Hi there! Our website has changed. We have also changed our business name and business model since making this video. Is there something specific you were looking for on the website?
www.soulmatesandsawdust.com
I agree. I bought this saw almost 3 years ago and it came totally square and the blade is a very good one considering it’s not a Freud or other high end products. I have the stand but am going to build a miter station for multiple reasons. The stand is good for small shops or portable use.
Glad you had a good experience with it. Thank you for the comment and feedback.
I have had my Bosch for about 20 years and the fence warped so that is impossible yo line up the right and left hand fence to be square. I even sought professional help who machined the fence and gave us more adjustment , but I cannot align the right and left side to get a square cut. So I am looking to replace with the Hercules. I have heard many good things about the saw, so I think I will be looking to buy one, when on sale. One thing I haven't found what is the warrantee?
The best we could tell is that the warranty is now only 90 days, it used to be a year. You can also purchase an extended warranty Harbor Freight
I found yall, ♥️🐱🐱🐱😇😇😇😇
Hows this holding up now?
It has held up pretty good. A few surface scratches but nothing major. I try to remind people that it's not perfect but it's a cost effective way to give your countertops a new look. I don't recommend it if you have kids or don't plan on taking extra care to maintain it. It will require a light sanding after time and another coat of poly.
Looks more like a dockey carry saddle.
Yeah I just bought this saw yesterday and so excited to start using it, but it won't be today, it's suppose to rain. And I'm going to use it to help put my work shop up so k can put my tools in the workshop and then have a bunch of logs I have to cut up in my yard where I'm going to put together a greenhouse and staging room for my wife. I cannot hardly wait to start using this saw. And start learning how to use my router. And then I'm going to build a storage shed just to put my building materials to store up for future projects. And as soon as I can get a couple friends together, plan on bringing my 7hp sawmill from my mother's to my house. It has a 12ft track, but I can only cut up to about 10ft logs. I can't hardly wait. It's going to be so much fun... I'm 45 years old, Autistic minded, and feel like I'm just now getting started in life... lol
Amen! Praying for blessings on all your endeavors!
I looked at this saw and really liked it but the overall size (depth) of it with its slide mechanism was a deal breaker for me. I opted for a Metabo HTP and it was defective right out of the box so I picked a Bosch with its slide mechanism “glide” mechanism. And the bevel controls are up front. However I do not foresee using that. But great video and review by real people users and not professional woodworkers.
Thank you for your comments and for watching
Hi. I am doing a bathroom granite countertop. Do you recommend the 16oz?
Hi! Yes, I think a 16 ounce will be plenty for a bathroom countertop.
What kind of poly did you use on red? I had a set of boards I had painted red with a white logo.. the poly acrylic turned my white pink. Thank you for any help!
Oh no! Your paint may not have been completely dry. I spray my paint and poly so there would not be any smearing.
Which granite is that? It’s nice.
Thank you so much for that excellent tutorial! At the end of the video, I noticed an additional piece of wood attached to the cross board between the two feet. What is that?
That was a circle that I cut out from the top and attached it in such a manner that it when the legs fold in, it fills the hole that was cut out. Does that make sense?
Australia is wonderful .. I live there and the spiders don't annoy you if you leave them alone lol
I love my Dremel for fine wood work. As a person of similar age, i've found that I have to wear reading glasses when I do any sort of abrasive work on projects with persnickety details. My work is usualy trim and mouldings on my Victorian house. I would definitely recommend this approach for fine furniture. It's just too easy to just chainsaw through the little nooks and crannies. Honestly it makes for better finish work also.
I was using the bigger nozzle and wasn’t too happy with the finish on my cabinets. I’m going to use your tip on switching to the smaller nozzle thank you. Also thanks for not skipping over the small details, it helps us novices who are just trying to paint a few pieces here and there.
So glad you found the video helpful
I just bought a van Gough... let me paint his ear back on. This whole project seems like you absolutely have nothing to do with your time and money. BUT, its your time and money.
Wonderful comment. Thank you so much for watching.
granite lets you place super hot things on it...does this (after painted all the coats) allow super hot things on it?
No, it does not. You would need to put something under a pot that just came off the stove. It does fine with a piping hot cup of coffee though...as long as it is fully cured. This technique is not for everyone.
Lighting is good
Great video. Just bought both and they’re both getting the job done, however, the Avanti is blowing air out of the hose where it meets the gun so I’m getting the air blowing back in my face. Is that supposed to be happening or is it a leak on the hose?
The spiral tubing may need to be tightened into the connector
What did u use to fill in the little holes in the granite ??
We didn't fill them in. The final finish is slightly textured and with the pattern you don't even notice them.
Go to custom fabricating solution and get one of his zero clearance inserts. Then go to shop nation and get the 3d printed dust shoot for this saw. Dust collection is fantastic.
