When Warzone Lost Its Identity: The Truth Behind the Integration Mess
In this video, I dive deep into the chaotic mess that Warzone has become with its latest integration. Once a beloved battle royale, the game has lost its identity, and the shift towards forced purchases and cross-game linking has made it almost unrecognizable. I break down how the integration with Call of Duty multiplayer has completely shifted the focus from a standalone experience to a pay-to-win nightmare. I share my personal thoughts, dive into the changes that have disappointed both casual and hardcore fans, and explore why so many are calling it unplayable now. Is Warzone still the game we once loved, or has it completely lost its soul? Watch and join the conversation in the comment...

    I totally agree. Warzone would be better off returning to its roots as a standalone Battle Royale game, focusing on quality over quantity, and re-examining priorities so that it values players more than profit. If it was like this I would be willing to wait on fixes. The deal breakers for me are EOMM, poor servers with low tick rates. I've noticed the game is completely broken for mouse and keyboard you get more no regs than on controller and I literally bought a controller for the first time yesterday to test it out.

    Reve do you know if this would work in another game with AI filling lobbies? Like, if we block enough IPs so the game can’t connect us to regular servers, would it force 'bot lobbies'? Or is that impossible because there are just too many IPs to block? I'm talking about Delta Force, i've manage to get lobbies full of AI players but it's inconsistent and sometimes I just get normal players after a minutes in-game

      "Skill issue" + "😂" + "stop complaining, play something else" + "get good" followed by offensive slurs. Such a constructive way of engaging! These people are easy to spot. The way they write, disconnected from the content, making assumptions about things no one ever said in the video. Their attention span barely lasts longer than 20 seconds. They see a title and thumbnail, immediately think, "That's not true," go into rage mode, drop a comment, and move on. It's all about fast, shallow engagement, like on TikTok, and they’ve already forgotten about it right after posting. It's crazy! I dont know who said it, but common sense is not common anymore. Thats pretty sad yea.

    I was playing with my little brother, he’s still learning how to play. Our team would usually end up with a negative k/d but me. But every single opponent had skins and store bought camos…. Is like they are feeding all the new players to those who have spent money into the game. I went to play solo and my bullets wouldn’t even register half of the time, but when using my little brother’s profile all of the sudden I’ve got way better aim…… Something I noticed too, when I bought the season pass the matches right after that purchase felt like I part of the CDL, aim was on point and bullets would almost track down opponents.

    You mention data-driven decision making by the end of the video, and I do think it's generally bad when devs rely too much on stats. My go-to FPS has been The Finals for almost a year now, and although it's lightyears away from the crap COD is inflicting on its playerbase, there are still some questionable changes the devs have made due to misinterpreted stats. I.e. at some point, they stated that class balance was off because of diverging pick/win rates. As an experienced player, these stats didn't surprise me, there are logical explanations to them that have little to do with balance, but cannot be understood by looking at raw data. You have to actually play the game. If you're trying to get things working "on average" the overall experience will probably end up being exactly that: average. In the case of The Finals, many early players enjoyed the first two seasons more, even though lots of things were unbalanced then. Part of it is due to the shiny new toy feeling, but I also think that ironing out some of the supposedly unbalanced stuff made the game less spicy overall.

      Oh, absolutely! EA has patents for systems like EOMM, and I think they were among the first to introduce it, especially in FIFA with pack openings. My last FIFA was 2007 by the way. But once you spend money, they pair you with others who’ve spent a similar amount-or slightly better opponents to push you to buy more packs. A friend of mine, who’s played FIFA forever, told me recently it feels different. He feels like he’s gotten worse, even though he’s improved. He plays FIFA since over 20 years. He noticed that when he’s winning, his players suddenly make weird mistakes, miss easy shots, or get injured, while the enemy team plays perfectly. After 2-3 wins, he knows a loss is coming and just logs off. And he never made a single purchase. Their patent is called "Multiplayer video game matchmaking optimization" - US20170259178A1 patents.google.com/patent/US20170259178A1/en The word "engagement" appears 134 times in that patent. And as far as I know, EA is a bit more open when it comes to being transparent. And their players know that they gotta spend to keep up, or you just dont invest money at all.

