    Thank you finally someone is speaking about this. All those big chops when the hair was long I think the hair was damaged and no one wanted to speak on it, talking about I'm starting over. Now it's all coming out. We vote by what we purchase and being an influencer is a hard job between telling the truth and your paycheck. Forgive me if I'm wrong,but I bought stuff that was reccomend and was the worst product ever.

Trying all these different hair products on your hair not knowing how the ingredients will affect it is something I strongly discouraged my clients who were considering becoming influencers from doing unless they were ok with eventually chopping the hair so you’re on to something there. 😉

    • @basiqueopulence888
      @basiqueopulence888  7 месяцев назад +4

      sorry to hear that. Generally speaking when the hair splits it’s because the cuticle is worn down or weakened in that area majority of the time this is caused by elasticity loss due to dryness preventing the hair from withstanding normal handling. What’s causing the dryness is usually lack of water or use of products that slowly erode the cuticle or both making the hair dry.

      @@basiqueopulence888People don't like being told the truth. I always laugh when people are praising all these marketers, sales agents whose job is to sell products by all means.
      Case in point; Cecred whom everybody is hyping right now is the same as brands that sell for 10 dollars and less (although, the formulation style will be different from one scientist to the next)
      I checked the ingredients list and I saw the regular functional ingredients used by everybody, especially in the first five (if you follow Chemists Corner, Wendy of Science-y Blog, Beauty Brain, Natural Haven, Incidecoder etc).

When I couldn’t go to the salon I was using cheap shampoo like Wella Balsam and Finesse that for sure wasn’t formulated for my mostly 4C, medium density hair and I would break out the blue Ultra Sheen hair grease and press it myself. Was even getting it dyed every now and then. But still had hair.

      You just sound protein sensitive. Aloe vera contains amino acids, coconut oil can penetrate the shaft and feel like a protein for some heads, and hydrolyzed proteins are, well, protein.
      There's lots of info on protein-moisture balance. The items you listed as problematic aren't inherently bad/toxic ingredients (my hair won't function without hydrolyzed protein). Again, you may just be sensitive to protein.

    • @basiqueopulence888
      @basiqueopulence888  6 месяцев назад +1

      greetings & thanks for chiming in. I’m wondering where this term protein sensitive started… it’s my position that there are many types and conditions of hair that simply don’t need protein at all. Amino acids in conscious incorporation is fine as the hair uptakes them differently.
      I’ve also noticed an uptick in protein styling products for no good reason. 🤦🏾‍♀️
      How did you come to learn your hair won’t function without hydrolyzed protein?
      There are very specific reasons I’ll use protein on a client - hyper elasticity and chemical or heat damage. Otherwise no mas ✋🏾
      My own hair only goes on a regular amino acid and protein diet when I bust out the chemical color. I’m medium strands throughout.

      @@basiqueopulence888 "How did you come to learn your hair won’t function without hydrolyzed protein?" Because I went a long time without it. Once I added it, my hair began to improve. Amino acids never yielded the same results. This has been the case for 10+ years.
      I say 'protein sensitivity' simply because that's the term I'm used to, but it's true that this isn't a real sensitivity - it's just hair that doesn't need much protein.

