[Our Camper Collapsed!] Overlanding in a Snow Storm
Просмотров 10 тыс.10 месяцев назад
What better way to kick off a new year! After being sick for what felt like months, we decided to try something a little different. Our idea was to chase down a snowstorm so that we could experience overlanding in a much different way than usual. Well, let's just say that we were presented an obstacle we clearly weren't expecting. Yet again, more lessons were learned. #familyvlog #gladiator #of...
[WE FLOODED OUR CAMPER!] Overlanding Bald Mountain, Virginia
Просмотров 4,2 тыс.11 месяцев назад
As we continue on our overlanding adventures, we hit the trails in western Virginia to explore the beautiful mountain landscape. As always with overlanding, you never know what obstacles are just around the corner. For this trip, the biggest obstacle was water, and it was EVERYWHERE. From torrential downpours to massive muddy puddles, we couldn't escape the damp, wet conditions. Regardless of t...

We traveled to Windrock Park specifically to tackle two of the three "Jeep Badge of Honor" trails that reside inside the massive 75,000-acre property. Even though the "BOH" trails were not as technical as we anticipated, we still did not come out unscathed. Would you buy the opus op4 again ? If you pull up to a site for the night and dont want to use the annex or there is no space, is possible to not use it ?
Add to my last message sorry about youropus camper trailer. It doesn’t snow much down here thanks Mike enjoying watching your trip
Hi guys, love you Op. OP for love you Jeep too like to see more North Carolina looks nice
I wonder if it would have collapsed if the annex was disconnected.
Thank you for sharing your adventure.
One of the best ascent's up that Dickey Bell I have seen. Your pace, and line choice was very good. Most people lack the discipline to keep from punching the gas.
What a cool video! That camper is insanely amazing! What trail did yall off road on? It looks like a fun one!
Was wandering where you guys have been
I have that same 392 shirt
Pretty cool you can just wake up, unzip the door to the tent and walk to a running Jeep ready to go. 😜
The luxury of having remote start 😉😆
you shred splendid trip~✨
Thank you so much!
Can’t wait for the next episode!!!
Saved the best for last!
So glad to see something from you guys. I don’t know if RUclips wasn’t putting your content on my feed or you took a break. Anyway nice video.
Thank you so much for the comment! We did take a break due to "life," lol. But I think RUclips is throttling our channel as well. Or maybe we aren't following what the algorithm wants? We are so happy to be back and can't wait to post more video's!
This is the first of your videos that I’ve ever watched, I’ve gotten 48 seconds in, and feel the need to ask you if you have found a way to record yourself without the image being reversed.
Yes, we have! This was one of our first videos, and we had a LOT to learn, lol. We still shoot some scenes in "selfie" but not the whole video! Check out some of our other videos. Criticism is always welcome!
So good to see you guys hitting the trails again!!! Great footage! Love ya’ll!
Thank you!
Oh my goodness! So Great to see you folks again! Congratulations on your move to different "pastures"! You definitely came back with a Bang. Fantastic footage of that area of Colorado. You are good ambassadors for getting folks out to experience trails like that for themselves. Our Gladiator Mojave would look good with that backdrop too! Yup, Colorado is on our bucket list! Thank you for bringing us along! We look forward to seeing more of your adventures!
Thank you so much for the support and kind words! We have hated not being able to go out. Since we have settled down, we hope to continue documenting our journeys and sharing them with you all!
Glad you guys are doing videos again! Love exploring Colorado 😊
Colorado was a blast. Thanks for checking out our video!
Enjoyed the video. Good to see y’all back. Love Colorado. We went out there last summer and did Imogene, Ophir and Engineer. Was disappointed that we didn’t get to do Black Bear. Will have to go back
Thanks for watching! We are hoping to get back out there to check out some other trails again soon, Black Bear pass is one we have our eye on!
@@GoCarolinaWild Next time we go we will bring our Opus
Awesome you’re back, enjoyed the video
Thank you for checking out our video!
Good to see Carolina Wild again.
We are glad to be back! 😊
Welcome back. missed seeing you guys videos.
Thanks for checking out our video!
Hoping to get more content from you guys. We've been missing your videos. P.S. Enjoy CO. we've made the trip twice now and can't wait to go back.
