Hi, i need a mod for tree farm
Subscribed!
Time to sell alaska!
But what country is crazy enough to buy all that ice?
Ouch. A lot of self inflicted pain in this episode. I find it difficult to watch you burn over 25% of your income for years while you build steel mills. You can build 8 bureaucracies in the time it takes to build one mill and lift 40K peasants up instead of 5K.
Oh yes, this is where I overreached and learned better the lessons about pacing things. Later episodes get better with production.
I'll be frank. I really hate whatever game Wiz (game director) is working on for this exact reason (players need mods to fix stuff) and unfortunately, he works on Vic3. He heavily relies on the community to fix the mess that he as a game director created. When he was removed from Stellaris, it was like a breath of fresh air. The game really shined and became a beacon of light with the addition of the second team, fixing all the mess he had created in previous DLCs/updates. It's unbelievable how many mods in your list are just bug/event/political interaction fixes. Hope that man is removed from the company since this is beyond ridiculous. May he -mess shit- find peace in other gaming studio as game director.
I agree, there are quite a few mods that fix things - which should already be fixed. If Paradox took a bug bounty approach and cut checks to independent modders with strong fixes and mechanics improvements, we'd have better games, faster.
@@An_Economist_Plays They won't do it voluntary. For the Stellaris to have a second team of developers it required two things (a) a very large player base (Stellaris is Paradox's most successful IP) and (b) players started to riot not only with reviews bringing down Stellaris down to <55% I think(?) but also voting with their wallets. Victoria 3 has much, much less player base, and the player base is really divided/non-active, so voting with wallet won't happen. We will be stuck with Wiz, his "great" vision of the game's development, and half-working features.
This modlist is just awesome. Many thanks for that!

can you play persia?
After seeing the fun with Russia in a Great Game, Persia is definitely a tempting nation, as is Afghanistan and Khalsa Raj.
@An_Economist_Plays persia has more content as you play it can be really fun about conquest you can do and scrap anything for improving the economy 👍🏻
Incidentally, Building up trade networks between its subjects and allies is how the predecessor of russia (the grand duchy of muscovy) became powerful enough to overthrow the tatar yoke and become a great power. So this is kind of a return to its roots.
I love it when I can find a historical justification for a cheesy move! You win the Internet today!
@An_Economist_Plays trade network was not the only thing though, because muscovy also did a lot of embezzling with the tribute money (muscovy was assigned by the golden/great horde to collect tribute payments from other rus principalities and pay the money to the Golden/great horde), but they embezzling some of the money to help fund the the projects (building trade networks, settlements, etc.) and fund armies used to conquer the rus principalities that were not friends/allies of muscovy.
Heres a video idea: Play as greece, form byzantium, restore the full borders of the roman Empire, and make sure that the economy is stable.
please make your mod. I would love to play it
You should try a Netherlands game. It is a huge sleeper power and can dominate mainland europe with the French on a tight leash all fueled by a massive empire to fuel it all.
They do have a good potential, just that pesky Belgium that broke away spoiling all the fun!
When I play Brazil I quickly puppet Bolivia, take Hormuz and Lourenço Marques (later Transvaal and Orange too) and puppet Brunei. That will give you access to all goods you need and lots of gold. Puppet all South American countries you can and industrialize, only build the trade bloc after you are a great power already (I generally get it by the 1870s). By then you will have SOL and exports enough to attract immigrants, so try to pass multiculturalism (complete Magnanimous Monarch mission and your queen will be an enlightened monarch and you will get bonus chance to roll progressive characters. Make Pedro renounce the throne in her favor early, just have to enrage the intelligentsia to allow for that). By the 1880s you then may start growing exponentially through gargantuan immigration! It's a cool challenge!
Brazil does take a combination of boldness and patience, I do want to give it another run in the future.
The reason for russia having defensive cooperation is so that you can diplomatically ask those central asian countries to join the powerblock in exchange of your protection and so that they cannot attack each other. Then subjugate them through powerbloc actions. Less infamy this way and you do not have to use that expensive and ineffective military of russia in the early game
If the goal of the russian player is to expand, maintaining sovereign empire is a must. But this is a roleplay playthrough I guess
Even as a Sovereign Empire, though, the chances of one fighting the other are small. Having it for the early game as a free mandate is fine, I can build out the two other mandates, but then I'd double back and change that one during the midgame.
