Manhwa/manhua still aren't a proper industry. It's clearly amateurish and lacks proper editorial review. Thanks to open publishing platforms anyone can publish a manhwa/manhua in the webtoon format nowdays. In that regard manhwa/manhua are much closer to web novels than manga (that usual have to go through editorial review before being published and can get axed if it's not popular enough). That's why 99.9% of the manhwa/manhua are boring and poorly-written self-insert power fantasy of some form.

Hey, I got not qualms trading a review for a small discount on a future visit. Because if I like the place I will want the discount for when I go back... and if I don't like the place, I don't need the discount since I'll never go back. But, if I ran a business... I'd be the guy offering the same discount for any 3-5 star review. And also the same discount for any 0-2 star review, if they included viable rational for the rating. I mean, if they leave a bad review and have the courage to visit again... well, a returning customer is a returning customer. If they can update their review, maybe find a way to track their visits... more visits that are visible on their review, then start increasing their discount. The problem I see most people run into is that nobody knows what the good ones are. They just flock to the popular ones in the west and they're all power fantasies.

The thing is all manhwa is weekly series while manga can be weekly or monthly issue so you can see more of manhwa these days. But if we are really talking about story telling, the novel version where some of this manhwa are adapted from are much higher ranked than what these manga are adapted from. I guess, atleast on the NovelUpdates. Also while it's a staple to s*xualize teenagers in manga, it's rare in manhwa. And I see it as a win to not resort to underhanded method to be called "peak"

There's just not enough variety. People joke about how there's an anime/manga for everything: swimming, music, sports, DIY, board games, fishing, scuba diving, you can go on and on almost endlessly finding the most unique and niche stories that are actually good and full of passion. Manhwa just doesn't have that. There's a some about stuff like cooking and music and such, but those stories are also almost always returner stories with systems. They're like all the other stories, just about cooking or something instead of fighting monsters. Also they need to stop using the same generic 3D assets in every manhwa. You read enough of them and you start recognizing horses, tea sets, buildings, flower effects, jewelry, etc. At least some of them make their own 3D assets, but those stand out like bad 3DCG in anime.

I couldnt be bothered to engage with the anime community anymore, I got into anime properly in 2016 and the difference from then to now is depressing. The tourists with their braindead opinions who dont understand the culture, people who criticize the mangaka and want to write the story for them, getting mad over the "fanservice" in anime and most of these people only watch jjk, mha and goddamn demon slayer but now they're "anime fans".

Doesn't really help that manhwas are harder to get than mangas. Some of my favorites are either locked behind naver or stopped updating cause of low income. Pirating is the most efficient way but that doesn't support those I truly want to support. Global distribution should be much better

Bringing the question of "will manhwa surpass manga?" is such a bad idea. Its only going to create a similar discourse to the console wars and I hope that thought doesn't spread. No it won't surpass it in sales until far into the future but it terms of stories there are series that either match up or not far behind the best in manga. Its just that manhwa at the moment is quite bloated with a lot of similar things like murim, villainess, and gates/dungeon series.

Tbate is imo vastly better than tensei, but may suck cause bad studio. I really hope s1 is good enough to get another season or 2, because while the first book is good, its not great. Book 2 and after are 9/10s or higher

The only manhwa that i have ever read that wasn't "ok", "aight" or outright bad power fantasy slop, but legitimately good, interesting and somewhat well written is Gorae Byul

I've found quality unique ones but they are rare and often abandoned by scanlators due to them being behind paywalls in the stupid "keys" ways. Queer works are usually more varied and interesting especially anything to do with ftm or female crossdressing. Korean women tend to actually have backbones in these works unlike in many Japanese ones where the girl would be found out almost immediately 90% of the time.

The main issue was and will always be the lack of creativity and playing it safe Most manhwa now are either about a guy going back in time to become op and steamroll everyone ,or about defeating monsters that came to the real world thanks to some system , or a guy that got bullied but came back after training to tkae revenge That's why when you get something unique like greatest estate developer, you get hooked

I love OPM whether or not the animation is good. Honestly I just get so sick of the heroes in anime getting their ass beat 90% of the time just to then pull out the win at the very end because of friendship, or because they believed in themselves at the last second. It's not tension building if you know they are going to win the whole time.

IMO manhwa has too many stories that are too similiar to each other not only in plot but in characters (especially main casts) even compared to isekai. This is even common in "popular" manhwas. The thing too is that art is good but there's no substance, like again the writing or having LONG pages of blank because "it'll draw out the tension/scene". In my time reading manhwa i have only finished 1-3 series and every one of those had either bad ending or convoluted story, I dropped solo leveling way early and heard how it ended and found it funny but that's me. If you loved it don't let me stop you. Manhwa just need to differ itself from each other or needs someone to guide these creators.

I really get the sentiment of how united the anime community was back when it was mostly just your average geeks that shared a niche hobby providing a great sense of commonality. A time when there wasn't so much drama and vitriol about different aspects of it (outside of the elitism) and part of me does miss it too. But I can't really agree with trading anime being more accepted and mainstream for it being a big social stigma again (though it still kinda is to some extent and its popularity just pushes back against it like with video games to a lesser degree). Not everyone getting into anime after its popularity spike is gonna automatically become someone that causes friction over stuff. Plus social media has gotten *extremely* worse over the years with most of the negative stuff being highlighted. Just imagine how much worse it would be if anime was still largely looked down on in the current social media age. Imagine how often people would get harassed just for posting anything anime related and how extreme that could get. And who knows just how big of a positive effect the recent jump in popularity has done to the industry outside of the bad side effects it's had on the community. I'd argue that gatekeeping does nothing but feed the negative online experience and that the growth of anime outside of Japan was inevitable. People are gonna see something that peaks their interest from an anime and decide to give it a try.
