    If the faith were smart, they NEVER would've given her any option to leave. Now she will regroup and destroy them. They think they are getting even and humbling her, but they just gave her the tools that will be the end of them.

    I have to say, in this chapter I get more angry at the High Septon than feel empathy for Cersei. I agree with you about this punishment and how wrong it is on so many levels, but I have so much trouble with her as a character. Her thought process is so self absorbed and what she helped do to the Blue Bard is unforgivable. Also, she's been giving Qyburn victims. It's terrifying, what she's done.

    I think in many ways, that as karmic retribution goes, the walk of atonement definitely fits Cersei. For most of the story she has been misogynistic to other women, cruel and abusive to the starving populace, and thinks she can use the faith to further her own goals while being sinful and hypocritical and was always able to hide behind her wealth, beauty, and family name but all that comes crashing down when she put a man who doesn't care about any of that into power. Now, she's forced to face the people she's harmed through the War of the Five Kings and her extravagant living through a highly misogynistic punishment to make her feel small and broken by the same Faith she tried to control for her own gain.

    Great video. In my eyes, this was basically a "The Life Of Lady Stoneheart" video. I think Brienne should pick Lady Catelyn's/Stoneheart's side because Brienne has the sword Oathkeeper and is trying to be an oathkeeper. Also, I've always wondered are wolf dreams the same as dragon dreams? Because it was never really clear for me. Looking forward to the next video.

    Besides being a humiliation calculated for a woman, it's also designed for a noble, the supposed head of society. If Westeros society is like Medieval Europe, the nobility put tremendous emphasis on their extravagant clothes (which only they could wear, according to sumptuary laws) and riding above the crowd on horseback. Stripping away their clothes and making them walk barefoot in the streets would strip away their core identity.

    In the show, it’s Margaery by a mile because show Margaery knew how to manipulate her sons and was quickly, and effectively, displacing her as queen and Cersei’s driving motivation is her lust for power. However, in the books Margaery isn’t really a formidable character and she doesn’t develop any real relationship with either Joffrey or Tommen that would suggest that she could take control away from Cersei. Meanwhile, Cersei in the books is deeply suspicious and jealous of Sansa, for her beauty, her grace and her apparent position as heir to the North.

    I saw her head being shaved described as “shaving a lions mane” and it was so poignant for me, especially considering that her hair is such a source of pride for her and the sense of defeat and humiliation in those scenes. this was such a deeply fucked up punishment, as bad as Cersei is, it was so horrifying to see.

Just throwing ideas for other vids to the wall here, but id love a deep dive on Euro (or the greyjoys in general) and how you think they'll affect things to come. Another great video! While you were talking about this choice of punishment that the faith makes and choosing something that is designed to belittle women and make them feel tiny, made me think I’d love a gender discussion about ASOIAF and GOT. I couldn’t help but think about Dani when she goes on the pyre and her dragons are born, they chose to leave her hair long in the show rather than it being burnt off. But with Cersei’s walk here, it seemed absolutely important to the show runners that she feel shamed by having her hair cut off. I’m rambling a bit, but I’d love to hear your thoughts on the implications of gender and power in this story, and how a characters moral alignment changes the way we view them in relation to their gender. Really hope that makes some semblance of sense! Love your channel!!❤

    Great video. When I saw the title, I was expecting the video to be a "The Life Of Cersei Lannister" video, but this was interesting as well. I wouldn't mind you doing "The Life Of ..." videos for certain characters like you did with Visenya Targaryen where you talked about her birth till her death in the books. If I may suggest a "The Life Of Daenerys Targaryen" video would be nice, since the last season of GOT kind of ruined her character arc. So for Daenerys it would be from birth till her most recent point in the book, which is her and Drogon being somewhere in the Dothraki Sea, if I remember correctly. Cersei did deserve a punishment for all the bad things she had done, but I did feel bad for her in that moment when she had to do a walk of atonement. What they could have done is strip her of her rank, titles and family name, and make her a septa or a silent sister

      Making her a silent sister would have been a much more appropriate punishment, she’d have been forced to be of service somehow. Instead this walk has only made Cersei more determined, she’s gonna dig her heels in big time now and hell hath no fury like a lion scorned

    • @victoradriaensen4463
      @victoradriaensen4463 День назад

      @gameofthroneshistorian Definitely. And how I thought of septa or silent sister is like, when the men in the ASOIAF universe do bad stuff, they can choose between death, a trial by combat, a trial by seven or taking the black. But since the Night's Watch is only for men, I got to thinking like "What's the female version of the Night's Watch?" and then I came to silent sister because they also have to do vow of chastity. But then I thought, they could be a little bit nice by making her a septa, so she can still talk to her son Tommen

  • @RoseStark94
    @RoseStark94 День назад

    It was then that the High Septon knew, they royally fucked up. Also yes, while we may hate Cersei for things she does, when she is wronged, she doesn't stay still she takes action. And it's gonna take more than faith to keep her from destroying Westeros.

    • @gameofthroneshistorian

In 9 AC both Aegon & Visenya fought. It was in 10 AC when Rhaenys returns to Dorne with her siblings. That Aegon, Rhaenys & Visenya all 3 attack different areas where Rhaenys dies.