    Call of Duty sells every year because there is no other arcade shooter in the market, Halo is irrelevant at this point, Battlefield is in it's last stand, Titanfall is dead, Apex is dying. And you are left with either CoD, or millions of hero shooters/milisims, CoD playerbase doesn't care about hero shooters and milisims are niche already. Yearly releases also increases player retention. Call of Duty will continue to be the top FPS franchise until something big chances the landscape, which CoD will then copy and becomes top dog again(like they did with warzone).

    I've come to realization that past maybe Black Ops 1 through Black Ops 2, I've just been addicted to the series. I have no real desire to play them, I just feel like I have to. It's like chasing some high I used to get. Back then, it was more social; I'd have friends to play with and goals to meet in the game that gave me purpose (I used to play amateur PC tournaments). Nowadays, what? Sure I get that good game every once in a while. But it's riddled with frustration, and there was a time when I played CoD that I didn't really get frustrated outside of specific situations. It's all manufactured. I don't think they genuinely want us to have fun. I'm glad it's on Game Pass, because it makes it easy to delete it and play other games.

    • @xreve_
      @xreve_ 6 часов назад

      Oh yeah, absolutely. I was hooked too, no doubt about it! Especially MW2-it felt like the game rewarded me every day for improving. That was my motivation. I even spent half a year purely focused on trickshotting. Those were the good times. Now, everything feels manufactured. It’s not about having fun like it used to be-it’s about keeping you hooked. You don’t play COD because you want to; you play because it feels like you have to. Their shady algorithms and machine learning create tailored experiences to keep players engaged, but once you realize that, the fun disappears. You’re not in control-they are. What’s frustrating is how they manipulate the experience. They’ll let you get crushed, frustrate you, and then ease things up just enough to keep you going. It’s a cycle, and I can’t blame people for falling into it, especially those who don’t reflect on it or notice what’s happening. But it’s exploitative, especially for younger kids. It’s supposed to be an 18+ game, but the store looks like it’s targeted at kids. No adult would buy half the stuff in there.

    • @TheZodiacRipper

      @@xreve_ Two things that made the old Mw2 so much better, for me at least, was that you could play the 2008 MW2 for 3 full years before they released a new game and the multiplayer achievements were addictive as all hell. It was fun to reset all progress and prestige over and over while trying to kill an enemy with a care package and then do it again while also get the end game kill cam! And yes I did them both and it took me a while. And there were tons of these, kill an enemy and yourself with a cocked grenade , get the final kill in final stand, stick an enemy with semtex and get the final kill and so on. Weapon achievements were also more satisfying like doing a double headshot with the Spas 12 compared to the Bryson that can one shot you across the whole map on Shipment today. Things were more equal back then and it took skill and play time to get somewhere. Now you can just tweak or buy whatever weapon and/or blueprint to win.

      The original MW2 is my favourite CoD. The new MW 2019 was good and had me hyped for the new MW2 2022. I even preordered the game. Then I absolutely hated everything about MW2 2022. I hated the UI. I hated the gunsmith. I hated the EOMM. I hated the maps. I hate MW2 2022 so much I may never buy another CoD game.

      @@dazauto107 that's really strange, as it is quite literally just a 1 to one modern day modern warfare, and a build on to mw19. the gunsmith was absolutely wonderful, being abele to build out a gun to play almost any role is prob the biggest thing missing from bo6 tbh. the ui was bad, but ui doesn't make a game. as for sbmm/eomm, complaining about it in gaming is a lost cause, the suits have seen that it makes them money, so it's for sure never going anywhere.

      @@knolseyMore specifically I hated the pointless ‘weapon tuning’. I joke with my friends that only part of MW2 2022 that I enjoyed was the firing range. EOMM and the UI made playing with friends a confusing nightmare. We all hated it and stopped playing together.

      @@dazauto107 most military fps games have a much more in depth weaponsmoth mate, look at Delta Force for instance lol. the tuning added up to 4.8% sway in stats on every attachment, allowing for insane customization of the guns. it was a HUGE w, but also optional if you didn't want to engage with it. you could make a daily youtube video complaining about sbmm/eomm and pay for a house, there are dozens of guys that do it. it's still not going anywhere lol. the UI as far as joining friends is still exactly the same as it was btw.

    the problem is players accepting the addictive mindset and the manipulation. games should be about competition, not abuse with relief sprinkled in.