Putting together the video as we speak! 😁
Where are you guys? You haven't posted in a while. I hope everything is okay.
We are okay! We had some pretty major life changes over the last 8 months! We just got back from a trip to Colorado, so we should have a video up within the next week!
😂

Might have to drive my new 2024 Colorado zr2 over to Caroline this fall up go driving in uwharrie on them trails. Going soon to upgrade from 33" to taller 305/70r17 almost 35 inch tires. Want to see how good my front and rear electronic locking differentials work. I bought my truck in that unique harvest bronze metallic color. Over the pretty sand duke metallic color.
I like them rhino wheels on your jeep. I am thinking about buying either green colored or the bronze colored rhino wheels for my zr2 truck.
Let us know if you ever come out this way, we love uwharrie! I have heard alot of good things about the zr2, and from what it sounds like, you got a nice truck and a good setup! We love the rhino wheels, just wish they were beadlock. Thanks so much for the comment and checking out our video!
This intro 🔥🔥🔥 just subscribed
Thanks for the sub and thanks for checking us out!
I have a ‘22 OP4 without the annex. Inflation time is right around 2 minutes. With my wife taking one end and I on the other, from the first clamp being unbuckled to fully inflated is roughly 5 minutes. Hoping to get the Air Canopy at some point. We love our OP4.
The OP4 is great and one of the best purchases we have made to accommodate our outdoor lifestyle. Even though the annex or any attachments do add on some time for setup, it's not too bad and definitely worth it for all the extra space it provides after it's been set up. You will love having the air canopy, I'm sure!
Planning on doing this later in the year after it opens back up. What was the campground y’all stayed at? Also how are y’all liking the Opus? Picking up ours in a few weeks
We stayed at Badin Lake campground. You can also camp off certain trails, too! We are loving the Opus! It's definitely one of the best investments we have made to accommodate our outdoor lifestyle.
Miss seeing yall on the trails.
We have missed being on the trails too! We are actually on the road today and heading out west to Colorado for the week! Stay tuned for some new videos soon!
Great video. I will definitely be taking the Red Beast Wagon there soon. Probably will wait until I get my WKO frame mounted rock sliders on (hopefully in around 3-4 weeks from now). However it does look like I would clear it okay now with my current rocker panel mounted sliders that I have. But it would be more fun not worrying about thrashing those new sliders on some rocks.
Yeah, it's a great idea to have armor on the bottom side! There are a few trails that can really wreck that area of your rig if it's not protected. Uwharrie is a blast though, you will have so much fun!
@@GoCarolinaWild I am fully armored up now with frame mounted rock sliders, the normal PW skid plates and a Dethloff Mfg engine-transmission armor plate. Getting 38s installed next week. 🎉
I have heard it can get deep if it’s been raining recently…😂 I have only been there once, but I may avoid it if it’s been raining within a couple days.
Yes, that water can get pretty crazy after some good rain. Did you make it out there yet?
@@GoCarolinaWild ya I’ve only been to that trail once though. Last fall.
Gotta get ya a battery powered chainsaw!
We invested in one! ☺️
We used to have great trails until they got wallowed out by all these Jeeps.
Still great in my opinion! 😁
You all are putting out some great content, keep up the great work!! I can’t wait to see you all in some dry warm weather!!! lol!! If you are not familiar check out another channel for ideas tips and tricks, Coddiwomple Overland, He has lots of experience, extensive travel ideas, and great videography!! He is always willing to share information and ideas!! Take Care!! Have Fun!! Stay Safe!! And for you all, stay dry!! lol
Thanks for being real and authentic on your videos! Love channels that have less subscribers. They are REAL. I was considering the OPUS 4 but I camp all season and I need something that can handle the wet nasty snow so I can enjoy myself. How much did you worry about that collapsing again at night? You get any sleep?
Thank you so much for watching our video and checking us out! It can definitely add a little more stress to the trip if we are trying to prevent a tent collapse due to snow. But as long as we are keeping the area warm with our heater, the snow tends to melt right off. Our collapse was because the heat was off, and the snow stayed put, adding all that extra weight. Rain hasn't caused any collapses for us. The biggest headache of it all is making sure to air it all out after we get home. But it has done great for us in inclimate weather, the air beams are solid and hold up pretty well! (It has even held up in 45 mph + wind gusts. 😅 Check out our first flagpole knob video for that experience ) I think you would be pleasantly surprised with how well the Opus will do in wet snowy conditions if you have the capability to leave the heat going.
