    I think this is the time to also teach your children about toxic ingredients because they are the next generation, and companies will have no choice but to cater for their needs in order to run a successful business. Its also a minefield because its not just about hair, as you have to look at diet, age, hormones, medications etc too until you find the culprit. Thankfully you've done most of the work in presenting the issues and its up to us to reference/check for ourselves to get it fully lodged in our minds. Once you get familiar with the good and bad, it gets easier.

    • @basiqueopulence888
      @basiqueopulence888 7 дней назад

      greetings & thank you for chiming in! yes yes, teaching the next generation how to be discerning and healthy consumers is imperative to protecting their health and shifting the way brands manufacture products. Diet is the largest component in preventing illness because what we feed our bodies either allows it to regenerate cells and eliminate toxins or makes it more vulnerable to toxins and disease. Diet can also keep our hormones balanced and prevent the need for medication entirely. So while it's ideal that we avoid every toxic thing, making sure we have a health supportive diet is key to allowing the body to thrive in toxic environments.

      Greetings, sorry to hear about your issues with the henna and herbs and powders. I do know ingredient quality and allergies have to be considered even when products are all natural or synthetic. There are a lot of natural powders and henna products that have fillers, dyes and things that don't belong as well giving truly natural varieties a bad name. Do continue to be careful with your choices and take great care of your hair & health!

    Can using hair products that contain protein weekly cause damage to the hair? A few months ago I learned about protein overload and I had symptoms of protein overload. The hair products that I was using consistently had protein, so now I avoid hair products with protein and noticed a difference in my hair.

    • @basiqueopulence888
      @basiqueopulence888 7 дней назад

      I'm glad you noticed a change in your hair and switched out your products before major damage occurred. Yes, protein use when it is not needed can cause irreparable damage to hair so it is important to use protein at the guidance of a professional based on your hair characteristics. This trend of putting protein in styling products is a huge mistake by brands & cosmetic chemists who clearly don't understand the function of protein in hair or have miscalculated the consumers understanding of when they need it. I have a video called natural hair care is easy where I go more in depth about who does and does not need protein. I think that some (but not all) people put their hair into "protective styles" under the guise of hair health, but in reality, they just want to forget about their hair. Back-to-back box braids, 6 weeks at a time, all year long, without giving the hair even a DAY to breathe-- gives off "I don't wanna deal with my hair ever" vibes to me. Doing that all the time is not healthy. It's counter-protective, especially if you're using carcinogenic kanekalon.

    In my opinion, the curl typing chart/system is the first time that 4C hair got a shoutout and was consistently acknowledged. I think people continue to use that as a point of reference to describe their hair because it’s the only thing we initially utilized to teach each other about different hair types and patterns. Perhaps every now and then someone might refer to 4C hair as coily but for the most part with the typing system, I’ve seen it just referred to as curls. I could be wrong but I think it’s just a habit that people have. Unfortunately, since habits are tough to break and 4C coils have been referred to as curls for so long, it may take a while before those with coily hair actually begin to use that word all the time to more specifically identify their hair texture.

      greetings & thank you for chiming in. I do agree that more folks say their type 4c vs coily which all type 4 is and that using curls as a catch all has become a general norm. I think being purposeful about and visible with our terminology is key to making the shift. Hair identity crisis is real and it has robbed some of the joy of caring for our own hair. 💛

    the actress loren sharice's hair story just made me so sad. Granted, she came from the wave nouveau side, but it looked WAY healthier than whatever mess Gina and her raggedy friends put in her hair.

      Oh wow! Thank you for chiming in. I’m not familiar with this Loren Sharice but I do know wave nouveau is a type of permanent wave so if she had one of those and then a Gina curl after it’s essentially doing the same thing with different size rods and over processing the hair which is the main reason permanent waves in general are catastrophic for hair long term. The magic to control a liquid processing solution from touching the previously permed hair does not exist. What they expect people to believe is that they can retouch the new growth/ roots without the perm solution touching the rest of the hair on the rod. That’s like saying I’m going to rinse only your new growth and none of the other hair will get wet 🤦🏾‍♀️ that barrier cream they use to protect previously permed hair is not liquid proof and anything that is will break your hair off with it . Edit: I looked up Loren Sharice … yeah anyone with eyes can see her hair was thrashed 😢 limp thinning hair is not it.

    I have very defined silky coily hair some say it’s 4a some think it’s 4b like idc 🙄 ik it’s low porosity and easily defines with water 💧 it’s reflects light and look wavy when brushed back. But when I say curly ppl try to say that it’s not type 3 curls 😒 like FOH coils are just tighter curls duhh

    • @basiqueopulence888
      @basiqueopulence888 2 месяца назад

      Technically coils and curls are different and I do think it keeps things clear when we make the distinction. However so long as we’re giving the proper care for the characteristics of the hair all is well. So IF coils are just tight curls to you are curls large coils? My 4a acts silky when it’s clumped & hydrated but is too thick to brush down now the second I separate it kinks LOL

    I think many people are unaware that their hair is coily or what a coil even is. Curly ringlets is not a coil. But I see comments here saying that it is. I also see people saying that tightly curly hair is an s wave rather than a coil so these must be the folks that are scared to pick up their shed hair off the floor lol (like I've literally seen so many people online who hate their hair saying they hate and are scared of their type 4 shed hair). the pattern looks like an s curl cause it's clumped. take a singular strand of hair out add water and let it dry naturally and it will coil. Also a lot of the people that call their coily hair curly, turn around and say that wavy hair isn't curly so it's giving hypocritical (cause if a coil is just a tight curl then a wave is just a loose curl).

    • @basiqueopulence888
      @basiqueopulence888 2 месяца назад

      You’re absolutely right on many just not knowing the difference and using the curl word with a broad stroke. now that being afraid of your own shed hair?!?! That’s wild 😂 How on earth is a coil a tight curl but a wave not a loose curl? Well by that logic curls are large coils and I’m sticking to that! Can you imagine a plethora of large coil videos hitting these RUclips streets? I wonder how the curlies will feel having their identity changed because it sounds better to us! LOL

    Yes. thank you for mentioning the cinnabon hair. People act we don't exist or exist because of bad hair care. I call it carpet hair it grows in tight and dense, not up and out. we not as common as the youtube 4 c Whats great about it is that it doesn't tangle unless you comb and break the perfection of the cinnabon coil. lol. I NEVER comb my hair stretching it isnt healthy for it either, nor are afros

    Many people like the proximity in words it gives them to say curly, others are misinformed due to lack of media or community education I believe. Being biracial presenting (ambiguous) these days is ‘in’ so people will damage their hair to get it to look a certain way.
