Update on projects that are going on at The Shed
I think you gotta get the groundhog back. He'd be a good mascot
You know Tracy can't stand that groundhog!
question on the rear wheel where is the speed sensor at
@@kevinchang522 I think it’s on the chain wheel not on rear wheel. There’s like a little thing covering the top of the chain wheel. It looks like some kind of inductive pick up. I can look when I get home and tell you better cause I’m just going off memory right now, but I had the rear wheel off and there was no speed sensor on it.
@theshedMTB is it or do you think it's the little black piece by the presta valve. if you could let me know would be great I'm trying go 29 rear
@ I hope not I took that off! I thought it was just supporting the Presda valve during shipping! if that’s what it is, I don’t know what would be picking the signal up. There’s no wires coming out of the rear triangle. You may be right I just don’t know!
@@kevinchang522 I guess I’ll have to bolt that back on and see if it makes a difference
@theshedMTB hey yea that little black piece is the speed sensor for the wheel I just look up online you should put it back on if you took it off
I think correctly torquing it won’t mess it up
@@augustmousel it makes no difference how much it’s torqued down They put the little notches in the aluminum ones. At least once a year I’m changing a hub on my regular bikes.
dork disc off?
@@ummidkasksomeoneelse yeah, im talking it off!
Steel is real
That's what I'm hoping for!
Killer intro and outro song, haha. Thanks for rockin my tunes! I'm with you, I was totally a hater for e-bikes until my neighbor got one and I tried it out. I imagined it being more like one of those 70s Honda Mopeds with the pedals but pedal assist is a whole different thing. You still have to work for it while riding, you just get a little extra boost that can help you get up hills and ride longer without killing yourself. If I was an athlete I probably wouldn't ride an e-bike but just for a casual rider that gets out on the trail occasionally it really made the more challenging terrain in Wales accessible for me. Glad you are digging the new bike and look forward to seeing how you customize it and get the most bang for your buck!
@@spacesinbetweenproductions still hoping you can make it to Trexall! I don’t know how much customizing I’m gonna do the bikes pretty set up. But I guess I will wind up doing some little things!
Feel the weight on mine too, mine's 55lb and transferring weight into turns is sluggish: it's not twitchy
@@the_blair_bike_project toward the end I was getting used to it and everything was working pretty good. I’m 6 foot tall and 225 pounds so I generally can throw a bike around pretty easy but I’m used to 30 pound bikes, not 50 pound bikes!
Glad you made it! I was listening and initially didn't sound positive, then you had that pedal strike. What is the crank arm length? Level 1 on my bike (VVolt sirius) merely compensates for the added weight/resistance.
@@the_blair_bike_project they are 165mm crank arms. I think i hit a stump. Whatever it is, I hit really hard. I really thought I broke something but it didn’t.
Glad you got your bike. I still will say you get what you pay for.. and i know your LBS will skip all these 'shipping problems' you would have buying from online sources.. money well spent buying local in my honest opinion. Good luck with it!
@@ChristopherLee-g5u it was not cheap by any standard! The only way i could get this bike was online. Ive said it before, for most people the best way definitely is to buy from your local bike shop, i just like what I like though!
NEW BIKE DAY!!!!!!!
@@yardsalecycles didn’t really go smoothly but, in the end, I guess that’s what it was !
Glad you got the e-bike after all that shipping drama. I feel like the last mile delivery companies kind of do whatever they want. You looked like you were going rally fast downhill. Some local bike shops don’t work on these yet. Do you feel comfortable repairing an e-bike? Curious
@@OutDehExplorer other than the motor and the battery the same as any other mountain bike, I’m not afraid of working on it at all! If there is an issue with the motor, you’re basically sending it back to the manufacturer to be worked on. There’s nothing you really can do to it at home.
Yes you could do all that,...or you could make a simple 1 1/4 " L bracket, mark your centerline, drill your two holes and bolt it up . Probably ten minutes work all up !
@@maakatipa4613 it wouldnt match the contour of the fender and would distort the fender when you bolted it together. Not to mention it wouldn’t look good . Big part of this stuff IS to put in the effort , spend the time to make it look like someone cared about the smaller details. If it’s a delivery truck or a beater work car, sure, do whatever. But-a custom build is just that.
Almost had it
Umm,yeah, not really! Shes way better at it now though!
Happy Anniversary!!! i really like those hubs color pop . can't wait to see the build
@@yardsalecycles thanks! Not sure how much of the build I'm actually going to show but I'm sure the bike will show up again on an episode even if it's just after it's put together
What trail route do you recommend at Mercer? I was just looking at that map and thought about just hitting the Blue trail for a short ride, but it looks like the trail just ends in the woods and the only way back is to double back?
