I think it's important to know that a lot of the connections in terms of animators were also thanks to the animation producer Yuuichiro Fukushi, which is important cuz he still very much is involved with Madhouse's most creative projects and another one of the reasons Frieren and Sonny Boy looked so good. Because Fukushi's team and connections are still around, it's not that it's impossible for a show like OPM S1 to exist again. It's just that said team didn't continue with OPM. As for why Fukushi and/or other people at Madhouse decided to continue adapting Frieren and not One Punch Man is beyond me (albeit I'm more of a fan of Frieren than OPM) but ultimately, it seems like Fukushi usually doesn't want to feel chained to one project and instead work on a plethora of one-and-done things at least until Frieren. Not to belittle Gigguk's clip cuz pointing out how good Shingo Natsume is as a director is better than saying "look at all the budget that went into this show!!!!" but I just figured it's worth adding. And I think honestly animation producers can give you a better picture of the quality to expect compared to the directors sometimes: Ninja Kamui has the same director as JJK season 1 but Ninja Kamui had nowhere near the amount of animation power, while Wonder Egg Priority, My Dress Up Darling, Bocchi the Rock and Elusive Samurai all have different directors but a lot of the same animators due to Shouta Umehara’s connections as an animation producer

About your question, production cometee wanted s2 in particular amount of time, so they found team that would make it in this time, nothing else mattered. Even with horribly small amount of time twam at JC Staff did crazy good job, i don't remember main animator sadly, but he did crazy huge amount of work by himself and best looking moments of s2 are thanks to him.

The whole myth created about One Punch Man is quite annoying, it was not a production miracle or something similar, it was the product of a lot of effort and the person responsible for it is the exclusive animation producer of Madhouse, Yuuichirou Fukushi:
Bandai offered the adaptation of OPM to Fukushi, who decided to recruit Shingo (during the production of Space Dandy) to direct it.
An attempt was made to recruit a veteran character designer but he rejected the proposal, later the position was offered to Chikahi Kubota, who was not sure about accepting but was convinced by Fukushi.
We're not going to deny that Madhouse as a studio has its relevance, since the internal talent was used so that the production didn't collapse, for example the famous case of having Yoshiaki Kawajiri as storyboarder for 4 episodes instead of 2 as planned, also the Madhouse sub-studio, MAD BOX, which allowed the animators to get involved at a deeper level in their sequences thanks to being in the Madhouse building
There are several interviews in which the staff constantly mentions one thing: Fukushi made it possible for so many talented artists to participate in the project, among them Yutaka Nakamura, who didn't come into the production because of Shingo/Space Dandy, but because Fukushi managed to persuade him to participate by showing him all the effort of the staff in the first episodes.
Later projects have shown that Fukushi has been the key, be it ACCA, Sonny Boy, Boogiepop wa Warawanai, Zetsubou Funsai Shoujo Amida, Sousou no Frieren and Takt op Destiny, all projects where Fukushi brought back his usual staff.

If in terms of animation OPM S1 was a 10/10, we do get like five 9/10 shows every year. I'd say the "animation level" as a whole has definitely been lifted since. So yeah, we might not get the avengers assembled for show in today's time (though CSM movie is pretty close), I'd say the time constraints are the real bottleneck to great animation.

OPM S2 animation wasn’t even that bad, it’s actually pretty good compared to any other anime. The thing that made it look bad is because S1 animation was just TOO GOOD, which made the S2 looked VERY BAD.

OPM S1 is easily the best among the other anime even up until now. Meanwhile JC Staff wasn't known as a "good" anime studio but they're actually trying their best for OPM S2 during that time and actually did better than few other studios. Personally, I think OPM was at its best when it was still a satire/gag-like story poking fun at the neketsu tropes and overused narrative structures that plague the popular Jump series. But of course there is only so much you can tell by throwing monsters to an OP protagonist can kill them all with one hit by definition. The later Garou and Monster Association arcs are, to be honest, not all that fun: the author went for long story arc when it really doesn't fit OPM original concept. So even with the same animation quality, season 2 would still have been a downgrade overall.

OPM season 1 was a lightning in a bottle. Even if the show remained with Madhouse, season 2 and beyond would be a much less impressive product. At best, it might have Frieren level of production value.

I dont see why other Studios dont resort to some of better Freelancers more often, I guess the Best Freelancers are likely booked? Bc thats an Easy way to insure some quality Animation of varying degrees and types, Even Toeis got some damn good Freelancers…
Mentioned it years ago but Ufotable could certainly make OPM incredible but Id assume theyve got hands full atm, I also thought years ago Id heard Murata was getting involved in Anime Production n course we all know he started getting involved in Animation himself, I think you could get a successful Season out of even JC Staff with Murata n Freelance Animators on project, That said people set their expectations Way to high for Season 2, Imo had people not expected best case scenario Season 2 wouldve been just fine, Take S1 out of picture, S2 is say first n only Season of OPM its not bad, And Ik Ive heard lot of people say that themselves, S2 wasnt bad by any means it just wasnt nearly as good as S1 and I think lot of fans ran off with take that S2 was bad just bc it was As good as S1 which isnt case…
Ive not only got full faith in JC Staff to deliver a Solid Season 3 but its been SO long that Id take S3 in crayon from bunch of kids, At some point the demand overrules the quality…
If yall could choose right now would you choose to not get OPM S3 for lets say another 3 years if Ufotable or Mappa picked it up? Or would you take JC Staff here within next year? Its been 5+ years I think since S2? JC Staffs S2 wasnt bad enough for me to wait years more for someone else to do it better by some degree…