      oh wow! thank you for chiming in & I'm soo sorry to hear that. Our bodies can react to all sorts of harmful chemicals present in these hair (and other) products on first contact or as a result of a build up of toxins due to repeated low dose exposure. Your case is an example of exactly what I mean when I say the doctors training is limited and they are there to treat symptoms which is a good thing of course but them not even asking comprehensive questions to determine what could have caused the inflammation and shortness of breath is critical to identifying cause and implementing prevention measures. A lot of us also do not know what our hair needs. A lot of us are protein sensitive or need protein and do not know it. Some load our hair with "moisture" or oils but do not cleanse regularly like weekly or every two weeks max. Ingredients also matter of course try to go as natural as possible. A lot of products that are good for us usually don't go viral. Do your research or stick with the old school stuff. Less also is more. So many of these hair care products have strong fragrances in them, that God only knows what they use to create these fragrances with and just how incredibly toxic these fragrances are to peoples health overall. Also, so many hair care products today contain limonene, coumarin, and other ingredients within that realm that are irritating to my scalp like crazy. Also, sodium colorist is in so many hair care products till it’s ridiculous. That one ingredient dries my hair out so bd, till I refuse to even buy a hair care product that has it listed within it, no matter how many positive reviews it may get. I have endured having inflammation that would become so severe with my scalp and it didn’t matter whether it was from a brand that is promoting themselves as being natural or not, I have had allergic reactions from specific essential oils used in hair care products, and, I am so tired of people falsely promoting their products as being all natural, when it’s a total lie. I’ve dealt with issues to my skin and health from use of so many different hair care products, till it is beyond measure. And, YES, you are beyond 100% right about the U.S. having low standards when it comes to what is used in products, whether it be hair care products or just products in general. This is why, so many people are living off of tons of medications, because, so much of the stuff being sold within the U.S. is toxic to our health. I can’t urge people enough to better educate themselves in regards to whatever they put on the outside of their bodies, just as much as what they put inside of their bodies too.
    Thanks so much for taking the time to speak up and tell the truth. Because, in today’s world, that is so hard to come by. Much peace and blessings to you! ❤✌🏼❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

      thank you taking the time to leave a comment. Your experience is becoming more common as overexposure to allergens and toxins cause a build up of these things in our body systems and tissues increasing sensitivity and reactions. There are absolutely too many things in personal care products that exist to extend the shelf life and improve the texture or application of products at the expense of the health of the user. We can be allergic to all types of things the risk increases when scientists start isolating compounds from natural whole sources like limonene for example and putting it in products resulting in overexposure and a change in how the body interacts with it because it is no longer a part of the whole organism from which it came or just creating synthetic versions altogether which invariably contain health harming inclusions. I’ve included an extensive list of ingredients to avoid in hair products in my ebook to help us buy truly safe products and avoid harming our health in this way - synthetic fragrance and sodium chloride…actually all of the known chlorides are on the list. Have you undergone any type of detoxing to assist your body with reducing your toxin load? It hurts my heart that I even have to speak on this but the biggest part of why I went natural and became a cosmetologist to serve us was to improve our health and lead us away from harmful relaxers. Little did I know the sources of health harming substances in products would be soo much bigger than that 11yrs ago. So I’m here continuing the work via my product line, holistic health coaching & hair healing & content creation. Thank you for being here 💛

    What are your thoughts on bond builders? Is there one clean one you can recommend?

    • @basiqueopulence888
      @basiqueopulence888  7 месяцев назад +5

      Greetings 👋🏾 bond builders are relatively new to the cosmetology world in the last 10yrs or so and not independently studied much for efficacy. I could only locate one study after all this time. Those designed to reconnect the disulfide bonds 1) have not been proven to do so 2) could possibly but not conclusively work at a cuticle level rather than cortex on broken disulfide bonds which is an ambiguous assertion given the location of the disulfide bonds in the hair structure 3) are only effective IF they work on hair that has been chemically treated via coloring processes as these processes work at the disulfide bond level without causing a change of the broken bonds to a different bond type entirely -relaxing & perming - making them ineffective for this use as well despite the claims 4) contain some very concerning chemicals in the active ingredient used in plasticizing & as solvents (the original plex) 5) The ones claiming to repair peptide bonds are merely deconstructed protein treatments in bases I’ve yet to fully examine as there are many brands popping up claiming to perform these functions. 6) Hydrogen and salt bonds resolve on their own when the hair dries and returns to its natural ph so no bond repair products are necessary for those even though they exist! Just be sure your hair care products are ph balanced within the range of 3.5 - 5.5 7) Heat damage happens at the cortex level via melting of the actual internal keratin so bond builders are also not useful for this purpose. 8) Being that it isn’t proven the bond builder products are actually capable of repairing disulfide bonds I cannot confirm they can create new bonds either.
      I’d avoid them unless you have color related chemically damaged hair and are seeking some sort of Hail Mary that proven protein treatments can not resolve and always check the entire ingredients list before using any of these products which unfortunately most professionals don’t do! I consulted for the original plex in my early days circa 2016 being a master colorist specializing in natural texture and that was a very very eye opening phase of my career. Less is truly more when it comes to top tier natural hair care. Healthy hair doesn’t need all these extra harmful chemical laden things. If there is a bond builder product you are looking at just give me a link or a name and I can look into it specifically…there are truly soo many. I hope this helps 😉