@@RK-kn1ud so I usually go from the east parking lot and I head out on the paved part. I go over a little bridge and then up the hill a little bit and there’s an entrance to a red trail on the right. I follow that trail around until it comes out on the main parking lot and then I go back into the woods goes to another parking lot and I follow the paved trail to the right all the way around until I go in on what I think is a yellow trail. It’s kinda hard to describe because everything is not that easy to describe. So if you go from the east parking lot and take the red trail completely right away before the bridge off to the right I think that turns into the blue trail and It’s not a complete loop you almost have to go out into a neighborhood and ride around on the road back into the parking lot. if you’re only gonna do a short ride you can go to the main parking lot. It’ll be like where the they have gazebos and stuff overlooking the water. You could follow that paved trail across the little bridge and then state at the right and follow that pave trail for a little bit until you start coming up the hill and then on the right there’ll be a fallen tree that you could turn into the woods there I think that’s the start of the yellow trail, but I’m not sure ,but you could follow that around and it’ll eventually loop if you keep following it back to the main parking Lot. if you do the loop that I’m thinking of from the main parking lot it’s like 5 miles if you go from the east parking lot it winds up being about 8 miles
@@theshedMTB Thanks! I totally get what you're saying. Gonna check it out tomorrow.
@@RK-kn1ud if I didn’t have to work, I’d be there with you!
@RK-kn1ud so I hope I didn't get you too lost I went out there and I had all the colors wrong! The directions were right but it looks like it's actually a continuation of the Red Trail were you going off of the pave Trail and then there is some yellow in the middle there depending on which way you go but most of it was red .The thing is I've been riding there a long time and I really don't look at the trail markers too much, sorry!
@@theshedMTB It's all good! I actually didn't make it out there because something came up. Gonna go the next time the wife has off from work though.
I own all the go pros not the 13 yet I use all mine. I use other cameras as well. The 11 is nice. I use my old 3 4 5 6. And I just used my 8. Last night on a video. I use all mine even the number 2. I own the very first go pro which was a 35mm. I found a Poseidon x bike carbon forks used at a pawn shop I want to add drop bars. To make it a gravel bike. Nice build for the wife
@@Wannaridebikes Thanks for all the comments! My new 11 didnt work right so I returned it and have been using my gopro 3 I got 3 years ago for $50 used, i really can’t complain about it. So after owning all of them, is there one in particular you think was better than earlier versions say something that would be a minimum that I should buy? I know the rigid forks and drop bars are kind of a standard for people who consider a gravel bike. That’s why I use the air quotes when I call my bikes gravel bikes! It’s just that that’s how I used them. I use them for gravel!
Water bottle looks very nice! May need to look into the guitar pedals!

Just a little backstory to this video - I was in England for a wedding and was invited on this bike trip in Wales. GoPro does not do it justice as usual. It was somewhere around 3000 foot elevation climb. My battery went dead and I had a spare, but I was just not up to change it. Fascinating!, do you ever take scraps of the metal and use it for other stuff?
@@OutDehExplorer i’m always fabricating something! A big part of building ductwork is cutting out the pieces you need to have the least amount of leftover metal so the goal is not to have any actual scrap although obviously in a practical application that’s not possible
6:19 Likely due to overheating.
@@mtbboy1993 i think thats what’s going on
@@theshedMTB if its around 30c and on toon long 4 Session overheated, but my Hero 7 never overheated. But keep in mind a slow sd card might cause overheating and slow corrupted footage, and random crashes, shutdowns. I asked a shop for sd card for the session they said it would work, but was not the case, this is why I don't rush into buying things make sure to research. Make sure sd card is fast enough for the resolution, file size you need. But getting tha thsoulf not be hard. I use SanDisk Microsdxc Extreme Pro 128 GB, got two of those. I'm considering getting one for my smartphone too. They got 1tb version too but that's pricy. But for 4k footage v30 card is good, it's 200MB/s.
@@theshedMTB BTW hero 13 has arrived on the market. The stupid charger is no more, they bring back the old charger, but added magnetic cable attachment. Magnetic attachment on the camera, so can u clip it and pop it on. But everything is not on the market tin Norway yet. I need a camera for sub zero temps so any new camera will manage that cus of batteries. But all do well in the heat. Only small cameras can overheat like the session.
@@mtbboy1993 sounds great, but I have a GoPro three and no money!
@@theshedMTB I'm not rich, and look into things lots, so often suffer from paralysis by analysis. I wish Gopros weren't as pricy, but second hand market is a possibility. But has to be from a trusted seller.
Prefabricated ducts exist. But nice custom solutions exist.
@@mtbboy1993 you’re not buying prefab ducts for the things I do!
