May I research, should every home have an expansion tank ?
Amen!
G
Transfer pump do magic too! This idea is cool!
@@chrisjovel9126Absolutely
Good clean job, no gas trap though?
There is defiently a gas drip leg
And the reason he didn’t put something to catch that mess in the beginning?
@mrindependent1 Tank was already leaking and I had a shop vac already going to clean up the water... Not that hard to figure out.. please please we are smarter as a society than this..
@ yea Cleaning it up is much smarter than putting something under to catch it Genius
Would it be easier to just hook up garden hose to the existing drain valve and use the water pressure you have from your water supply pressure to flush it out instead of doing all that?
Water heater is in the basement with no drain.
Is the supply coming straight from a mud creek? The water quality must be terrible at the source
Hahaha.. settlement at bottom of water heater always looks horrible..
Once I take the screw out, the handle will not come off. It's just like the one in this video. How do I take it off without breaking something
Wiggle wiggle it will come off
What valve or connector you use for air to water connection
When i buy those connectors i search in Amazon "Winterize irrigation" usually puts me on the right adapter hose.. good luck
@ sweet, thank you 😊
Ive been a plumber for 23 years and that will definitely do the trick but it is a bit messy especially when you remove the drain valve. All you need is a transfer pump , 3/4" pex and pex to hose connector. I use a liberty 331. Just pull the nipple off the top of the tank , drop the pex down in it and use the transfer pump to suck the water out of the tank. Less mess and less equipment needed .
@Mrjangles38 absolutely. What you described is an excellent way to pump out a water heater. If the 1/2" pex will not go thru nipple then take out P&T valve and fish your pex thru that hole.
@LearnPlumbing i found 1/2" is to small , most times the sediment chunks are to big and just clog it up so i remove the 3/4" nipple on top of the water heater and shove the 3/4" pex into the tank . Works perfect, i like the idea of removing the t&p great input🤙
This is cool, but most of the times with older tanks the sediment builds up in layers and essentially shrinks the diameter of the tank. Or it settles at the bottom.
This is a Replacememt.. Just trying to drain the water heater in the basement to replace it..
Tankless Water heaters..... no more rusty water maintenance nonsense that requires a goober to come by and make a big mess. Went tankless 5 years ago no problems save electric and got all that space back.
HAHAHA.. Good luck..
How much does someone charge to do that?
This was a Water Heater Replacememt
Great job sir 🫡! I will be using this tip thank you!!
Air is a great option. Everything has its place. I was in a tower last week and pumping out from the P&T hole was the best method...
If you don't have a compressor, the exhaust from a shop vac works well too. No need for all the extra fittings. I used my small 2-gallon vacuum and drained it in about 10 minutes.
Thanks for sharing
You have to use Pythagoras theorem which is A^2 + B^2 = C^2 to find the true offset. Where A and B equals your sides of the triangle. (Doesn’t matter which one goes where). After you find C, then you multiply that number by 1.414 to get your rolling offset length. The way you explained it makes it seem like it’s as easy as calculating just a normal 45 offset which if you do will leave your rolling offset short in length.
Stop...
pros use yellows
What
I really needed the part before this, I’m so sad you didn’t video that part too!
What part are you looking for?
I like the compressor vs using a water pump that has to pump all that rusty sediment water. Nice work boys... 👍
If you get paid by the job LOL I just wait for it to drain
@nickbryant2318 Basement with no drain. Your either pumping or blowing... Your Choice
Thank you! Mine ended up being even a little simpler than this one in the video. Needed a 3mm allen key to take the handle off and then instead of having to pop the orange ring all the way off to turn it clockwise, mine was is held in with a spring-like mechanism (and it’s gray) and I just had to pull it out slightly, turn it counterclockwise, and release it into the farthest position, with the spring or whatever pulling it back into place. Took less than a minute start to finish. I’ve been living with 94 degree showers for 10 months! 🤦♀️
Cheers
nice but highly dangerous with air keep air pressure down please ! I would do it but not with 100 plus psi of air just my opinion but gut feeling also never air test pvc
@jeffreyplumber1975 There's no danger. Tank reg set at 80. It's open system pushing out the water.
just put new one man
Mine has a allen set screw at the bottom, problem is after it's out the handle will still not come off. Like they jammed it on some how. Tried pulling and wiggling it back and forth all that it does is bend and twist the entire assy. Any ideas on a way to remove it without causing damage to the whole assy? Would be nice to take a hot shower instead of lukewarm.
That's awesome.
This guy is clearly taking amphetamines.
