Explore Mason's Guild :-)
Yes, sir! :)
Free the fairy, you monster :-)))
We need the light though! Otherwise we are toast!
do you know that you can use the shovel, in the zone where you fail the survival check? Maybe you don't do it for immersion reasons, but if you want you can try to find the right point
Yeah, someone commented that before and I tried it and now I know it works, but I do consider it a bit gamey / immersion-breaking, so I try not to do it.
Love this game. Yesterday I played co-op with my brother and in the ruins at the beginning we failed the check at the door and went in and all 5-6 guys were waiting in the fire barrel room waiting in ambush. We snuck as far as we could and I had the idea to throw grease in the room in front of them and in the path to the door in hopes to light it on fire. Tossed it and it hit the perfect spot in front of the door and it triggered the fight 2-3 enemy got to go just before us and the doorman came in our room and then the brute of a man killing Asteron. The mage ran and slipped and then it was our turn. We ran to the switch and shut the door where they had to go through grease to open it which made all but 1 slip. We killed the doorman and brute while the others were trying to shoot the door and then positioned ourselves on both sides of the door and opened it again and trying to light it on fire by hitting the mage laying on the ground at the door and failed to get the fire to trigger. 2 more came through and then we shut the door after killing the mage. We then took them out and then opened the door finishing off the last one that was standing at the door. It was one of my favorite fights to date. I thought us or the enemy would light it on fire and then close them off while we retreated but the grease on its own was a lifesaver and managed to keep them at bay long enough to pick off one or two at a time.
Awesome! I was trying some stuff yesterday and discovered a completely new area with a chest and 30 XP right at the start, on the beach… I hit 400 hours and never noticed it…
@ nice, was that the mind-flayer chest on top of the rocks by the beach or somewhere different?
Odd, my comment vanished. I wrote that the examine page of enemies only shows passives, buffs, and debuffs. It never shows active abilities because that would be way too much, just imagine a mage. You've seen that many times before, so you shouldn't assume an enemy can't cast spells just because the examine page doesn't mention it
Happens sometimes, YT runs a pretty aggressive AI screening tool. Yeah, I should have known really, not the first time it happens. And having thought about it, I actually quite like it - much more immersive!
@@immersioneer Yeah, but what surprised me is that, to my knowledge, I didn't use any word which could have triggered a youtube bot. RUclips must have screening tools of really low quality
Tbh this fight is quite annoying! Mainly cus they can revive each other. The fight however becomes easy if you prepare, like separating the 2 groups and quickly taking out the shepherds . I quite enjoy this fight since its challenging :) The Ghast has stench cloud and the Ghouls can paralyse which can make this interesting. There is ofc this option of skipping this fight as you could use invisibility to pass them and go to act 2 but much more enjoyable fighting it! I suggest caution in the creche and they have proven themselves as frankly quite rude to the party.
@@frostbite-u8r I love this fight, very well designed
Yeah, it's a cool fight, especially blind in honour mode, but I wish there was at least some way to guess that they will do this. Otherwise, you pretty much have to engage them, learn about the mechanics, disengage, and then come back with the knowledge of how they act...
@immersioneer Death Shepherd, come on :-)) I absolutely expected something extremely nasty of them as soon as I saw the name for the first time. Prioritised them, still was a hard fight. My first time trying this fight solo was hilarious, I ran away and came back three times more than you did here :-))
@@alexmashkin863 Yeah, maybe you are right. For some reason, because I back tracked there after the creche, I thought it was just an easy side-fight. They are a guarding a crossroads to the Shadow Lands though, so I guess one can surmise that it's going to be a tough fight... Now we know! :)
1:13:19 to prepare the fight, I would let Tal'quir put the ritual spell _Enhanced Leap_ on both of you, then cast the 'minor illusion' and go into turn-based mode. this way both Gith have 10 turns vastly more free movement to get to the Death Shepherds and avoid melee with the ghouls. edit: btw, why do you 'hate' taking long rests? are you short on supplies? you probably have more than a 1,000. or is the bunk too soft for your Gith?
