    I want to work on health this year…movement and food choices specifically!

    • @AnneliSchmidt
      @AnneliSchmidt 6 дней назад

      Those are fantastic areas to focus on, Tiffany! Movement and food choices truly have such a powerful impact on overall health-they’re foundational for both your physical and mental well-being. Even small changes in these areas can lead to noticeable improvements over time. For movement, consistency is key, so find activities you enjoy, whether it’s walking, yoga, dancing, or strength training-whatever feels good for you. As for food choices, prioritizing whole, nutrient-dense foods and making gradual swaps can really make a difference. Celebrate every step forward, no matter how small, because each one adds up and builds momentum. I’m excited for you, and I know you’ll see results that will inspire you to keep going! 💪💚

    I never really liked Vispipuuro😂 but I'm going to give it a go to share with family this Christmas. I remember my granny making it with plum jam, so there was often no need for extra sugar etc. She always got jam in a can, which doesn't exist here in Australia anymore but I'm going to give it a go with a non-chunky type of jam, hopefully plum if i can find some at the shops! My favourite dish is porkkanalatikka ❤ i love love love love it! Also going to give it a go for the family this year. Merry Christmas 🎄

    Thank you Anneli. My heritiage is half Norse, but I did not grow up with that influence. I love Scandinavian decor and design and would like to learn some of your traiditional cooking. I am a hardcore carnivore, but will make this salada for my kids without the herring. Love glass canned beets and roasted with orange. At Christmas most Canadians eat turkey and ham. I love salmon at Christmas, but will do a ham this year. Ham with brown sugar glazed pineapple is yummy. I also make cranberries. All poultry, beef, and ham are accompanied with cranberries. Just heard you are in Canada. That's awesome. All the best with your channel. I love pasta too. Prefer a cream and parmesan sauce with smoked salmon added.

    • @AnneliSchmidt
      @AnneliSchmidt 27 дней назад

      Thank you, Elizabeth! Scandinavian style is just timeless, isn’t it? I’d love to share more traditional Finnish recipes, and I think it’s awesome that you’re planning to make the salad for your kids (minus the herring 😂). Beets roasted with orange sounds sounds really good. I love beets! Your Christmas meal plans sound like such a feast! Ham with brown sugar and pineapple is such a classic combination, and cranberries with everything? Salmon at Christmas is very Finnish, too-it’s so interesting how holiday food traditions can overlap. I’m plant-based myself, but I always encourage everyone to celebrate with what feels special and comforting to them. And cream and parmesan sauce with smoked salmon? Anything with a cream sauce is delicious! Yes, I’m in Canada-it’s such a small world! I hope you and your family have the most wonderful Christmas season filled with delicious food and special moments. 💕 Are you in Canada as well?

    This was so much fun to watch. We have always had a Swedish meal on Christmas Eve and day, and still do to this day. I for one don't care for the fish though, but many do like it. We make everything from scratch, but living in a Swedish town, we can easily get things from little shops for those that don't know how to make it. I had not heard of your Rosolli, and it looks good. I think I will give it a go when it's warm outside in place of potato salad. Looks really good, and I like how you added the beet juice. Working my way up to having it for Christmas. I think many of the foods from Sweden, Norway, and Finland are sort of the same foods, or very close. May be the names are different, but same food. What do you make that they don't? My favorite is the mashed Rutabaga, with mashed potato. I add heavy cream, butter, salt and pepper. I do ham (raw) brine it,and then get all the salt off and bake it. There is another meat I do but know I won't say the right name, so won't try. the broth from that you dip Swedish Rye bread into it. So yummy. Also Swedish meat Balls with a great sauce. I love to make the meal. Yes rice puddingis served too. I am sure I forgot some of the things I make, but have never had a Christmas with out doing it. I am now 77 years young! Love from Western, N.Y. Merry Christmas and a Blessed, and healthy New Year 2025!

      Thank you for watching the replay and the lovely comment! I love Christmas Eve dinner. Now that my parents are gone its a smaller version for us with my kids. But, I love the coziness of it. When I was young we always had ham Christmas Eve and all the casseroles - rutabaga (turnip), carrot and potato. Of course we had the Rosolli except we called it sillisaalatti (which means herring salad). Silli means herring. I had never even heard the name Rosolli. I think different parts of Finland may use different names. I'm not sure what all the differences are in the Nordic countries Christmas meals. I do know in Finland we also sometimes had a fish dish ( which I didn't like), some families have the meatballs and lingonberry sauce and in Finland they are called Finnish meatballs 😀 We also had rye bread. I have fun making videos so if you'd like to see something particular please let me know. I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and health and happiness for the New Year also!

    My family uses traditional Holiday recipes passed down to Grandmama, then to us and now to her great grandchildren. There is always a Turkey, Tamales the filling was beef and pork in a rich red chili sauce served with Spanish Rice, and refried beans. Some of the desserts were Capirotada Mexican bread pudding, Arroz con leche Mexican Rice pudding and Pastel de Albaricoque y Piña an Apricot, Pineapple pie and the apricots came from her trees. When these recipes are made just right it brings me right back to standing on a chair watching, very little thing Grandmama was doing. Happy Holidays!

