Want To Become a Better Athlete? | Lacrosse Player | Full Speed, Power, Plyometric Training Session
Training session with a high school lacrosse player. Speed development, plyometrics, rotational power, strength development.
These are the bedrocks of an athlete's training. Do your training sessions look like this?
Not shown: Back squats, additional accessory movements, isometrics.
Biggest mistake I see most high school athletes make - they don't focus on speed and power development. Two areas that are crucial to maximize your athletic ability.

I know this is unrelated but I just have dumbbells and I'm trying to replicate heavy deadlifts/squats aswell as triple extension with cleans, are there any exercises I can do without the barbell? And would it be worth it to use a smith machine at all?
It’s kind of hard to replicate with just dumbbells - I’d probably use them for weighted jumps, that’d be good. Smith machine would be much better to use than dumbbells, and if that’s what you have, I’d use it.
How far do you set your wickets?
If you want better results, take those badly engineered Nike foot coffins off
lol okay
That is very very bad. That specific exercise can stunt growth and it can mess with the tendons in your knees and your back. If you want more information pls do your research if you don’t believe me.
I did my own research, and it is the complete opposite of your stated opinion (yes, everything you say here isn’t based upon research or facts - just your opinion). Please explain how this exercise stunts growth, but other exercises don’t???
@ weighted squat, jumps, and some other exercises that involve the knee are not a great option for youth because thee epiphyseal plates are not fully developed. And when put under Intense stress, pressure things of that nature can cause injury/issues with knee growth over time. Now box jumps weighted squat jumps and more are not a bad option in particular it is how people train using those exercises you can’t treat this like a bench press or others exercises and I saw in thee video you made the kid pause during the set that’s what I mean when you can’t do that like it’s bench thee knee is a very important part of your mobility. And when it’s younger adults teens etc there form will 99% not be good. And obviously. There still growing which is the main problem with this and it’s best to very very rarely do these exercises and don’t push them don’t push yourself in general on them now I did not clarify myself correctly my apologies it is how your piloting this exercise and how a lot of people do very little people know how to do it correctly I mean very very little.
I hope these young men understand how important these movements are teach. Them
5 sets of tearing your ACL😂
You have no idea what you’re talking about
I didn’t even need plyometrics to get my first dunk
What bougie a$$ high-school has this?!!!
How to cause back pain
Kid was putting in work!!
He’s a hard worker - thanks for mentioning that - he deserves to hear that from someone else
You're going to play catch with other dudes?!? Wow that's such a rare skill!
Squat University stole one of your videos :(
So?
How can we get in contact with you trying to get my son in to train with you in Dallas?
The amount of people that don't understand it's a flying 10 is crazy 😂
Why hold the weights down for him at the start? I do this exercise with other equipment I’m just curious about that part in particular
Super cat, if you haven’t done this before you weren’t a baller in middle school or highschool.
Kid is explosive, that is real athletism
He is - great athlete
why would that help me get fast and I counted to five he did not go .897
The time starts when he crosses the first laser and stops when he crosses the 2nd laser
@@JoeyBergles oooo
Brother I counted to five like wtf u talking about
Did you really count to 5 when watching the sprint?
lol fake
How is this fake?
you started the timer when you got your phone up which was after basically 1 second that he have crossed the laser
Fake
lol how?
This is a great way to add a plyometric training exercise with weight for strength gains in your vertical. I started using different versions of resistance plyos 26 years ago as for different sports. Depending on what your goal is, you can train upper and lower body with these types of exercises. Science is great and fun when used for these types of purposes. I enjoy doing things like this to get a basketball player jumping higher, a sprinter off the line faster, a lineman able to push around people more efficiently. The amount of people in the comments that are clueless are amazing to me.
Appreciate that! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience, and how you've used plyometrics for so long. Lots of people commenting on this video who have no idea what they’re talking about
We called that machine “Super Cat”in the 90’s
Still called that 👍💯
My knees watching this video
Why?
Seems bad on the back to handle back compression like that
That's not even 50 kg. I deadlift 150 kg.
@ doesn’t matter how much u lift what matters is how much your bone structure can handle
So you’re against squatting or any type of axial loading then right?