@@theshedMTB I bet there is still a big market for custom solutions. Not a subject I looked into. It would be annoying if one would need something that doesn't exist and nobody could make it. So great you do it. The prefabricated massive ducts are more for schools, offices.
@@mtbboy1993 it is getting harder and harder to find people to make custom stuff. Nobody’s really doing it anymore.
0:23 Nice you got a hydraulic press, I guess now you can swap steerer tubes and stanchions on forks.
No shop is complete until you have at least one leaking air fitting!
@@RK-kn1ud didn’t realize you could hear it!
@@theshedMTB Only initially...but we always just ignore it after a while! Unless it's bad enough to cycle the compressor every few minutes...then we fix it.
0:35 Mongoose Salvo 2 These bikes are also sold as Gravity by Basspro They are made by kinesis in Taiwan. Bikes direct also sells Gravity bikes. Pros: It seems like a ok bike, air fork, rebound damping, no plastic parts. Bearings, proper pivot design. low stand over height tapered head tube, and tru axle fork. Internal dropper post routing and dropper post straight seat tube, seems like long insertion depth. Between: Rear has quick release skewer, but the rear end is made for 12mm axle, so it only needs a cap or different RD hanger. But really they should've went for thru axle instead. The hubs seem to be Formula Hubs. Cons: 760mm handlebar on all sizes. Same chain stay length on all sizes, 450 that's quite big for the smaller sizes, but for the XL that's great. Internal routing
13:45 I guess compared to the new Deore M5100 & M6100 cassette this is likely not as good shifting wise, as the it has a better ramp and tooth profile. What you got there shifts as we well as the previous gen high end stuff, but now the high end stuff is same design as Deore M5100 11 speed & M6100 12 speed 11-51T cassettes, but the 46T version uses the previous ramp and tooth profile. So it isn't that this shifts bad, it's the new shifts smoother and quieter. But Sun Race will shift worse than all of mentioned, it was doable, but wasn't so as smooth as previous gen Shimano, and current gen is really nice. But weird Shimano mixes the design even in the same range, when going to different sizes. But here with Cues they went with the old design. My guess it's for cost savings.
I guess my biggest issue with the cuess isn't shifting cuz it seems to shift okay. I've gotten used to an 11 - 50 cassette, various aftermarket Brands usually but it looks like you need to use a cuess cassette with the rest of the cues parts and they're heavy and don't have the range I want
10:0 TIp: mount camera on top of the helmet for POV view, much more stable. But if mounted quite low it might tilt the helmet down a bit, you might feel the weight, but nothing major. But for what you shot here worked ok, as you were not riding on roots and were not turning lots, was mostly fine, apart from the noise. But the video quality was much worse than what ever you shot the walking shots on.
@@mtbboy1993 I have very basic stuff, GoPro three and my wife’s cell phone! I have been planning on trying the GoPro on my helmet. I think that would work better.
1:54 Tha'ts a fitting name.
I have Chris King Threadfit 30. I used one Alu spacer on the drive side behind the BB cup. That's not an issue, no silly plastic spacer, that's silly. a few shims on the crank spindle. I think it was 4 on my 2019 Geometron G1 with Race face atlas crank set, I had no such issues. This BB has think is nylon adapters which are already that thick, but also robust, so no need for extra spacers on the spindle, it came with thin shims to eliminate play. I think I had to buy the adapters separately. But the headset come over greased, but If I grease it too much grease comes out and seals eventually come off.
@@mtbboy1993 I think shims on a crank spindle is better than using the spacers on the bottom bracket itself ;for some reason I didn’t even know they existed before!
Wow, there are Bicycles at Dick's for over 300 bucks? What do you think a fair price would be for that Mongoose?
@@OutDehExplorer I honestly don’t know enough about it to even say, I think you can get a pretty good Polygon for that kind of money with better components. Wolftick videos is going to do a review of it pretty soon. Maybe watch for that and you’ll get a better idea what it’s worth I think.
We have been testing and reviewing that $1900 Salvo 2. We will probably be releasing the Initial Impressions episode in the next few days, followed by a few Realtime Review episodes in the next week or so.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS looking foward to your review! Seems like a lot of money for what it looked like, but maybe you will surprise me!
I had the same issue on my commuter (cranks locked out on me one day). I brought a Shimano Hollowtech BB and that fixed the issue for me.
@@underbikedoverconfident1142 for me it was the weird combination of chain wheel adapter on crank set that was a little bit wide for the bottom bracket.

Never had that issue.. but like they say, you get what you pay for. also only use one spacer usually. Otherwise in my opinion thats not the proper crank for the bike if you need to have spacers stacked
I never ran into the situation I needed more than one spacer before either. But I'm not going to run plastic spacers even with just one anymore after that.
