Richard and Robert Robinson, The Robinson Twins
США
Добавлен 20 ноя 2011
We are The Robinson Twins, devoted to Earth adventures and environmental protection. We produce videos, in standard, high and ultra-high definition, photographs, articles, and books promoting understanding and enjoying National Parks, Nature and natural and human history, including indigenous cultures. There's a show on TV about visiting National Parks where the hosts say they've been buddies for years, but we've been buddies since we were in utero. Robert volunteered at Natural Bridges National Monument, in Utah, and has been very interested in natural arches and rock spans ever since. Richard worked on the Toiyabe National Forests trail crew for one season, moving rocks and cutting fallen trees off the trail as he backpacked through the wilderness area that is now known as the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness. We have a photo gallery at robinsontwins.blogspot.com.
Annular Eclipse at Natural Bridges National Monument, Utah, October 14, 2023
When Bob Robinson found out that the path of the annular solar eclipse on October 14, 2023 was going to pass over Natural Bridges National Monument in Utah, he decided that that's where he wanted to see the eclipse from. This video details his experience watching the eclipse from under Sipapu Natural Bridge, the first of the three natural bridges along the park's scenic loop drive. It's the 13th largest natural bridge in the world.
While Bob watched the annular solar eclipse at Natural Bridges National Monument in Utah, Rick watched the eclipse at Crater Lake National Park in Oregon. You can see his video about that event at ruclips.net/video/WidBsTNqU7k/видео.html

Rattlesnake encounter in Joshua Tree National Park, Callifornia
Просмотров 35Месяц назад
During our last hike of the 2024 Fall Arch Rally of the Natural Arch and Bridge Society, we were exploring the northeast corner of Joshua Tree National Park in California, when Rick stumbled upon a Western Mojave Rattlesnake. At first, he thought he was looking at a stick or a fracture in the rock filled with dirt. But when he realized what it was, he spoke "rattlesnake" and lifted his camera, ...
2022 Fall Arch Rally Day 7 Brimstone and Scorpion Arches, Grand Staircase-Escalante NM, Utah

Bob Robinson describes the natural arches he hiked to on Day 7 of the 2022 Fall Arch Rally conducted by the Natural Arch and Bridge Society. The rally was centered around the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in Utah. The focus of the hike were the Brimstone and Scorpion Arches, but our group found a significant natural arch during our hike between the two named arches. To learn more ...

Aurora Borealis near Fairbanks, Alaska
Просмотров 284Месяц назад
In September 2024, Bob Robinson got a chance to go to Alaska to see the aurora borealis, aka the northern lights. The skies were overcast most of the time he was there, but the second and third nights cleared up enough to treat him to a spectacular show. The northern lights are caused by high energy particles streaming from the sun that strikes the magnetosphere of earth. The magnetic field lin...
Comet C/2023 A3 at Morro Rock, California
Просмотров 322 месяца назад
Rick, of the Robinson Twins, heard about the Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan/Atlas) and decided he wanted to photograph it from the California coast. The place he chose was Morro Bay. It has a volcanic plug, called Morro Rock, right on the coastline. His goal was to photograph the comet and Morro Rock together. After two days of foggy conditions, his effort worked out on the third evening.

California Gulls bathe in Morro Creek along the California coast. Birds bathe to clear their feathers of dead skin, old feathers, parasites, and salt. Rick was at Morro Bay to view the comet in October, 2024. During the day, he checked out the beach and the local wildlife. Our video about the comet will be coming soon.
Mobius Arch, Alabama Hills, California
Просмотров 563 месяца назад
Mobius Arch is the most famous natural arch in the Alabama Hills, near Lone Pine, California. The granite in this area is similar to that of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, but it's been chemically weathered such that it forms natural arches more readily. The are more than 100 natural arches in this small area. Because it is administered by the Bureau of Land Management, the rules aren't as s...

Bob hiked to the Golden Cathedral Pothole Arches on Day 6 of the 2022 Fall Arch Rally in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Utah. The 4.6 mile hike started at the Egypt Trailhead and took us past the South Fence Canyon Arch as we descended toward the Escalante River. After much wading through the river, we entered Neon Canyon and reached the Golden Cathedral Pothole Arches in an a...

Its span is 225 feet and its height is 160 feet. Join Bob Robinson as he hikes with other NABS members across open desert to slot bouldering and wading through Coyote...
Does Alamere Falls produce moonbows? Point Reyes National Seashore, California .
Просмотров 435 месяцев назад
We've photographed moonbows in Yosemite Falls in Yosemite Valley for many years now and decided to try going to Point Reyes National Seashore, forty miles north of San Francisco to see if Alamere Falls would also produce moonbows. In spite of not seeing a moonbow in Alamere Falls during this mid-summer visit, we still think this waterfall is a good candidate. We'll go back in the spring during ...
Chasing Yosemite Moonbows June 2024

We explore the moonbow at Yosemite Falls from 3 different perspectives as predicted by Brian Hawkins at yosemitemoonbow.com. We also ad-lib to get some of the best moonbow photos we can. All of the photos and videos were taken at night, except for our introduction. We used long exposures of 20 seconds or more to capture the colors in the moonbow. Our own eyes can't see the colors, but the camer...

