Norann & Chris - Duo Down Under
Австралия
Добавлен 29 мар 2021
We're a husband-wife team of genuine Ausmericans who've called Australia home for over twenty years, while raising three sons and participating in the adventure of faith community as members of the Bruderhof. As we navigate our mid-40s and come to terms with an emptying nest, we've found that recording videos for our channel gives us an excuse to sit down and exchange ideas - on faith, friends & family, and food, for starters - and hopefully offers encouragement to our viewers. We welcome comments, (constructive) criticism, and questions.

Looking for Christmas - our cover of a Clint Black holiday favorite
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.2 месяца назад
Ever since our three sons were little, country artist Clint Black's "Looking for Christmas" album has been a featured part of the holiday soundtrack in our home. Now that we're all grown up, we treasure the memories of Christmases past, even as we celebrate the new paths life opens for each of us. This simple song captures those sentiments well. More than that, it invites each of us to go beyon...

Hi friends. Just checking in to say g'day, this time from the bank of the lovely Swan Brook (or creek) that runs through the Danthonia Bruderhof landscape. We share some ways we're adjusting to life with no kids in the house, and things we're doing as a family and community to stay busy. Also some updates on our youngest son, who's absolutely loving his senior year (12th grade) at The Mount Aca...
Why we love living in an intergenerational community

One of our viewers asked us what it is about community that brings peace to those who choose this way of life. Great question, with multiple answers, on numerous levels! In this video we talk about one aspect we love: the intergenerational nature of our Bruderhof community and the peace - and joy - created when people of all ages are valued. Here's the link Chris references, to Norann's latest ...

Christmas Without You - an original Christmas song for anyone who's lost someone they love

How do you celebrate Christmas when someone you love is gone for good? Our oldest son, Jordan, wrote this song in memory of his grandfather, who passed away a few weeks before Christmas, in November 2021. Jordan recorded it this Christmas, and he and Chris made this video. Jordan invited us to share it our our channel, as an encouragement to anyone who's missing a loved one this Christmastime. ...

Hey friends. This week we thought it would be fun to share a few things we've been up to recently, from catering birthday parties, to celebrating a wedding here at the Danthonia Bruderhof community. At the same time, though, we cannot forget the many people who suffer in in this war-torn world. And with the "Voice to Parliament" referendum taking place this weekend in Australia, we remind each ...

Talking about gratitude & Bonhoeffer on our evening stroll
Where do I start with something like this? All my curiosity has been leading me to this. From self sustainable "off-grid" living 4 years ago to seed generation and soil components during lockdown and finally water resourcing and conservation. I highly doubt that this is taught in "higher" education so my question is where do I begin to integrate this knowledge and practice into my life?
Absolutely interesting😅thanks for sharing. Lol.
Love this stuff. We only have a few acres but doing some stuff and it’s exciting to see it transform.
Good luck I'm doing the same

Still beautiful. Still holy. Always Christmas.
Sorry Jordan, another year on and your song still didn't elicit a smile - but how beautiful it is!
What a wonderful year it has been! Here's to another year of even more faith, hope, love, and peace! And Volls!
Cities also need to catch water too, fill up the aquifers down below. At my suburban home in Cape Town, South Africa, I dug a trench to catch the water from my roof gutters and soak it into the soil. I also planted 2 trees at the edges of the trench that as they get bigger will shade my water catchment area. Food forest in the future.
Congratulations on Jordan being engaged to being Maddy im very happy to see them next year including you two Chris and Norann love from your number 1 fan inverell Connections Senior Sergeant Will Ryan ❤

Hi you two! great to hear from you again! With all the problems of the world, the prayer I offer this Christmas is the last verse of what I call the 'Master Carol': O holy Child of Bethlehem Descend to us we pray Cast out our sin and enter in Be born in us today. We hear the Christmas angels The great glad tidings tell O come to us, abide with us, Our Lord Emmanuel! x
@@andrewdewitt7234 Amen! Hope you are enjoying a lovely Christmas.
The need of "Trying again" becomes harder for me. Will the really never end? The entire life an attempt to live?
@@GreenJack451 Check out Philippians 3:12-14 for some inspiration 😉. Yes, the thrill of living is in the trying - knowing the 'author and perfecter of our faith' has already welcomed us just as we are. Forgiveness can become a way of being - 70 x 7... Courage for the New Year, friend. 🙏
Norann, you would be such a cute little elf.
Hi you two. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas. Can't believe the boys are so grown. Exciting times ahead. Would love to be with you, hopefully sometime this year. Plastic trees are the best. The song may be simple but the message is profound. Glorious voices, a beautiful video. And I loved Bear's end-credit cameo!

