Great build!
Thanks!
Just picked up an 06' trackday SV with GSX-R1000 body work installed. Your video of the install gave me some great ideas to tidy things up. Outstanding work!
Glad I could help!
That's really unfortunate the lean angle doesn't work well with race render. I was about to click buy, until I saw that.
That’s the Achilles heal of Racebox in my opinion. Check out my review of dragy. Their proprietary overlay is excellent. Their only issue is the requirement for constant connection to a phone. I just use an old one.
Hello, just found your video. I am not a trackday rider but I was wondering whether you can use it just to record 0 to 60 mph measurements? Would that work as well? Also, about the software: I am currently using Telemetry Overlay. Maybe you can give it a try, pretty versatile.
You can definitely use it for acceleration runs. Just put it into “drag” mode and you’re ready to go. Thanks for the tip, I will look into it. If you decide to purchase the product you can save 15% with the code ULTERIOR15 at checkout.
@@ulteriormoto Thanks, but I'll be getting it as well for a review :) It actually looks fairly big on the video. I hope it's smaller in real-life :)
It’s 3 inches square.
Can i ask you. Is it necessary to be connected always with the phone to recording??? Thanks.
Hello, apparently no, not with the Mini S. It now features internal storage.
Correct 👍🏻
Good video. How do you feel about the British Customs tail tidy versus this one?
I looked into the British Customs unit and three others in the article on my website. There’s a link in the video description. In short, I think the British Customs might be the best one available. It looks easy to install and it’s specific to US plate sizes so you don’t have to deal with adaptors. Plus it’s a little bit cheaper.
so if i understood correctly, that thing will automaticly start without phone and record?
You need your phone to start and stop recording, but you do it from the paddock, you don’t need constant connection.
@@ulteriormoto how does it know which track I'm at ?
The app on your phone has the location of tracks nearby. You simply need to select the configuration (if there is more than one for your track) then tell it to record “stand alone” before you head out to your session.
that's insane... however I would be cautious, because it says 1) do not use on hot bike etc., 2) first test on small surface! (why), 3) there are photos to use on dirt bike and 4 wheeler, but no photo of road motorcycle
The bike was not hot. The instructions on their website does not say to test on a small area, in fact it reads “Spray Nano Tech Bike Cleaner onto the entire motorbike including components…” I communicated with them extensively afterwards and there was never a mention of not using the product on a street bike. Their instructional video shows a Triumph getting cleaned. Sponsoring a prominent World Superbike rider would be a weird choice for an off-road product.
WOW... crazy, thank you for the video
I hope it helps
Awesome thanks for the help man! What clip ons are you running g for your handlebars? I have woodcraft and they run into the bolts on the triple tree.
I have the 35mm Rise Side Mount Adjustable Angle Clip On Riser Kit. If your rise is sufficient it should clear the triple bolts. The other option is that you can get the ones angled toward the center of the forks. In my case I have both the rise and that center orientation. If you go with the center orientation, you probably want the short bars because you can’t slide them through the bar clamps like you can with the angled mounts.
@@ulteriormoto Thanks man!
Hi. How is it collect lean angle data?
Racebox uses a built-in accelerometer and gyroscope to collect data.
@@ulteriormoto thankyou.and is it accurate?
To my knowledge, quite accurate. Operating at 25Hz, it samples data every 0.04 seconds. I have used multiple systems simultaneously and their data are very similar.
If you want to save 15% on it, use code ULTERIOR15.
with so many gsxr parts perhaps maybe you just wanted …a gsxr? Teasing of course. This was still great work
At this point I’m seriously considering ordering SV650 stickers because nobody knows what kind of bike it is. 😆
Do you foresee any problems with the round vs square? The whole time I am looking at your bike on the woodcraft, I feel like the set screw is going to break and since those are round, immediately rotate... whereas the Vortex can't rotate (even when you break the weld)... how does pitbull compare to woodcraft?
I can’t imagine the set screw breaking on the Woodcraft. My real world experience has not shown this to be an issue. I can confirm at least three weld breakages on Vortex from different users. I do not have personal experience with Pitbull stands though I have only heard good things about them. I think the Woodcraft advantage is the adjustability. Setting it only as high as necessary is really nice for lifting the bike by yourself because it requires so little effort. I also like it for tire changes so I don’t have to lift it much to align the axle with all the various components.
Has the data for the video overlay been fixed or addressed at all? I have a racebox and plan on using it this weekend at summit main for practice and races. Would love to do a video overlay for my other YT
Not that I know of
42 lbs!!!!
Crazy, right? Granted the 2003 was slightly heavier than subsequent years due to the steel subframe, but that’s pretty decent without using any expensive lightweight or custom materials.
Do u need your phone on you ? Or can it be activated & left in paddock ?
