      Hey there! I am currently working on a shorter video for this series - it is going to talk about reskinning existing monsters to turn them into action oriented ones. As you can imagine it takes a lot of effort and time to do one of these - between the writing, testing and video editing, so it will take a bit more :)

    What is the point of doing the photoshop step if Foundry automatically converts my png to webp and I lose the transparancy everytime... I'm going crazy over this.. cant make a simple balcony! How do you even upload your image without it being converted??

    • @ThatItalianGuySA
      @ThatItalianGuySA 6 месяцев назад

      Hey there! Apologies, I missed this comment. As far as I am aware, Foundry does not convert png files to webp - in fact, I am using a third party script to do so for my files. Webp files support transparency, so even if that happens, you shouldn't lose any detail! If you are losing transparency, I guess there is something off in the process. You may try replying to this comment with maybe a few screenshots of issues you are having (like a link to a Imgur page); or try reaching out to the good people on the Foundry VTT discord core usage channel - plenty of knowledgeable and helpful people!

    Do you know how to have a creature with a "damage on being hit" ability like fiery presence or heated body in 5e automatically deal damage to their attacker with that ability? ie how to automate "player hits azer with sword, azer's heated body deals damage to player" automatically

    • @ThatItalianGuySA
      @ThatItalianGuySA 8 месяцев назад

      Hey there! This can be partially done quite easily with Midi qol - just set up a feature on the Azer with the action type "Reaction Damaged"- each time theAzer is damaged, it'll prompt you to roll this. If you want to fully automate this though, you'll have to script it - mostly cause you would have to clear targets and then target the attacker before the damage is rolled. You can check to see if there are existing spells/features with automation for something like this on midi (like Fire Shield), or check the Midi qol discord for assistance with the script.

    • @themanmorgan117
      @themanmorgan117 8 месяцев назад

      ill give that a shot, thanks. even if its a "reaction" it should take up the monsters reaction to use, right? @@ThatItalianGuySA

    • @ThatItalianGuySA

      Reaction damaged actions will keep prompting you for confirmation each time a monster is damaged, no matter how many times they trigger in a round - not sure if midi tracks if you have used your reaction at all.

      It depends on the value you select in Better Roofs! There have been some updates to both Foundy and this mod since the video was released, so I'd recommend you check the Better Roofs/Levels mod project page for the up to date values to pick to get that effect. Edit: once you are done, if you want to check what your players see you can add a token assigned to one of your players to the scene, then log in as that player in an incognito window and adjust the scene until it works as you'd like.

    Great job. Some of this stuff is a pain, especially the levels stuff. Once I've seen it work I cant not do it in my own battlemaps, it makes the world feel that much more alive when it "works". I absolutely love the AI in DA. And Foundry is a blessing. I cant understand why the hell people would pay for Roll20. Its painfully inferior and way more expensive in the long run.

      let them ask you one thing since you are so kind.@@ThatItalianGuySA Do you know how to make Damage over time abilities ? Basically i have a Tabaxi Monk in my team who has a claw attack that makes people bleed based off of his monk die. This bleeding can be stopped by the target if he uses an action to patch the wound . no matter how I try I can't make this work.

    • @ThatItalianGuySA
      @ThatItalianGuySA 11 месяцев назад

      @@stefanokodmar8110 the easiest way would be to create an Active Effect with the OverTime flag for Midi-QOL gitlab.com/tposney/midi-qol#flagsmidi-qolovertime-overtime-effects. Create an Effect with "flags.midi-qol.OverTime" as the Attribute Key, "Override" as the Change Mode and something like "turn=start, damageRoll=1d6, damageType=piercing, actionSave=true, label=Bleed" and add it to the claw attack. The effect will be applied when the monk hits something with the claw attack; it will deal 1d6 (or whatever else you set it to) piercing damage at the start of each of the target's turns until it is manually removed. Please note that this will only work during Combat! You can have a better look at all the available parameters in the link above; if you are having issues with this the best place to ask is Posney's automation Discord (linked in the video desc). Hope this helps! :)

    • @ThatItalianGuySA
      @ThatItalianGuySA Год назад

      Hey there, you can get a script to fix the link to the new actor the same way we do for the token>actor reference, but you would need to have the actors in the sidebar for this to work...which means you would have to have all the actors that are linked in the sidebar, undoing the optimization. I guess this trick works better with homebrew adventures than with official ones because of that. If you still want to proceed, I would recommend checking out the #macro-polo channel on the official Foundry Discord server for assistance :)

    • @ThatItalianGuySA
      @ThatItalianGuySA Год назад

      Although I guess if you have ticked the "keep IDs" when exporting to the compendium, reimporting them would fix the issue.

