I've seen a lot of barrel filter's, this is the best by far.
Very nice DIY filter systems I love it Can you list more details all supplies how many things do I need to build one Thanks
❤❤it thank you roy😊😊😊
Love the channel. New sup
Great design!
Thank you!!
This is cool. Did you end up using it? How is it working?
I'm using it, it's doing the job, I might redesign it in the future as I think the sieve could catch more. I only clean it once a week, I could probably clean it more often for better performance. I've added 2 layers of sponge on top of the sieve to help it catch more debris. (a course layer and fine layer). My water quality is excellent, I have about 20 Koi in the pond.
What amazing work you did on your pond build mate , I just watch all your videos 👍👍👍
Thank you so much, the Koi now have a large space to grow and be happy.
Why doesn’t Zippy simply cut those 45 degree bevels on the table saw. Polypro cuts much better with a blade over a grinder
Oui merci . Je vien😢 de chercher des plaques comme celle là et j'ais vue t'ais annonceo sur le .bon coing . Merci a toi de proposer ča
Stand Wood how cm sir
That's just what I used. I only plan on getting 5-7 years out of this pond, so i'm sure the wood will hold up.
@@zippydoesit7690 thanks sir
Hi again so when I’m on Amazon it’s only showing pounds so when you say 6 ft.³ could you tell me how many pounds that is? Lol if that’s not a stupid question.
I'm not sure, I see the option for 6 lbs, but the 6 cubic feet is more. I couldn't find details of the actual weight of the 6 cubic feet option.
Hi I’m looking in to building one just like this how much media did you put in each barrel and where did you get your best deal thanks Carmen
I ordered 6-cubic feet off of Amazon and put 2- cubic feet per barrel. K1 Bio Filter Media Amazon ASIN B09BG8GQBF
nice update keep them coming
Finally, very detailed!!! I am working on a similar build and i needed this. Thank you!
Thank you, let me know if you have any questions and I hope your build turns out well.
ply wood rots man
I'm only planning 5-8 years out of this build, so I think it will be ok.
That’s lovely, thanks for sharing. How much do they sell the 100-150 koi’s for? They look great, good person to share your koi’s with people!
They sell them for about $200, it's pretty cheap for that many fish and the fish are pretty good quality.
When do you plan on sorting these? Curious to see the quality when you sort. Can’t wait for that video!
I'll probably post an update in the next few weeks, i've separated about 10 of my favorite baby Koi to my "keeper" tank. They now range from 2" to 4" in size, most being 3"-4".
A great build my friend - I also make my own filters they are easier to clean they are cheap and I think they work better. Nice work.
normal for new k1 to float
How has this done over the last 6 months? Also were those 3” uniseals used on the barrels?
So far so good, no leaks, I clean it out once a week, water quality is spot on. They are 3"
just subscribed🎉🎉
Zippy did it, great covers, the Koi should be good under there, best wishes, Tony😀
Zippy buddy them there covers look absolutely fecking awesome 💯👌🧁👍👍👍
Absolutely fecking awesome job there Zippy buddy i would recommend 24-26 degrees to get the best growth out of your ikkle one's 💯🧁👍👍👍
Look good nice job 😎👏👏 Here in Manchester we or ready get -4 🥶 My second year with the pond and I cover this year and happy with the result so far
In terms of celsius, we have gotten down to -8, the pond is holding at 8. Koi are still eating and active.
@@zippydoesit7690 Bravo 👏 is holding the temperature nice your pond 😎👌
Looking good zippy looking forward to next update on them
You will get there mate my the first few month i battle with green water 💦 but after few change the pond is crystal clear You got new subscriber 😎👌🎏🎏
if you add the pond bomb…which is bacteria…then you have a uv running…won’t that literally just kill the bacteria from the bomb rendering it pointless?
Not sure if you have similar products across the pond, but over here standard practice is to use ptfe tape on all threaded wet and gas fittings. Never had problems with domestic or aquaria related plumbing using this stuff 👍🏼
Your video itself was ok but man lose that horrendous music. It made it darn nesr unwatchable.
No good idea,
Hi where you buy plastic what plastic call

nice video keep them coming
intresting video dropped you a sub lok forward to watching more
Awesome, thanks for the sub!
Build a bigger pond beyond the fence😉… Or a conservatory.
You need to get this all together and then start with a plan diagram and then go through the assembly, I lost my mind listening to the presentation. this is a good design , but the delivery is hard to follow. your voice could be more stable ,less whiney, Great design. just could not take it
Ha ha, thanks Randy! It is what it is.
Sorry to say but the pvc to abs glue is not legal. It will fail eventually. No idea why it is sold in big box stores. Hope it lasts for you. Fingers crossed.
There is no pressure on these joints, it will be fine.
So what if anything what made the water clear up?
I run 2 11 watt UV lights inside my Sieve filter, so I believe that's what helped clear up the water.
nice, why do you require two outlet pipes?
