First look at my viewer Peter's B175 engine. I will be stripping, inspecting and reporting back on what this engine needs. We believe this to be a genuine 12,000 mile bike which stood in a garden since 1977. It's likely that the engine has never been apart. unfortunately, it is seized.     Great instructional video for anyone wishing to do work on the Bantem engines. Looks like new. The compressor tool,, are you sure that it is not meant to go under the clutch basket , rather than under the sprocket.???. Steve.

    You should just have fitted the Yamaha clutch conversion once fitted just forget about clutch problems ever again. I did watch the conversion you did but have never seen a follow up? I have this conversion on a Drayton Bantam and this will get far more abuse than a road bike will ever see and it is also bored to 185cc.

      @@router5840 The D10 I converted is awaiting further progress, amongst other projects. This one is a customer's engine. I'm glad to hear that the clutch holds up to abuse, very promising.

    Memories, back in the day we had a chap who would build a bantam engine in his lunch hour, if he was bored. No waiting for spares to arrive, he only had to climb the ladder to the stores from the workshops, we even did an over the counter exchange scheme for cranks and barrels. What's that about the good old days being better than now? 😂

      @@paulfloyd228 I'll have a look later. I had to machine up a spacer to interpose between the bearing and stand, and replaced the screws. I've actually gone back to setting Bantam cranks on Vee Blocks. I need to do something to make my stand a bit less wiggly.

      @@paulfloyd228 I ended up with flanged 6202 bearings with bespoke spacers and washers to secure them. I bought button head screws for extra clearance.

      @@paulfloyd228 you're welcome Paul, sounds like a plan. Be cautious of the fit of the sliding parts of the frame, they can twist when you tighten the pinch bolts and throw your crank reading out. Best wishes, Dean.

    Brilliant video Dean. Between you and Dale you have the old British and Japanese two strokers sewn up. I agree with you about the BSA workshop manuals. My factory A65L manual shows all the parts etc. but lacks a little in the fine details of disassembly and (more importantly) assembly. Cheers, Peter.

      The corrosion on the cases reminds me of the Vulcan at East Fortune. It was very sad to see the sorry state of that aircraft, given that it was a Falklands War hero. Corrosion had really started to bite.

      @@carlwilson1772 it's a shame when things are left to rot. Not just for heritage, but for the celebration of the skills it took to make. At least we have a couple of them preserved. I'd really like to get the fracture surface of the case under a microscope, the ferrous infiltration is interesting. I might take it to work and see if I can borrow one.