Yeah, that's a good strategy. It's not that I "don't like" taking long rests, but I try to make my days last as long as I possible can. Firstly, for immersion and secondly for the added challenge. I don't like "abusing" long resting by basically long-resting before anything important happens. It makes some mechanics, like spell slots obsolete, which I don't like.
1:04:36 why not consider simply pressing _disengage_ and move away without triggering opportunity attacks?
Because that takes an action, which we can use to make a parting shot or dash.
55:09 'yeah, that's about right. I mean we are not bloodthirsty *but* we are very much in tune with the Githyanki way.' *[-25 attitude with Embreis]* 😲😦 why not outright kill that Varsh Ko'kuu a minute ago? he takes on the creche's captain and wants to give the egg a chance against 'the Githyanki way.' the Githyanki way is bloodthirsty and if you follow it you are prone to act bloodthirsty too. these notions are mutually exclusive. there is piling evidence in front of you that the Githyanki way has become a belief system which tolerates no deviation. most Gith seem brainwashed into blind obedience. your Tal'quir is a sage. how serious is he about critical thinking? does he question things? Lae'zel calls all mention of Orpheus heresy. the mistreated boy in front of you had his name on his lips. do you stomp out everyone mentioning Orpheus too?
Sure, there is that, but at the same time the Gith do have their traditions, hierarchy and responsibilities. We are not going to kill one of our kin because he chose to discharge the responsibilities given to him slightly differently. If we were the care takers of these eggs, maybe we would, but as it is, we are just in disagreement with this guy. And Tal’quir is indeed a bit more curious. Still a Githyanki and probably seeking knowledge mostly to better himself as a warrior, but he is a bit more reserved / calm / rational than Lae’zel.
18:40 'what choice do we really have though?' Lae'zel could throw some white daggers, spears, axes, torches. I'll bet your inventory comes with quite a collection of throwing weapons, probably even includes the _Returning Pike_ . 😉
Yeah, I keep forgetting that you can throw things out of your inventory. I always think that you can only throw an item that's "equipped". Which, frankly, I think is how it should be! :P
8:50 this looks like you have several options (switch off more lights): maybe consider using your Githyanki Mage Hand (it's even the superior invisible variety) and grab your trident with it, bringing it closer to your spot and equip it before the fight - then use the hand to throw water bottles at her making her wet - for your ice arrows or frost spells. or start combat by throwing one of auntie Ethels conconctions on her: _Lost Time_ , _Missing Pets_ or _Insanity's Kiss_ 🤪 or #3: try to lure the wolves away from her using _Minor Illusion_ and dispatch them first
6:27 'we really need to up our intelligence though.' I can see only one viable way to do this without changing your character completely (even when remaining a fighter). summon Lump somewhere on map #1 (e.g. in the underdark), let his group take a beating for you (ideally) and refuse to pay him. then solve the ensuing 'problem' and voilà, one of you can raise their intelligence to 17. 🤭
1:08:00 You need to convince her through dialogue, but the option only becomes available later.
was surprised he didn't even try talking to her. that would have been my first move.
Ah, I see... Interesting...
I thought any relevant dialogue would trigger on eating the tadpole, tbh.
Dude oh my god. I wished so much there was content exactly like yours. Finding this channel was linke finding something I craved and thought to be inexistent. Love the stuff, keep it up :)
Thanks a lot! Appreciate the support! Glad you are enjoying it! I can't wait to put all of my playthrough ideas onto the channel! And I have MANY!
That immersion went away really fast when you tried to casualy force feed Lae'zel a tadpole lol In all seriousness, you gotta prepare for those fights man, it's honour mode and you picked a niche class that people usually just dip in for the bound weapon, drink some potions, buff yourself with some spells from scrolls like magic weapon or false life. I know it can be frustrating but it really isn't on the game this time and if you struggle with this little fight, you will have a terrible time with the inquisitor.
