    DO NOT JUST TOSS THEM BACK IN THE LAKE LIKE A ROCK IN THE WATER AND IT WILL JUST SINK, THAT IS NO WAY TO DO CATCH AND RELEASE. THINK OF THE FISH.

  • @tedharrison398
    @tedharrison398 2 месяца назад

    NICE FISH BUT ARE YOU AWARE THAT STRIPPERS ARE EXHAUSED AFTER AFTER YOU LAND THEM AND ARE PRONE TO DIE IF YOU DO NOT HOLD THEM IN THE WATER TO GET THEM BACK TO NORMAL BREATHING . YOU WILL KNOW WHEN THEY ARE READY REVIVED TO A SAFETY LEVEL , WHEN THEY SWIM OUT OF YOUR HANDS ON THEIR OWN. NEVER JUST TOSS ONE HEAD FIRST BACK IN THE LAKE, AND EXPECT IT TO LIVE.

    • @JerseycatsFishing

      I’ve caught and released 10s of thousands of stripers over the last 36 years of fishing for them. It’s called torpedoing them into the water to get them down to the depth you brought them from. It’s habit formed from fishing warm waters for them. These fish were caught in middle of winter and were perfectly fine after releases.

    • @JerseycatsFishing
      @JerseycatsFishing 2 месяца назад

      If I believe a Striper is over stressed and overheated I will stick them into my bait tank with the oxygen cranked up and give them 15 minutes before I release them. In the summer time I do this with most big fish and incorporate a seaquelizer to help release them into the thermocline

    • @JerseycatsFishing
      @JerseycatsFishing 2 месяца назад

      This was a fish that was stressed from an overly lengthy fight and my release tactics were on par with the situation. ruclips.net/video/FoCoo3HffgA/видео.htmlsi=Iypf1B1mhI9i78xK

    I fish live bait, mostly Alewife, and shad, with boards, But I love the flukes in pearl and the swim shads and I have to say I have done just as good day or night with plastic, I fish them with jig heads and without, but I am leaning towards plastic as of late, They just flat out produce. I also throw bombers and Redfin, but they just haven't produced as well since they stopped putting hybrids in my lake, just all pure breads now. Still fun, but the hybrids love top water good vids keep them coming, but I know what ya mean sometimes ya just want to fish lol. Good fishing from PA.

    Awesome video man! That opening scene with all the boat traffic...ugh!! 😩 Great job on doubling up in all that. What brand of bait tank is that in bow with the oxygen tank built it?

    • @JerseycatsFishing
      @JerseycatsFishing 4 месяца назад

      It’s called a topwater tackle bait tank. A local guy in the Lanier area made a bunch of them about 14 years ago and they were really popular for a couple years but he folded up shop because his overhead to have the tanks rotomolded and plumbed didn’t leave much meat on the bone. IMO it’s one of the better tanks made for carrying bluebacks. It has a built in pump and filter system that you can direct to pump the tank out or into the filter box. It can run on as little as 12 gallon or at max fill at 58 gallons. Its one and only drawback is that it’s less than ideal for carrying shad over 10 inches. But trout, herring dollar billl sized shad and everything else it’s money. I can put 8+ dozen in there with it filled and the bait are still pristine by days end even on the HOT days of summer.

    • @JerseycatsFishing
      @JerseycatsFishing 4 месяца назад

      We bought one when they first started producing and it was great but sold it when we got the big fish bug and went with the Super Bait tank 50 gallon for hauling big shad around. Took me a few months but I found this one in new condition in Tennessee for $300 so I ran up and bought it that day

  • @Klagz1
    @Klagz1 4 месяца назад

    My last outing I asked for 1.5 dozen herring, but got 85% huge shiners/bass minnows and 15% herring. Seemed to work okay since they were herring size and extra lively, but might have hurt my bite chances a little bit.

    • @JerseycatsFishing
      @JerseycatsFishing 4 месяца назад

      The bite on shiner has finally slowed down for me. I was still catching them frequently on shiners until the first week in may. I tried them several more times but it’s been all herring for me lately

    My comment was a little confusing. I meant , I was wondering could I use planer boards on down lines

    • @JerseycatsFishing
      @JerseycatsFishing 4 месяца назад

      Yessir. Sometimes it’s the only way I can get them to bite in late summer is to get that bait away from the boat. The only thing I do differently is adjust the clip to be stiffer so the fish has to bury the board when it bites. If I don’t do that the clip releases the line and the fish makes off without setting the hook and half the time I don’t even notice since I’m moving so slowly

    • @jasonsargent9347

      I use size #1 gamakatsu Octopus hooks. 90% of the time I hook the herring through the upper jaw just in front of the eyes. If you go too far back into the skull you’ll kill the herring by stabbing the brain, to far forward and you’ll hook the herring in the paper thin membrane and the bait will wriggle off the hook.

    • @JerseycatsFishing

      That depends heavily on the day and weather patterns but if I were rubbing boards that time of year abd looking for a big stripe I would run boards up shallow with some big shad ln and around the 3 to 5ft eep range and have the spread with some planers boards on the other side pulling over deeper water.
