How To Make More Money As A Therapist.
Are you a therapist looking to boost your income and make more money in your business?
If you're a therapist seeking to expand your income beyond client sessions, this video is tailored to your needs.
👉 PROBLEM - Many therapists are only making an income when they are with a client.

    My former therapist of 6 years began to take trips the last couple years. As the final couple years progressed the trips got longer and more often. By the end he was taking 3-5 trips per year of 3-6 weeks each. Thats too much. I thought maybe he was trying to close out his practice but apparently not. During his most recent trip I found a new therapist and started seeing her before he left. He didn’t seem to mind. He came back 6 weeks later and texted me at 11 pm the night before our regular session and said “see you tomorrow at 10 am our normal time?” I thought this was disrespectful and frankly…. Strange. Mostly that he didn’t seem to notice these long and frequent trips weren’t ok. Easy to trigger abandonment. And what were his other patients saying? I have no idea. I did a wrap up session at his request the following week and that was it. I will never understand what happened. Very clueless, disrespectful and bizarre behavior isn’t it???

    • @GeoffreyPilkington
      @GeoffreyPilkington 7 месяцев назад

      Perhaps my therapist was trying to get me to grow up and not need him anymore? If so, it was a misread by him. Perhaps he knew we weren’t a match anymore but was wanting me to make the decision so the travel was his way of phasing me out? I have no idea. Dumbfounding. The good news is my new therapist of 4 months is great!

      It sounds like there was a potential 'Elephant in the room there', which I am never a fan of personally.

    • @GeoffreyPilkington
      @GeoffreyPilkington 7 месяцев назад

      @@TherapyBusinessSchool meaning he’d kind of run his course with me and didn’t know how to tell me? Genuinely I think the trips were a bit suspicious because wouldn’t his other patients be saying the same with his constant long time away? Pure speculation but I wonder if he could have been taking big gaps (“trips”) because he wanted me to make the decision. is this a possibility? Why wouldn’t he just tell me we’d run our course? Perhaps it’s very hard for some therapists to do? Though he did often tell me where he was going. Europe. Australia etc. and he’d have some brief antidotes about his trips when he got back . As i said, I can’t wrap my head around what was going on there. Certainly he’s not dumb enough to think that was any way appropriate….

    • @TherapyBusinessSchool
      @TherapyBusinessSchool 7 месяцев назад

      @@GeoffreyPilkington, what I mean by a possible elephant in the room is that there may have been one for you perhaps, that was not brought up by you. Ideally, the therapeutic relationship should be strong and healthy enough to have these questions discussed during the session. With myself, I often 'check in' with my clients as to how they feel the sessions are going, are we still working on the things they want to work on, are we working on something else that has become more prominent for them, or are we NOT working on the things they really want to work on. I also ask where the client thinks 'we' are on our journey together. I find this a much healthier approach, it's respectiful, and it's ethical too, so I am not a fan of elephants being present on either side of the therapeutic relationship. Endings are also such an important part of therapy, they should be handled with care and consideration too. It sounds like your ending was not ideal for you, based on the questions it has left you with.

    • @GeoffreyPilkington
      @GeoffreyPilkington 7 месяцев назад

      @@TherapyBusinessSchool your approach sounds astute. As far as the elephant, yes. But it’s not my role to tell him when he should and should not take trips. If he’s that inept, I don’t want him as a therapist. I had found someone I liked better anyway. 😊

    The E-Myth Revisited is a great book if you are either already 'in' business, or looking to go into business, ie your own private practice as a therapist. The story follows a woman (Sarah) who started a bakery through her love of baking when she was a child helping her grandmother. However, the thing she once loved (baking), she is now starting to hate as she is slowly going 'out of business'. Enter the author, Michael Gerber. By way of a series of detailed lessons and explanations, he helps her not only realise what is going wrong (and why), but also what she needs to do to put it right, and why.