He certainly looks comfortable around people. I wonder if they get some food from the campers? He seemed to be waiting for a handout from you.
We didn't feed him but he may have gotten something to eat earlier from other people. He was pretty tame though, just hanging out on the picnic table.
Wow. That's so pretty!
Very interesting, I came across a photo of the chuckwalla and wanted to learn more about them and see them operate, and you twins did not disappoint me. New subbie! Look forward to more videos.
Love a good thunderstorm!
I always stop in Alabama Hills when I'm near! Thanks for the video. To anyone wanting to camp in the area, BLM has designated sites now. It is worth it to pre-save the allowed spots on Google Maps to make finding one easier when you're in the area.
Nice photos. Also a good documentation of your trip so others can do similar trip planning.
Wow! The cathedral is very impressive. Looks like you had to do a lot of wading. Is autumn the best season to go? I wonder if there a drier time of year that a person could do this hike.
I'm guessing that fall is the best time. The summer can be very hot there and I think they get monsoonal thunderstorms, which leads to flash flooding. Because there's so much exposed sandstone in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, a lot of the trails tend to settle into watercourses at the bottom of canyons to get to any branching canyons.
Nice view of the arch from all angles. I was surprised by how narrow and delicate it looks. Thanks for sharing your trip with us.
Yeah, it actually looked massive when I approached it, but when I was standing under it looking up, it appeared to be really narrow.
The photos and upload pure gold! Thanx and happy trails.
Glad you like them!
Wow, such a beautiful place.
Perfect place for some aerial drone footage.
Why didn't they collapse when they were under water?
They are collapsing from wave action. All the material holding them together eventually erodes away, then they do collapse. The whole shoreline is covered in disk-shaped rocks that came from the columns.
Thanks!
hermoso lugar.
Way to track up the beauty of this beautiful and peaceful area. You make it impossible to capture on camera the beauty of this place. Typical of a group of people who don’t know how to safeguard a treasure like this.
So piling ain’t gonna work then😂😂🙏🙏🪬🪬💎💎🥃🥃🇬🇧🇬🇧
With all those people that feature will v soon be eroded.
All the people you see in this video were part of an organized arch rally hike. The Cosmic Ashtray usually gets far fewer visitors at one time.
Dude Great video 😮
Glad you liked it!
Thank you for sharing look forward to one day making that trip to see how impressive nature can be
Anything near the San Andreas Fault carries a higher degree of interest, I think, especially if there are clear signs of its presence in the ground.
Thank you for this video. I travel via RUclips now. There were several other times when the steam was really much darker but @16:03 it's dark and I'm wondering if you know why or if it was ever explained why geysers throw out dark steam? I also realize this is a an older video! Just hoping someone knows. Thanks
It depends how thick the steam column gets and what direction the sunlight is coming from. It's also possible for some bits of rock to get mixed into the stream. We did see a couple of good-sized rocks get thrown up into the air by the geyser.
Hi guys, I meet you while on "Manly Lake" kayaking in Death Valley which was shut down the following week so we just made it! Enjoyed the vid!
Yeah, that was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We timed it just right. Great weather, just before the high winds hit. Glad you enjoyed our video.