Yeah, that fight was a bit on me - I got a little complacent. I thought nothing could be too hard for us outside of the creche…
Excellent video!! I share your frustration with regards to the Death Shepherds, they are an extreme annoyance. Your basic strategy is correct, they need to be downed on the same round, but not necessarily the first round. I am not sure I agree that examining an enemy should provide all the possibe characteristics. I suspect Larian is incorporating an element of tabletop DnD where you are rather ignorant of an enemy until you face them in a battle. The knowledge gleaned can then be utilized when one faces a similar enemy in the future. One clarification, your statement that you have investigated the enitre monastary proper (not including the creche) is incorrect. There is one area you have yet to explore. Continue your excellent progress. Good luck. Cheers
Yeah, it's a tough one, but I actually enjoyed it in the end. And you are right, you should see what the enemies do - I actually made that comment in an earlier video, haha!
Are you gonna play Victoria 3 again soon with the new update?
Yes, I've been playtesting 1.8 this weekend. Going to give it another week or so maybe as some hotfixes are still coming through and then do a Let's Learn 1.8 series, so stay tuned!
Nope sorry, the debuff on lae'zel is permanent, at my knowledge
@@ssstegel Consuming tadpole removes it
@alexmashkin863 oooooooooh i didn't knew it 😮 Thank you!
@alexmashkin863 i don't use illithid powers. When i play is to remove the parasite, not to embrace it 😅
@@ssstegel I've done all sorts of roleplays and solo runs. Solo runs become incredibly more challenging without illithid powers :-)
Let's see, we'll try to cure Lae'zel, if we can. I think she should be open to it now that she has learned the true nature of this particular "magical" tadpole... Maybe...
1:25:14 iirc, one of the blue framed weapons in your inventory is the _returning pike_ . maybe use this until you can fetch the trident. on a side note: if you forget to bind your throwing weapon, why not throw some of the javelins, axes, daggers or spears in your inventory? the heavier they are the more damage they do in general. anyway, that shield spell was doing a lot of heavy lifting in this episode. 🙏
I did warn you that Lae'zel might be resistant to going tadpole. This is a surprisingly tough fight. But as you realised you need to kill both Death Shepherds in order to stop them from reviving everyone. Though I do think that the revived ghouls and ghast have a little less power each time. AOE attacks are probably the answer. If they are on their backs they can't attack you. Best of luck with the next attempt.
Yeah, but we need to deal with that debuff... It's pretty debilitating =/
@@immersioneer It certainly is, and I just fluffed my dice role to deal with it, before going to meet the Inquisitor. Hopefully I will get another chance.
Want a hint for the undead encounter? Look behind the shield: Pull the encounter apart with minor illusion. Preferably separate two shepherds. Far apart, then kill. So they don't have much chances for resurrection.
Yup, that's what I was planning to do. Thanks for putting a shield in!
You're very amusing in your confidence about the inquisitor :-) You don't even know what that fight is. I'd say you need everything and then some for it, because it might end your run, it is a hardest fight in Act 1 on honour mode.
We've got this, don't you worry...
@immersioneer You should, honestly. You have all the tools. The real danger of that fight is the fact that it's really hard to run away from. At this point I consider only those types of fights actually dangerous for you. Even though you refuse to take Alert 😂
It's you who decided to do a blind playthrough in the hardest difficulty with only two characters 😂 you can't complain because it's hard. If you think the recent fights are hard, what are you going to do against act 3 big bosses lol. You have to convince Lae'zel before she accepts tadpole. She's the hardest to convince with her githyanki background by the way.
Don't you think force feeding Lae'zel a tadpole would be very out of character? You can convince her through the dialogue. Which I feel would be very out of place for this run composition.
I think it would be ok as we find out more about this particular tadpole and the whole "world is ending" situation we are being pulled into. I think a true Githyanki would do whatever is necessary to win - I feel like they are somewhat like crazy samurai that would go to any length to defeat their enemy. It would 100% be out of character to just start eating tadpoles at the very start of the game or when the "Guardian" encourages us too. That I definitely agree with.