Good video, thanks for putting it out here for all to see and learn. Questions..... Shouldn't there be a check valve installed as well that is located between the main water supply (downstream of the water meter) and the main supply lines to the house, or does the pump have a check valve built into it? Also, once you install this recirculation system, shouldn't the cold water lines now be wrapped with foam tape or foam insulation, since you are using them to return some heated water to the water heater? Or am I misunderstanding how this system works???? Thanks again!
My water heater is on a 20 AMP breaker. I just looked at it when I saw this. I didn't know which breaker it was on, but found it with a voltage pen, so finding no power, the logic seems to say that's the one. I have two 30 AMPS, but for some reason that are clipped to each other (perhaps the A/C). I have a smaller tank, so that may make a difference. I have a hot water line leak, so I needed it off, but there is no "ON" light, or power switch and is hardwired into the wall and you cannot disconnect it, or I would have (it was professionally installed, so you can't pull the wires. Without using the voltage tester ($15), I would not have known which breaker to turn off. The panel diagram is in Greek.
Did you plug yhr t&p?
Your kidding, right?
On the fly
Yes! The aqua piston not only causes the toilet to have a weak, insufficient flush, but they also break easily as well and are a complete pain in the ass to deal with.
If you add chlorine to the water wells where I live at the water, turns black- brown.
@paulcoulter7181 We always flush it out. Chlorine is to spot disinfect and flush it all out until it's clear again
Thanks for the Video. Very clear. My challenge was that my tankless is set at 140. Temp to back sink faucet said 130. Shower was about 105 at best. Cartridge was set to max temp.......I carefully notched the adjustment cam allowing more travel. Problem solved. The wife always complains that it needed to be just a little hotter. I got tired of that whining sound. Problem solved..........for now. Thank you again.
Announcing “Here comes the pex!” and “Two more feet!” really locks in how professional and experienced this guy is.
@oldfriend2317 I'm unsure about your comment.. are you Trolling a 25 year Journeyman Plumber or are you serious. Are you a Professional anything? Or Professional Troll....
@ Are you saying that this is common practice for a 25 year Journeyman Plumber? If not, you are only trolling yourself. If yes, doesn’t it get old announcing to the helpers every time you send the pex through a hole? “Two more feet!” lol Electrician:“Here comes some wire guys!” Carpenter:”Here comes some wood!” Roofer: “Here comes another shingle!” Belt has been on for 28 years.
That’s how I’ve been doing them for the last twenty years works great
Yes Sir
Thank you. Your video was very helpful. Saved me from buying a hot water heater.
AWESOME

Try a real tool
Thanks
Rock that saw in a circle, it cuts easier and do not try and push the drill in, to cut faster, that binds up the saw and slows you down. Plus your more likely to spin that drill if it binds up
Thanks
If you run your drill in reverse that plug usually pops out.
👍
why not just close the hot water side valve and connect a hose to the bibb at the bottom of the tank and run it out to the bucket? that’s how i was taught, but maybe this method is better? 🤷♂️
My pop-up leaks after installing new cam assembly need your skills.
What tool were you using @3:09 ?
nice job guys! was wondering if I could use my small laser for something like this. Now just need to figure out doing an existing house and trying to measure from inside furthest toilet to clean out fall measurement. I would think a rotary laser with a stick would be the only option?
My last water heater lasted 22 years and was NEVER EVER drained. Pays to live in a place without sh*tty East Coast water🎉
Nice video, obviously not a plumber. Using the pipe wrench backward, rubber is usually inserted with the spud not after. Also overtightened the spud. It all worked but several issues could have been bad.
Absolutely not to everything you just said. SUPER TROLL..why are you saying that nonsense..
@ not a troll! First, pipe wrenches are used with the loose jaw pulling toward the fixed jaw. They are not meant to be used by tightening the jaws together and pushing on the loose jaw. Second, I have replaced hundreds of spuds and the international plumbers guide showed in its instructional videos and books that the rubber gasket is inserted while on the spud. Third, the rubber gasket is considered to be a light compression seal, not a heavy compression seal. When putting that much torque on that particular seal, it is common for the porcelain around it to develop micro cracks. Every time someone flushes that toilet it puts lateral pressure on the vertical pipe thus when that fitting is torqued down so tight it exerts pressure sideways on the urinal opening that it was not designed to withstand. In most cases, when young apprentices make this mistake we end up replacing the entire urinal because it breaks. I believe another person commented on hearing what sounded like a cracking noise during the tightening process you were showing. These are not comments made to be negative, just informative.
@journeybeforedestinationov3553 Still Trollin brother... This install is good.. you may want to go check on those 100 loose spuds you installed.. There's plenty of people for you to Troll not a 25 year Journeyman Plumber.. Happy Hunting... Troll