The phone must be in constant contact with the device, so you will need to find a place on your bike to store it. Alternatively, you could try the RaceBox mini S. I also have review of that product which has on board storage, so you can leave your phone in the paddock and download your data when you get back.
I've found the hardware on my bike corroding for no apparent reason...now I know why!
I feel your pain. They were not cool to deal with either, even though I showed them what happened. Eventually they sent me some polish as if that was the finish I wanted. 🤷♂️
Ya made me snap mine….dont think you need it that tight buddy thumbs down
I get how you’d assume some dude on RUclips led you astray, but these stands are terrible for that very reason. I eventually snapped mine twice. Check out Woodcraft instead-they’re so much better.
Sounds good… wasn’t trying to be a dick. Good looking out. I removed the thumbs down. Have a good week.
Thanks man. Sorry that happened to you too. I contacted the reseller and they had Vortex send out a new leg, and I just barely tightened it but it kept slipping and eventually it broke yet again. Woodcraft’s are practically bulletproof and much easier to use because they don’t lift the rear 6” in the air-you can adjust them to only as much as you need. I don’t get compensated by them, they just make great products. I used to say that about Vortex.
Thinking about your situation, here’s another option for you. Get the seller to replace the broken part for you. This time when you set it up, don’t install the spool bracket bolts. Lift your bike and mark the position of the bolt holes on the spool brackets. Set the bike back down, remove the brackets, and drill holes at your marks just slightly larger than the bolt threads. Reassemble and now the bolts will hold the brackets in place through shear forces rather than friction. They won’t be adjustable anymore, but they shouldn’t keep breaking.
clean!
I thought so
It seems like RaceRender thinks G forces are equivalent to lean angle even though it's not. You can be leaned 25 degrees to the right, but if you're coming out of a corner and beginning to stand the bike up, there will be positive g forces to the left. It seems like RaceRender is interpreting that to mean that you're now leaning to the left.
Maybe that’s what is happening here. It would explain why I could never get them to synchronize. Rumor is they might have their own video overlay in the future.
Nice , thank's for the share , I've never done any fork work. There is a suspension guy about 30min away. 😺
Sounds convenient 👍🏻
They are fantastic boots to wear, and I love how they look in tan.
Unfortunately I got to put them through a crash test, but they did great. I have a video on that as well.
Thanks for posting, fitted Evo tail tidy to my bike today. Your video was a big help over the manufacturers instructions.
Glad it helped. Please subscribe to help me keep going.
Has anyone used one of these in an indoor motocross track? If yes, did it work?
They rely on a direct connection to satellites, so under any kind of roof they won’t work at all.
Man after my own heart. I too have an SV and Bonnie.
Twins rock! Please subscribe if you haven’t already. 👍🏻
I gotta figure out how to change my clutch but then I have to do that after. So thanks for this. Very well explained. 👍
Glad I could help. Please subscribe if you haven’t already. 👍🏻
So can it record acceleration, quarter mile times etc..?? I don't care about the track data but I would love to get a good way of measuring bike performance.
Yes, it can do all that. You don’t have to be on a track. The same is true for dragy which I also reviewed. That product is a bit more user friendly.
@@ulteriormoto Thanks for the tip. I'm gonna check that review!
Glad to see you here still Godspeed ❤🙏
I appreciate that
Lean angle will not work on a motorcycle with currently available integrated sensors. The g force effectively is downward towards the bottom of bike through corners, rather than towards the ground, skewing all the data.
Racebox calculates lean angles and g forces entirely through algorithms based on GPS data. Bike sensors play no role. Lateral g forces are irrelevant for cornering data on a motorcycle for the reasons you mention which is why you select one or the other. G forces fore and aft (braking and acceleration) are still applicable.
@@ulteriormoto I never said anything about bike sensors lol The Racebox Mini has an accelerometer/gyroscope in an integrated chip (similar to what's in your phone), the chip can't collect accurate data for the reason I mentioned. Any data extrapolated from GPS data alone is unlikely to be very accurate, though.
You are correct about it having an accelerometer and gyroscope.
This look absolutely amazing
Thanks for the compliment!
It have two biggest problems, it's not compatible with Trackaddict and don't have video record support on Racebox app...
Check out my Dragy review. I can’t comment on the Trackaddict compatibility, but the video overlays are easy and attractive.
@@ulteriormoto good news! They are working to add video 🥳🥳
Have you contacted Bell about their crash replacement program?
Honestly, I had no idea there was such a thing. Do they offer a discount on a replacement?
I'm still learning basic motorcycle maintenance and just learned how to change my brake/clutch levers on my Street Twin a week or so ago. Didn't know I needed to lube the clutch cable, so this whole video was really helpful to see as a total newbie to this stuff. Didn't know how to do any of this! Thanks so much for sharing.
Glad to help!
Very nice video! Good info
Glad it was helpful!
Your content is flawless 👌 Thank you for all the SV vids
Glad you like them!