Thank you! I've been wanting to make a zero clearance plate for this thing for quite a while now. Thank you for the advice.
From someone with a central electric and is good for the money. I would upgrade to this one . I was going to buy a Bosch
I have that same crash cart I use as a toolbox too! that’s too funny 😂
Very helpful, thank you!! I’m a furniture hobbyist and have a bit of experience with the gravity feed and the sprayer with a pressure pot. I purchased the Avanti version on this video and had an uneven result which drove me to search and find your video… thank you for confirming my suspicions; it is likely I am going to return the Avanti.
Thank you for watching and so glad you found it helpful!
I have the same saw, it works great, and like yours mine was also properly adjusted out of the box. I haven't used mine very much yet, but the few projects I've needed it for, its done great, seems to have more power than the old 12" Chicago Electric model I had before. I got mine on sale for $299. About 1/2 the price of those other brands, and honestly they're not as great as people want you to think. I've had all the so called "Brand Name" tools, and they still broke, they still needed periodic adjustments, etc. So why pay more to get the same results that a less expensive tool can give you. I also have the Hercules 12-1/2" Thickness Planer....it has 3 cutters on the head VS 2 that many other brands have, it does a great job, and definitely worth the money. If I recall I paid $349 for the planer, it was on sale the same time the miter saw was, and I bought both. I do not have the miter saw stand, I have a Black and Decker Work Mate that I put the bench dogs in, and set the miter saw or the planer on and clamp them down while I'm using them, when I'm done the saw and the planer go back on the shelf out of the way, and the Work Mate folds up and sits against the wall out of the way. The Hercules Miter Saw and that Thickness Planer are both heavy tools, I was surprised how heavy they were, I wasn't expecting that, usually the stuff from Harbor Freight isn't built as well....can't complain about either tool, they are doing very well for my homeowner/DIYER needs. I have a few of the Bauer cordless tools and a few Hercules cordless tools as well, and they seem to be doing fine.
Great feedback, thank you!
Nice video guys. Very informative. Thanks😊
Thank you so much
One of the better reviews on this saw that I've seen. Been on the fence for a while, thinking about replacing my Delta compound miter saw with a sliding model to accommodate wider boards. Your review helped me decide. Headed to HF tomorrow. Thanks
So glad it was helpful for you. I hope you enjoy the Hercules as much as we do.
Thanks for answering how long to wait between each coat. Forgive this question; but will the paint in the sprayer be ok while waiting for the first coat to dry. Or do you need to clean up the sprayer and remix and filter the paint between coats?
Yes, you can leave the paint in the sprayer in between coats. Thank you for the question and thank you for watching!
I never write negative comments, but this time I made an exception. Firstly this primer, whatever and however you do it is peeling off. And thats not only my personal opinion, a lot of people tried and they just wasted money as this is expensive (in UK) and useless. Is almost impossible to paint or prime over granite or glazed tiles - surface is to slippery and paint or primer do not adhere to this kind of surfaces. You need to show us after some time and usage, that this primer is still OK on granite. Anyway, I do appologise but this video is like promoting or advertising product. And that is not the point to encourage people to spend money for that
Thank you so much for watching our series on painting your granite countertops. I'm happy to show you pictures more than a year after this video was made. We do not promote any products that we do not use ourselves and fully believe in. We find slick stick to be a very good bonding primer. Maybe you did not prep your piece properly. Even though you are using a bonding primer, there is asignificant amount of prep involved in ordering for the best outcomes. We certainly appreciate you taking the time to make a very rare negative comment.
I have also painted several marble pieces using slick stick as a primer and they have held up just fine. There are always going to be those rare exceptions where a surface doesn't take well to a product. This video was not made to promote products. It was made to show people and alternative to changing the look of their countertops if they do not wanna spend the crazy amount of money to replace the granite. As Dixie Belle paint retailers, it would only be natural for me to teach, explain, and promote the products I use and sell.
To six miles up, etc. If you had any problems Harbor Fright would have returned your purchase within 30 days with No questions asked. As a customer for over 20 twenty years this has never been a problem. I had the Chicago saw for over ten years the saw still works fine for rough cuts. After reviewing the RUclips Hercules sites, I did my own alignment checks and still found no problems. As for my new Hercules it was set up on my patio. So, I went out and checked the square on the fence as you mentioned and found No out of alignment. One of the first things I do is check my tools within two to three days after purchase since I will be using the saw for close tolerance work. In comparison to the other major brands within $700.00 dollars, Hercules has become the best on the market.
Great advice and feedback. Thanks so much!
Great video. Patient, thorough and detailed enough for a total novice. Thank you, sir.
You're welcome, and thank you so much for watching.
😬
Hi again…so I’m trying to do this on ribbed corduroy and the DB paint seems too thick to move about plus when it dried it’s very thick. Should I dilute the paint with water and if so, would you recommend a % ratio to the paint? Tia!