      greetings queen & thank you for being here. It depends on the ingredients in the individual products as shea moisture has quite a few some formulated better than others. What I do know is all shea moisture products use refined shea butter vs whole unrefined which lends itself to leaving behind drying solvents and alcohols in the final product. I’d compare the ingredients in the products you’re thinking of using to my ingredients of concern list in my ebook to know exactly what you’re exposing yourself to. Most products ingredients can be found online so you can do that before purchasing. I also know Shea Moisture sold to I think Unilever several years ago so the ingredients may have changed. I used Shea Moisture in the very beginning of my journey and am selective about the products of theirs I may pick up if I've run out of my favs and just need something in a pinch as I'm aware they are now owned by one of the beauty conglomerates who put out low quality products in their other brands. I'm generally looking to do and be better in every way while buying from my people especially my hair and health care so when I become aware of things that better support them I'm on it.

    Its a myth to say that if you can't pronounce an ingredient then its not good, some of the most unpronounceable names have some of the best active ingredients to help you grow strong healthy hair. But I do know what you mean. People who use products need to take more accountability for their actions instead of blaming the manufacturers who sell it for money. The developer is there to make money and will use people to do so, and they only way they can be stopped is to 'vote with your feet and cash'. You'll soon find they will make something worthy of your pennies. Or maybe you should start to really make your own products after learning how to formulate stuff.
    I really enjoyed this video because you gave great food for thought so thank you.

Now you got me curious about this statement "Its a myth to say that if you can't pronounce an ingredient then its not good, some of the most unpronounceable names have some of the best active ingredients to help you grow strong healthy hair." so do share one ingredient with me that fits this claim my fellow myth slayer. I do know what you're getting at though and only generalized in a effort to get folks to start looking up ingredients as the most of the harmless ingredients are listed by their common names which are more recognizable and not their scientific names on the labels . W'e're definitely in a space in time where consumers have to be more conscious in their consumption to protect themselves from harm because no one else is going to do it. We absolutely do vote with our feet & cash! May more of us realize that and start voting for things that are truly supportive of our overall health. Thank you for being here.

I've not looked into how the alpha tocopherol is processed to know for sure there are no health concerns associated. My research on Behentrimonium Methosulfate aka BTMS has linked it with neurotoxicity, endocrine disruption, general and reproductive organ toxicity, and classified it as a known irritant and allergen so even though it forms a film on the hair, mitigates static and provides slip to products I'd eliminate it from formulations based on my own health standards.

      @CoilyDiaries for heat styling and damage concerns amino acid based protein treatments will be best as this allows the hair to build the protein it needs vs inserting formed protein like blocks into spaces where the protein core - cortex - had been damaged. Bond builders don’t perform this action. The standard protein treatments do work but are more temporary and can cause more rigidity in the hair than amino acid based treatments that actually allow the hair to repair itself. When heat damage has occurred two areas are effected - peptide & hydrogen bonds (bond builders are designed to work on disulfide bonds unless otherwise specified) and the cortex of the hair where the protein that gets damaged by high heat changing the structure lives.
      Happy to hear you found the ebook helpful. Helping naturals regiment be easy and safe was the overall intention. For non toxic heat protectants refer to the heat styling section of the ebook - I tell you what ingredient to look for in protectants. The more you know about ingredients the more you see how truly limited the safe options are 😢
      Maybe try just spelling the product name out or emailing the link to amena@basiqueopulence.com
