Someone needs to take this man's ability to think up new ideas away because why did he plan so many books in advance? These could all come out and Winds of Winter could still not be released. Seriously though, his work ethic is insane. I genuinely don't get how he could write an entire book without anyone knowing. Writing a book is taxing and it takes ages to do but I guess no one told Sanderson that lol. Seems like maybe now would be a good time to start Way of Kings. I've been putting it off for way too long due to me being intimidated by how long it is. Bit scary to think that I won't see the end of it until the 2040s. Guess I can spend that time catching up to everything else. For the cosmere, can I just read Mistborn and Stormlight or do I gotta read the secret projects and other stuff to get the full picture? I have no idea how this universe works. Is it just little references to some things like Stephen King's connected universe?

totally agree that Hobb's prose is beautiful and evoking, i dont care that the story structure was meandering at times or how fitz didnt really do the typical 'protagonist destined for greatness' stuff. the reading experience was a long journey i could totally be immersed in, no matter how slow the current. I actually might place the second book as my least favourite tho.. idk. maybe it got too heavy-handed for me with the misery relentlessly thrown onto a grown, but still young, fitz. The third book, while it had the most issues with meandering plot, was the peak of my immersion and emotional investment. The first book I didnt have much thoughts on immediately after finishing it, but I love it more now in retrospect. also , 2:03, do you mean the Wit, not Skill ? 😅

I found the Fire and Blood volume very interesting, especially the Dance of the Dragons part. Characters like Daemon, Larys Strong, Corlys Velaryon, Addam and Alyn, Tyland Lannister feel very much alive.

This absolutely one of my favorite series! I enjoyed all 5 trilogies. As you can tell by my RUclips name. I almost forgot that was my name. I love this channel, I’m massive fan of all things medieval fantasy.

Please try out the Suneater series by Christopher Roucchio. It’s an awesome series that’s getting some recognition from a few book-tubers over the last couple of years but hasn’t blown up in the mainstream. Would love to see your thoughts!

I don’t think he will ever finish it, he is very old unfortunately and he hasn’t has much time. It was nice but HBO ending is what we get. We just have to accept it and move on.

“Garden Writing” is NOT a thing and is why it probably never will be released. He started the story with a several year gap and it’s completely fucked without it. Everything is spread out all over the world and he has way to many story threads he has to bring back, and since he wrote so much of it without a plan the whole thing becomes impossible to complete. If he does finish it u have to think Dream of Spring will be quicker as all the seeds will be planted to finish the story rather than figuring out how to bring everyone back. If he never finishes it absolutely ruins his legacy. He has to finish it

I have a dear friend who took 13 years to read the Wheel of Time. It fell to me last summer to advise on his next adventure. I took that charge seriously, but really, the only possible next move was to start him on the whole Robin Hobbs journey.... And now I have 15 years or so to mull over my next rec.

Despite the typical YA stereotypes of the book which always make me cringe (young adult/teen angry at the world, typical youth inexperienced in romance and communication), I enjoyed this trilogy for it's world building and I liked the 'powers make people crazy/shitty/aggressive even if they don't want to' angle. It's not his top work, but there are many of the things that I like about his usual works in this series as well.

my theory is that winds is done but he wont release it till he makes real progress on a dream of spring, like a complete outline draft as well so he can go back and make edits with how complicated the story is and how many things he has to tie up