Hi there! It sounds like you definitely need more water. There really isn't a specific ratio, just thin enough to dye the material. If you want, you can message me on our FB page and we can chat.
Nice explanation dor used
😊
I bought the Hercules miter saw about 3 years ago to do hobby work & has been very good to me. The 1 thing I don't like is that the bolt is that the bolt for the blade is on so tight I haven't been able to change the blade.
On all miter saws, you actually need to turn the bolt clockwise to loosen it. Give that a try and let us know if you have better luck.
You are probably trying to turn the bolt the wrong direction. Its a right hand threaded bolt....don't worry it gets a lot of people....
I am going to do this myself ill send pics of before & after
That is wonderful! Can't wait ❤️
What name brand blade are you using and how many teeth? Nice clean cuts
That's the hercules 12 inch 80 tooth fine finish blade. And yes, it makes a nice clean cut. Thank you for watching and for the question.
How has it held up? Any scratches? I assume no heat to this surface. Great videos. Thank you
It's held up pretty well. There are some superficial scratches that we need to lightly sand and apply another coat of poly. We can put a hot cup of coffee directly on the surface without any issues but we don't put anything fresh out of the oven on it. Thank you for watching and commenting.
I would have put a primer on the table. Before the pour. 😮
Thank you for the comment. On a wood table primer is not required. You would only need to prime if the surface was slick or if you expected some tanin bleed through. Primers are for bonding or blocking and neither of those were anticipated to be a problem.
Hello! Billie from Delaware DBell sent me here! Great work, I’m about to do a club chair with a camel saddle footrest (for realz!) -can you explain how you handled the tufted button area and creases, specifically did you paint under the buttons to make sure that when it’s dry there’s full coverage? Tia!
Thank you for watching and for the comment. That sounds like a great project! The creases and buttons aren't usually a problem because you are using enough water to allow the paint to get into those areas. Just be sure to allow enough dry time. Use thin coats. You may needs several more coats to get the coverage you want.
Loved your original granite! You ruined your countertops! Yikes!
Thank you for watching our series on painting our granite countertops. We would have to disagree that we did not ruin them, in fact, we are still enjoying them.
I pay very close attention to reviews, and I've not heard of a single negative review from any person who owns and uses Hercules power tools. One mechanic made a whole RUclips video explaining that his Hercules cordless impact driver, and other small power tools were more reliable than Milwaukee. Another tool reviewer said he prefers the build quality of the Hercules miter saw, and it's a better saw, for less money than the Dewalt. I found it difficult to get honest reviews on circular saws in general. The tests that some channels do, are not real world tests, they are just stress tests, and don't show accuracy, or ergonomics, or battery capacity. I ended up purchasing 2 "Flex" brand circular saws, because they have the best specifications, and best batteries for the money. When doing a comparison between Milwaukee and Flex, I encountered some critical flaws in the M18 Milwaukee circular saws. But strangely, when I tried to make a RUclips video exposing the defect, this platform's algorithm stopped the video from being seen anymore. The implications are that you are not actually "allowed" to make negative videos about Milwaukee.... Hmm...
Thank you for watching and for your comment. We can't really comment on anything you are describing. We just wanted to do a review on a saw that we really like.
I'm not brave enough to try this but I would LOVE to brighten my kitchen countertops. I have a small galleyway kitchen with no natural light. The previous homeowner installed black granite countertops. I can't even see well enough to clean properly. I wish i could afford to rip it out and replace it. I would rather have cheap beige vinyl countertops than black granite! Seriously, who puts black countertops in a dark kitchen?!!!
Be brave! We did it because we couldn't afford new countertops too.
I have this saw and I love it
Great!
Thank you for the video. The look you went for was exactly what I wanted to do over my granite. So happy I found you. Much more comfortable doing this now using the same products after seeing your process and end result. Thank you again, much appreciated!
I'm so glad you found this helpful. I would love to see how it turns out.
I will definitely show you when done. Thanks again.
what is that cloth called?
It's a tack cloth. You can get them at Home Depot, Lowe's, etc
Great video Very informative and helpful. i would like to see more info on you dust collect for this saw
Thank you for watching and for your feedback. We can certainly look at doing a short video on the dust collection system. Stay tuned!
@@soulmatesandsawdusttn One of the negatives that other reviews have posted regards the dust collection port not functioning very well with either the bag or a vacuum system. Really like to see your application. Thanks.
@@kellandreader I went to a site called shop nation. he is on you tube also. He makes a 3d printed dust shoot for this saw, HB74. It works fantastic for dust collection.
I just bought this saw but in process of building a bench for it so haven’t used it yet. However, after watching your video, I’m happy I made the purchase!
Thank you for watching and please let us what you think about the saw once you start using it.