@immersioneer They rather die and see the world burn than become hated ghaik :-) I don't think the depth of their hatred has been sufficiently impressed upon you. So no, it's a very weak justification. It will work somewhat of course, since you're not roleplaying exceedingly anyway. I personally find it out of place, but it's your game obviously :-)
the undeads of the crossway are too dark when in the shadows of the trees ;)
Ah... I wish the game made that clear, somehow...
Your frustration is all on you, mate 😂 Stop projecting your expectations on the game, it behaves as it always did :-) It's only fault is that it has beaten you :-))
true :p
Yeah, I think it was just late on Friday after a busy week to be honest. Sorry!
@@immersioneer Oh, it's totally understandable :-)) This game has this particular trait to it, can be very frustrating if you're not in a right set of mind. Still on you though 😂
oil of sharpness does not overcome resistance to magical damage. The dead shepherd is resistant to both magical and not magical damage. So it is not useful. More: when you throw a weapon, coating doesn't work and sometimes disappears from the weapon :(
did this fight for the first time yesterday. thought the description for _deluted oil of sharpness_ sounded quite useful. it was not. luckily, my people had _morninglord's radiance_ on them. two bottles of holy water did the rest to whittle down their 'Necrotic Veil'.
Yeah, I misread that =/ Now we know!
Yeah, having a cleric would come in handy here...
@@immersioneer no, there was no cleric in my party. _Morninglord's Radiance_ is a condition one can learn by solving the four weapons puzzle at the monastery. it adds radiant damage for any party member until long rest.
These videos of yours let me relive my first times through the game. Great fun!
Thanks! Appreciate the support and glad you are enjoying them! More to come!
1:04:06 as long as we have the artifact, right, we are valuable and the Gith will help us to get rid of the tadpole.' you still believe that? after you saw how their 'purification device' works. you even suspected an ulterior motive for the contraption's purpose. do you expect the Gith have other means to free themselves from tadpoles? they hatch from eggs and as Lae'zel said they claim their first kill at the age of 10. they train rigorously and slit the throats of lesser opponents without a second thought - including other Gith. it seems a single life is not worth much in Gith society.
This fight is obviously designed to be annoying with a good potential of becoming miserable :-)) I love it. I struggled with it in my first playthrough a lot with a full party :-) Playing solo it can be challenging
Yeah, it just seems like people familiar with D&D ruleset know in advance how various enemy types behave, so it sounds like there is a way to be prepared. For someone like me, I guess you just need to get in there and learn as you go :)
@immersioneer I'm familiar with 3.5 edition (the best one ever), absolutely not familiar with 5e. In fact, BG3 is my only experience with it. Of course it never occured to me to do my very first playthrough on honour mode without full party 😂 I usually play games for the very first time on medium difficulty trying to see what developers wanted my experience to be :-)
@@alexmashkin863 Heh, I love starting up new games on hardest difficulty - if they are well designed, then there is usually a way to get through them by thinking carefully and good use of all mechanics.
@immersioneer I play for stories and roleplay :-) I love d&d mechanics of course, but the story always come first, that's why I can't really minmax when I O play, even though I know how. In a lot of games mechanics kinda stand in a way of me really enjoying the experience, like Dragon Age: Origins and others, never could really play them, even though I love the world, characters and story.
46:28 '...she will do double damage though, right?' is she wet or otherwise at an disadvantage? she burns. why would lightning do double damage on her unless you land a critical hit? 🤔
I don't recall now, but I think I thought they were standing in water, weren't they? There was a pool of water left over from the ice / sleet storm.
@@immersioneer maybe I don't understand the mechanic fully but if a target stands in water the lightning arrow electrifies the water but it doesn't do double damage. if you make the target _wet_ then ice/lightning arrows deal double damage. iirc, sometimes the target is 'wet' by standing in deep enough water but a puddle usually isn't enough.