Most studios rely on freelancers aside from like Kyoani and Ufotable. S2 had many feelancers in addition to talented inhouse staff, the problem was the schedule was terrible. Also with the schedule being terrible most people wouldn't want to work on it unless their friends were there and the studio and director not having as many connections as Natsume just makes it less likely for talent to join. For example many of JJk S2's animators only participated in those terrible conditions because their friends needed help.

why Ufotable want to make OPM ? wat make u think it could work ? u ppl really think the studio will earn everything from the anime ??...... wow naive af
some free-lancer dont think "that' project worth their time, some it not well paid, some really stupid ( like... dont want to join cuz they know no one in that project ).......etc
      long story short : MONEY
u want stacked staffs ? u need money
u want animators have more time ? u still need money, The longer it ( project ) takes the more money it will costs, unless u are top 3 big studio in japan with big budget and large staffs ( not even included free-lancer )
Wit back then gave animators almost "almost" unlimited dead-line and wat we got is high quality, but the down side is since there's no dead-line and project takes too long to make it burn Wit money alot but they earn not as much from the anime itself since they not own the IP ( studio only earn from blu-ray sales ), to some point Wit almost bankrupt with 886 Million Yen in Debt back in 2021, that's why they gave up Attack on Titan after season 3

    • @frizen9328

@@imtrash2812 WIT did not give animators almost unlimited time, their shows had terrible production schedules with every season of AOT barely being able to get finished. Staff have said the studio is like a battlefield and what you see in the show is what's happening in the studio. CEO George Wada in an interview was talking about how they just finished a season of AOT and that staff were passed out and then the director of Ancient Magus Bride said he was going to whip them back to work when they got back. Wada also said the default lunch are energy bars, that they work all day and night but he still lets them sleep because otherwise they would die and that positive fan comments are the only reason staff aren't depressed.
WIT absolutely had deadlines, insane deadlines at that. Since S2 they released 12 episodes every year. The show was not given adequate time and did not take too long and burn money. They were not working on the show for 4 years during the gap between S1 and 2.

I do not know what he means by "MAPPA could pulled it off by different reason," is it because MAPPA could do it because they would overworked their animators? He was right but not for that reason but because MAPPA have both of one the best anime producer and director within industry right now: Keisuke Seshimo (Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man anime producer) and Shota Goshozono (Gosso) (Jujutsu Kaisen season two director) both of them have insane connection to top freelance animators.

never understood why they would make a massively successful anime and then change things up making by another season half as good. Like I get the studio was fully booked, but they should give priority to sequels of successful anime

Just as Garnt said in the video, even if they successfully give the project back to Madhouse, doesn't mean the quality will be the same as S1.
The director himself said that he wanted to move on to other project (after OPM, he made Boogiepop). So no, it's not about the studio fully booked.

@ilhamadigunawan5264 I didn't know he didn't want to do another season, that's strange, why would everyone be excited to work on season 1 and then not want to do another, especially considering how successful it was

    • @imtrash2812
      @imtrash2812 8 дней назад

At that point how u know how successful it will be in next 10 years, successful ? sure but it's not matters shit when they not even own the IP, so the only in coming from that anime they earn is Blu-ray, ok just let pretend it alreadu massive "successful" back then, wat u based on too said that they dont want to make season 2 ? there's alot of studio refuse to make another season cuz the it's not worth since they earn not much from that IP ( ofc they not own the IP )
Unlike Mappa, Mappa most likely own IP of JJK CSM.....etc so even sales of blu-ray not doing good they still make alot of money from goods, event, collab.....etc
At the end of the day it's still business and money dont grow out of tree also lowk that anime just one of many way to advertise for manga/novel to lure ppl to buy it, remember Attack On Titan ? back then Isayama want season 4 came out at the very end of story in manga so ppl will go to manga and increases the sales up, so it's make Mappa only have less than 8 months for part 1 of season 4 like wat Isayama wish

I mean, even here, he isn't entirely correct. Fukushi was the one that brought in most of the major staff. Obviously, to say Natsume played no role in the final staff would be incorrect. But, the majority of the people came in because of Fukushi.
I 100% agree with you, though. This is a step in the right direction regardless. Big content creators like Garnt moving away from crediting studios entirely for the visuals will definitely better discussions about the medium.

@@FTF65 for real he was so close for being 100% right because he did not bring Fukushi as anime producer.
His comment about MAPPA that could replicate season one also was so close for being right because they could pull it off not because they overworked their animators like popular belief but Seshimo (Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man producer) is one of the best aniP in the industry right now who has good connection to top talented freelancers.

2015 OPM S1 drops and its awesome.
2019 OPM S2 drops and its forgettable.
20xx OPM S3 drops and potentially may be disappointing.
The manga has finished the gaoro arc, and im expecting S3 to end with the completion of the gaoro arc.

It will not end with garou arc because it's impossible. If you would know how animation production works you wouldn't expect it.
It would at most adapt only 35 chapters out of 80 and it would take another 12 episodes season and possibly a movie to finish the arc.
