I cannot articulate how happy I am to have come across this… I’ve been reading way of kings and I’m close but not done with it yet. I really needed to just hear people talk about it! Every single outlet I found are people just giving full spoiler reviews of the entire book, but I wanted reviews of smaller chunks so that I can consume more content as I go… Thank you so much!
I have not read the second book because of how they destroyed Tamlins character. I will not stand for Tamlin slander #Tamlindidnothingwrong
you did an incredible job with these part by part and chapter breakdowns. I just finished TWOKs yesterday, and let me tell you, Its great to be able to hear someone else talking about what I just read without going ahead and spoiling things. I appreciated this structure. I will be looking out for when you start words of radiance. Im thinking about starting it next week!
King is really effective at building tension. His magnum opus is the 7 book Dark Tower cycle which is a little fantasy, a little sci-fi, & a lot of bizarre (in a good way), where each part of the story goes in ways I could never have expected.
When are we reading Stormlight Archive book 2??
I have only read one King book. Firestarter. I picked that one because I remembered seeing the movie (1984 w/Drew Barrymore) on TV when I was a kid and was always curious about the book. That and I’ve never been much of a horror fan and I felt Firestarter would lean more action/conspiracy than horror. Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it, not upset I read it. I’ve thought about picking up another of his books but I haven’t yet.
you’re so beautiful honey😘💐
You described the same feelings I have with SK. His word choices definitely make me give him the side eye but he does have a decent collection of books to read. I still own quite a few books of his that i need to get to including the dark tower series.
Warning: I'm going to nitpick on your discussion of The Long Walk. I counted 9 things wrong. But don't feel bad. Everyone that reviews TLW says things that aren't true. It seems to be the nature of this novel. In order to discuss it and be 100% accurate, you really need to read it 5 times and take notes, analyzing and figuring things out in a very detailed way. Long story short, I listened to it 10 times in a row while taking notes. I understood how warnings worked around the 5th listen. They don't get a warning for slowing down or stopping. Warnings are based on their 2-minute timer. When their speed in the correct direction falls below 4 mph, their 2-minute timer counts down. They get warned when their timer reaches 90, 60, 30 and a ticket at 0. For every hour they don't get a warning, they lose a warning, which means, their timers get reset to 60, 90, and 120. So it's all about the timer. Nobody mentions the "correct direction". If they walk right at the shoulder, their speed in the correct direction is 0. Not saying "correct direction", one can assume every boy can walk in any direction they choose, including in a circle. I've watched every review of The Long Walk that I can find which is 1000+ reviews, and the only ones that are free from errors are those that keep it short and vague. People say 3 strikes and they're out. It sounds good like a baseball analogy, but it's wrong. BTW, you also called it a race. There is no finish line. It's not about who goes the fastest or furthest. It's about who is the last alive. It's not even the last boy standing as I can think of a scenario where a boy sits down and wins. Last mistake is people only mentioning the prize, but the winner also gets a large sum of money. Correction: Technically, there is a finish line. Route 1 South terminates in Key West Florida, but it would be physically impossible to reach the finish line. If they somehow did, I'd imagine that it would shift from being a marathon to a race, the first one across the finish line would win.
you’re beautiful honey 😘💐
Definitely a strong starter pack! Hope you'll give IT a try soon.
@@mikesbookreviewsWooo! Your channel has definitely inspired me to read more horror books! Also, IT is definitely high up on my TBR list!
Oh I love the first 3 you started with! Pet Sematary is still my fav King book so far, and omg I LOVE the Misery movie, Kathy Bates does a phenomenal job!
Gavin! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on these 3 books! Ok, it’s official, I MUST watch the Misery movie this weekend!
My first Stephen king Book was Delores Claiborne I highly recommend it! A mother’s love for her children and her struggles not just with her husband but her complicated relationship with her employer Vera too! ❤ I just finished Cujo (I recommend that one too), and I’m in the middle of pet semetary right now! I’ve also read the green mile and Carrie too! Plus as a Mainer I feel like I have to read Stephen king lol 😂
Top three Steven king books for me are: the green mile, Delores Claiborne and Cujo. Carrie was my third favorite but Cujo took that spot!
i'm up to book three!! i'm looking forward to reading along with you when you get to books 4 and 5 <3
Wonderful overview of these three King works! I’m not well read when it comes to horror, but Pet Sematary is my favorite horror book of all time. I’ve never read Misery, but the movie with Kathy Bates freaked me out as a kid! 😅
Thank you Johanna!! I appreciate your kind words! I can definitely see why Pet Sematary is your favorite horror book! There was something truly special about that story! For Misery, I can confidently say that that was one of the craziest things that I have ever read! 😂
I am not a King fan and have only read a few of his books (misery, salem's lot, carry and the dark tower series) but I love Misery! Such a great book! I also like the dark tower series
Misery was soooo good (and crazy! 😭😂)! I was not expecting it to be that strong of a book! I will have to check out The Dark Tower series!
