Thank you for an excellent video on how to measure an equine for harness. There are a couple of placements of the measure that are unclear, however. Just as you showed fine points for measuring for the bridle, such as showing "too high" or "too low", this kind of clarification for some body measurements would be very helpful. 1. Length of body: The "point of hip" is unclear. How does one determine it? There appears to be a smooth curve on the back of the leg. Is there a bone or joint that one can feel for, or a muscle definition by which one finds it? Here is one place that a "too high/low" comparison would be helpful. 2. The measurement for collar is the most critical and difficult. "Top of Neck" and "bottom of neck" is still a little unclear. If nthere is a clear break from neck to chest, perhaps that is easy to see but is there a way to judge the end of the throat? More difficult is where on the top of the neck. Just forward of the withers? With all the mane standing on your model pony, it is really hard to see. Do you want to be just above the shoulder bone or further forward? It would make the video a touch longer but it would be well worth it for the sake of clarity. Thank you.

Could you please do a video on fitting the size of a cart to the size of a pony i.e. the right sized cart for a mini and distance behind the ponies bum to the carriage or swingle bar which ever protrudes the closest to the horse, how to determin the correct length of shafts either to the shoulder or to the girth (marathon shafts) height of wheels and overall aesthetics to consider I.e. driver not perched so high they loom over a small pony etc. Thanks. Really enjoy your videos but noticed the the right cart for the right pony has not really been covered. And nowhere has it been mentioned how close to have your cart to the pony for general pleasure driving. Thanks. S 🙂

That collar is not laying correctly or you ordered the wrong size (too small). It is too high on the base of the neck near the withers. Mini's are hard to fit because they are flatter at the base of the neck with a lack of prominent withers. That causes people to measure the wrong size.

A breeching and tail strap hold things in place

All the shadowing in the video has prevented me from being actually able to see you hooking the horse up.

no one can tell what you are doing so much yammering about things not to do and rules with no explanation as to where those rules come from-then when you finally do attach to the cart no one can see what you are doing-off to watch another video as this one was really annoyingly unhelpful.

Do you have to drive with blinkers? i’ve seen some people that do and some that don’t. Either one has very strong opinion about the use or lack of use of the blinkers.

good video,though the point of hip measurement for breeching is from point of shoulder to point of hip at 90%, you did the length of the horse quite correct but called the point of buttock," back of hip" which it isnt in measuring terms especially for rug measurements. Please don't take offence,i have lots of measurements given to me and have to check and double check from my diagram, the point of hip sticks out at the top and at 90% down to the point of shoulder to point of buttock line measurement line. Good video ,clear concise and accurate for people to use the info to send measurements, and , may be use them them to mix and match harness parts for a more bespoke fit to their particular horse or pony. I make collars and harness and your measurement method was brilliant dont forget the measurement for the widest part of neck or base of neck, which ever. I have thumbs upped and subbed ,thanks ,do some more vids about making harness people would like i'm sure.

Nice clear demonstration. One thing though. You do not need adjust the lower part and cut and punch a new hole. If you just push the top strap forward and leave the lower strap in the hole the lower strap and buckle will move to the back of the horse and shorten the length. If you run out of holes on the top strap you may need to add one.

I'm really sure you can build it yourself. I did this 2 weeks ago thanks to the Woodglut plans.

I'm having a problem fitting my mattress to my headboard

My mini stands w/out me talking or doing anything. Horses respond to pressure & release not human speech they get desentiezed to words you said "stand still" while he was already standing still. If they move forward just stop them w/ the reins they'll learn to only move when you flick the reins. Thats what I do I don't use a whip or smack them w/ the reins I only flick them softly & that means forward.