33:52 did you notice that nice brazier above those four Gith? or the barrel right next to the door? was it filled with a flammable liquid? luckily, both of your iniative was high enough to go first before all the other Gith. one of you could shoot down the first brazier and maybe even the second brazier too to get the doctor. one could grab the barrel and place it in a more useful spot to set it on fire - if it is filled with alcohol or oil. 😏
Kinda sad that Lae'zel got weakened by the machine. I wonder if there is a cure for it other than the filthy parasites.
that seems to be the only way to remove this condition. tough call for Gith who abhor any notion of using tadpoles on their body.
Yeah, it's a pretty tough debuff... I hoe we can cure it though, otherwise I don't know if we'll last long =/
49:31 You guys shooed away scratch but take this ugly one :(((
Haha, I think at the time we didn't know we could take him in.
12:49 what, first you avoid making a decision and let Lae'zel answer in Gith dialogues - twice in a row and then you just let her step into that totally unknown and suspicious looking contraption? it's one thing for Gith wanting to get rid of the ghaik tadpole asap but would your sage Gith not ponder a bit about the implications? if not, why not let him go first? too risky? 🤨entertain the audience and let us know your thought process when making decisions like that. 🙂
Thanks! Maybe I should have explained this better - I had full faith in our kin and our Gith technology, that's why we didn't questing the doc or the Zaith'isk. We let Lae'zel go first because she was so keen on it and you know... ladies first :)
Glad I found this series. I have Vic 3 in my library for a awhile but I was too afraid to play due to how complex the game mechanics were. It was overwhelming and so I kind of just stopped playing, but after seeing the release of 1.8 and the DLC decided it was time to face my fears and actually learn to play.
Awesome and thank you! Glad you enjoyed it and found it helpful! I'll be doing a Let's Learn 1.8 in the coming couple of weeks, so stay tuned!
I like that you showed nuance in your playthrough. Too many confuse immersion or roleplay with racism/generalisation.
Thanks! Yeah, conflict / nuance drives drama, I guess :)
Don't forget to take the egg after you finish the Crechè!
I took the egg with permission from the custodian and walked away unbothered on my first visit to the hatchery. by sheer coincidence it was only Lae'zel who walked up to him and she is not a very good talker in my team, yet she convinced him to just let go of the egg.
Hmm, I think we leave the weakling in peace... If it can't hatch on its own, we have no use for it... =P
@@immersioneer Lae'zel does lol
"there was no fire there". The 3d objects probably made it hard to see but the tooltip on your cursor did say "fire" when you moused over the location you were going to jump to. Not getting the extra action from bloodlust is normal because it was the sneak attack damage which killed the enemy. Any deathblows delivered by the player itself doesn't trigger it: sneak attack, crushing damage from gravity (e.g. when you throw an item from a high position), collapsed mind, etc Bloodlust is already OP enough as it is, so that's fine
You sure about Sneak Attack not triggering Bloodlust? I thought the source of Sneak Attack is the player, so the damage should be attributed to the character. On the other hand I never really played based on sneak attacks, so don't know all mechanical intricacies very well
@@alexmashkin863 Reasonably sure. I must say I've only done 1 run with a rogue and I don't remember whether or not I had issues getting bloodlust to trigger. But it is the only explanation I see for bloodlust not triggering here and it is in line with other well known reasons for bloodlust not triggering such as gravity damage and cull the weak. Intuitively you'd say that the player is the source of the sneak damage, but the same can be said of gravity damage. I'm pretty sure that "player damage" is internally defined as damage coming directly from the weapon/spell. Conditional bonus damage (not including stuff like "if you're a gith, deal d4 extra psychic weapon damage) is probably not included, you could see that as "mechanism damage". It might depend on how you apply the sneak attack, through the reaction system or by using the sneak attack button, because that affects how the damage is applied. When using it through the reaction system the damage is added as a "DRS" (Damage Riders treated as Damage Sources)
@IsilionNELE Gravity has a source outside of player, just as cull the weak. Not so sure about sneak attack, because it's source is weapon, even though it applies as damage rider. But all damage riders do trigger Bloodlust, of that I'm certain. Never done a solo run with rogue base though. Had rogues in party runs, but never on Bloodlust.