@AmberAliseReads Misery is the only book that has scared me. But I suppose it didn't help that I listened to it when I was walking with my dog in the dark 🙈 The first dark Tower book can be a bit confusing but it is short so I recommend to read that and the second book before deciding if you want to continue 😊. I liked the first book more but I am in the minority.
I loved this! I really enjoyed The Long Walk (and it was the first King book I read properly) and Pet Sematary, even if Pet Sematary was a bit too miserable for me 😅 I’d recommend Salem’s Lot if you’d like to see another side of King’s writing - More of a community-based, small town horror - Or Running Man for more of that Long Walk feeling 🙂
Thank you so much for these recommendations and for taking the time to explain what they relate to! I will be adding these to my TBR!
Congrats on getting into Stephen Kong book I feel like the length of there books helps flesh out there character. Also I hate how he uses the N word in his book it’s just not right
Thank you! Yes! I agree with this entire comment!
Hey Amber "Happy Tuesday". I hope your day is going well. Even tho I haven't read a Stephen King book. But I saw a movie that's base off of his books Stephen King Thinner which is a good movie. And. Stephen King It 1990 which is a two part mini series. Which is also good. But I may someday get the books of It and Thinner to see what is different from the books to the movie and tv mini series. But anyway I hope you have a lovely day. Stay safe, stay positive, stay blessed, take care and stay amazing Go Read Queen.
Hi Rob! Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I am definitely looking forward to reading “It” this year and checking out more of the movies as well! Have a great day!
@AmberAliseReads You're welcome and thank you.
i'm so glad i came across this video. i've been craving chapter books lately even though I'm in my 30s. Anxiety, stress, and depression are at such a high for me right now and its just soo soothing in its simplicity. Ugh, I wish I was a kid again.
I am reading the books for the first time and am Half-way through the second right now. Super excited for you to get there!
I read Percy Jackson this year too and I loved it! My sister in law told me to try it lol. Love the cozy recs
i never read any of the books but i watched the movies of the hunger games. and i watched the movie and tv show of hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy. i liked the movie with mos def better than the show, but i liked how one of the actors that played the doctor from doctor who guest starred in the show, and then years later the 2005 reboot referenced hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy. it felt like it came full circle.
There’s a hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy show?! I did not know this! 😂
@AmberAliseReads yeah but i think it just aired in the uk back in the early 80's. lol
Waiting for Words of Radiance Blog I'm like 😫
😂😂😂
I started reading Sanderson in March and ended the year with only Tress and the latest Stormlight book left to wrap up the cosmere so far. Very excited to branch out a bit more this year 😅
😂😂 That’s completely understandable! It’s an incredible world to get wrapped up in! I’m sure you will have an awesome 2025 reading year!
If you like unhinged women and were ok with Letters from an Unknown Woman, give My Husband a try. I disagree with Merphy - it's the better version of that type of story. I'll give a few highlights from my year A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking - surprisingly great and fun. Sons of Darkness - Overly unnecessarily brutal and wears its inspirations on its sleeves, but intriguing. The Dresden Files series up to book 15 - starts slow, but consistently gets better until it's great, despite issues with male gaze and repeating itself My Husband - surprise enjoyment of the year - just fires you up and makes you angry and is a crazy trip Wind and Truth - Some issues, but very great ending overshadow them all, Sanderson does it again The Eyre Affair - Silly crazy fun, (probably not for you if you didn't like Hitchhikers) Area X + Borne - What?
I love these highlights! You actually inspired me to look up “A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking”, and I am definitely reading this one! It sounds right up my alley!
I am perpetually amazed anyone likes catching fire. Interesting video idea though
😂😂 For me, it’s the third book! It’s not bad, but it’s been taking me forever to get through.
@AmberAliseReads yeah 1st book is great but they fall off hard
Words of Radiance is even better than Way of Kings. It is widely regarded as Sanderson's best work
That always makes me SO happy to read, because it’s incredibly hard for me to imagine anything better than the ending in WOK! I can’t wait to read it!
Isn't it still the highest rated book on Goodreads period? Not just out of Sandersons books but out of everyones?