      Hahaha, I love that last statement! “Not abuse with relief sprinkled in” is such an accurate way to describe how so many games feel these days. I can’t blame people for getting addicted, but the way companies exploit it and force these systems onto players is questionable.

    The absolute worst part of bo6 is the everyone's a winner mechanic, there's no assist instead everyone gets credit for a kill and that mentality is why the devs pump out garbage

    • @xreve_
      @xreve_ 6 часов назад

      I totally agree. They likely replaced assists with eliminations to create a more rewarding and inclusive system for players. This way, everyone who contributes to taking down an enemy feels recognized, even if they didn’t land the final shot. It boosts morale, encourages teamwork, and simplifies stats by avoiding the frustration of "kill stealing." Like who even cares, the objective is to win as a team.

      It’s really frustrating. Playing with friends has become so difficult these days. Activision claims that playing with friends is better, but the moment there’s even a small difference in skill, some players end up getting wrecked, and the fun is ruined for them. Or if your friends are better, you’re the one getting destroyed. That’s not how it should be. Back in the day, you could just hop on and play with your friends, but now it feels like that’s no longer possible. As if they don’t want us to enjoy the games with friends anymore.

    My last COD purchases were MW2 and BLOPS 1. When I saw the cycle of how mediocre the games were getting pumped out i just opted for a 'better' games. Every thing that someone consumes at the end of the day is going to have some underlying marketing but i just look at games now as an investment of time and ask, am i going to enjoy the game? What will i get out of it? If the answers are positive, I'll play them. If not, i can find something else. Despite the games being oriented for a more mature audience, developers with this scale and capital know that they can hook consumers at an early age and get them to consistently buy. Thats my take on it.

      Thanks for the great reply! It’s awesome to connect with other players who’ve seen the evolution of COD, especially veterans like you. I totally agree with your perspective - there’s a huge difference in the way games are designed now. It’s no longer about just enjoying the experience; it’s about pushing microtransactions and making you feel like you have to play constantly. And you’re right about the direction I was talking about - I see how the series has changed over time, but I still find it interesting to hear different viewpoints. Like you mentioned, we have to ask ourselves whether the game is truly enjoyable or just another means to an end. Which it is by now, by exploiting younger audiences. I’ve also had to step back from multiplayer lately because it feels like a chore, and I’ve been enjoying single-player games again for the story and experience. It’s amazing to see that there are others out there who feel the same way. I think it’s important to keep this discussion going, especially with younger audiences who may not know what the original COD experience was like. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts - it’s really refreshing to hear from someone who’s seen it all and still has a passion for gaming!

      @xreve_ you're absolutely right. I find myself watching some old games I enjoyed from back in the day like BF 1942, etc. I find that despite a game may not have all the features a player may want but I reminisce seeing games like that because they fostered a community feel. It was nice when developers wouldn't be all against a modding community for example because then the player could try out a whole array of things and see what others could imagine up all within the capabilities of that engine. I think developers instead of rushing out a game every year, they go for that approach and then when they start working on the next game just by looking at what the community enjoys they can tailor it something that everyone will be much more excited to play upon release. Great talking with you, love the discussion!

It’s like a domino effect-once it starts, we could get back to the gaming experience it’s meant to be. I also believe it's up to the newer generation of gamers-the ones who started with the modern CODs. the other way CoD can change is if another shooter becomes HUGE and blows up the market, this can force CoD to finally take itself serious because without competition why the hell would they even care. XDefiant tried to be the arcade shooter to defy CoD but failed miserably due to delays and lack of confidence in themselves to even try more than 1 season. One thing i've noticed is that CoD is EXTREMELY reactionary to other games that are un the spotlight. Take the jetpack era for example, back then Titanfall movement and hero shooters like Overwatch was all the rage so what does Cod come out with? Advanced Warfare, Black Ops 3, Infinite Warfare. After that era PUBG comes out, Fornite blows up, Apex Legends takes the stage, battle royale becomes a global phenomenon so CoD once again tried its hand in making the trends by coming out with Blackout and subsequently Warzone.

      @@PhillyBatts So true. Why are we being served this unfinished, broken mess when we had fully working games over a decade ago? It feels like too much now. As I’ve said before, we’re the beta testers. We pay to test the game, complain about it, and they fix it afterward-well, they try to fix it, at least. Then, just before the new COD is released, the game becomes playable, and the cycle repeats. People go back to the old COD, and it all starts again.
