How to Score Bookbinding Boards
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.Месяц назад
Hello everyone, today I will explain and teach you how to Score thick paper or Boards as part of my Bookbinding Basics video series. To achieve a nice score you want the score to give you the fold you need without distorting or bending the material. you want a clear and visible edge. That is why you run your knife between 2/3 and 3/4 into the board. There are mostly 3 things you need to take in...
How to Crease Paper
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.3 месяца назад
Hello everyone, today I will explain and teach you how to Crease paper as part of my Bookbinding Basics video series. Folding and creasing paper are very similar things, a fold is made without the assistance of tools, and a crease is made with tools, usually a bonefolder, and will appear sharper than a fold. Folding paper with the grain is easier than against the grain. if you don't know what p...

Просмотров 2,4 тыс.4 месяца назад
Hello everyone, today I will explain paper grain direction. Paper grain direction is a very basic and important thing to understand as bookbinders, printers, designers or anyone who works with paper and wants to create books and boxes, because every material we are going to use needs to be in the right grain direction. Parallel to the spine. When you buy paper you will find the term long grain ...

As someone just starting to get into book binding, I appreciate all of this fundamental knowledge. But I really love seeing the box making process! There’s lots of book binding videos available, but not very many using the same tools and techniques to make these beautiful boxes. Look forward to see what you have for us next!

Perfect explanation, thank you. The sushi mat analogue is so simple but clear. For some reason l have a mental 'blind spot' about grain direction, l can't explain it but it is like the 'righty - tighty, lefty - loosey' concept for screwing/unscrewing: l have to make myself think where my hand is moving to, not where it starts. Sounds ridiculous, l know! I'll be coming back to this video often, l can tell.

Thank you, this is so clear and straight forward, l really enjoyed watching it. I'm not confident using a knife compared to using scissors but you show how controlled it can be, taken step by step. The use of scoring to reduce thickness in joints is genius!

Thank you very much for doing this video! I loved everything about it! Your instructions are very clear, easy to understand, and no music or anything to distract the viewer. Learned a few things too. Keeping a weight on the other side when folding the paper will definitely help beginners like me save quite some time! And using a needle instead of pencil to mark the spots again was something I learned today. So, thank you! I really hope you will do a video on the long-stitch binding coz I'd rather learn that from you and not any other channel! You have a new subscriber! :)