@@AmberAliseReadsYou know that feeling and excitement you got where the plot started really moving and just exponentially got better towards the end of Way of Kings? That's kind of where Words of Radiance starts off. It's a fantastic book and the pacing is done immaculately. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it!
Happy Friday Amber! I hope you have a lovely day. Stay safe, stay positive, stay blessed, take care and stay amazing.
Thank you Rob!
@@AmberAliseReads You're welcome Amber
Best book you've ever read??? That's wild considering Words of Radiance is much, Much better. This was just the prolog. And Oathbringer is my favorite....
TALENEL IS HIM (every book you read makes this quote even better)
I'd to throw my two cents in, I feel like Theo's action was always dictated by how superior and right he views himself to be, compared to the other guys and how he constantly projects onto Alicia. And I believe that is why Theo forced Alicia to confront Gabriel, not just bc he was petty but because that's what he, for himself, wanted for himself. He wanted to confront Katy but cant bc she was his rock, his anchor like how Gabriel was Alicia's. Theo wanted someone to push him, like how he urged Ruth to say he should divorce her but in the end couldn't push the words out like he wanted. Theo constantly pushed Alicia, bc he believed they were one and the same; "you loved him but you hated him" during their first sessions and that is true. In a way they both do parallel one another. I was kinda disappointed that he killed her like that, it didn't feel like him but maybe bc he was starting to spiral. And I really wished, we could've seen more of Katy and how she felt.
Man, it makes me so happy seeing new people discover this series. The Way of Kings is and will probably alwasy be my favorite book of all time. Journey before Destination!
"every word was necessary" .. oooo you have no idea how true that is 🤯
Your reactions are fabulous
Love your energy - keep up the good work. I will follow you through this journey and can't wait to see how you react to future books.
As a huge Sanderson fan who has read everything Cosmere, it’s really funny to hear a reader pick up their first of his books and say that Hoid is their favorite character lol. I hope you get fully drawn into his universe because Brandon Sanderson is doing something truly incredible with the Cosmere. Take your time and either read the different series in whatever order you want or do it all book by book in publication order.
Welcome to the party. Really a remarkable series You are very lucky that the fifth book has been released and you have the completion of the first arc. I on the only had am doing a reread, since I read the first three on publication. Good luck, great video.
I loooooooooooooove this. New subscriber here and i can't wait for you to read the next booooooooks!!!! I can't reread the books as if it was my first time, but listening to you and others reading it for the first time is sooo close. Lol.❤❤
I come from the future "That sweet King" haha
I really loved this book. Which is funny because i was intimidated by how big it was, so much so i kept putting it off. But, man, once i started, i couldn't stop. I'm probably going to read it again after your review series.
I was intimidated by Way of Kings and the Archive, too. But I'm so glad I did. There are so many predictions and hopes you shared, and I just have to say RAFO: Read And Find Out You are in for the best ride.
You are going to love the rest of the series so much!
I've been watching Stormlight Archive recaps as I am starting Wind and Truth. Your videos have taken me back to reading it again more than any others. Way of Kings might be my favorite in the series, but there are so many things that are set up in Way of Kings that pay off in the other books.... there are so many things you've mentioned you hope to happen that are going to pay off in even better ways. It is going to blow you away.
Hey Amber, this year (at 35 years old) I picked up the hobby of reading. I read 9 books this year which is a huge deal for me. It’s been an incredible experience but something had been missing. Someone to share the experience with as none of my friends or family read fantasy. I started Way of Kings within a day or two of your first video on it and have been keeping up with you since. So in short thank you so much for doing this series. It’s meant a lot to me to have someone to “talk” to about it in real time. What an exceptional/exceptional journey so far.
9 books is good. All fiction, or do you do some non-fiction, too?
@ 8/9 were fiction. 6 of those were Sanderson books lol I’m hooked
I love how enthusiastic you are while talking about these characters. I remember the first time I read the books, and I didn't have theories that ended being true too, but it is fun hearing you say one thing and my mind go "hmm... let's see what she'd say when it does(n't) happen. " 😂 Don't forget, "Journey before destination." Keep enjoying the books 💜
You’re gonna flip your lid once you get answers to your questions. Can’t wait to hear about them!
I love seeing people enjoying a thing I enjoyed, seeing the things in it that I loved, puzzling over the mysteries I puzzled over even though I now know most of the answers. Keep reading. Also, if you want to know how stuff is pronounced, listen to a chapter or two from the audiobook.
Such a wonderful review. I've enjoyed your breakdown of each part. I look forward to many more of your reviews.
I’m so glad I found your channel. I’m excited for your videos on the remaining books.