Hopefully no cigarette butts found!
Good one! Nope it was clean.
We think it looks more like an incense cone!
25 ft concrete colvert ,could bring water from the Pacific,as the water evaporated ,it would make the Colo basin greener raising the level of Lake Meade.Too bad the residents of Ca NM and Az are such water wasters. They need to pull up lawns which are a huge waste of water in the desert. Such a poor governing job done by the United States.
Water from the Pacific isn't going to make anything greener. You do know it's salt water, right?
Other than a kayak or canoe, what kind of gear would be useful to have out there? I’m bringing my young daughter tomorrow and we’re going to attempt to sail Lake Manley.
How much of a keel does your boat have? We could always touch the bottom with our canoe paddles. There were a lot of SUPs out on the water. That seems like the best choice for shallow water. It's also very salty water. 8 times saltier than the ocean. You'll want to rinse everything off when you're done.
@@richardandrobertrobinsonth4763 I bought that cheap inflatable kayak on Amazon. It has a keel but you don’t have to install it.
That should work. Even if you tip over, all you have to do is stand up to recover.
@@richardandrobertrobinsonth4763 apparently they just closed the lake to boating! :(
Yeah, I saw that headline this evening. The lake is almost 6 miles across and about 10 miles north to south, but it's very shallow. Maybe a little more than two feet at the deepest. So when it dries up, the shoreline will retreat quickly. Maybe another storm will establish it again in the next month. We'll just have to keep checking.
Wow, amazing. Thanks for the info and video of boating on this shallow lake.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Next time I'm in Yellowstone I will have to photograph Lower Falls at night during a full moon phase. Getting the sun to produce a rainbow in the fall's mist requires to be in position at a certain time of day... such as 10:30am. I would guess the angle of the moonlight and camera position have to be lined up correctly to see the moonbow.
Did you mean Yellowstone or Yosemite? If you meant Yosemite, you can go to yosemitemoonbow.com and view predictions for when the moonbow should start and end, assuming no clouds. If you meant Yellowstone, you'll have to experiment with positions and times. We have seen rainbows from the brink looking down at the waterfall during the day.
Amazing ❤
Thank you for sharing your experience at Devil's Garden. I hope to drive there this summer. What was the road like when you left the parking lot? Would a AWD SUV be able to manage the road when wet?
In dry weather, passenger cars can get to the Devils Garden easily enough. Wet weather might make the drive a little more challenging. Once you turn off the highway, the road is dirt all the way to the turnoff for the Devils Garden and beyond. AWD SUVs should be fine.
Thank you!@@richardandrobertrobinsonth4763
Thanks for sharing! What time of day is best for photography? It is an incredible natural feature! BEAUTIFUL.
On sunny days, it will always have a shadowed side and a bright side. It's probably best to go when there's some overcast to even out the lighting.
Wow! Gotta go!
Interesting and unique find on the trail. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it
Just found your channel. Wonderful informative video. Thanks for sharing the adventure. Take care.
Thanks, you too!
Will do thanks.

Thank you for addressing the myth that lightning never strikes twice in the same place. Lightning is very unpredictable and we all need to stay safe during severe weather.
Since I witnessed the 3 lightning strikes personally, I knew that one strike idea was a myth. So I wanted to clear that up.
While it would be nice to see it restored for historical and accessibility reasons, it's so special to have a quiet spot right in the heart of the Valley. It feels like a backstage pass. The boulder field is a perfect pre-filter so folks don't wander in and then get in over their heads once they've committed. "The Wall" is the worst part, but if you make it through the boulders, you can probably manage it.
I want to go to this point
It's a difficult and steep hike with several sections of the trail unrecognizable, but it was a favorite of John Muir and Ansel Adams. We think the Park Service should look into restoring this trail to make if safer.
Well done, Robinsons! First timelapse of moonbow at Shoshone that I’ve heard of!
My girlfriend and I spoke with you that day on the lookout and I'm so glad you found one! They are beautiful falls and the bow was a spectacle. Keep it up and happy hunting!
Thanks for the comment. A couple of days after we documented the moonbow in Shoshone Falls, we went to Upper Mesa Falls in eastern Idaho to document the moonbow in it and succeeded. We'll be posting that timelapse soon.
I love when the RUclips algorithm recommends me channels like yours. Was just at Browns campground last week, a local was telling me about these formations. Subbed! Have a blessed day, Robinsons!
We stayed at McGee Creek Campground. You can see the formations from the highway if you know where to stop.
Wow what a view
I hiked up there in 1978. I could see a trail off the Vernal falls trail, so with a couple of friends, we got to the trail and followed it out to Sierra Point.
So many fascinating places on this earth!
I've read that this column formation also can be found in New Mexico, but as far as I know that's it for the US.
Fascinating and educational. Thanks for sharing your adventure!
We try to provide some background information along with the Wow! factor.
what a great video!!!!
We love exploring and these columns became a must-see the moment we learned about their existence. Thanks!
P.S - I think you’d really enjoy the backpack to Jacob Hamblin Arch in Escalante as well as White Pockets in Vermillion Cliffs!!
I have no doubt that I would enjoy those places.
Wow Robert!!!! I haven’t been able to look at too much so far due to bad service out here in Valley of Fire but I am loving what I have seen!!! It was such a pleasure meeting you tonight out at the Fire Wave. Thank you for all of the ideas of places to go see. Your journeys are truly an inspiration! As I was driving back to camp I thought to myself: you remind me of Edward Abbey from Desert Solitaire! Working for the NPS and falling in love with the desert / nature / rocks spans 🔥 Thanks again! Happy Hiking! Maybe I’ll see you next winter/spring at the rally in Arizona!
You're very welcome. I hope to make it to all the rallies from now on and keep adding videos of the great arches we get to see.
Rad video, good tips on how to
Glad you liked it!
Very well done. Clear, definitive account of the trail. 💯
