Social Media Vs The Artists - How To Grow An Audience
Today we talk about the places we all frequent (Instagram, TikTok, RUclips) hoping to expand our reach. Hoping to connect. I discuss something I wish I did when I first started my journey: ask what I really wanted out of my social media experience. As creating content can often override the process of being an artist, leaving us feeling frustrated and burned out. Therefore its important to know what you want out of it, so you can be sure to spend your energy wisely.
I share what helped me, and my personal philosophy towards social media. I hope this can serve as guidance for other creatives who may feel frustrated sharing their art on social media.

Analog Mastering - From DAW To Revox Through RTM Tape
Просмотров 9 тыс.Месяц назад
In todays episode we are using the coveted Revox a77 to warm up a digital mix by mastering it onto RTM LPR35. This song (Awake At Dawn by The Monroe) has already been mixed and mastered, so we are just taking it one step further by sending it through some circuitry. This is a great way to glue things together, increase some low-end, add perceived loudness via saturation and most importantly: ge...
Tape Machine Preamps = Amazing Guitar Tone
Просмотров 12 тыс.2 месяца назад
No tape? No problem. A unique way to use old machines (including ones that don't spin and need mechanical maintenance) is to plug a instrument or mic straight into it and route the output to your interface. You now have a very colored unique sounding preamp. And when you try a instrument like guitar, you can get very interesting saturation results. I had never done this before so I decided to g...
The JHS Colour Box Turns 10 - Console In A Box Pedal

JHS created a pedal which sole purpose is to add vintage British inspired colour to any source you connect to. Its now turning 10 years old and to celebrate they released a throwback to the OG grey color-way. Thank you to JHS for sponsoring this video and asking me to create a new demonstration for this classic pedal. I explore the colour box on 2 electric guitars direct to the Revox a77, follo...
New Modulation Plugin For Psychedelic Producers - AudioHertz FAN
Просмотров 9 тыс.3 месяца назад
AudioHertz has created another very eccentric plugin for us producers. Designed especially for those who like to get trippy. I spent the day recording this song and applied the FAN plugin to the guitar and synth in various capacities. Even tossed it on a drum fill! I was really feeling the results. Using this plugin thickened up my new Yamaha cheap Black Hole keyboard. It added some classic wat...
How To Record & Digitally Transfer Cassette (For Artists)

If you ever been curious how I get my cassette recordings back in the computer and what post processing I use, this videos for you! Using a Panasonic RR830 and RTM cassette, we track a few guitar lines and bring it back into the computer using the UAD Apollo 8 interface. You can use any interface long as you have "in & out" routing options. I couldn't ask for a more perfect sponsor than RTM Tap...

The Secret For Finding Your Sound - Why I Use Cheap Gear

Recording Drum Samples Using Rare Microphone + Free Kick Samples
Просмотров 5 тыс.4 месяца назад
Welcome to the first vvunder-vlog. I go visit a friend at their studio and brought along this rare microphone (sent to me by Anthony who I met on IG!) As per usual, hard to find any information on the Astatic 981. I was told its great for drums so naturally I went for kick! We are so close to 8k subs so I wanted to show my appreciation to everyone watching by giving you these samples for free. ...
Mixing Drums Into Cassette - Building Texture

    I clicked randomly on this video but I grew up with the same black hole theory. Except back in the 90s when it was all vintage fuzz pedals Random analog boss pedals and actual tape echo machines but they werent called vintage (they were called garbage). I found one of the tape echoes sitting outside of an Italian restaurant on a corner of a street I was walking past, and I had the sudden urge to turn and walk down. Nowadays, all that stuff is super expensive, but I had a bunch of it and it was all cheap, so I agree with your black hole theory very much. I used to travel also to find stuff, and I usually did. One morning I woke up and I have the strongest urge to jump on my motorcycle and drive 20 minutes outside of my town and when I arrived at the little tiny store, that sometimes had musical equipment and they had a piece I have been looking for right in the center of the display and it was 20% off and this was 1997. When you focus and make it part of who you are, it appears. That’s not some weird book they want to sell you. That’s just what happens. It happened to me.

    I've watched the video a couple of times. I love it, and it has been very useful for my productions. But I am always left with the same question: why not get rid of the computer and produce only on cassette tapes? Otherwise everything ends up being digitized. It is the eternal return to the same.

    • @vvundertone
      @vvundertone 7 дней назад

      It’s really about intent. Much of what I do is sample creation for other artists. I have a vinyl of music that is from cassette. So 100% analog signal chain. But I can’t do that with everything. Some days I just want to hang in my studio and make something that inspires me, or create some background music for another video. My attitude when it comes to production is embracing both sides of the coin. Analog and digital, using each one to enhance the other.

    omg this video is exactly where I am currently (well sorta). I've made about a hundred posts on Instagram for almost 1.5-2 years and obviously haven't got the results I thought. Now I'm shifting to RUclips because I realised how dumb I was to even think Instagram was my place. I'm gonna start uploading from the start of January and I don't plan on getting followers or even fans or anything of that sort. I just want to keep my ideas stored somewhere and I just realised I like creating videos. Thanks so much for the video man.

  • @RetroPlus

    I have explored both, what strikes me about analog recording is the pure simplicity. It's powerful in the way that it connects you directly with the music. I often feel so overwhelmed with potentiality and caught up in tweaking with digital that the final result suffers, and i don't even end up finishing the track. But when i'm using my tape machines, i always finish the track.

    Can you do maybe a video on how to implement something like this in a pedel board setup? I've got an old Tascam and certain features kind of possibly prevent me from doing this. The biggest issue being having this in a pedal chain means it likely has to stay on and thus always effecting the signal? How could you implement some sort of switch? Maybe chain it in parallel and have an a/b signal switch?

    • @vvundertone
      @vvundertone 20 дней назад

      That would be interesting. What I think may work is how you mentioned the switch. I once used a boss line switcher to great effect. This would give you all the options you need! Great idea really

    • @on1ytheb3st
      @on1ytheb3st 20 дней назад

      @@vvundertone Would you recommend at the beginning or end of the pedal chain? Is there any chance the pedal chain signal can hurt the device as it was not meant to be used in this way? Mine only has stereo out but the Mic/Line 1 (Channel 1) correlates to the "Left" Line Out so therfore I'd only need to plug one RCA cable into the Left Line Out. Is this the case in your experience?

    • @vvundertone
      @vvundertone 20 дней назад

      @@on1ytheb3st for me I would put it near the start of the chain along with other boost / distortion type effects. Although it’s always good to experiment. You may find a unique buttery effect by positioning effects where they aren’t typically placed. This happened to me once with a compressor and reverb.