@@alexmashkin863 It's the only thing i can think of as a candidate for not triggering bloodlust. I don't think the weapon is the source of the sneak attack, it's triggered by an ability or class trait or whatever you want to call it. Apart from damage type it doesn't inherit anything from the weapon since it's damage is fixed by your rogue level. i could be wrong ofc, maybe it's some weird multiplayer issue or so, but i don't see how desync can cause a bloodlust not to trigger
Agree about the fire surface - I need to remember to read the tooltips! I think not getting the extra action on bloodlust is genuinely broken. The game should know who "caused" the damage. I noticed I also sometimes don't get XP the throwing a spear as the enemy "technically" dies from crushing damage. That's also completely broken and lame, tbh =/
It will be interesting to see how long you can put up with the Pixie swearing at you. I have no idea how long she keeps going for.
I find it quite entertaining, actually :)
@@immersioneer Massochist. But it is surprising how many players have reported a bug in the game after collecting the lamp, somehow not realising that it contains a pixie, and then wandering around with a disembodied voice calling out to them. Hilarious!
@@Jules_Diplopia LOL, no way! That's the funniest bug report I've ever heard of!
Congratulations on your victory over Karnis. Excellent tactics and impressive win. With regards to your concentration mishap, in all fairness, the game issued 2 warnings. In the haste spell description that displayed when hovering over the bow, it stated in red letters "casting haste will end concentration on wall of fire". Secondly, as you were casting the spell, prior to confirming the spell, the phrase "casting haste will end concentration on wall over fire" was displayed over your characters head. Otherwise, a brilliant fight!!
The battle vs kar'niss was "smooth" because of your proper kiting. You denied to your foes every possibility to attack (except for kar'niss retaliation). Don't low your guard 😉
Yeah, we did everything to mess it up though, haha :) Glad it worked out in the end though!
Good job with the drider 👍
Thanks! As long as you keep your distance, I think he is ok. I still didn't quite understand how his "sanctuary" actually works though...
RELEASE THE PIXIE! SMH
We need the moonshield though!
Bad decision with pixie. Nothing dramatic but it is much better to let her go :-)
They're roleplaying, not maxing the result 😊
@ssstegel I know :-) Just saying :-))
Interesting, we'll keep her inside for now though.
@@immersioneer I doubt you get another chance
@@alexmashkin863 The item has a "item action" to examine the lantern, so I think we can let her out any time?
Congratulations! Drider fight can be very annoying, his AI wasn't working in full here though, so you got a bit lucky. But your approach was sound, so you would have killed him anyway :-)
How does his sanctuary actually work? I will take the win, but to be honest, it wasn't 100% clear how we actually won that, haha!
@immersioneer My information is probably not up to date, I never played Patch 7, so there's a disclaimer :-)) How I remember it, he casts Sanctuary on himself every other turn, the bugger. He also does A LOT of damage. Sanctuary prevents enemies from targeting the character, you can still harm them via AOE, but can't target with anything. That's it, it doesn't do anything else. When it drops, it's blocked for one turn. You were kiting and hamstringing him, so he couldn't reach you, and he loves getting in your face. So I think his AI broke a little and he wasn't using his Sanctuary as he usually does. Or the Patch 7 changed something.
You can only have one Elixir active at a time. Bloodlust overwrote Vigilance.
Yeah, we messed that up...
Commenting for the algorithm. I hope you make more Vic 3 vids.
Coming in the next week or two! Let's Learn 1.8 that is!
Finally, a (mostly) up-to-date tutorial that doesnt just dump info on you with little to no context.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! An update to come shortly!
