 3v??? 🤷♂️
I wish! I think it comes down to Rowen. They do 1095 very well, but they may not be equipped to machine and treat higher end steels. So they went with Toor for some reason and if you're going with a different company you might as well do a different design along with it? Least that's how I'm trying to rationalize it.
@@WeFightTheDarkI’m carrying my Izula 2 today. It’s just awesome
Which would you choose the 22L or 14L I'm torn
That's a hard one. For my EDC the 14L is plenty but when it comes to carrying extra like child care stuff or walking to different shops the extra space of the 22L is welcome. It definitely packs bigger than most other 22L I've handled. Probably closer to a 25-30L comparison from some other companies.
When the knife is close the round part of the lock sticks past the end of the knife. I dropped mine on concrete and messed the lock up. I noticed the fakes have a longer handle at the top that protects that.
Neat stuff, just checked out the website. Where in NY ? Upstate or Lower ?
Him and I are both Upstate :) I operate out of Rochester and he's located southern tier-ish, Elmira.
@@WeFightTheDark had a business in Putnam county for 25 years.
Thank you for the review
Change your username to be all official and shiz nit 😝 We gotta get you making videos.
My daughter has the maroon and purple 14l along with matching fanny packs, she loves LBT!!!
They're super great for the price and pleasantly lightweight! I sent one to a buddy of mine who normally carries the super bulky 1000D Cordura military style bags and made him a believer :P
Thanks for the review.. Not a bad looking or purposeless blade. Truly, if ESEE would make their already legendary models in a variety of super steels i would be fine if they chose to do absolutely nothing else from here on.
I would love love love an ESEE 4 in 3V. I think the problem may be getting a manufacturer. Rowen makes some of the best 1095 knives out there but I don't know if they're equipped to tool the better steels which can be way more difficult to work with. Toor has their own company to worry about so I don't know if they have the capacity to run multiple models for someone else. I don't see why Rowen can't upgrade their equipment though with an investment from ESEE perhaps.
Ripstop nylon or polyester thats make a huge différence
Nylon but I can't find any confirmation if it's Robic or not. Robic is the only one I know off my head that does 420D though, the generic I've seen are 400D.
nice review!
Great review of this bag, I appreciate how thorough you are. 👍Take care my friend and Cheers!
Just subscribed and Was curious what your favorite edc bag is? I have a 511 Rush 12 which I love but hate how heavy it is and lacks breathability. Wondering if you had any recommendations? Mainly just using bag for iPad , water bottle, first aid, chargers. Wanted to start carrying a bag for a get home bag in case of emergency. Thanks for any recommendations
I like the LBT 14L and 22L a lot personally because they're light but still durable. For something a smidge more tech/urban friendly Chuyen Tactical has been coming out with great options that are affordable. I would try to keep it 25L or below if possible. A lot of folks fall into the trap of carrying too much so it helps keep ya focused. I have an Alpha One Niner in that range but it's also heavy like the Rush series. I don't have a video yet but I've been testing a Grey Ghost Gear assault pack thats ripstop and it's mad light.
@@WeFightTheDark which do you like better for edc the LBT 14L or 22L can't decide between the 2
Very nice, may have to grab one in ripstop myself to add to the arsenal. Glad to see you out and shooting brother. Take Care
It's hard as heck but I'm hoping to do more this coming week x.x my ankle is still shot which sucks.
This model is currently sold out as of posting but more are on the way.
I have since deleted Part 2 due to audio issues I couldn't fix at the time. This comment serves as a summary: I got no response from ESEE after almost two weeks. As of writing this comment it has now been a month with no response. A commenter mentioned that ESEE told them it was normal and that it just had to break in which is unacceptable IMHO as many were too tight to even put back in once, let alone several times. Another individual on Part 2 stated that ESEE was now redirecting QC complaints to Toor Knives (who made the blade, not the sheath) which is even more unacceptable to me. The sheaths were made by White River Knives and it should be on them and ESEE to fix the problem. Knife Center did get back to me and issued a full refund and audited their stock to try and remove those with bad sheaths. After hearing numerous complaints like mine, it appears to be a batch issue. Not all are as bad as mine but many are far too tight. Overtight sheaths are a major cause for self-inflicted cuts and stab wounds which is why this should have been publicly acknowledged and addressed, yet as of now hasn't been to my knowledge. In terms of the knife itself. I understand what they were going for, a more premium Izula 2 but it lacks jimping (which is personal preference) and is too similar to the Izula II and 3HM for me to recommend it if you already have those blades. 3V is an awesome steel, and Toor has worked with it for years, but 1095 is enough for most outdoors folks and ESEEs warranty makes breakages mostly a non-issue. If they fix the sheath it's a decent blade, albeit a little overpriced, but nothing impressive. You can get custom and mid-tech blades in this price range that are more unique. Overall ESEE needs to move out of the past and start making more original designs. Seeing the same old thing slightly tweaked over and over has customers bored and moving on to greener pastures.
I have the Sencillo in A2.. love the knife but it has the exact same sheath.., the same sheath as the White River Ursus 45 and the model one that I also own.. the sheath are all ok for the most part… The Ursus 45 was kinda bad.., not like yours bad but was kinda close.. just sayin.. I’ll save my $$
I haven't gotten to test the WR knives yet but everyone I've spoken to has basically said similar, save some cash and get one of their knives over the 'upgraded' ESEE.
Personally I think taco kydex is cheaper than pancake kydex and I don’t like it at all
Isn’t there a fabric inside the kydex to reduce the click in tactical situations? Like all toor knives
Nope, the sheaths are purely kydex and apparently made by White River Knives. Why they had two separate companies do it is beyond me but they've done it before.
Thank you for this video. I was on the fence about this one. Going to pass. Esee should have focused on release of the cr 3.0 they teased instead of this.
Never owned a smaller knife from ESEE (just an ESEE-5 that I love) but this is a little underwhelming for the price point. If I was going to buy another smaller blade from them, I’d probably just go with an ESEE-3 or Izula.
I love the Izula II for a small knife, I wish they had made it a bit more different because it's hard to justify the price on steel alone to anyone who already has it.
Izula 2 hm?
Honestly that's how I see it. It has the slicer height of the Sencillo but the Sencillo is basically what Jeff Randall wanted the Izula II to be originally.
My dealings with Toor CS were positive. I had to send my Merchant 2.0 in for repair when my detent ball fell out, pretty sure the Outdoor supply shop sold me a well fondled floor model. The guys at Toor fixed it up sent it back and it was like a whole new knife when I got it just glassy smooth! Way better then my experience with TRM who sent my Atom back with a note saying the problem of early/failing lockup was an over lubing problem on my part. Well i have not done anything since i got it back and the lock still fails when slow rolled open and the knife was purchased direct from TRM.
It feels like it's hit or miss but way better than the old days. They have complaints out the backside but the work they do, do, is solid.
I like my Esee knives too, but for what they’re trying to do, it doesn’t beat the M1 backpacker/caper. Thanks for the review
I really need to get my hands on an M1 because I've been told White River made these sheaths for Toor/ESEE and I've never heard of an issue with their in house knives.
@@WeFightTheDark yeah I don’t have a sheath problem with my M1 like the video, for sure. Or any of my esees, for that matter.
@@WeFightTheDark The M1 sheath and I think most White River sheaths have the adjustable slider screw which means you pick how much retention you have. The M1 as a knife is a real surprise though, deceptively ergonomic, and drops down surprisingly thin BTE, I like mine much more than expected
See, that's what I thought! Really nifty they add a tensioner.
Agree with you 100%…!