Stunning bike!
Appreciate the love 🤘🏻
Did you find they fit true to size? I'm 10.5 with slightly wider feet, wondering if you felt like you needed to step up or down a half size at all? ( Have noticed that in some boots)
They were true to fit in my experience. I wear a 9.5 E which is only slightly wider than normal D width. I thought they might be too small at first, but when they broke in they fit great. They were never easy on or off which I viewed as a positive. I had a big crash in these and sustained only minor bruising. See my Crashing Sucks series for more info on that.
great vid and comprehensive review! I really like the "opportunities" section. that would be a big selling feature for me. The video sync is cool too! Agree @14:05 the voice-over got pretty hard to hear and around 14:21 impossible to hear, both on my computer and my phone.
Thanks for the feedback
So what’s your opinion compared to the RaceBox s you reviewed before? Pros and cons to each?
Dragy wins on ease of data analysis and crushes on video import. Racebox wins big on being a standalone device and it’s technically more accurate (25Hz vs 10Hz).
Great review! Thank you. After watching your video I purchased one. Waiting for it to stop raining in AZ to try it out. One question and one comment. I regularly use an 8 mile section of almost deserted twisty desert highway to improve my riding on an Aprilia Tuono V4. It is an out and back circuit that I generally ride three times. Question: Will the RB recognize the starting point as a start/finish line when I return to repeat the circuit? I will probably try it on standalone record the first attempt and see what happens but I thought you may have played with the RB enough to know how it will handle that situation. Comment: Are you sure that your line would be the same with more speed and the same lean angle? Maybe your speed increased toward the end of the corner because you were opening up your turn while maintaining the same lean angle? I don't know, just a thought. Again, thanks for the video.
I haven’t used it outside of the track, so I can’t speak with any authority about your scenario. My review of the dragy timer will premiere tomorrow, so check that out too. You might like it. They push the off-track capabilities pretty hard on their website, but again I only tested it at the track. As for the lean angle and speed, I figure if I can do it once I can do it twice.
I just can't stop staring at the guy in the white tshirt, why are his feet pointing so far out... has he EVER ridden a motorbike before ? 🤣
He must have had an M license, but otherwise he just seemed to wander up and ask to ride. They had to give him a helmet and a pair of pants. As I rode behind him I was doing my best to remember my First Aid and CPR training.
Wow....if the construction is as you say, then those are a heck of a deal. I've spent more for boots that weren't built this well. Regarding the break-in, you're exactly right - a quality boot will have a break-in period but the outcome is well worth it.
If you watch my crash video you can see how well they dealt with barbed wire. Now is a good time to buy. They’re on sale for just $260.
We know from cycling that bike helmets should be discarded after a crash -- a completely different type of helmet and likely a lesser impact. But, do moto helmets need to be replaced after a crash? What is the protocol for that -- just a detailed inspection? Keep on nerding out, fun to hear about.
The white EPS foam inside is painted black so you can see if there is a crack which would indicate it was compromised. I personally, I discard a helmet after any impact.
Very cool, i always kick myself for getting a Ninja 650 over one of these, such a great platform
Suzuki somehow managed to keep the same bike competitive for 25 years through small iterations. The less said about the Gladius the better though.
Great review. The sizing is likely due to the added space of the kevlar panels. Other then that they look like they are a great jean and did the job!
also, I'd keep the boots and wear 'em as is! like a trophy!
I like the attitude. They’re definitely still functional.
great run down and review. Glad to see you back up and moving
Much appreciated
It's great to hear that all of your gear did it's job
It’s a good way to get repeat customers.
Nothing like fitting up new clip-ons. 😁 I like my 0 degree vortex on my 2022 R7 , old now just ride streets every now an then.
The R7 is a great bike for the track too. Just sayin’…
Good find on the shock , such a clean bike !👍
Thanks! Forums do still serve a purpose.
I'm so glad I watched your video because one of the main things I wanted this for is to get accurate lean angle data but from the looks of it, my Insta360 X3 gives me better information than the Racebox does! Do you or anyone have a recommendation for something that can record accurate gyro data? Preferably that doesn't break the bank.
Better information? How so?
@@ulteriormoto In terms of lean angle, the X3's accelerometer seems to give fairly accurate data, especially if I smooth it a bit. The only issue is any GPS/gyro data it records only updates once per second. So the stream needs a ton of interpolation to look smooth in a telemetry overlay.
The Racebox measures at a much greater frequency and it is highly accurate data. My only issue with it was that it didn’t properly sync with the video for whatever reason. When used with the Racebox app, the lean angle data is very helpful and intuitive. I went so far as to verify their data in a spreadsheet and there were no issues with it whatsoever.
@@ulteriormoto that's great news, I decided to buy a mini S anyways for the accurate GPS/lap timer alone. So if the gyro and lean angle are good that's just a bonus!