    Happy to have found your channel :) I did unfortunately miss out on your live stream, but I'm on the other side of the globe so probably wouldn't have been able to follow along anyway. Growing up with a Finnish mother we had lots of traditional Finnish dishes for Christmas. Turnip casserole is still my favorite and I make it every Christmas. Hi and I'm so happy you found the channel! Yes, the turnip casserole or lanttulaatikko is one of my favourites too! This rosolli is exactly as my mom made it and how I grew up eating it minus the herring. I think you'll love it! What part of the world are you in?

      I actually don't even remember how my mother made it. My grandmother became vegan some time after the war (early 1950 maybe) but I don't remember if she made a vegan version although she probably did. I live in Sweden.

Next time I'm in Finland my sister and I want to visit. We have family there we haven't met from my dad's side. Have a wonderful Christmas!

    What is rosolli, and how is it traditionally made? Rosolli is a traditional Finnish Christmas salad that’s as beautiful as delicious! It’s made with a mix of diced beets, potatoes, carrots, apples and onions. It can be served with a tangy dressing. The dish often includes tiny bits of pickled herring, but many people-myself included-enjoy a vegetarian version by leaving the herring out. It’s a refreshing, vibrant salad that brings colour and flavour to the Christmas table. Do you celebrate Christmas with a traditional dish like this? Or would you make rosolli for a festive touch? Let me know below-I’d love to hear about your holiday traditions! 💬✨

    This was a really nice video! I tend to do the gratitude practice of writing down three things at the end of the night (because I know research shows it's effective for increasing life satisfaction, etc.) but I also sit with my family and we all discuss what we're grateful for at the end of each day, and I really feel it when we do that. I definitely want to carry that into the new year. Also, I love how you measure the effectiveness of your workouts in being able to lift heavier weights more than just looking different. I'm going to carry that with me into the new year. Thanks for sharing!

      Thank you for watching the video! That's a very nice thing to do with your family, discussing what each one is grateful for - I love that. Much of the time we are too rushed to put the effort into a moment like that. Yes, as I've gotten older and I don't see the "immediate" results physically of working out like I used to 😉, I can appreciate that I am making forward strides because I can feel the strength, and feeling stronger is a really great motivator!

There’s definitely something special about that homebody, reflective lifestyle, but it’s always great to step out of our comfort zones a little, too. Cheers to ending the year strong and stepping into 2025 with purpose! Wishing you all the best from Vancouver! 💙✨

    Oh my goodness, Anneli. So reminiscent of our childhood. I loved seeing that stack of lettuja, you may remember that I have a lettu pan it doesn’t get used that often, except for when Bryson comes over. I chuckled at seeing the sign in Norwegian for “welcome”. I’ve mentioned the other Nordic countries are similar to each other, “wilkommen” I think is how it’s spelled in Swedish. Thanks for the trip down memory lane! 💚🌲

    This dessert sounds lovely, thank you for sharing it with us. When I was a kid my mom and grandma used to make an Easter soup that my great grandmother used to make. The soup was traditionally eaten for breakfast. I’ve never seen a recipe exactly like hers so I don’t know if it was traditional in the area my great grandmother came from, or if it was an Americanized version of the soup based on what they could get here. To make the soup you start by cooking a kielbasa in water and reserving the liquid. To the liquid you add vinegar and milk or cream. Pour that into individual bowls and to each bowl add sliced kielbasa, a sliced hard boiled egg, and a spoonful of horseradish made with beet juice. The white of the broth combined with the yellow of the egg yolk and the pink of the horseradish was just beautiful as it swirled in the bowl while eating. Eventually the colors blended and turned a sort of coral color. The soup was delicious, there is nothing like it! I try to recreate it but I know I’m missing something. It’s good but never as good as my mom and grandma made.

      Thank you so much for watching my video. It's a simple recipe that for some reason I've never made and I used to eat it all the time as a child. The soup from your great grandmother sounds so interesting! Where did she come from? So many old traditional recipes have morphed slightly over the years and, you're right based on what is available. Anything with beets is so delicious 😁!

    Hello from Finland, in our family we eat vispipuuro or puolukkapuuro regularly. My children love it too. I usually wait until puuro has cooled little bit, because it whiskes more easily and i whisk it a lot, its like cloud so totally smooth texture. I like to put more lingonberries for the sharper flavour and colour, topping with caster sugar and cold milk!

      Vispipuuro reminds me of its cousin ruismarjapuuro which I've made myself and which you can probably recall as well. In my opinion, that's just awesome and with a bit (or a lot?) of cream it's divine. It's like the civilized version of mämmi 😀 I can buy it here but obviously it tastes a whole lot better when you make it yourself.
