Well, as long as SMART was completely rebuilding the southern NWP, replacing a 115 year old bridge was probably a good idea. But SMART isn’t always very smart… they terminated the NWP tank car storage agreement at Schellville due some whinney types who were afraid that they would explode. The truth is that those cars were empty. In fact STB rules prohibit storing loaded tank cars. And, by doing so SMART threw away an annual half million in income. After all, NOBODY makes money from passengers. Not so smart, SMART… 10:10

I went to work for the NWP in 1970. I worked this Petaluma job. I worked that Healdsburg local and the Santa Rosa job over to Sebastopol. And I worked the extra board working from Schellville to Willits. Lots of memories. 👍❤️

Beautiful almost 3rd world ambience. Now if the politicians in the government would have a clue, this line should be freight and passenger train all the way to Ukiah. Maybe an adjacent bicycle path to add some quality of life. How to pay for this? The real estate around the train station mixed residential/commercial development town hubs with car Free zones. Sorry, I forgot that this is America.

I'm glad that there once again, freight trains running thru Petaluma, wish that the old turntable bridge didn't get replaced. I remember as a kid the freights coming thru with lumber from the mills up north, miss those days. Now we got the dumbass commuter train, it sucks with it's no train horn policy. Love the freights though. Nice video