I liked how you used your camper as a base camp and then wheeled with the jeep separately on more of the technical sections. I plan on doing the same with my camper (which is not an off-road trailer). Just curious, how long did you leave your camper unattended and have you ever had issues leaving it at a camp spot like that for an extended period of time? Thanks for the video.
Thanks for checking out our video! We have left it at camp grounds and right off the actual trail but never longer for the day to go check out some places. One thing we have realized is that the camping/overlanding community is (for the most part) full of honest people looking out for one another!
Do you remember if there was phone service up there? Not sure if I need to bring my weboost or not
It's pretty spotty up there. We have Verizon, and it was in and out thru the trail. We carry a sat phone with us because a lot of places we go have zero cell service.
10:10 you can see the electrical connector dragging underneath the trailer. You guys need some handhelds to communicate with during filming and spotting. I just bought a cordless Ego chainsaw and an axe just for the very same type of trail blockage.
Yes I see that! Thanks for looking out. We did get a chainsaw after this trip! Hopefully to prevent getting stuck in this situation again in the future. 🤣
Having a wife who wants to wheel and camp is awesome. Don’t ever let her go.
He couldn't get rid of me if he tried. 🤪🤪 - Kati
Come out west and enjoy the heat. I will be back east from Apr - Jun. But after that it will be AZ/UT wheeling and camping for me.
We are actually headed to Colorado as we speak! We are going to be hanging out in the Breckenridge area most of the week! Sad we missed the chance to maybe meet up. Where are you located?
@@GoCarolinaWild we live down in Tucson. The southwestern corner of Colorado is much better for overlanding. Plenty of places to camp dispersed and/or in a campground. You be safe while out on your excursion.
I have an Oztent and it holds up to about 3 - 4” of snow before I have to push up the rooftop to keep from tearing and collapsing. Run those heaters and dry everything off. Glad to see that the beams are inflatable and not metal, cause they would have been bent.
Yes, the damage could've been a lot worse! We are thankful that the worst part of it all was cleaning up all the water and a minor hole in our annex.
Come out to the PNW. We have an OP4 as well and we take it everywhere! Our kiddos would have a great time camping, as well as the adults! Cheers!!
We would love to head out that way! We are planning on doing a West Coast trip in the near future. Maybe meet up and explore?!?
@@GoCarolinaWild if ever you make your way up to WA… reach out and we’ll take you to great spots!! Till then, enjoy!
Wow, when it warms up some my wife and I will definitely have to visit Parsons West Va. BTW do you now have a chainsaw in your rig? Love you guys! Keep it up 👍
You will thoroughly enjoy that area!! But yes, we have a chainsaw now 😆. Won't make that mistake again 😉. Thank you so much for the encouraging words, and we love yall too!!
Awesome trip with the family, ya'll! Glad to see folks showing their kids the outdoors. Keep on keeping on!
We don't understand why people won't take their kids outdoors! It's a weird world we live in, that's for sure. Thank you for the comment, and we don't plan on stopping anytime soon!
That cave😮!!! Loved the video!!
It was massive! We barely even scratched the surface!
LOVE THE VIDEO GUYS, I would like to say IF ANYONE IS OUT THERE LOOKING TO SUBSCRIBE TO A CHANNEL I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Carolina WILD. ADAM AND KATIE ARE AS GENUINE AND KIND IN PERSON AS THEY ARE IN HER VIDEOS. LOVED MEETING THEM and the kids THIS PAST WEEK ON THE TRAIL. CAN'T WAIT TO HEAD TO NORTH CAROLINA AND run some trails WITH THEM.
Thank you so much, Ray! It was a pleasure meeting yall! We look forward to seeing you again soon!!
Nice video. I should've taken my girls out when they were younger. Now, as young teenagers, they're not really in to camping much. 😞
It's never too late, don't lose hope! Bribery works well sometimes 😂
What an adventure, thanks for sharing! I have really enjoyed watching your adventures and look forward to the next one!
Glad you enjoyed it, and thank you for commenting!