Russia is the nation I bounce off of quickest in this game, so I'm looking forward to picking up some tips. Let's go Fancy Bears!
Slow and steady is the key, and then when you have enough iron mines... Boom!
I've been waiting on a Russia campaign. Hopefully this one takes off and you have fun with it.
It is a great game!
In Russia, the distance between the extreme points (west-east) is about 10000km. In Africa, about 7500km Africa is 1.77 times larger than Russia in terms of area
There we go, that's what I was looking for. It's still a Mercator thing that makes the projection SO big on the flat map in more Northern regions. :-) Thanks for looking that up!
Russia biggest starting problem is terrible 60% MAPI from traditionalism and no stock exchange tech. This prevents you from taking advantage of economies of scale since both imported and exported goods from each state have a massive penalty. Russia's literacy therefore qualifications are also so low that you wont be able to fully employ machinists and later engineers for some time. I found it is much more effective to first build one or two wood construction sectors in each state with a huge wood surplus then focus on areas that also have iron available. I predict that your huge stack of cotton plantations will be a huge bust if you insist on building it. Fix that bureaucracy deficit immediately after you stop building construction sectors: they are effectively more profitable than anything else you can build. You'll need lots of paper for bureaucracy and universities soon enough so paper is a great industry for Russia. Pro tip: conquer Uruguay ASAP and incorporate it, build 3 paper mills there and take the special combined paper and forestry company. It's a hidden gem that not only boosts infrastructure but also tools throughput.
You can also just slash the least profitable trade routes to get bureaucracy back to zero and avoid building the admin buildings for now.
Indeed, once I got off of traditionalism, things got much better - that happens later in the game. And, yes, paper is very much needed for a growing Russian Bear!
I was looking forward to you playing as Italy 😢. Can you point out the cons playing for example Italy or Netherlands? Love your videos either way! ❤
I think getting the Brazil and Russia runs under my belt have helped me to see some possibilities with a nation of those sizes. But I still like a big nation that has access to what it needs to get the job done!
As Brazil it's a good idea to form a sovereign empire as opposed to a trade league. Use the authority from it to put immigration edicts everywhere.
@ 23:19 you dont need to do it. There are options that allow yoh to let them become an accepted pop :) it will fire in the right conditions as a pop up
I’m sorry to say something unkind, but I’m largely convinced you’ve not read Kafka, or else are confusing him entirely with Orwell.
Yes, those "Kafka comments" are very random and irritating.
To be sure, I did get off-brand in my video character, taking aspects of The Trial, The Penal Colony, and The Gate of Justice and conflating them with my own paranoia - and Orwell is not that far from Kafka, in my view. But, yes, I was leaning more on George than on Franz.
I see Spy vs. Spy, so I click. Simple as.
Expansion… perfect…
So I guess after beating up Prussia for German leadership, they'll have to become fast friends. Shame Lubeck backed out, that decision will have pretty big ramifications on Central European history over the next 50 years.
F
May I suggest sprinkling in a touch of modern meme culture to enhance that delightful Kafkaesque utopia of yours? Perhaps a playful tweak in the video description - changing the country name from "Austrian" to "Australian" - could add a whimsical layer of irony. ;)
I was looking for where to change a nation's name... do you know how to do that?
@@An_Economist_Plays As in all Paradox games, the simplest ways to change a country's name is by editing the dynamic country name directly in the save file. You may also want to consider making a backup of your save file beforehand, just in case.
@sergeyangmar ah, the save edit method! Of course!
Austria is my favourite country in Victoria, it can be a tough one though. I look forward to seeing how this plays out. :)

Ah yes the city of «V» in the state of «A», famous for composers like «W.A.M.» and psychoanalyst «S.F.»
Indeed. I've enjoyed strolling the boulevards of "V", listening to the music of "J.S. II" as I walk along. And the ferris wheel in "P" is quite enjoyable.
Can't you continue the Brazilian run?
I'll need to go back to it since I had some major mod changes with 1.8.3, so my old save isn't compatible. I will likely go back there to try the cheesy strategy of getting rid of slavery right away, so I can grow my pops faster. :-)