    As a therapist, it can be difficult to see someone incredibly upset as they talk about their emotions. Only a small percentage of what we 'say' is verbal. The rest we convey with our body language, so I would suggest it is a good idea we learn how to read it, or improve our ability too anyway. Carl Rogers and UPR (Unconditional Positive Regard). Carl Rogers was an American psychologist who was one of the founders of 'Humanistic Psychology'. In this video, I talk about his UPR approach, or 'unconditional positive regard', and how any person in the well-being space should adopt this (both professionally and personally). I also reference a video where you can see Rogers in action in a series of videos called, 'The Gloria Tapes'. In 'The Gloria Tapes', a client is filmed interacting with three different therapists, using their particular modalities. They are Carl Rogers (Person Centered), Fredrick Perls (Gestalt), and Albert Ellis, (Rational Emotive Therapy). I really would recommend you watch it and notice how the client reacts to these different modalities too. NOTE - There is some conjecture over which style the client (Gloria) actually found most helpful, as she apparently said one, but later felt it was another. Which one do you think was best?

    Hi! How do you respond to leads? Do you call clients or just email?

      Good question. It is rare that I call or email first, as I do not know if they are in a position to take a call. Also, people generally check their text messages more frequently than their emails, so I tend to stay away from email replies at first for this reason. Instead, I do a certain thing in a certain order. First, I respond via a text message from the Bark app, but it only allows 160 characters, so it has to be brief. Then I send the potential client a personalised text message from my mobile to their mobile, introducing myself, and explaining that I have also replied via bark (to show authenticity). In this message, I also offer a free 30-minute consultation, and I provide the booking link too. Then I send another message via the Bark app to explain that I have just sent them a text message from my mobile to theirs, and again remind them that I am offering a free consultation and the link is in the text message. I have found that strategy works best. If there is no reply after a day, I will then send a text message and/or an email. If another day goes by and I have still not heard, I will phone, have a very short conversation (if I get through), and see if we can arrange the consultation. Does that help? James

      How often do you wait in between the first two text messages? @@TherapyBusinessSchool

    • @TherapyBusinessSchool
      @TherapyBusinessSchool 10 месяцев назад

      @@willadolphy8432 I send the first two messages straight after each other (The first message via the bark app saying I will reply in more detail, and then the second text from my mobile to their mobile). I do this to ‘strike whilst the iron is hot’, and because when I sent the first message (the bark reply), I said I would do so. This shows that I will do what I said I am going to do (showing professionalism), by replying promptly, and the potential client is looking for help right now, and will probably want a prompt response too. Does that assist? 😊

    👉 Imagine this scenario: The police contact you asking for your therapy notes from either an existing client, or an ex-client. What do you do? What feelings does it bring up? Do you have to provide them? So many questions, but in the video I give some tips and advice around this, both from a therapy perspective and from when I was a Detective in the police myself. A Life Coaching Technique To Help Your Clients As a professional Counsellor, Life Coach, and Hypnotherapist, I see clients for a number of different reasons. Some come to therapy because they want to stop something. Others come because they want to start something. Sometimes, it is a little bit of both. Often, a client will doubt their own ability, or their resolve to come up with possible solutions for their issues or problems. This is a solid technique from the world of life coaching, and it is incredibly powerful. It is also a great technique for a client to realise they do have their answer, and it has been there all along, perhaps hidden under a limiting belief.

    Client Consultations, Reviews, and 7-11-4. When would you say a client consultation actually starts? When the potential client messages you? When you actually talk for the first time? Or would you say it is something else? It actually happens a long time before you even meet, speak or even message. In this video I explain WHY, but also what you can do to assist the consultation (before you even communicate for the first time). I also talk about a concept called 7, 11, 4. This is the psychological reason people make purchasing decisions, based on a study by Google themselves. In this video I also reference certain things, so here are the links for those too: 👉 The free PDF Zero Moments Of Truth - www.thinkwithgoogle.com/_qs/documents/673/2011-winning-zmot-ebook_research-studies.pdf 👉 My Podcast Channel - open.spotify.com/show/0eS0k7TLPzE0dNCDwkQl2A 👉 My book - 'Metaphors And Stories For Therapists': The Paperback version - amzn.to/44DimeC The Kindle Version - amzn.to/3sJmQCV The Audiobook - amzn.to/3r6uKG2 👉 How my Calendly link looks for a typical 30-minute consultation - calendly.com/right-your-own-story/30min You may also be interested in a new journal I have created, either for yourself or to recommend to your clients. It is called, 'The 1-Minute, 365-Day, Appreciation Journal', and it has certain features that others do not have, such as video content. 👉 Here is the video link where I do a show and tell of it - ruclips.net/video/FRW4HreyQYc/видео.html I hope you have enjoyed this video.