    • @ThatItalianGuySA
      @ThatItalianGuySA Год назад

      Finally, you could replace the reference to the sidebar actor to a compendium actor - this will keep the link intact even if you remove the sidebar one. Again, a script is probably the best way to do this in bulk.

      The secondary (but really important) effect of running fvttoptimizer is that the database(s) that use the image are also updated to use the new one. I'm not super familiar with how The Forge works, but if it's just hosting your content online, then: * Downloading your full world (assuming the assets you want to optimize are inside that folder) * Running the optimizer on the world * Reuploding your world with the optimized assets/updated .db files should do the trick. Please note that the optimizer has to be used on files that are inside the Foundry /Data/ directory for it to work! Also note that this is not going to update any .db file still on The Forge that may be sharing the same visual assets.

    • @ThatItalianGuySA
      @ThatItalianGuySA 2 года назад

      Thanks! You can play around with the grid size in Foundry until you find an hex size that works will the features on your map; once you have that size, you can open your hexagon image and resize the width to match the grid size (IE: in the ToA example, it's 56 pixels width; in the DoD example it's 150). Most photo editing softwares will automatically adjust the height of the picture to the same % as the width you've set, so you only really care about getting the right width (hexagons are not as wide as they are tall). Once you've done this, the hexagons will fit your grid perfectly.

    I followed the steps and everything works well. However, I have a weird issue that when the tokens walk around the second floor, and go back to the first. areas are revealed from the fog that they only walked over on the second floor. Did you run into this?

    • @ThatItalianGuySA
      @ThatItalianGuySA 2 года назад

      The problem is with something I have not addressed in the video but that is easily fixed: the line of sight in the Levels module is calculated by drawing an actuak line from the token and see if it intersects with the "polygon" that represents each level of the house's floor. This is normally done automatically when the shape of the building is simple (IE: only outer walls) but the algorithm gets tripped by internal walls. To fix this: if you open up your second floor tile, you'll probably see some weird white-and-green lines all over the place - that's the shape that the algorithm thinks your second story floor has. You'll notice hole through which the token on the second floor can "see through" to the first floor. In the Overhead tab for the 2nd floor tile, you'll see a "Define Polygon" button. Press that, then select (using shift+click) all the wall sections that represent the shape of your second story - the "external" walls of your building. Make sure you have patience and select ALL the wall segments (it's easy to miss one here and there); once you've done that click "Define Polygon" again and you'll see a list of all the walls IDs in the "Selected Walls" field. Update your tile and the shape of your floor should now match the actual image. The issue should now be resolved!

      EDIT: or you could just use these and resize them to match your grid! imgur.com/a/Zcj3h4N You need the image to have a transparent background, so a .jpeg won't work. If you don't have access to a photo editor capable of handling transparency, you can use this Wikipedia image from the Hexagon article upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/99/Hexagon.svg/278px-Hexagon.svg.png Make sure you resize the image to match the width of your hexagonal grid in Foundry - height will auto adjust when you resize it in a photo editing app, but if you are doing this in Foundry you'll have to find the proportion yourself. If you cannot use an editor to color it, you can use the Tint color on the tile itself in Foundry.

    Nice! Did you also created standard encounter maps to resolve the random encounters or are you doing theather of the mind?

      I generally use battlemamps for random encounters; my plan is to release a follow-up video to this once the new Monk's release is out - since there is a fix I'm awaiting for to complete part of the automation for the battlemap encounters.

    that looked awesome, like a lot of work and could probably be fun to build and I hope gets reused a lot if you go through the trouble, but awesome

    I dunno, I feel like dungeondraft is the better foundry/levels tool. Seems like more work in alchemist.

      I think that, right now, DA is better if you want to crank out a large amount of buildings fast, as long as you don't care too much about them having specific features/decor (or if you want to create several alternate skins for Farmhouse #3); and DD is better if you want to create a bespoke building. The procedural generation is a real time saver if you don't have to go back and manually adjust stuff. I'm really looking forward to some of the features in the roadmap www.dungeonalchemist.com/roadmap since DA is just out in Early Access - the 1-button-dungeon in particular seems like it could be great to setup a oneshot adventure or to have a good foundation for a nice battlemap.

      Honestly, I really enjoy using DA for cranking out lots of wilderness scenes. In 30 minutes I can get five different "road through broadleaf forest" and it looks really good.