I wanted to have the second one for additional current, but it didn't work, so I just have one return.
Bless your soul for digging that pond . I just started my pond build last week in Fl, in the middle of the hot summer and hurricane season .lol 97 one day and literally a hurricane two days later . And still have more to dig .
I feel for you buddy! I started the digging last summer and said NO way, waited for winter to pass and did the digging in the Spring. Stay safe in your weather conditions, watching the news right now of hurricane Idalia, it's a mess in FL! Last week, Hurricane Hilary fizzled out right where I'm at.
Congratulations on your new Peanuts 😁
Very good where yuo bay the k1
I bought the K1 from Amazon US.
Hi zippy I have a question so I’m running a 4” bottom drain . I connect the 4” bottom drain to the sieve ? And then convert after the pump to a 2” drain to the barrels correct ?
I have a 2 inch pipe coming out of the Sieve, but then i increase it to a 3" pipe into the barrel filter. The 2 inch pipe connects easier to my pump. Make sure your sieve mesh covers fairly well and doesn't escape. I'm going to redo the Sieve mesh and have it overlap more as I'm seeing muck escape between the cracks down into the section where the pump is. You don't want the muck to hit your pump as it will just blend it up and send it into your barrels. You want the sieve to catch as much waste as it can before continuing to the barrel filter. Hope that helps!
Hi Zippy buddy the peanuts and the system, the optimum temp for development and growth of fry is 24-26 degrees also i personally wouldn't get rid of any at this stage as they will change a heck of a lot in the coming months and last but not least take it from me bruva growing fry becomes addictive 😂💯🧁👍👍👍
Totally agree, it's fun to sit and watch them all. I have 2 other tanks I'm setting up to thin out the school as they grow. A 75 gallon keeper tank and a 60 gallon holding tank for the larger ones as I rehome them. I just want to make sure that 110 gallon tub doesn't become over crowded as they grow. So far I'm keeping the Ammonia and Nitrite at bay as the filter matures, it's a balancing act. I believe that filter should easily handle the bio load as it matures.
Hi Zippy wrighty has knocked on the head you're return diameter should be atleast double the size of the inlet 🧁👍👍👍 And this pumps are ace my pan has a few running on his systems 🧁👍👍👍
Yep, this was trial and error and honestly, I was just using left over parts to make this, so that's what I had on hand. The 3 returns seem to be working, I only get water out of the emergency overflow when I'm coming out of feeding mode, but then it settles out. The good thing is no water on the floor and its doing its job.
@@zippydoesit7690 sweeeeeeet that's awesome news buddy 💯🧁👍👍👍
New sub! Love your channel. Inspired to think about an above ground with window.
Awesome thanks for the Sub, just do it, it totally changes your backyard and the window is a must, the Koi actually love coming to watch you and see what you are doing. Plus you can enjoy your fish way more and see them in more detail than from looking down through the water.
@@zippydoesit7690 now I just need forgiveness before permission
@@byz513😂😂😂brilliant 💯👌🧁👍👍👍
Green water doesn't have any detrimental effect on the fish or the water parameters mate. The pond bomb is purely bacteria for obtaining a good nitrogen cycle and achieving zero ammonia and nitrate. The UV will be clearing the green water. Hope this helps 😊
Yes, you are 100% correct. Water has now cleared up running the UV.
@@zippydoesit7690 great news Zippy, you can see your lovely fish now, including Dick Fish was it? He's stunning 🥰
I have a similar arrangement and from experience know that overflows can occur if the silt builds up in the bottom of the filters - even minimally. You will benefit from being able to reduce the flow and by adding an overflow system. It is not funny waking to find the pond almost empty because the filter has burst its banks!
I've been flushing them once a week, but I can see how they would overflow if you neglected the maintenance. Thanks for the input!
My pond water is green with algae, filters stay brown with muck. (The thrill of the pond is gone, it's just a job, I'm to old, want a easier way.) I have a 5200gph water pump. I have a green 18X24 matala filter in front of it, also a white rolled type filter 18X18 at my water fall. I have to clean twice a day just to keep the pump from clogging with debris. Question: How long will I have to keep cleaning my filters before the barrel system takes over? Or will it? My pond 15X18X3 ft. deep.
I'd give the barrel system enough time to establish enough beneficial bacteria to support your bio load, you can speed up that process by using bacteria additives like a pond bomb. I don't know what your stock level is, so maybe a month? I probably clean my sieve and skimmer every 3 days and I flush barrels 1&2 once a week. Right now my maintenance is fairly low. It takes my trickle in about 2 days to fill the water level back up when I do a barrel flush. As for your green water, are you running a UV sterilizer? My green water cleared up after about 2 weeks of running my UV. My pond doesn't receive too much direct sunlight due to my roof. My neighbors pond is full of algae and has no shade. My pond has only been running for 2 months now, so algae may be yet to come for me.
Add a DIY gravel filter after a skimmer and your pond with stay clear.