Wonderful harmonies and great video production. Thank you! May the hope and peace of Christmas be with you and yours.
Thank you, dear Andrew, for all your encouragement and support throughout the year. This Christmas will be an extra-special one in our home, as our oldest son, Jordan, is looking forward to getting married in January. A new chapter begins for our family. With our love and prayers for you and your family this Christmastime, C&N
Great job stunning harmonies
Quick question - Who films and creates your videos? Looks like a lot of hard work went into this one. Thank you!
👋That'd be Chris. 😊
very well done. as the father of five, i particularly love all the family photos. blessed christmas to you all.
Thank you, Bill - and we wish you and your family and wonderful Christmas season too!
What a beautiful song of Christmas welcoming in the holiday season. I was not familiar with this song, but it touched me within the first few bars. The harmonizing is lovely. Thank you.
So happy you enjoyed it, Vivian. Wishing you and your loved ones a blessed Advent and Christmas season.
Your sons are a real credit to you. My boys would look at me like I had two heads if I asked them to sing together and be filmed. I’m going to play it to them the next time I see them and say “would you do this for me?” lol I already know the answer…. What a beautiful song. You are very blessed to be surrounded by boys who will sing together ❤️
Singing together as a family is something we've enjoyed ever since our kids were babies. There are so many ways for families to express themselves - as you well know <g>! Wishing you and your loved ones a blessed Christmastime. C&N
What a beautiful thing to wake up to. So lovely to hear their wonderful voices! The only singing that ever goes on in this house is in the shower lol
Revisiting these this morning. Can you ask Jordan if he would be happy to share his poem with us, the one he talks about in this video? I’m sure it will generate an interesting discussion
Well, since you asked... Here's the ironic(?) poem Jordan wrote, which he mentions at 08:33 in the video. Please don't cancel him (or us) because of it - lol! University They said it’s a place of free ideas and thoughts, a space to learn, make friends and talk about what you believe, or think or feel, but what they said is not really real. ‘Cause you can have your own thoughts and write openly, as long as it’s the same as what your marker agrees, and does not challenge the social norms but strictly to the standard conforms. What happened to respectful, informed discussion, disagreement, not labelled “discrimination”? I guess if there’s no line between truth and bigotry, then anything you say could offend somebody. So, compromise your thoughts, just write for the grade. Screw your beliefs, you’ll pass easy that way.
I thought it was excellent. His lecturer missed an opportunity for further discussion there. I think it would have generated an interesting discussion with the class as a whole.
Tripping down memory lane with you two this morning 😊
Definitely a blast from the past 😄. Thank you for being alongside us.
It’s a shame Peter Andrew’s work is being subsumed by green ideology here. Peter had no time for Greens. They were hostile to him blocking water ways, diverting water across floodplains and of course his liberal use of weeds which drove greens nuts. As to “he learned it all from aboriginals he grew up with” is pure misinformation. He learned from early explorer journals’ descriptions and he reckons some aboriginal paintings depict the many stream floodplains. The origins of his learning of plant diversity came from visiting a horse farm in England. The rest came from his mind and study of the landscape. Peter’s main points is to store water underground, the Sandy topsoil perched on a clay bed is the sponge, that he sends water through rather than straight down the drain (river). He wasn’t impressed with keyline farming or any kind engineering solution. Lots of farms around that area do the contour levees, this is not unique to green “regenerative” farming.
And the long term water storage is done in the clay beds and the main aim is to fill those beds of clay during rain periods so it gets the landscape through the long droughts. He also thought btw that climate change was a load of BS, which it is.
Peter Andrews has been an inspiration and a trusted advisor of ours for the better part of two decades. We count ourselves lucky to benefit from his direct input into projects at Danthonia, alongside other thought-leaders (including the Mulloon Institute) in sustainable landscape management and hydrology. It's not about ideology, but measurable results and long-term stewardship.
@ I agree. So why did you add all the ideology?
Thanks
Really enjoyed seeing you two again, seems like it's been quite a while. Thank you for sharing your beautiful, peaceful part of the world, and all your love. But I'm terrified of lightening too!!!

Hello you two lovely people. You really are living in a beautiful part of the New England. It is so verdant there, peaceful and living your best life. I love everything you stand for and living in your community is such a blessing❤ and I enjoy witnessing it from my screen. 🙏🏻🥰
Norann and Chris live in New South Wales, Australia, at the Danthonia Bruderhof community there. Perhaps you were confused because part of the video is from New York State USA, where one of their sons is attending school at The Mount Academy.
Thank you so much! It's been an amazingly beautiful spring - cool (for the most part), with frequent showers. So everything is leafing and flowering in full glory. Over the years, as a community we've planted many trees and flowering shrubs on the property, and they're really coming into their own now. (Of course, we know from experience that dry times are an inevitable part of reality here, so all the more we cherish those seasons when 'verdant' is the word!) Have a wonderful weekend, Elizabeth! C&N
Both here and in NY, folks from Britain saw similarities in the landscapes and named their new surrounds 'New England'. (Guess it says a lot for England, or nostalgia, hey!)

Experiencing this first hand during my now 5 visits to Danthonia has filled a gap in my life. I’ll never be a grandma so being called exact that by a lovely 5-year old girl just filled me with joy, and peace in my situation.
It's amazing to live in the future - where humans are beginning to learn we are the No.1 keystone species on this planet. Wow! Allen Savory presents a very strong case for periodic heavy grazing being the missing element in land recovery. ruclips.net/video/vpTHi7O66pI/видео.html It seems heavy grazing, and trampling, by massive herds, followed by a recovery period is often necessary to prevent land degradation. Where stock have been removed from degraded land in the USA, the degradation rate increases.
CO2 is plant food.
Thanks.. I'm currently working with farmers in the Sahel where lack of water and desertification is a major issue. Its ironic that areas with drought and desertification usually also have cases of flooding. I guess the key for us is water retention to enable us to make maximum use of the water during the periods of flooding.
Thank you for sharing knowledge!
If you crash graze the trees for a short time each season after they are established the puning will promote growth of branches and leaves and reduce the need to mow if you incorporate some tree's to this system that you can chop and compost it will be more productive for you and the nature that enjoys compost 🤔✌️