Bruh not training is when I’m most explosive
Hey man, im a 14 year old 6'1 kid who wants to dunk and I've been playing basketball for a year. I usually play on a concrete court, whenever I jump while playing ball on the concrete court i feel pain in my left knee, which restricts me from jumping higher. Can you please suggest some excercises of jumping higher while having no knee pain ??
I’d start incorporating isometrics in your training
@@JoeyBerglesAnd I'm really unathletic I can barely jump 22-24 inches off the ground. Can you please suggest some good exercises to increase my athletic ability and bounce ??
@@The3Snipercheck out some of the longer form videos on my channel - a lot of those exercises would be good for you
@@JoeyBergles thankyou it means a lot 🙏🏻
sounds like a camera man went through a couple hard sets right before the vid 😭😭
😂😂 If I remember correctly, that is exactly what happened too lol
I destroyed my back on this machine 4 years ago and it still hurts everyday
Hi Sir! I am a big fan of you, i your training methods.🔝 What is the difference between this machnine and a normal leverage squat machine? I would like to buy one, but in Europe i can not find supercat machine. Could you suggest an alternative?
This lift would be safe if it wasn’t for the massive impacts of adding 90lbs to ur body and jumping up and down. Why do you think fat people got messed up knees. Always minimize impact. A healthier alternative is doing a squat and focusing on exploding upwards, without feet leaving the floor.
Saying always minimize impact may be some of the worst advice I’ve ever heard. Thankfully you don’t train other people 👌
While this is safe for pure explosiveness he would probably still see more gains with less weight. With this weight he’s probably getting more overall strength then working his fast twitch, if you can’t explode the same way you would without the weight then it’s too heavy for plyometrics
These comments are very revealing on who the 40 year old out of shape guys who are stuck in their highschool days playing football(they never left the bench)
Love this comment, so true. 👍
who would’ve thought this helps train jumping i would’ve never guessed it
Love these long format sessions.
Thanks! Will try to do more of them in 2025 👍
Awesome cuing. Like the video analysis and follow up instruction. Do you guys do joint measurements/table testing as well for before and after a block of your programming? Been a subscriber for some time and learning a lot. Would love to see more youth training principles and system approach!
Thank you for the kind words and feedback! It depends - for college/pro athletes - yes. For high school athletes - it depends on the specific individual. For younger kids, I don’t. Great question. I’ll try to get more videos around my youth athlete system and principles I follow when training them 👍
What the actual fuck are you even talking about? You know what? Nevermind
My quads and calves are on fire just watching
Really nice video and precise explanations! Top notch 💪 As a coach really appreciated the work you put out, would be interesting to hear/learn more about your system. Thanks and have a happy new year!
Thanks Miguel - really appreciate hearing that! Was there anything specifically that I talked about or moments done that you found most helpful? Have a great new years as well!
I dont like my brain
I don’t get it
Vertical , you have it or you don’t. Much like sprinting , punching power etc
That’s what training is for - to improve. Or just complain 👍
This awesome to see dudes doing hip work. Your future self will thank you for this.
Everyone should be doing it, helps significantly from a training and performance standpoint as well
Nice
Omg I love my brotherhood of men. Add a whistle and call it a drill and you have grown men serious about their pilates
Everyone that has never excelled in a sport or has not education in sport performance has a strong opinion all of a sudden. Shut up and let the coach do what he knows how to do. He will forget more than half these keyboard warriors will ever learn.
Yup. Loaded jumps are great as long as the load is in alignment with your vertebral column.
Great Stuff! Do you do any online training ?
Thank you, appreciate that! I do - right now I’m unfortunately at capacity for online clients, and am not taking anyone on at the moment. I do have some coaches that work with me and employ my system - they’ve got a few openings if interested in that?
Are you still taking Clients Dallas?
@@AINewTechBuZZI am pretty close to capacity for clients for in-person training as well. I’ve got a few openings, but they are limited - what’s the age?
@ 16
@ If you can it’s for my son 16
Are squats similar to this?
Like back squats and front squats? No, they’re not similar to this
Great stuff!
Thank you!
I'm sure this exercise is great and all for explosive movement but now he's gonna mess up a perfectly good calve machine
